Hymenoloma mulahaceni and Mnium blyttii found as new to Turkey following a recent bryological excursion to the Bolkar Mountains (Taurus Mountain range) in Turkey. Also, this is the first record of the Mnium blyttii from Southwest Asia. Illustrations, geographic distributions, ecological characteristics, identification keys and comparisons with morphologically similar taxa are given.

In this study, three hybrids of Origanum (Lamiaceae) were examined in detail using morphological, karyological, palynological and molecular approaches. One of the three hybrids, O. × aytacii, is here described for the first time, and is compared with its putative parents, O. sipyleum and O. vulgare subsp. hirtum. In addition to morphological, karyological and palynological features, we also examined nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS) sequences of O. × intermedium (O. onites × O. sipyleum), O. × intercedens (O. onites × O. vulgare subsp. hirtum) and their purported parental species that share the same area with the new hybrid. Pollen grains were hexacolpate and isopolar. The range of Polar/Equatorial ratio (P/E) of pollen for investigated taxa varied from 0.74 to 0.99. All investigated taxa are diploid with a chromosome number as 2n = 30. According to molecular results, O. × aytacii was the most polymorphic taxon. In addition, DNA sequences showed that O. × intercedens was more similar to O. vulgare subsp. hirtum than to O. onites, and O. × intermedium was more similar to O. onites than to O. sipyleum. Furthermore, O. onites and O. vulgare subsp. hirtum have many different ITS haplotypes, probably resulting from backcrossing with different individuals. Results obtained in this study demonstrate that hybridization has played a major role in the process of Origanum speciation.

- MakaleYalnız künye2017Scopus SJRQ2The anatomical and micromorphological properties of three endemic and medicinal Salvia species (Lamiaceae) in Erzincan (Turkey)
Polat, R.; Cakilcioglu, U.; Selvi, S.; Türkmen, Z.; Kandemir, A.
In this study, we comparatively investigated three endemic Salvia species spreading in Erzincan (Turkey) in terms of anatomy and micromorphology. For anatomical investigation, cross sections taken from stems and leaves of the species were examined under light microscope. For micromorphological investigation, epidermal surface and nutlet structure were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The S. euphratica and S. divaricata species were examined anatomically and micromorphologically for the first time, and S. hypargea was examined micromorphologically for the first time. In anatomical examinations, it was seen that stem and leaf structures of the species were similar. In micromorphological analyses, it has been seen that hairiness of the nutlet surface and nutlet ornamentations (verrucate and rugose type) created a difference between the species.

- MakaleÖn baskısı açık2016Scopus SJRQ2Morphological, karyological and palynological investigation of endemic Centaurea kurdica Reichardt from Turkey
Hayta, S.; Tasar, N.; Kiran, Y.; Cakilcioglu, U.; Bagci, E.
The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological, morphometrical, karyological and palynological features of the endemic Centaurea kurdica Reichardt species from East Anatolian region. Some morphological features of the species like morphology of capitula, involucra, involucral leaves (phyllaries) and achene have been investigated. The chromosome number of Centaurea kurdica was found as 2n = 18 and haploid karyotype formula 6m + 2sm + 1M. Metaphase chromosome length ranged from 5.81 to 3.91 mu m and the total haploid chromosome length was 41.09 mu m. The results of the light microscope investigation of pollen revealed that it is radially symmetrical, isopolar tricolporate and has spheroid-type pollen, and exine ornamentation was also determined as scabrate.
