Kutlu, Banu
In this study, Craspedacusta sowerbii Lankester, 1880 a jellyfish species belonging to freshwater hydrozoan group, was reported for the first time in the field study carried out at Uzunçayır dam lake in Tunceli province on 15 September 2018. The plankton samples were obtained from two different regions of the lake using UNESCO WP2 plankton net with mesh size of 200 µm. C. sowerbii, one of the fresh water hydrozoans obtained from plankton samples, is rarely observed in man-made lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, and has not been observed earlier in the Uzunçayır dam lake. The C. sowerbii might have placed in the lake through some fishing activities which were conducted from 2010 to 2017 and/or through some sport equipment's (i.e. boat, jetski, were brought to the region for recreational purposes).

Kucukgul, Altuğ; Kucukgul, Azime
Chemical composition of the essential oil was analyzed by GC-MS, and found to contain the phenol (40.95 %) as major component. Results showed that Y. ruckeri (3 × 107cfu fish-1) infection caused the characteristic symptoms on rainbow trout (petechial hemorrhages on the surface of body and liver). Y. ruckeriinducedinhibitions of Cas-3, Cas-8, p53 and HSP-70. After the administration of thyme essential oil (10 mg kg-1 diet) to infected fish tissues, Cas-3, Cas-8, p53 and HSP-70 mRNAs were up-regulated by 9.31, 9.18, 9.58, and 6,1 fold change, respectively. According to the results of the study, the inhibitions seen all analyzed genes were due to Y. ruckeri infection. However, they were entirely increased by thyme treatment. Thus, targeting pro-apoptotic proteases by agents such as T. vulgaris could improve therapeutic options for infectious disease in fish.

Kutlu, Banu; Mutlu, Ekrem
Present study consists the growth of cell and bioaccumulation capacity of Cadmium (Cd), Zinc (Zn), Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu) by Dunaliella sp. isolated from Homa Lagoon, Eastern Aegean, Turkey. Sterile medium f/2 was used for the cultivation. Growth rate, mean growth rate, relative growth rate and generation time of Dunaliella sp. were calculated for determining the growth of cell. In addition, optimum pH values were determined for each heavy metal. Our results pointed out that the optimum time for harvesting Dunaliella sp. was in 8 days. Uptake of heavy metals of Dunaliella sp. showed high tendency for zinc accumulation followed by copper, lead, and the lowest tendency was for cadmium. Highest bioaccumulation of Zn was determined to be 151.64 µg/L at 2.45 of pH under in situ conditions. pH had noticeably affected the bioaccumulation capacity of Dunaliella sp.

Kutlu, Banu; Buyukisik, Baha
zschia amphiarys were investigated under continuous-light period and batch culture conditions. The optimum temperature and light intensities were found as 18 degrees C and 52 mu mol/m(2)s (saturasyon light), respectively. mu(max) and K-s values estimated for each nutrient were obtained as follows: ammonia for 1.528 day(-1) 2.959 mu g-at- NH4+-N/L, nitrate 1.22 day(-1), 7.01 mu g-at NO3- -N/L, phosphate 1.767 and 1.172 day(-1) 5.07 and 0.460 mu g-at PO4-(3)-P/L, silicate 1.141 day(-1) and 0,499 mu g-at Si/L. Carrying capacity values estimated for each nutrients were obtained as follows: nitrate 113,7 mu g chl a/L, 190.11 phosphate 113.7 mu g chl a/L, 1.798. Nitrogen limiting nutrients was found as in this study.
