Barim, Esra; Demirelli, Kadir
The poly(4-methacryloyloxyphenyl-4'-methoxystyryl ketone-co-methyl methacrylate) [P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA)] was synthesized using a free radical copolymerization method at 60 °C. The composition of the copolymer was estimated by 1H-NMR. The nanocomposites of P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA)-loaded 9 and 11 wt% nanographene (NG) were produced using the ultrasonic homogenizer sonicator. The FT-IR, 1H-NMR, GPC, TGA, XRD, and SEM techniques were used to characterize the copolymer and composites. The thermal behavior of P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA) partially heated up to 270, 310, 340, and 380 °C was investigated by FT-IR analysis. A six-membered anhydride ring in the copolymer backbone formed at 340 °C and higher temperatures. TG measurements were used to analyze the thermal decomposition processes of pure P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA) and P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA)/NG 11 wt% composite. Apparent activation energies for thermal decomposition of P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA)/NG 11 wt% were determined using the Flynn–Wall–Ozawa (FWO) and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose (KAS) methods at a temperature range of 200 and 400 °C for a weight loss of approximately 70%. The average activation energies determined from the FWO and KAS methods were 86.3 and 80.3 kJ/mol, respectively. The dielectric and electrical behaviors of the P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA) and P(MPMESK0.25-co-MMA)/NG 11 wt% composite were investigated at room temperature. The dc activation energy for dc conductivity of nanocomposite was calculated as 1.092 eV. Optical properties such as absorption, reflectance, refractive index, absorption edge, direct band gap of the copolymer, and composites were investigated from their optical examinations in the wavelength region of 200–800 nm. It was found that the optical energy gap values had shifted to the lower energies with the doping of NG.

The synthesis of poly[4-(4-vinylbenzyl)oxy)phthalonitrile-co-styrene] [P(VBOPN5 %-co-St)] was carried out by free radical polymerisation at 60 °C. The successful formation of a green coloured single-chain polymer molecule with the formation of cobalt phthalocyanine (SCP-CoPc) was performed at 140–150 °C in the presence of dilute cyclohexanol. The characterization of SCP-CoPc was confirmed by FT-IR and UV/vis spectroscopic techniques. The absorption filtration process of the SCP-CoPc polymer/Sudan III composite was investigated. The introduction of Sudan III into the SCP-CoPc polymer matric strongly affected the optical transmission spectrum of the composite films. The optical transmission measurements of the SCP-CoPc/Sudan III thin film show a high absorption in the visible region (400–800 nm). In the SCP-CoPc/Sudan III composites, the optical band gaps (Eg1 and Eg2) of each of its components has changed significantly. The Eg1 and Eg2 were found to be between 1.90 and 2.83 eV, respectively. Depending on the sudan III content, a wide range from 600 nm to 730 nm indicates complete absorption filtration. The dc electrical conductivity and dielectric behavior of the SCP-CoPc/Nanografene (NG) 6 wt% nanocomposite increased with increasing temperature. From the dc conductivity plot, the Ea values of I. and II. regions were found to be 0.75 eV and 0.27 eV, respectively and it was found that the calculated activation energy obeyed the Arrhenius relationship. The refractive index and the optical permittivity of SCP-CoPc/NG 6 wt% have been estimated.

MXene based ternary composite photonic device was fabricated and characterized for the detection of different illuminations. The single chain polymer-cobalt phthallocyanine (SCP-CoPc) carrying metallised pthalocyanine macro ring was used as a polymer for the preparation of ternary composite. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) were used to differentiate MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc composite prepared. The presence of Ti, C, O, Zn and Co elements in the structure of the composite was confirmed by EDX. The electrical properties of planar interdigital coated MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc (1:1:1 by wt) were investigated for photovoltaic application. The photo-generated carriers contribute to the current flow, and the linear photoconductivity behaviour in current measurements with different illuminations such as 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mW/cm2 indicates the possible photo device use of MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc nanocomposite. The photocurrent increased from 20 mA/cm2 to 100 mA/cm2 with the light intensity at 0.5 V was tuned from 28 to 280 μA. The forbidden energy gap (Eg) value of the MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc ternary composite from optical measurements was found to be 2.36 eV. Experimental results showed that the presence of SCP-CoPc and ZnO (zinc oxide) in the ternary nanocomposite increased the ε' and ε" values of MXene. The ε′ and ε″ of the ternary composite is 13.0, 26217 at 1 kHz and room temperature, respectively. The current-time results suggest that MXene based ternary composite photonic device is a self driven photodevice as the device can detect light without any external voltage bias.

The Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheet was prepared by 40% (v/v) hydrofluoric acid etching at 20 °C for 48 h and delamination of bulk MAX Ti3AlC2 precursor material. A 2D nanomaterial MXene Ti3C2Tx as a nanofiller was introduced to polysulfone (PSulfone) matrix. MXene and PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite systems were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, Fourier-transform infrared and thermogravimetric analysis instruments. Dielectric and electrical characterization of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite was carried out. The electrical resistance of Ti3C2Tx MXene from measurement current (I)–voltage (V) was measured as 116 Ω. Pure PSulfone matrix exhibits typical insulator behavior, and MXene exhibits a good conductor behavior. But, when MXene was added to the pure PSulfone matrix, the resistance of the MXene/PSulfone nanocomposite increased moderately compared to that of pure MXene. In spite of the excess of surface functional groups, MXene showed surprisingly good electron transport across the surface, while in the case of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite, the insulating behavior of PSulfone significantly reduced the electron transport of MXene. The semiconductor behavior of PSulfone/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposite indicates that MXene provides efficient charge carrier transfer in the nanocomposite system. By comparing the TGA results between the PSulfone and different weight ratios of PSulfone/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposites, it was determined that MXene nanosheets had a significant effect in slightly accelerating the thermal degradation of PSulfone. Optical conductivity was investigated by preparing a film of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite on an interdigital contact. It was observed that the optical current values changed depending on the increasing illumination intensity. Considering current–voltage measurements, the photocurrent generation potential of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite shows that it can be used in photodevice production.

Polyaniline-carbon dot (CD/PANI) composites were prepared via in-situ oxidative polymerization of aniline in the presence of carbon dots, with specific concentrations carefully controlled during synthesis. The composite was characterized using spectroscopic (FT-IR), morphological (TEM, SEM) and electrical methods. Impedance analysis was employed to investigate the transport behavior of charge carriers in the frequency range of 500 Hz to 10 MHz at 25 °C. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the dielectric properties of the CD/PANI composite, including dielectric constant, dielectric loss, loss factor, AC conductivity, admittance, impedance, and Cole–Cole plots. The dielectric constant of the CD/PANI composite was 6.97 for 1 kHz at 0.5 V and 12.87 for 1 kHz at 5 V. The values indicate that the increase in the dielectric constant of nanocomposite with increasing voltage. This suggests that CD/PANI composite is a dielectric material whose dielectric constants are controlled by applied voltage. Notably, the dielectric constant increased with rising applied voltage and decreased with increasing frequency. Current-voltage (I-V) measurements revealed that the composite's dielectric parameters could be tuned by varying the applied DC voltage, suggesting its potential as a voltage-dependent dielectric (VDD) material for capacitor applications. Furthermore, the enhanced electrical conductivity indicates that the CD/PANI composite is a promising candidate for next-generation dielectric devices.

Yıldırım, Turgay; Barım, Esra; Tuncer, Hülya; Demirelli, Kadir
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)/Congo Red (CR) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC)/CR composite films were prepared on optical glass by the drop method for optical measurements and also prepared as tablets under pressure for dielectrical measurements. The optical transmission spectra measurements for PMMA and PVC film doped with CR showed a highly absorption in the ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) optical range (at 353 nm and 518 nm) and considerably blocking in broad visible range (190 nm–640 nm). PMMA/CR and PVC/CR composite films containing congo red at a concentration of 1 wt% showed maximum absorption bands at 290 nm and 416 nm, but their transmittance percentages were reasonably reduced compared to those of pure PMMA and PVC. Both of composites indicated high transmittances between 640 nm and 800 nm. The optical constants of the PMMA/CR and PVC/CR composite films such as optical band energy gaps (Eg) estimated using Tauc’s model, refractive index and reflectance (%) were calculated. UV–Vis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA) measurements were used to confirm the breakdown of the -N = N- azo group bonds attached to the aromatic ring as a result of thermal decomposition of CR at 500 °C, and it was suggested that N2 gas was eliminated from the CR above 360 °C. The dielectric plots showed that the dielectric constant increased when the CR is doped up to 70 wt% in the polymer matrices. A further increase in the doping concentration of CR resulted in an increase of the dielectric constant. The dielectric constant decreased with an increase in the frequency for all of the samples. The ac (alternating current) conductivity values of PMMA and PVC showed an increase with increasing CR dopant in the polymer composites, while the ac conductivity values were found to be values between those of the pure polymers and CR.

Copolymers of N-(2-acetylbenzofuran-3-yl) methacrylamide (BFMAA) and ethyl methacrylate (EMA) were prepared by radical copolymerization. The composition of copolymers was estimated by 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The composites of P(BFMAA39-co-EMA) [COP1] and P(BFMAA15-co-EMA) [COP2] loaded 18 wt% graphite oxide (GO) were prepared utilizing Ultrasonic Homogenizer Sonicator Processor. The FT-IR, DSC, TGA and SEM techniques were used in the characterization of the copolymers and composites. The thermal degradation behavior of COP1 was investigated by FT-IR studies of the partially degraded copolymer. And, this copolymer was able to form a four-member amide ring and imidization via intramolecular while being heated above 340 °C. Dynamic TG analysis under argon gas was used to investigate the thermal decomposition processes of pure COP1 and COP1/GO. Two degradation models including the Flynn–Wall–Ozawa and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose methods were used to determine the apparent activation energy of the copolymer and its composite for approximately 65% of thermal decomposition occurred between 200 and 400 °C. The results also showed that average activation energy between 111.69 and 134.25 kJ/mol was obtained. The estimated activation energy values make it possible to build a simpler approach to expose the thermal decomposition behavior of copolymer and its composite. Dielectric and electrical behaviors of the copolymer composites having a semiconductor behavior filled with graphite oxide (GO) were investigated. The activation energy values of P(BFMAA15%-co-EMA)[COP2]/GO 18 wt% and COP1/GO 18wt% from dc conductivities were 0.182 eV and 0.245 eV, respectively.

In this study, firstly 7-hydroxy-4-chloroethyl coumarin compound was synthesized in accordance with the literature (Peterson et al. in Macromol Chem Phys 202: 775–784, 2001). Then, this compound was reacted with acryloyl chloride to form the 4-(chloromethyl)-2-oxo-2H chromen-7-yl-acrylate) monomer. A series of copolymers were prepared using this monomer and n-butyl acrylate monomer. TGA analysis system was used to examine the thermal properties of homopolymers and copolymers. The activation energies were calculated for thermal decomposition of homopolymer and certain copolymers according to Flynn–Wall–Ozawa method. TGA measurements were taken at different heating rates and given comparatively. The glass transition temperatures of the copolymers were determined by DSC analysis and these results were given comparatively. For investigating the dielectric properties of copolymers, dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor, and ac conductivity values were calculated in the range of 100 Hz–20 kHz frequencies. The results were plotted as a function of frequency. In addition, dielectric behaviors of residues were determined after heating to the first decay temperature of the two-stage decay polymers and compared with the first states.

Poly(1,2-epoxy-3-phenoxy)propane was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization using Sn (Oct) 2 as a catalyst and benzyl alcohol as an initiator. Homopolymer’s epoxy type was acylated with chloroacetyl chloride firstly and then modified with the diethanol amine. The polymers were characterized by FT-IR and 1H - NMR. Dye adsorption properties of poly(2-phenoxy ethyl [bis(2-hydroxy ethyl)amino]acetate) were investigated by using bromocresol green (BCG), alizarin yellow (AY) and methylene blue (MB). Amounts of dye holding polymers at different times were calculated and plotted as a function of time. According to the removal results, all of the dyes reach its highest efficiency at 90 min. The effect of pH on adsorption of dyes was studied in the pH range of 2–11. Kinetic models known as pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order were used to analyze the mechanism of adsorption, and the results indicated an adsorption kinetic compatible with the pseudo-second order. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were utilized to explain the adsorption equilibrium, and when it was compared with each other, it was revealed that the Langmuir isotherm model was better than Freundlich isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities of BCG, AY and MB were 52.63, 15.87 and 31.25 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, thermodynamic properties (Δ H∘, Δ S∘, Δ G∘) of modified polymer were investigated for the three dyes. According to the thermodynamic parameters, the adsorption of the dyes occurred spontaneously and was endothermic. The results of this study support that novel polymer, an inexpensive and effective adsorbent, could be used for dye removal from aqueous solutions.

2-Hydroxy-3-(1-naphthyloxy)propyl methacrylate (NOPMA) monomer was synthesized from reaction of 2-[(2-naphthyloxy)methyl]oxirane with methacrylic acid in the presence of pyridine. The polymerization of NOPMA was carried out by free radical polymerization method in the presence of AIBN at 60 A degrees C. The structure of monomer and polymer was characterized by H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy techniques. The glass transition temperature and average-molecular weights of poly(NOPMA) were measured using differential scanning calorimetry and gel permeation chromatography, respectively. The thermal degradation behavior of poly(NOPMA) has been investigated by FT-IR studies of the partially degraded polymer and thermogravimetry. The cold ring fractions (CRFs) were collected at two different temperatures, initially fraction-1 (CRF1) is from room temperature to 320 A degrees C, and the other fraction-2 (CRF2) is from 320 to 500 A degrees C. The volatile products of the degradation were trapped at -195 A degrees C (in liquid nitrogen). All the fractions were characterized by FT-IR, H-1 and C-13-NMR spectroscopic techniques, and the cold ring fractions (CRFs) were also characterized by GC-MS. For the degradation of polymer, the major compound between products of CRFs is alpha-naphthol. The GC-MS, FT-IR and NMR data showed that depolymerization corresponding to monomer was not prominent below 320 A degrees C in the thermal degradation of poly(NOPMA). The mode of thermal degradation containing formation of the major products was identified. The dielectric permittivity (epsilon'), the loss factor (epsilon aEuro(3)) and conductivity (sigma(ac)) were measured using a dielectric analyzer in the frequency range of 50 Hz to 20 kHz.
