- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ3DETERMINATION OF FAT DEPRESSION IN MILK FROM MECHANICAL MILKING IN WINTER AND SUMMER SEASON
Cimen, M.; Yildirimi, S.; Cetin, M.; Tekelioglu, O.
This research was aimed to investigate the fat depression in milk from mechanical milking in winter and summer period. The data was collected from Mega Agricultural Enterprise by DIMES Company during winter and summer months. The milk fat levels in this study are consistent with normal values for cows. In summer months (July and August), the milk fat rates were lower than test value (3.2%). Therefore, it was concluded that low levels of milk fat (<3.2%) in July and August was closely associated with milk fat depression. Low fat levels in milk from machine milking for summer period can cause to economical loss since the milk price depends on milk fat levels. The cheese producers must be careful about fat depression in milk from machine milking in summer period for achieving maximum benefit. Further studies are needed to investigate on fat depression in milk from machine milking.
- MakaleYalnız künye2010Scopus SJRQ3Variation in Advertisement Call Properties of the Japanese Quail
Sezer, M.; Tekelioglu, O.
The aim of this study was to investigate the amount variation in four spectral and six temporal properties of advertisement calls between and within-male Japanese quail and to establish the effect of age of sexual maturation to these properties. The first, second, third syllables and damping parts were 68.2, 74.3, 501.1 and 95.9 ms long, on average, and had peak frequencies of 1719.9, 1989.9, 2203.2 and 2352.7 Hz, respectively. There was high between individual variations in all call traits. In relation to within-male variation, there were high medians and low ranges for spectral properties while low medians and high ranges for temporal properties. Moderate positive correlations between syllable lengths and age of sexual maturation, low negative correlations between interval lengths and age of sexual maturation were observed. Repeatability of the advertisement call characteristics were hid, but estimates for spectral properties were slightly lower (0.66-0.82) than that for temporal properties (0.89-0.96). These results suggest that temporal call parameters have the potential to be used in individual identity and these traits might carry information used by females in mate choice. Spectral properties could be recognized as stable call properties that may be used in efficient transmission or species recognition.

- MakaleYalnız künye2010Scopus SJRQ3Biochemical Flavour Parameters of Milk in Early Lactation
Bayril, T.; Cimen, M.; Tekelioglu, O.
This research was aimed to investigate the biochemical flavour-parameters of milk by machine milking in early lactation period. In the experiment, milk samples from 50 Holstein cows were used. Cows were fed high-energy concentrate diet (140 g crude protein and 10.3 metabolizable energy MJ/d). The data was collected from DIMES Company during July month. The milk fat rates were lower (p < 0.05) for cows in first and second weeks than last week. Cows were shown to be more sensitive to milk fat syndrome for first and second weeks. A decrease in milk fat percentage for summer period (2.3-2.6 %) can directly lead to taste loss. There were statistically no significant differences between the weeks for milk acidity (sH and pH) values during July. The milk acidity values (sH and pH) during July were tolerable for desired taste and favourable for consumer preference.

- MakaleYalnız künye2010Scopus SJRQ3Biochemical Taste Parameters of Milk from Machine Milking Cows in Late Lactation Period
Tekelioglu, O.
This research was performed to investigate the effect of late lactation period on milk biochemical taste parameters such as fat and acidity of machine milked cows and to show these biochemical parameters during last month of late lactation. Cows were fed standard diet for lactation period. In the study, a total of 40 cow milk samples were collected and examined from DIMES Company during January month. The milk fat rates were lower (p<0.05) for cows in first week (2.8%) than last week (3.3%). There were statistically no significant differences between the weeks for milk acidity (sH and pH) values of machine milked cows. The milk fat and acidity values (sH and pH) during study were favorable for desired taste and consumer choice.
- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2010Scopus SJRQ3Milk Components from Machine Milking Cows in Winter and Spring Periods
Tekelioglu, O.; Cimen, M.; Soylu, D.; Soylu, I.
The aim of this study is to research the biochemical components in milks of machine milked cows for spring and winter season in different regions of Turkey. In study, all data were investigated for winter (December, January and February) and spring (March, April and May) periods in 2006. The milk fat levels were the highest in the winter season in Kayseri, Malya, Sahilkoy, Turhal and Pazar regions. The milk total solid levels were the lowest in the spring season for Kayseri Province. The milk sH values were the lower in the spring than winter season in Malya region. Whereas, there were no significant differences among regions for pH values in different periods. Low fat levels in total milk for spring period can cause to economical loss since the milk price depends on milk fat levels. Further studies are needed to investigate on milk components in different climatic conditions.

- MakaleYalnız künye2010Scopus SJRQ3The Milk Biochemical Parameters Having Economic Importance in Machine Milked Cows
Tekelioglu, O.; Cimen, M.; Bayril, T.
This research was aimed to investigate the effect of machine milking on milk biochemical components having economic importance. In the experiment, 10 Machine Milked (MM) and 10 suckled + Hand Milked (HM) cows were used. The milk fat rates were lower for MM animals in 1st, 2nd and 4th weeks (p<0.05). Protein and total solid rates of milks were similar for both groups during study. There was found positive correlation between milk fat and total solids (r = 0.53; p<0.05), but there were no significant correlations among other milk parameters. Suckling treatment (in BM group) to increase production of milk with maximum levels of milk fat is essential for achieving the economic benefits. Producers, who utilize the MM system during lactation should expect commercial milk to be low in fat content, which may affect cheese processing characteristics.

- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2010Scopus SJRQ3The Effect of Simulated Transportation on Biochemical Plasma Parameters of Japanese Quails
Tekelioglu, O.; Sezer, M.; Ekici, F.; Atis, O.; Akbas, A.
The effect of the duration of simulated transportation on blood SOD (Superoxide Dismutase), GSH-Px (Glutathione Peroxidase), AST (Aspartate Transaminase), ALT (Alanine Transaminase), GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transpeptidase), LDH (Lactic Dehydrogenase) enzyme levels and NO (Nitric Oxide) and MDA (Malondialdehyde) product levels was investigated in Japanese quails. Simulated transportation was carried out with a road simulator which was calibrated for Turkish roads conditions. Animals were loaded into well ventilated carrier boxes and carried at 2 and 5 h on the simulator. Blood samples were collected from 10-weeks-old Japanese Quails just after transportation. A significant (p<0.05) increase in all measured plasma parameters (except GGT) at 5 h transportation was observed. However, all of the plasma parameters have not shown a significant increase at 2 h transportation. This transportation duration might be the evidence of the time duration in still safe zone for Japanese Quails for that condition.
