Çimen, Murat; Güven, Alper
In this study, the effectiveness of using cluster analysis in determining the changes in the number of animals in the field of goat and buffalo breeding in the TRB1 region was tested. The numbers of goats and buffalos used in the research were obtained from the records kept by TÜİK between 2004 and 2023. According to the cluster analysis results, the numbers of buffalos in Elazığ and Bingöl provinces was found to be higher than Malatya and Tunceli provinces between 2004 and 2023. According to the specified years, while Bingöl province was found to be higher than other provinces in terms of the numbers of goats, it was determined that Malatya province had the lowest values. When analyzed by year, the numbers of buffalos in the provinces of the TRB1 region for the years 2004-2006 was found to be higher than the following years. In other words, it is understood that the numbers of buffalos has been decreasing in the TRB1 region since 2007. In the TRB1 region, goat numbers between 2012-2023 were found to be higher than those between 2004-2011. Accordingly, it can be said that there has been an increase in the number of goats in the TRB1 region since 2012. In the TRB1 region, appropriate regulations need to be made, taking into account the differences between provinces and years in terms of the numbers of buffalos and goats. In this study, it was seen that cluster analysis could be used successfully in determining the differences in animal numbers according to provinces and years.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2025Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Site Selection: Integrating Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods and Mathematical Modelling-A Case Study
Derse, Onur; Polat, Elifcan Göçmen
Increasing solid waste amount arisen from the urbanization and population growth is an inevitable outcome in many countries. Solid waste has become one of the serious environmental problems and peculiar solid waste pathways are required to prevent contamination of environment. The optimal planning of the waste management should comprise the operations such as minimization, collection, landfilling and recycling of the waste. Also, location selection for landfill of municipal solid waste (MSW) is an effective step even essential, due to growing area shortage for waste disposal. In this respect, landfilling of MSW has been addressed in Tunceli, Turkey using an integrated approach. The Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy-AHP), a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method, is utilized to decide the weights of the environmental, technical, economic, and social criteria regarding uncertainty. Then, the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is conducted to rank the alternative landfill districts. Finally, the sub locations of selected district are mathematical modelled regarding transport cost, investment cost and demand with an integer linear programming model. The computational results indicate the proposed method effectiveness with a systematic approach by integrating MCDM and mathematical modelling.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2023Theoretical and Practical Investigation of Stability Performance for Power Regulation in Hydroelectric Power Plants
Kahraman, Gökhan; Işık, Erdem
Hydroelectric power plants are the insurance of the interconnected system in order to provide fast energy to the system compared to other fossil fueled power plants. Hydroelectric power plants control the balance between the energy it supplies to the interconnected system and the pressurized water it uses with a system based on the fully automatic control principle. The quality of the energy supplied to the interconnected system depends entirely on this automatic control mechanism. In this study, mathematical models of the mechanisms that affect the automatic control system during the generation of energy in hydroelectric power plants are formed. Transfer functions of the obtained mathematical models are calculated by laplace transform. With the calculated transfer functions, the responses of the units of a hydroelectric power plant to the change of the amount of energy produced under different operating conditions are determined. The obtained data are compared with the actual conditions in a 1330 MW hydroelectric power plant with 8 Francis turbines. It is seen that the mathematical model and the turbine responses in real conditions are similar. In the calculations made at 115, 125, 135, 145 m. net head, the best stability conditions were obtained at 135 m. In addition, as a result of the calculations obtained under different operating conditions, ideal operating conditions are determined to minimize the fluctuations in energy production.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2023Phycoremediation of Thallium Toxic Metal Present in Gallery Water of an Abandoned Mine Area by Algae Cladophora fracta
Topal, Murat; Arslan Topal, E. Işıl; Öbek, Erdal
In this study, phycoremediation of thallium toxic metal present in galery water of an abandoned mine area was investigated by using Cladophora fracta. Within the scope of the study, a reactor containing Cladophora fracta was used and it was determined whether the Cladophora fracta accumulated thallium depending on time. Additionally, the bioconcentration factor was calculated. According to research findings; the accumulations of thallium by Cladophora fracta, compared with uncontaminated alga, were 225% at 5 min, 450% at 10 min, 550% at 20 min, 575% at 40 min, 700% at 60 min, and 900% at 120 min, respectively. BCF values were between 1000-5000. This indicated that Cladophora fracta had bioaccumulation potential. As a result, this research carried out in mining area has documented the phycoremediation of thallium in gallery water of an abandoned mine area.
