Karyotype Analysis of Five Bellevalia Lapeyr. Species (Asparagaceae) from Turkey

Eroğlu, Hüseyin; Pınar, Süleyman Mesut; Dogan, Gulden; Yavuz Paksoy, M.; Kiran, Yasar

The chromosome numbers and karyotypes of five species of the genus Bellevalia distributed in Turkey were analyzed. These taxa are B. anatolica B. Mathew & Özhatay, B. fominii Woronow, B. kurdistanica Feinbrun, B. rixii Wendelbo, B. turcica Pınar & Eroğlu. Three of them (B. anatolica, B. rixii and B. turcica) are endemic in Turkey. The chromosome numbers of all studied taxa were determeined as 2n=2x=8. Haploid chromosome lengths varied from 57.78 µm (B. fominii) to 68.17 µm (B. anatolica) among species. Karyotype analysis showed that Bellevalia taxa generally have median (m), submedian (sm), and subterminal (st) chromosomes, but not subterminal chromosomes in B. fominii species.

Comparative karyological analysis of some Turkish Cuscuta L. (Convolvulaceae)

Taşar, Neslihan; Tekbudak, İlhan Kaya; Demir, İbrahim; Açar, Mikail; Kürşat, Murat

This study investigated the somatic chromosome numbers and morphomet-ric properties of 11 different taxa belonging to the genus Cuscuta L., which is one of the parasitic flowering plants and causes significant economic losses on agricultural products. For this purpose, the species were examined karyologically and compared statistically. Belonging to the genus Cuscuta, C. campestris Yunck., C. hyalina Roth, C. kotschyana Boiss., C. babylonica Aucher ex Choisy, C. europaea L., C. kurdica Engelm., C. brevistyla A.Braun ex A.Rich, C. planiflora Ten., C. approximata Bab., C. lupuliformis Krock. C. palaestina Boiss. the chromosome number and morphology of the species were investigated using karyological techniques. Chromosome numbers of the species; C. kotschyana, C. babylonica, C. europaea, C. kurdica, C.planiflora 2n=14; C. campes-tris, C. hyalina, C. approximata, C. lupuliformis, and C. palaestina 2n=28 and C. brevi-styla 2n=42 is determined. Also, the species’ chromosome number, total chromosome length, relative length, arm ratio, centromere index and centromere states, and karyo-type asymmetry values were determined. Chromosome numbers of C. kotschyana and C. kurdica taxa were defined for the first time in this study. Thus, new data on the systematics of these species have been revealed.

Karyological investigation on five taxa of Bellevalia lapeyr. (Asparagaceae) from Turkey

Dogan, Gulden; Kiran, Yasar; Yavuz Paksoy, M.

The somatic chromosome numbers and karyotypes were examined in five Bellevalia taxa including two endemic species of B. chrisii and B. gracilis distributed in Turkey. The chromosome numbers were determined as 2n=2x=8 in all studied taxa [B. chrisii Yıldırım & B. Şahin sp. nov., B. glauca (Lindl.) Kunth., B. gracilis Feinbrun, B. longipes Post, B. sarmatica (Pallas ex Georgi) Woronow]. The karyotype formula was determined as 2m+sm+st in B. chrisii and B. longipes, 3m+st in B. glauca, B. gracilis and B. sarmatica. The findings for each of the analyzed taxa are compared with the results of previous studies.

Karyological investigation on seven centaurea L. (Asteraceae) Taxa from Turkey

Tasar, Neslihan; Dogan, Gulden; Kiran, Yasar

The somatic chromosome numbers and karyotypes were examined in seven species of genus Centaurea L. distributed in Turkey. The chromosome numbers were determined as 2n=2x=16 in C. behen L. and C. solstitialis L.; 2n=2x=18 in C. cynarocephala Wagenitz and C. agregata Fisch. & Mey. ex DC. ssp. agregata; 2n=2x=20 in C. iberica Trev. ex Sprengel; 2n=2x=26 in C. balsamita Lam.; 2n=4x=36 in C. virgata Lam. All of the chromosomes had centromeres at median point (M), median region (m), and submedian region (sm). Satellite chromosomes (sat-chromosomes) were observed only in C. virgata. The findings for each of the analyzed taxa are compared each other and with the results of previous studies.
