Aydin, Sevinc
As a result of the gradual decrease in natural resources and the increase in chronic diseases caused by unhealthy nutrition, the inclination among consumers toward food products that are both biologically active and beneficial, and environmentally friendly, is increasing. Therefore, environmental factors and agricultural practices that affect the amount of biologically active ingredients in these products have gained importance and become the subject of numerous scientific studies. Goldenberry (Physalis peruviana) is a yearly plant that is grown in mild climates, and it is a plant that is first planted in seed trays for primary development and then in the field for fruit production. Both its leaves, trunk, and roots have medicinal properties and its fruit is rich in components such as vitamins A and C, iron and phosphorus, flavonoid, and carotenoid which have made this plant, and particularly its fruit, more attractive. The amount and biological effect of these components, which are known as secondary metabolites, vary depending on the soil and the climate where this plant is grown and agricultural practices. With this compilation study, our aim is to summarize the studies that examined the positive or negative effects of environmental conditions that affect goldenberry cultivation and agricultural practices applied to increase the yield of the bioactive phytochemical ingredients of this plant, and thus to provide insight for relevant studies to be conducted.
