Background: In the presented study; the Effects of Arbutin (ARB) on the Rat Erythrocyte and serum fatty acid profile which is exposed to potassium bromate (KBrO3 ) were investigated. Materials and Methods: In this study, 32 Wistar albino rats weighing 250-300 g were used divided into 4 groups. Groups 1: control, group 2: KBrO3 (single dose 100 mg / kg gavage), group 3: ARB (50 mg / kg / day (ip) for 5 days), group 4: KBrO3 + ARB. At the end of the 5th day, alteration of fatty acid profile in erythrocyte and serum of rats in all groups was examined. Results: Rat serum essential fatty acid; palmitic acid (C16:0), myristic acid (C14:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2), erythrocyte major fatty acids; palmitic acid (C16:0), myristic acid (C14:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2), arachidic acid (C20:0), eicosenoic acid (C20:1), and lignoceric acid (C24:0). In addition, in our studied serum and erythrocytes; Total monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) varied between 8.91 ± 0.53-11.71 ± 2.55 and 33.71 ± 2.12-37.11 ± 2.12, respectively. It was determined that total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) varied between 5.90 ± 1.29-9.96 ± 1.18 and 14.72 ± 3.66-22.13 ± 4.82, respectively. Conclusion: In our study, alterations in fatty acid contents were observed, and results suggesting that arbutine affects the enzymes involved in Fatty acid metabolism and has an effect on fatty acid amounts.

Kutluyer, Filiz; Kocabaş, Mehmet; Erişir, Mine; Benzer, Fulya
The use of insecticides has been increasing along with increasing agriculture activities and has caused deleterious environmental impacts. Non-target organisms in particular, including fish, are affected by pesticides. In this work, the impacts of cypermethrin (CYP) on sperm oxidative stress markers and sperm motility were investigated in vitro. The CYP concentrations were 0 μg L-1 control, ethanol), 1.025 μg L-1, 2.05 μg L-1 and 4.1 μg L-1. Lipid peroxidation [Malondialdehyde (MDA)], non-enzymatic antioxidants [glutathione (GSH)] and enzymatic [superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT)] activities in sperm cells were examined for determination of oxidative stress status. Our findings showed that motility and survival of sperm cells significantly decreased with exposure to CYP. Biochemical assays revealed that CAT activity and levels of MDA and, GSH increased in spermatozoa based on CYP concentration while activity of GSH-Px and SOD decreased. Consequently, spermatozoa were highly sensitive to CYP exposure. It can be deduced that CYP has the potential to disrupt sperm quality and to cause to oxidative stress in sperm cells of S. coruhensis.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2017Scopus SJRQ3Determining the phytochemical parameters of pisum sativum (Pease) and effects on the development of debaryomyces hansenii
Erecevit, Pınar; Kırbağ, Sevda
Objective: In this work; phytochemical parameters (fatty acid, vitamin, phytosterol, flavonoid and resveratrol contents, and antioxidant activities antimicrobial activities) of Pisum sativum (pease) extracts prepared with Debaryomyces hansenii were detected. P. sativum (pease) is known as one of the nutritional sources of prebiotics. Methods: Phytochemical contents of extracts were evaluated with device and assays like Shimadzu 17, Shimadzu brand HPLC, Spectrophotometer device and well agar methods respectively. Results: it was observed that total fatty acid, flavonoid, contents in pease extracts were at low levels and vitamin, and phytosterol contents were at changing. It was detected that total fatty acid, vitamin and phytosterol contents; at significant rates of pease extracts prepared with D. hansenii; however, flavonoid contents decreased at different rates. In the work, it was noticed that pease had increasingly antioxidant activities and antimicrobial activities at changing rates, acordingly at fatty acid, vitamin and phytosterol levels; at significant rates increased. On the other hand, flavonoid extracts demonstrated scarcely any antimicrobial activity. When antimicrobial activities of pease extracts containing D. hansenii were analyzed, they had effect at increasing rates of fatty acid, vitamin and phytosterol. On the other hand, it was demonstrated that flavonoid extracts did not have any antimicrobial activity against all of the microorganisms except Bacillus megaterium DSM 32. Conclusion: it was detected that pease which is known as prebiotic food, can be used in terms of proper prebiotic and the relationship of proper prebiotic-prebiotic (symbiotic) for the development of D. hansenii used in this study which is also accepted as probiotic yeast. It was observed that this yeast type developing in extracts obtained from pease affected other beneficial nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, phenolic compounds at varying rates.
