In the present study, a fixed-bed column study was performed using a novel biocomposite mate-rial, Amanita vaginata immobilized on Amberlite XAD-4 resin, to find out the adsorption behavior of nickel (Ni2+) ions from industrial wastewater. The influence of some important operating conditions including pH (3–7), biocomposite material amount (150–250 mg (XAD-4:Amanita vaginata, 5:1)) influent flow rate (4–8 mL min–1) besides Ni2+ ions initial concentration (20–40 mg L–1) on the uptake of Ni2+ solution were also optimized using a synthetic water solution. A central composite design combined with response surface methodology was utilized to maximize Ni2+ ions removal using A. vaginata immobilized on Amberlite XAD-4 resin as a biocomposite material in a column biosorption process. A mathematical model was derived from the central composite design approach for predicting responses and analysis of variance. Also, for checking model adequacy a lack of fit test was carried out. It was determined that the checked and proposed quadratic model was derived from the experimental design data. The biocomposite material adsorption capacity was calculated as 6.28 mg g–1. A high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.9887) was presented by analysis of variance. Results confirmed that the amount of adsorbed Ni2+ amount did not change with the increase of the flow rate ratio and dose when the initial concentration of Ni2+ ions increased. The maximum adsorp-tion capacity of biocomposite material was achieved at 6.9 pH, 150.1 mg of biocomposite material amount, 7.8 mL min–1 of solution flow rate, and 39.7 mg L–1 of Ni2+ ions initial concentration. Finally, the developed method was applied to industrial wastewater to determine Ni2+ ions concentrations.

In the present study, novel chitosan coated magnetic magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were successfully biosynthesized from mushroom, Agaricus campestris, extract. The obtained bio-nanocomposite material was used to investigate ultra-fast and highly efficient for removal of Ni2+ ions in a fixed-bed column. Chitosan was treated as polyelectrolyte complex with Fe3O4 nanoparticles and a Fungal Bio-Nanocomposite Material (FBNM) was derived. The FBNM was characterized by using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier Transform Infrared spectra (FTIR) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) techniques and under varied experimental conditions. The influence of some important operating conditions including pH, flow rate and initial Ni2+ concentration on the uptake of Ni2+ solution was also optimized using a synthetic water sample. A Central Composite Design (CCD) combined with Response Surface Modeling (RSM) was carried out to maximize Ni2+ removal using FBNM for adsorption process. A regression model was derived using CCD to predict the responses and analysis of variance (ANOVA) and lack of fit test was used to check model adequacy. It was observed that the quadratic model, which was controlled and proposed, was originated from experimental design data. The FBNM maximum adsorption capacity was determined as 59.8 mg g−1. Finally, developed method was applied to soft drinks to determine Ni2+ levels. Reusability of FBNM was tested, and the adsorption and desorption capacities were not affected after eight cycles. The paper suggests that the FBNM is a promising recyclable nanoadsorbent for the removal of Ni2+ from various soft drinks.

In the present study, a novel biosorbent, namely Agaricus campestris, was used for the removal of Methylene Blue (MB) from an aqueous medium. The biosorbent was characterized using fourier-transform infrared spectrometer spectra, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray, and thermogravimetric analysis. The influence of important process parameters including pH (4–7), temperature (25°C–35°C), contact time (15–25 min), and biosorbent amount (40–80 mg) on the uptake of MB solution were also optimized, which significantly affected the removal efficiency of MB. A central composite design (CCD) combined with response surface modeling (RSM) was carried out to maximize MB removal by A. campestris for the adsorption process. A regression model was derived using RSM to predict the responses and analysis of variance (ANOVA), and to check model adequacy lack of fit test was used. The A. campestris adsorption capacity was determined as 24.2 mg g–1. The ANOVA showed a high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.9987). This study clearly revealed that RSM was one of the most effective and appropriate method for the optimization of operating conditions. The possibility of reusing A. campestris was also investigated and, as a result, it was found quite possible and showed high performance in the recovery of MB.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ2Evaluation the Weekly Intake of Some Wild Edible Indigenous Mushrooms Collected in Different Regions in Tunceli, Turkey
Alp, Hevidar; Ince, Muharrem; Ince, Olcay Kaplan; Onal, Ali
The quantity of some essential and non-essential elements of wild edible mushroom samples collected from Tunceli Province of Turkey was determined by using flame and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometer after microwave digestion. The method accuracy was corrected using standard reference material (NIST SRM 1547-Peach Leaves). The essential element concentrations of analyzed mushroom samples were determined in the range of 0.036–0.563 mg kg−1 for calcium, 1.28–2.55 mg kg−1 for magnesium, 0.054–0.188 mg kg−1 for sodium, 1.00–4.57 mg kg−1 for copper, 212–480 mg kg−1 for iron, and 75–151 mg kg−1 for zinc but cobalt and chromium were not detected. Based on results, there were statistically significant differences between the element contents of analyzed mushroom species. Consequently, according to this study results, the weekly intake and target hazard quotient values of the elements show that the consumption of these mushrooms does not threaten human health. - MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ3Biosorptive removal of eriochrome black-T using agaricus campestris: Parameters optimization with response surface methodology
Alp, Hevidar; Ince, Muharrem; Ince, Olcay Kaplan; Onal, Ali
In this study, Eriochrome Black T (EBT) removal from aqueous media by Agaricus campestris (AC) which is an eco-friendly biosorbent was investigated using a central composite design (CCD) combined with response surface methodology. The CCD was chosen as the statistical prediction method to reduce the number of experiments which, in turn, will directly save time and chemicals. To opti-mize the process, various experimental independent variables such as the pH of the solution, contact time, adsorbent dosage and temperature were selected. The optimal experimental conditions were obtained as 6.5, 30°C, 20 min and 20 mg, for solution pH, temperature, contact time and adsorbent dosage, respectively. Under these optimized conditions, maximum EBT (100 mg L–1 initial concentra-tion) removal efficiency was calculated as 64.2 mg g–1. The independent variables and their interaction significance were checked using analysis of variance and it was found that the EBT biosorption on AC was highly significant (p < 0.001). The results were justified by the relatively high correlation coefficients (R2 = 0.9967) of the statistical prediction. The EBT biosorption was confirmed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis monitoring the functional groups during EBT biosorption on AC. This was the first report on the parameter optimization of EBT biosorp-tion using AC in an experimental design. The used biosorbent was characterized by FTIR, scanning electron microscope coupled with energy dispersive spectrometer and thermogravimetric analysis. The proposed biosorption process efficiently removed EBT, present in various aqueous mediums and can be used in industrial processes.

In order to evaluate the potential ecological risk and the toxic effect of landfill leachate (LL), Phanerochaete chrysosporium was exposed to LL and their biochemical response was observed by using antioxidant parameters. Phanerochaete chrysosporium, ME 446, was kept at 4 °C after being sub-cultured at 28 °C on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities, and malaondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels of P. chrysosporium exposed to different dilution rates of leachate (1/10 and 1/20) for 24 and 96 h were analyzed by using the ELISA method. The physiochemical parameters such as pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD) of leachate, and reference water were analyzed by using the YSI Professional Plus handheld multiparameter meter. In this study, SOD activities were decreased in the application groups compared with the Control Group at the 24th and 96th hours. CAT activities and GSH levels increased in the application groups compared with the Control Group at the 24th hour but decreased at the 96th hours. MDA levels increased in all of the application groups when compared with the Control Group for both 24 and 96 h. Different concentration of LL induces oxidative stress in P. chrysosporium, increased CAT activity and MDA levels, and decreased SOD activity and GSH levels.

This study aims to explore the optimum conditions for P. eryngii var. ferulae in adsorption of sulfamethazine (SM) from synthetic solutions via reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD). The optimum conditions were optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM) developed by the application of the quadratic model associated with the central composite design. For this aim, RSM was employed to determine the effects of some parameters on this adsorption process by fungal biomass as an effective and available adsorbent. The investigated parameters were initial concentration of sulfamethazine (70–235 mg L−1), solution pH (3–7), adsorbent dosage (0.3–1.5 g), and contact time (5–25 min). The significant factors on each experimental design response were identified from the analysis of variance. The results of RSM analyzes revealed that optimum conditions of initial SM concentration, pH, adsorbent dosage, and contact time for maximum COD removal (82%) were achieved as 400 mg L−1, 11, 1.46 g, and 15.4 min, respectively. The results showed that dead biomass of P. eryngii var. ferulae were an appropriate adsorbent for the removal of COD in the SM medium from synthetic solutions.
