Machine Learning-Based A Comparative Analysis for Air Quality Prediction

    Utku, Anil; Can, Umit

Air pollution affects human life negatively, especially in terms of health, and causes the death of millions of people every year. Today, air pollution in many regions is still above the limits indicated by the World Health Organization. In this study, the prediction of the rate of PM2.5, which is an important air pollutant, in the Beijing region of China is emphasized. For this purpose, weather prediction models were created using Random Forest Algorithm, Support Vector Regression, XGBoost and K-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm, which are popular machine learning algorithms, and the results were compared using various metrics. The best prediction result in all the metrics used was obtained with the Support Vector Regression method.

Pneumonia Detection from Radiography Images using Convolutional Neural Networks

    Talo, Muhammed

Pneumonia continues to be the leading cause of child mortality in children under the age of five, and 2,400 children, most of whom are babies under 2 years of age, die from pneumonia. In this study, an automated detection system is proposed for the diagnosis of pneumonia with chest radiography images. With the transfer learning technique, ResNet-152 convolutional neural network was customized to recognize pneumonia from radiography images. With this customized architecture, a recognition success of 97.4% was obtained in the detection of pneumonia disease without any preprocessing of raw data or manual feature extraction on radiography images. This model, which was proposed for the detection of pneumonia, found to be more successful when compared with the other successful studies in the literature.

Fault Location on Series Compensated Power Transmission Lines Using Transient Spectrum

Akmaz, Duzgun; Mamis, Mehmet Salih; Arkan, Muslum; Tagluk, M. Emin

Nowadays sustainability and quality of energy have gained more importance. Power outages due to failures particularly cause interruption of production at industrial facilities may lead to loss of manpower and resources. One of the major causes of power outages in the power system is the short-circuit faults occurring in transmission lines. The most important requirement to clear the fault in a short time is to estimate the fault location quickly and accurately. In this study, fault location is determined in series compensated power transmission lines utilizing transient frequency spectrum. It has been shown that the method is suitable for series compensated lines.

Harmonic Analysis in Power Systems With Discrete Fourier Transform

    Akmaz, Duzgun; Mamis, Mehmet Salih

Harmonics has become more significant issue due to the increasing of utilization of the non-linear loads and switching elements such as inverter on the power system recently. Harmonics disrupts the shape of the current and voltage signals in power systems and leads to many problems in power systems. It has made harmonic analysis necessary on the power system. Harmonics has become more significant issue due to the increasing of utilization of the non-linear loads and switching elements such as inverter on the power system recently. In this study a method is designed to obtain a basic signal by using Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) in order to determine harmonics on power systems. The simulation of this method has been implemented by using Matlab/Simulink software package.

Yildirim, Ozal; Eristi, Belkis; Eristi, Huseyin; Ünal, Sencer; Erol, Yavuz; Demir, Yakup

In this study, a new FPGA based monitoring system has been developed for monitoring the power quality. Designed system performs the calculations of power quality parameters on real-time voltages and currents datas that are obtained from the network. FPGA devices that have recently become more popular in digital signal processing field is used in the structure of monitoring system. Designed power quality monitoring system has been established on electrical distribution panels of Tunceli University Vocational Schools. When the obtained test results are evaluated, it has been observed that the proposed power quality monitoring system is successful.
