Ecological sustainability and degrowth

Özet

Ecological sustainability recently has become a crucial matter of discussion. Thesustainable development, which has been denoted as a solution to the threat of theecological crisis, endorses the idea that the ecological problems can be overcome withinthe limits of the prevailing economic paradigm. On the contrary, this prevailing paradigmis based on the increasing production and consumption which jeopardise a possiblesolution. De-growth literature and movement is an emerging debate on the questions thatarise from the ecological sustainability perspective and it represents an alternativeconceptualisation of the ecological problem. In this point of view, the solution to ecologicalproblem is only possible within a new social order that is based on less production and lessconsumption, namely de-growth. In this manner, also it might be possible to alleviate thesocial inequalities globally.
