The goal of present study is to find the penolic contents, antioxidant activities and antimicrobial capacities in the seeds of five Salvia L. taxa two of which are endemics (Salvia euphratica var. leiocalycina and Salvia euphratica var. euphratica). The flavonoid and phenolic acid are determined by using HPLC while the antioxidant activities are determined based on different methods. Also, the antimicrobial activities of some Salvia species are determined by using the well agar method. The current study found that the studied Salvia species have low flavonoid. It has been found that Salvia euphratica var. euphratica has high vanillic acid, ferulic acid and rosmarinic acid among the studied taxa. Similarly, it has been found that Salvia euphratica var. euphratica has high DPPH and ABTS radical scavening capacity in all concentrations. It has been also found that Salvia euphratica var. euphratica has highest total phenolic content (372,63±0,87 µgGAE/mg) whilst Salvia tricholoda has low total phenolic content (46,41±1,71 µgGAE/mg). In addition, this study demonstrated that Salvia tricholoda has lowest metal chelating activity (37,35±0,51%). Furthermore, present study found that the lipid peroxidation levels of the studied Salvia taxa are between 18,21±0,37 mg/kg and 21,03±0,22 mg/kg while it has been found that the antibacterial properties of the Salvia taxa under study are altering.

Antimicrobial susceptibility test for poly (AN-co-VP) copolymer, which we think could be an ideal drug in treatment interventions was evaluated with disk diffusion method and minimum inhibitor concentration. In the antimicrobial measurement data, it was determined that the poly (AN-co-VP) copolymer dissolved in pure water is a significant inhibitory property against the growth of yeast (on Candida spp. with 11.33±0.3 mm barrier area) and dermatophyte fungi (on Epidermophyton sp. and Trichophyton sp.with 12.33±0.3 mm barrier area) (p<0.001) and no inhibitory properties were observed in preventing the growth of all bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus megaterium). MIC limit values that prevent the growth of dermatophytes and yeasts supporting the disc diffusion method are 50-100 μL. This study is an alternative approach in order to limit the spread of superficial fungal infections they cause and eliminate these infections that tend to become chronic since this polymer extract has no inhibitory properties on bacteria but prevents the growth of yeast and dermatophytes.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2020Description of the Protective Feature of Oregano Essential Oil Sold as a Commercial Site on Rainbow Trout
Kirbag, Sevda; Kuzgun, Nermin Karaton
The essential oil extracted from plants has a shelf-life effect. This study was carried out to determine the difference of natural oregano essential oil, which is considered to be a potential food additive, from commercially available, and its effects on rainbow trout containment by using low amounts of this essential oil. The changes in rainbow trout samples were analyzed by applying commercially available oregano essential oil at a low rate (RT1: 1% and RT2: 2%), by looking at the following parameters. When the microbial load, sensory properties, pH, TVB, TBA numbers are examined in terms of thyme essential oil application and day relationship, the limit to be consumed in samples with 1% oregano essential oil is (RT1), on average, between the 3rd and the 6th days. It is between the 3rd and 9th days in the samples applied with 2% oregano essential oil (RT2). According to the microbial load results, the rainbow trout sample (RT: control) exceeded the consumable limit on day 6 th and showed the highest value (P <0.05). In addition, it has been proven with the TVB and TBA values that the samples applied with essential oil are of good quality. In a sense, the shelf life is stabilized thanks to the oregano essential oil. The preservative effect was greater as soon as the oregano essential oil concentration was greate.

The chemical composition of hydro distilled essential oil from Origanum acutidens (Hand. and Mazz.) Ietswaart was collected from Tunceli (Turkey) were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Essential oil and methanol extract of Origanum acutidens were tested against Yersinia ruckeri (ATCC 29473), Aeromonas hydrophila (ATCC 607920), Lactococcus garviae (ATCC 43921) Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29213) fish pathogenic bacterial strains. The analysis of the essential oil of Origanum acutidens showed the presence of 6 components accounting for 93.8 % of the total amount. Calvacrol (61.8 %), p-cymene (15.5 %) and thymol (12.7 %) that possessed antimicrobial activity were found as the major component. The final concentrations of the methanol extract and the essential oil were determined by using disk diffusion assay. Mean inhibition zones of bacterial strains for Origanum acutidens essential oil varied from 28.0 +/- 1.2 and 36.7 +/- 0.7 mm. The inhibition zones of methanol extract (10 mu L and 20 mu L) of Origanum acutidens against bacterial strains were in the range 8.7 +/- 0.7 - 11.0 +/- 0.6 mm and 12.7 +/- 0.67 - 22.7 +/- 1.3 mm, respectively. Our results suggest that both the methanol extract and the essential oil of Origanum acutidens may be valuable as potential antibacterial agents against the major fish pathogens.
