The orıgın, structure and meanıngs of places ın tunceli

    Tosun, İbrahim; Koç, Ali

Since the time of their existence, human beings have attempted to name themselves, their self-perceived things through their own eyes by keeping some features into the foreground, and thus tried to make life easier. All these words that are formed by the language and that refer to the living and inanimate beings in nature are defined as names. According to this, it can be said that the names first appeared in the language system. Today, most of the vocabulary of spoken languages consists of names. The onomatology (onomastic), which is the study of what is seen and perceived on earth in the present day, is particularly concerned with the people’s names, their surnames and the names of the places. The branch of the science that examines the names of the places is called “toponomy”. The oldest settlements in Tunceli are Pertek, Hozat, Çemişgezek and Mazgirt. The region is generally known as Dersim in history. Today, most of the names of places related to Tunceli have been changed as a result of translating into Turkish after the establishment of the Republic. Nonetheless, local names are also found in the region. When we look at the names of the places in Tunceli in general, it is seen that they are related to geographical characteristics and nature. Vocalisation from k- into g- from old turkish to turkish of turkey

    Tosun, İbrahim; Koç, Ali

Language is a structure in which sounds, formed by people’s speech organs, are turned into meaningful units systematically, which have always been changing and developing. When we look at the historical process of languages, they have been in change, and in development as a consequence during the written history. It is possible to see that one language is divided into dialects, even into different languages according to the levels of the changes. There are limited sounds in languages because the sounds, formed by people, are limited. These limited sounds, which form the raw material of languages, are grouped according to how they are shaped. Durind this shaping, sounds dissociate from each other, as vowels and consonants according to whether or not they meet an obstacle in sound path. Consonants which are shaped as a result of meeting an obstacle in sound path gain voiced or unvoiced quality as a result of vibration of vocal cords or vice versa. Unvoiced quality in vowels is related to the fact that the vocal cords do not vibrate during pronunciation. In that case, unvoiced consonants are vocalised by more dominant, audible breath. This causes the speaker to make a great effort. It is common that unvoiced consonants turn into voiced consonants because of least-effort principle in langauages. We look at the historical development of Turkish, it is possible to see that some unvoiced consonants turned into voiced counterparts. From the first written texts in Old Anatolian Turkish until today, the event of vocalisation has continued especially at the beginning of words as a general and common quality in Eastern and Northen Turkish. It began to give the first written examples in the thirteeenth century, and the point is that Old Anatolian Turkish based on ghuzz language accepted vocalisation as a general rule from beginning until today. This study deals with the historical developments of the change from k into g, that is one of the most common examples of vocalisation in Turkish. Vocabularies of the Works, which inherited to us from different historical periods dated from the appearence of Turkish as a literal written language, are examined, and data related to this matter are subject to evaluate as a result of this examination. In the wake of this evaluation, we try to determine when and how this change began, and which stages it was subject to, and how it came down. STRUCTURED ABSTRACT

Sentence types and subordinate clause in terms of structure

    Tosun, İbrahim; Koç, Ali

Sentence in the language known as judicial units in terms of the location of the item is founded as discrete from language to language, they are similar in terms of the elements of these organizations. Therefore, each of the sentences in the language definition, functions and duties are the same. Due to this fact and sentence classification criteria taken into account in the analysis can be applied to sentences in all languages is becoming a universal character. In the language of this general, universal properties of specific methods of sentence analysis has led to the emergence and of theoretical. Noam Chomsky's “Manufacturer Transformational Grammar Theory” of sentences and other grammatical categories are similar in all languages of the property, is based on universality. Many studies have been made on the topic sentence in Turkish so far. Although a substantial part of these studies is related to the types of sentence and syntactic order of sentence, some of them handle general grammar of Turkish and give place to the sentence. Despite the multitude of studies, all aspects of the subject in Turkish sentence have not been clarified yet. Especially sentences in terms of structure and on terms that form this area have not provided a complete unity. The most controversial issues of this area are the status of the subordinate clause installed with verbals, simple and compound sentences, sequential sentence and top units of sentences. Taking into account the differences of opinion that is stil ongoing in these issues, in this study, the sentences in terms of structure on the basis of what has been said until now, a collective assessment about sentence structure has been studied. Despite opposing views and conflicting statements, widely

A text lınguıstıcs approach to the short story “sınağrıt baba” by saıt faık

    Tosun, İbrahim

“Text” is a term frequently used both in literature and linguistics. Although there are slightly different definitions of the word, it is commonly agreed that there are certain criteria to being a text. Text linguists agree that a text must have coherence, consistency, intentionality, admissibility, contingency, informativity and intertextual connection. In the field of textual analysis, text linguistics and functional grammar aim to determine consistency relations and how paragraph structure can be designed through patterns of plot development. The two most important criteria in determining textuality and analyzing a text are coherence and consistency, which are also known as small and big scale structures. Linguistic regulations that create coherence in a small scale structure are used to show the development of the plot which enables the creation of general meaning in a big scale structure. For this reason, analysing texts in ‘structural’, ‘meaningful’ and ‘functional’ terms necessitate analyses through big scale criteria. In the present study titled “A Text Linguistics Approach to the Short Story Sinağrit Baba by Sait Faik, structuring of the text in surface structure or in other words its structural characteristics will be investigated in terms of coherence and the characteristics that reflect the general meaning of the text in the deep structure and constitute the contents of the text will be investigated in terms of consistency. How textual linguistic coherence and consistency are realized in the text in the short story “Sinağrit Baba” will be evaluated with examples from the story

The characterıstıcs of turkmen dıalects ın the dıstrıct of tunceli

    Tosun, İbrahim

The Turkmen dialects in the district of Tunceli which are placed in the Eastern Group according to Karahan classification include the dialects of the oldest settlements in the region such as Pertek, Hozat, Çemişgezek and Mazgirt and also some of their villages. The Turkish groups which settled down along the borders through Keban Dam in the south and southwest of Tunceli use this dialect. While the Turkmen dialects in the district of Tunceli overlap Elazığ/Harput completely, they have a partial connection with that of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia in terms of the dialect characteristics. Moreover, most of the characteristics of these dialects determined below have lots of in common with the dialects of Eastern Group and some of these are specific to that region and characterized. While the Turkmen dialects in the region were being examined approximately forty characteristics were defined and these characteristics were supported by the examples collected from these dialects. Although the Turkmen dialects in the district of Tunceli have a unity in terms of these forty characteristics some minor, regional and phonetic differences indicate that this Turkmen dialect has three different dialect sub-groups in itself. When the general characteristics of the dialects in the region are considered together it is observed that mostly the language characteristics of Avşar from Turkish branches are dominant in the region and then that of Salur scarcely. It must also be said that since the settlement of the Oghuz in these territories, through forced migrations and relocations due to various reasons, tribes have intermingled so much that in most cases it is impossible to determine which Oghuz tribe is concentrated in which area. The same difficulty also applies to determining the dialect characteristics of some areas according to tribes
