Uyan, Umut; Ibin, Adil
Background The increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools into workplace practices has reshaped how employees process information and perform cognitive tasks. While these systems are often associated with superior efficiency, their excessive use may entail significant cognitive costs. Objective Grounded in automation complacency perspective and the growing literature on technology addiction, this study investigates how dependence on artificial intelligence is associated with cognitive engagement in the workplace, with particular attention to the mediating role of cognitive fatigue. Methods Adopting quantitative research design, data were collected from 246 academic and administrative staff who actively use AI tools in their daily work routines. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the theoretical model proposed. Results The findings indicate that dependence on AI was positively associated with cognitive fatigue (beta = 0.569; t = 13.468; p = 0.000) and negatively with cognitive engagement (beta = -0.174; t = 2.503; p = 0.012). In addition, the relationship between cognitive fatigue and cognitive engagement was found to be negative and statistically significant (beta = -0.207; t = 2.773; p = 0.006). Mediation analysis further revealed that cognitive fatigue partially mediates the relationship between dependence on AI and cognitive engagement (indirect effect beta = -0.118, t = 2.724, p < .01; VAF = 40.5%). Conclusion These results suggest that higher levels of dependence on AI correspond to higher employee cognitive fatigue, which in turn relates to lower cognitive engagement at work. By empirically demonstrating the cognitive costs of AI reliance, this study contributes to the emerging literature on workplace AI and technology addiction.

Ordin, Yaprak Sarigol; Kankaya, Eda Ayten; Celik, Buket
Introduction: Gender disparity remains a global issue in access to renal replacement therapy and kidney transplantation among patients with end-stage kidney disease. Aim: This study examined trends in donor type, recipient age, and dialysis modality in kidney transplantation in T & uuml;rkiye from 2013 to 2022. A secondary aim was to explore gender disparities in kidney transplantation and treatment modalities for end-stage kidney disease using registry data. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study analyzed the distribution and trends of kidney transplants in T & uuml;rkiye between 2013 and 2022. The data were obtained from the publicly accessible Registry of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Transplantation reports in Turkiye. Per million population increase/decrease rate, chi(2) linear trend, and chi(2) R by C were used. Results: Overtime, transplants from living donors increased, while deceased donor transplants decreased. The highest rates of living donor transplants were in 2022, 2021, and 2019. Transplants in high-risk age groups increased significantly. There were differences in donor type among patients receiving hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or preemptive transplantation (p < .001). Preemptive transplants showed the most significant increase, especially from living donors in 2022. Between 2013 and 2022, kidney transplantation increased by 24.67% in men and 19.94% in women. Female transplant rates were lowest in 2016, 2020, and 2021, indicating a persistent gender gap. There was no significant gender difference in the incidence of hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Conclusion: Living donor transplants, especially preemptive ones, increased markedly over the past decade. Gender disparities persist, and efforts should focus on improving access for women and promoting deceased donor programs to ensure equity.

- MakaleYalnız künye2017Scopus SJRQ1Examination of the Correlation Between Internet Addiction and Social Phobia in Adolescents
Yayan, Emriye Hilal; Arikan, Duygu; Saban, Fatma; Bas, Nazan Gurarslan; Özcan, Ozlem Ozel
This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study conducted with adolescents to examine the correlation between Internet addiction and social phobia. The population of the study consisted of 24,260 students aged between 11 and 15 years. Sampling method was used from population with known number, and 1,450 students were calculated as sample of the study. In this study, 13.7% of the adolescents had an Internet addiction, and 4.2% spent more than 5 hr on the computer every day. There was a positive correlation between Internet addiction and social phobia. The form of time spent on Internet was examined in terms of addiction and social phobia; although Internet addiction was related to games, dating sites, and web surfing, social phobia was related to homework, games, and web surfing. It was hypothesized that adolescents with social phobia were Internet addicts, and the participants used the Internet to spend time rather than socialize.

- MakaleYalnız künye2012Scopus SJRQ1Effectiveness of a Multistimulant Home-Based Program on Cognitive Function of Older Adults
Karatay, Gulnaz; Akkus, Yeliz
The purpose of this study was to test the effects of a multistimulant home-based program on cognitive function among older adults. This study was conducted in northeastern Turkey between March and June 2010. It was planned as an experimental versus control two-group design and carried out on 96 (intervention group = 48, control group = 48) participants. The intervention and control groups were similar regarding sex, education, partner status, and continuous drug use. Data were collected with a Standardized Mini Mental Test, the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), and the Beck Anxiety Scale. Each senior received a total of 10 home visits on a once-per-week basis. Results for the intervention group showed that the Mini Mental State Test scores of the participants had statistically increased, and the Beck Anxiety and the GDS scores showed a decrease. The study found an association between the multistimulant home-based intervention program and cognitive function.
