Araştırmada örneklem hesabına gidilmeyip her iki üniversitede öğrenim gören tüm ebelik öğrencilerine ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Gönüllülük esasına dayanarak araştırmaya katılan 372 ebelik öğrencisi ile çalışma tamamlanmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri “Kişisel Bilgi Formu”, “İnönü Evlilik Tutum Ölçeği (İETÖ)” ve “Kadın Gebelik Öncesi Doğum Korkusu Ölçeği (KGÖ-DKÖ)” ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirmesinde SPSS (25.0) istatistik paket programında sayı, yüzde dağılımları, ortalama, standart sapma, Independent t-test, One-Way Anova, Tukey ve korelasyon testleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 20,71±1,55’tir. Öğrencilerin %80,1’i çekirdek aile yapısına sahip, %54,3’ü il merkezinde yaşamakta, %96.8’i çalışmamakta ve %56.7’sinin geliri giderine eşittir.

The Effects of Perineal Massage Performed During Labor on Childbirth Comfort, Perineal Pain, and Trauma in Nulliparous Women: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Yaşar Yetişmiş, Habibe; Aksoy Derya, Yeşim

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of perineal massage performed during labor on childbirth comfort, perineal pain, and genital tract trauma in nulliparous women. Material and Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study with a control group. The sample consisted of a total of 182 pregnant women, including 91 in the experimental group and 91 in the control group. Perineal massage was performed in the experimental group two, four, and four to six times during the latent, active, and transition phases, respectively. The participants in the experimental group continued to receive perineal massage with every push throughout the second stage of labor. Data were collected using the “Personal Introductory Form”, “Visual Analog Scale (VAS)”, “REEDA Scale” and “Childbirth Comfort Questionnaire (CCQ)”. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of labor conditions including duration of the second stage of labor, perineal trauma status, severity of perineal trauma, and episiotomy application status (p<0.05). After perineal massage, the CCQ mean score at the end of the active phase was 30.53±8.78 in the experimental group and 26.83±7.78 in the control group (p<0.05). Additionally, the postpartum VAS mean score was 3.04±2.08 in the experimental group and 5.72±2.64 in the control group (p<0.001). The REEDA mean total score was 3.23±0.53 in the experimental group and 5.50±1.70 in the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Perineal massage administered to nulliparous women during labor increased childbirth comfort and decreased perceptions of perineal pain, and it was associated with lower rates of genital tract trauma.

Assessment of health status management in women with gestational diabetes

Aksoy Derya, Yeşim; Karadağ, Ezgi; Oltuluoğlu, Hatice

Objective: The aim of the study is to assess the health management in women with gestational diyabetes mellitus. Method: Designed as descriptive and crosssectional, the study was performed in the pregnancy clinic of a university hospital between 1st January and 31st August 2010. All patients applying to the clinic during the study with gestational diyabetes via oral glucose tolerance testing (n=149) constituted the universe of the study. Not using insulin, pregnant were included in the study that participating in the educational program at least for two months between the weeks 24 and 38 during their pregnancies. Totally 120 individuals were recruited, 60 as insulin-diet-exercise health management program, and 60 in only diet-exercise health management program. Findings: The mean age of the women were 32,8±5,1 and 47,5% were primary school graduates. Of the women, 80.8% were housewives. It was determined that the mean HbA1c (p=0,016) and postprandial blood glucose levels (p=0,034) of women in insulin-diet-exercise health management program were statistically and significantly lower and controlled than those in onlydiet-exercise health management program. The mean fasting blood glucose level was lower in those using insulin, but this score was statistically insignificant (p=0,131). The comparison of the two groups revealed that the rate of compliance with the diet (p=0,003) and exercise (p=0.269) programs prescribed was lower in those using insulin. Conclusion: Forming life style changes by involving women into health management programs effectively plays a key role in decreasing the negative effects of gestational diyabetes mellitus to the lowest levels for both the mothers and the newborns.
