Background: This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and mental well-being among university students and to reveal the mediating role of problem-solving skills in this relationship. Methods: Of these students, 707 participated, and the Emotional Intelligence Trait Scale, the Warwick-Edinburgh Psychological Well-being Scale, and the Problem-Solving Inventory were used as data collection tools. The SPSS software was used for data analysis. Results: Emotional intelligence appears to have a significant effect on mental well-being, and emotional intelligence directly significantly predicts problem-solving skills, but mental well-being does not have a significant effect on problem-solving skills. Emotional intelligence appears to have a direct effect on problem-solving, and mental well-being mediates this effect. The explanatory power of the model is moderate in terms of the role of emotional intelligence in predicting mental well-being and more limited in terms of its role in predicting problem-solving skills. Conclusion: In conclusion, emotional intelligence strengthens individuals’ mental well-being and directly positively impacts their problem-solving skills. However, mental well-being does not play a mediating role in the problem-solving process. This suggests that the direct effect of emotional intelligence is primary in improving problem-solving skills, and mental well-being does not serve as a decisive mediating factor in this process. Therefore, interventions aimed at strengthening emotional intelligence can be effective both in enhancing individuals’ mental well-being and in directly supporting problem-solving skills.

İnce, Uğur; Özcan, Büşra; Siyahtaş, Anıl; Erdoğan, Ramazan
Background – This study examines the relationship between authentic leadership and employees’ contextual performance and investigates its association with work engagement. Specifically, the aim was to explore how authentic leadership practices are associated with employee motivation and job performance in the sports sector. Methods – The study employed a quantitative research method using measures of authentic leadership, work engagement, and contextual performance. Data were collected through surveys administered to participants, and various statistical analyses were conducted. A mediation analysis was conducted to examine whether work engagement mediates the relationship between authentic leadership and contextual performance. Results – The analysis showed that authentic leadership is positively associated with work engagement (β = 0.516; p < 0.001). Work engagement is also positively associated with contextual performance (β = 0.393; p < 0.001). Mediation analysis suggested that authentic leadership is indirectly associated with contextual performance through work engagement [indirect effect β = 0.205; 95% CI (0.152, 0.259); p < 0.001], while the direct association between authentic leadership and contextual performance remained significant (β = 0.311; p < 0.001). Conclusion – The study’s results indicate that authentic leadership is positively associated with contextual performance via higher employee engagement in the sports sector. The trusting environment and supportive communication provided by authentic leaders are associated with higher employee motivation and linked to better performance outcomes. The findings suggest that sports managers may benefit from cultivating authentic leadership qualities, which are likely to be associated with greater organizational effectiveness.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Short-term effects of powerlifting-based training on hormonal, metabolic, and lipid profile markers in male basketball players: a randomized controlled trial
Tizar, Ercan; Erdoğan, Ramazan
Background: Powerlifting-based resistance training is increasingly incorporated into athletic conditioning programs; however, its short-term endocrine and metabolic responses remain insufficiently explored. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the short-term, exercise-induced changes associated with a powerlifting-based training program on selected hormonal, metabolic, and lipid profile parameters in male basketball players. Methods: This randomized controlled experimental study was conducted in accordance with CONSORT guidelines. Thirty male basketball players aged 18–24 years were randomly assigned to an exercise group (EG; n = 15) or a control group (CG; n = 15). Both groups continued their routine basketball training three days per week for six weeks, while the EG additionally performed a powerlifting-based training program. Serum concentrations of thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, and T4), insulin, glucose, growth hormone, testosterone, and lipid profile parameters were assessed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance to evaluate group × time interactions. Results: Significant group × time interactions were observed for several biochemical parameters (p < 0.05). In the exercise group, insulin levels increased by 53.31%, while pre-exercise glucose levels under standardized conditions decreased by 14.46%. Thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4) increased by 45.26%, 18.85%, and 18.25%, respectively. Growth hormone and testosterone levels increased by 28.49% and 18.22%, respectively. In contrast, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels decreased by 2.49%, 4.28%, and 3.76%, respectively, while HDL cholesterol increased by 5.63%. No significant changes were observed in the control group. Effect size analyses indicated large interaction effects for key variables (e.g., insulin ηp² = 0.749; glucose ηp² = 0.757). The concurrent increase in insulin and decrease in glucose may reflect transient alterations in glucose–insulin dynamics rather than a direct improvement in insulin sensitivity. Conclusion: The inclusion of a powerlifting-based training program was associated with favorable short-term, exercise-induced changes in selected hormonal, metabolic, and lipid profile parameters in male basketball players. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution due to the limited sample size and intervention duration. Further studies employing larger cohorts and longer training periods are warranted to confirm these observations and to clarify their long-term physiological implications. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07398248), registered on 29/12/2025.

Karayol, Metin; Murathan, Talha; Erdoğan, Ramazan; Akarsu, Mehmet; Baş, Muhammet; Norman, Göktuğ
Background: This study examines the relationship between the levels of digital citizenship and attitudes toward cyberbullying among prospective physical education and sports teachers. Methods: This quantitative study adopted the relational survey model within its research framework. The sample consists of prospective physical education and sports teachers who studied in the Physical Education and Sports Teaching departments at universities during the 2022–23 academic year. The sample was determined using the convenience sampling method. The sample was administered a personal information form created by the researchers, as well as the Digital Citizenship Scale and the Cyberbullying Attitude Scale. Results: According to the MANOVA results for the Digital Citizenship and Cyberbullying Attitude scales, significant differences were found in the Digital Law, Digital Rights and Responsibilities, Approval and Anxiety subscales based on gender. However, the Pearson correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between age and the subscales of the Digital Citizenship and Cyberbullying Attitude scales. However, the Pearson correlation analysis of the Digital Citizenship and Cyberbullying Attitude subscales revealed significant positive and negative relationships. Conclusion: The results of the path analysis of the digital citizenship scale and its subscales (identity concealment, enjoyment, approval and anxiety) showed that digital citizenship significantly predicted identity concealment, enjoyment, approval and anxiety.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2The effects of different exercise loads in plyometric resistance training on respiratory and hormonal levels in female volleyball players
Kavuran, Korhan; Tizar, Ercan; Oral, Diclehan; Erdoğan, Ramazan; Çelikel, Baha Engin; Ceylan, Tülay; Sezer, Süreyya Yonca; Karataş, Baykal
Background: The present study set out to ascertain the effects of combined exercises, consisting of resistance training and plyometric exercises at varying degrees of intensity, on biochemical and respiratory parameters in female volleyball players. Methods: The research group consisted of 20 professional female volleyball players who participated in national and international volleyball competitions. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: a control group (n = 10) that performed low-intensity exercises at 30%–50% intensity, and an experimental group (n = 10) that followed a high-intensity exercise programme at 60%–80% intensity. Blood samples and spirometric respiratory function values were collected before and after the 8-week exercise program. The biochemical analyses included the assessment of luteinizing hormone (LH), growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and total iron binding capacity. Respiratory function was analysed using forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and forced expiratory flow at mid-expiration (FEF). The data were analysed using the SPSS statistical package. Results: The results demonstrated a decline in IGF-1, GH, and total iron-binding capacity levels, and an increase in LH levels, in the biochemical parameters of the control group. Additionally, FVC, FEV1, and FEF values exhibited an increase in the control group. Conversely, the experimental group demonstrated a significant increase in LH, GH, IGF-1, and total iron-binding capacity levels. With regard to respiratory parameters, an increase in FEF values was observed, whilst FVC and FEV1 values decreased. The present findings suggest that high-intensity plyometric resistance exercises have more pronounced effects on biochemical responses, but may trigger different adaptation mechanisms in respiratory capacit. The results of the study showed that there was a difference between the control group’s GH, IGF-1, FVC, and FEV1 data and the experimental group’s GH, IGF-1, FVC, and FEV1 data. Conclusions: In conclusion, plyometric resistance exercises at varying intensities influence both respiratory and biochemical parameters in female volleyball players. Accordingly, well-planned and individualised plyometric resistance training programmes are thought to enhance both the health and athletic performance of athletes.
