Orhan, İlksen; Yağmur, Yurdagül
Background: This study aims to determine the effect of motivational interviewing (MI), an effective communication technique, on healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life in menopausal women. Methods: This is a randomized controlled empirical study. The study was conducted with a total of 136 women, including 68 for experimental group and 68 for control group. The data were collected using an introductory information form, the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLPL II) and the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL). Women in the experimental group received 6 sessions of motivational interviewing and 2 follow-up interviews in two family health centers (FHCs) from the researcher. No intervention was applied to women in the control group. The data were analyzed using number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test, Bonferroni test, independent samples t test and repeated ANOVA. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the HPLPL II total scale and health responsibility, nutrition, spiritual development, interpersonal relationships, and stress management subscales pre-test, interim test and post-test mean scores of women in the experimental group, and their mean scores increased positively (p < 0.001). In addition, a statistically significant difference was also found between their MENQOL vasomotor, psychosocial, physical and sexual domains pre-test, mid-test and post-test mean scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Motivational interviewing was found to be effective in increasing healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life in menopausal women. Trial registration: Current Controlled Trials NCT06802458, 17/01/2025 (https//clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT06802458), “Retrospectively registered”.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Determination of cardiometabolic risk in pre- and post-menopausal women
Orhan, İlksen; Koçak, Hatice Serap; Kaplan, Emine
Objective: The study was designed to determine and compare the cardiometabolic risk in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Methods: Data were collected using cross-sectional and correlational study. In this study, the sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, and biochemical parameters of menopausal women were examined. Results: The average age of menopausal women is higher compared to premenopausal women. Menopausal duration, number of children, daily cigarette consumption, body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin, AST (aspartate aminotransferase), and Framingham risk score are higher in menopausal women compared to premenopausal women. Conversely, height, HDL (high-density lipoprotein) level, LDL (low-density lipoprotein) level, TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), ALT (alanine aminotransferase), HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), serum albumin, and visceral adiposity index (VAI) values are lower in menopausal women compared to premenopausal women. Conclusion: These findings indicate changes in the metabolic profiles of menopausal women. This study could serve as an important resource for assessing the health status of menopausal women and for implementing appropriate measures. Clinical trial number: not applicable.

Orhan, İlksen; Ünal, Esra; Ağralı, Cansu
Psychological resilience is a significant factor affecting feelings of guilt, as it helps mothers maintain a better balance between work and family responsibilities. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between employment guilt and the psychological resilience levels of working mothers. The research involved 483 working mothers residing in Osmaniye province, Turkey, who were employed in various fields. In this cross-sectional correlational study, data were collected online via Google Forms using the Personal Information Form, the Maternal Employment Guilt Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. The results of this study suggest that as the psychological resilience levels of working mothers increased, their employment guilt levels decreased. The results from this research can be used to identify potential interventions that could mitigate the negative effects of employment guilt on psychological resilience.

Orhan, İlksen; Koçak, Hatice Serap
Objective: The nutritional status of seasonal migrant agricultural workers is negatively affected by problems with working conditions, wages, accommodations, and living conditions. This study aimed to investigate the living conditions, dietary habits, and food consumption frequency of seasonal migrant agricultural workers in Turkey. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in July and August 2022 in the neighborhoods of Akçadağ district in Malatya Province, Turkey. The sample of the study consisted of 262 seasonal migrant agricultural workers aged 15 and over who came to the region for the apricot harvest. The data were obtained using the face-to-face interview technique via a two-part questionnaire including questions on socio-demographic characteristics, living conditions, dietary behaviors and food consumption frequency. Results: The mean age of the seasonal migrant agricultural workers was 24.16 ± 0.75, and they worked 12.01 ± 0.10 hours per day on average. It was determined 74.8% of the workers had access to clean water, and 50.4% did not think they had an adequate and balanced diet. It was found only 57.3% of the workers had a normal body mass index, 80.2% never ate fish, 53.8% never ate red meat, and 67.2% never drank milk, while only 34.4% were able to eat seasonal vegetables. Conclusion: The findings of the study show that seasonal migrant agricultural workers in Turkey do not have suitable conditions in terms of food and accommodations, and their working conditions, wages, and health conditions are inadequate. Yağmur, Yurdagül; Orhan, İlksen
Background: Sexuality is an important factor that completes the lives of individuals and affects people in all age groups. Objectives: To examine the sexual functions of women before and after menopause. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Family Health Centers in Tunceli Turkey,\ between September 2014 and February 2015. The data were analyzed by number, percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and using binary logistic regression analysis. Results: The mean Female Sexual Function Index score of the women was 23.8±8.0. The Female Sexual Function Index score of 59.7% of women was below the cut-off score (26.55) and was accepted indicative of sexual dysfunction. Low educational level (P < 0.01), low income (P < 0.01), and menopausal status (P < 0.0001) of the women were risk factors for sexual dysfunction. Conclusion: Prevalence of sexual dysfunction in the women was very high and they indicated no effort to seek medical care. Low educational and income level and menopausal status of the women were three factors increasing the risk of sexual dysfunction. Awareness of the society and the healthcare professionals about the issue should be increased.
