İlhan, Hasan; Güler, Ömer; Şi̇mşek, Tuncay; Alkan, Salih
In this study, boric acid-zinc (BA-Zn) nanoalloys were employed as an adsorbent for the removal of RB-5 dyestuff from aqueous solutions. The investigation focused on analyzing the impact of the initial dyestuff concentration, solution pH, temperature, and equilibrium contact time on the adsorption process of RB-5. The adsorption behavior of RB-5 onto the surface of BA-Zn-nanoalloys was explored, with a particular emphasis on the influence of initial dyestuff concentration and solution pH. The adsorption equilibrium data were subjected to analysis using Langmuir, Freundlich, DRK, and Temkin isotherm models. The results revealed a consistent alignment of RB-5 adsorption with both Langmuir and Temkin isotherms. Notably, the Langmuir adsorption capacity of BA-Zn-nanoparticles for RB-5 adsorption was determined to be 11.77mg / g at a temperature of 25°C. In the Temkin isotherm model, an adsorption constant (AT) of 1.003 was obtained. The calculated adsorption energy from the DR adsorption model was 1.09kJ / mol, implying a physical interaction-driven adsorption process. The empirical data further exhibited conformity with the pseudo-second order kinetic model, reflecting the rate-limiting step and overall kinetics of the adsorption process. Complementary to this, thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy (ΔH0), Gibbs free energy (ΔG0), and entropy (ΔS0) were evaluated to discern the energetics of BA-Zn-nanoparticle RB-5 adsorption. This study not only underscores the effectiveness of BA-Zn nanoalloys as a potential adsorbent for RB-5 dyestuff removal but also contributes to the understanding of the underlying adsorption mechanisms and energetics. The insights gained hold implications for the development of sustainable and efficient strategies for wastewater treatment and environmental protection.
- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ2Evaluation of effect of boric acid on thermoplastic starch: Morphological, mechanical, barrier, and optical properties
Yoğurtçu, Hakan; Gürler, Nedim
In this study, starch was modified with different amounts of boric acid, and the degree of substitution of the synthesized compounds at different temperatures and times was determined by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and titration methods. The degrees of substitution in both methods showed similar tendency. Optimum conditions were determined, and thermoplastic starch (TPS) and boric acid (B) films were prepared by casting method using glycerol as plasticizer. The morphological properties of the films were studied by scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS). According to the FTIR results, it was observed that the B-O and B-O-C stretching vibrations increased when the amount of boric acid increased. The tensile strength, water barrier (swelling capacity, solubility, and water vapor permeability), and optical properties of samples were investigated. The swelling capacity, solubility, and water vapor permeability of the films decreased with the addition of 0.5% boric acid to the starch, but the highest tensile strength was achieved. The tensile strength for TPSB0.5% increased compared to control group TPS. In addition, the film showed the highest transparency. Thermoplastic film containing 0.5% boric acid can be used as a packaging material due to its improved mechanical and water barrier. Highlights: The thermoplastic starch and boric acid composite were successfully produced. The presence of boric acid was confirmed by energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). The degree of substitution was determined by two different methods. Transparency increased with the addition of boric acid. Tensile strength improved with boric acid content.

- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ2Novel electrochemical sensor of nebivolol drug used for treatment of hypertension and chronic heart failure
İpek, Yeliz; Koçak, Berna
Nebivolol is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. Nebivolol is a cardiovascular drug in the group of selective beta-blockers (with selective action on the cardiovascular system). It prevents the increase in heart rate and controls the pumping power of the heart. It also has a dilating effect on blood vessels and helps to lower blood pressure with this effect. The ability to analyze nebivolol quickly, simply, economically and reliably is of high importance in two cases. The first is to adjust the drug dosage to be used by the patients, and the second is to provide fast intervention in the drug production process as a result of fast and accurate quality control in drug production and to provide quality control of produced tablets. Since, the boric acid has a good catalytic activity and enhances the peak current intensity, a boric acid‒glutardialdehyde-modified glassy carbon electrode was designed for investigation of electrochemical behavior and quantitative determination of nebivolol (NBV) in this study. Electrochemical reaction peak and the peak current intensity changes with changing NBV concentration provide detection of NBV. The role of glutardialdehyde was to immobilize the boric acid on the electrode surface with its crosslinking ability. The designed electrode was achieved by dropping boric acid‒glutardialdehyde mixture on glassy carbon electrode and drying it at room conditions. By using boric acid‒glutardialdehyde-modified glassy carbon electrode (BA‒GA2/GCE), quantitative analysis of the active drug ingredient (NBV), which is widely used in the treatment of hypertension and chronic heart failure, was carried out sensitively, selectively and at low detection limits with low cost. This electrode exhibited good repeatability and stability for detection of the oxidation peak of NBV. In addition, the working ranges and detection limits of NBV were determined in the optimum experimental conditions. SWV technique was used and according to the results obtained, LOD values for NBV in BR buffer (pH 9) and in urine samples were 1.0 × 10−7 mol L−1 and 4.12 × 10−7 mol L−1, respectively. The feasibility of the developed novel sensor was demonstrated by performing recovery studies with tablet and urine samples containing NBV. The recovery results were 93.10% and 58.16% for urine and tablet samples, respectively. Graphical abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
