Cemalgil, Selim; Onat, Onur; Aruntaş, Hüseyin Yılmaz
The presented study pertains to an attempt to propose a novel prediction model to predict the flexural and compressive strengths of concrete modulated using steel fiber (SFb) and silica fume (SF). A completed experimental investigation is adopted for the current study, and a research plan is employed. Three different superplasticizers amount (SP), different SF replacement ratios, and a constant amount of SFb were used by the weight of cement to meet the C25 target strength. A sum of 16 distinct mixtures designed by changing SP and SF ratios were developed. Furthermore, SFb was added at a fixed rate of 65 kg/m3 to all planned concrete mixes. In addition, SFb was used to create a 16-mix design. Finally, a total of 32 distinct mix designs were created. Produced, hardened specimens were exposed to two different curing conditions. This research uses the mechanical characteristics of concrete treated with SF, SP, and SFb to estimate by conducting standalone and hybridized generalized extreme learning machine (GRELM) algorithms based on available experimental data in terms of the metaheuristic aspects of this work. With continuous input data, four separate data sets were constructed. Compressive strength and flexural strength were estimated separately. With the aid of the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms, binary and ternary hybrid approaches were developed and tested on the data. Four distinct estimation models were suggested. Two quality metrics were used to evaluate the estimation performance: Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and correlation of determination (R2). The estimation results showed that the hybridized GRELM-PSO-GWO estimation model that was built for prediction was relatively successful in all sets.

- MakaleYalnız künye2017Scopus SJRQ1Mechanical and fracture characteristics of self-compacting concretes containing different percentage of plastic waste powder
Gesoglu, Mehmet; Güneyisi, Erhan; Hansu, Osman; Etli, Serkan; Alhassan, Mahammed
This study addresses the mechanical and fracture properties of self-compacting concretes (SCCs) containing plastic waste (PW) powder in varying amounts used as a cement replacement material. Partial amount of cement was replaced by PW powder at 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight so as to design six SCC mixtures with a constant slump flow of 700 ± 30 mm, total binder content of 550 kg/m3 and water-to-binder (w/b) ratio of 0.35. Mechanical characteristics of SCCs were tested for compressive and splitting tensile strengths, net flexural strength as well as modulus of elasticity at 28 day. Moreover, failure characteristics of the concrete were monitored via three-point bending test on the notched beams. The findings indicated that mechanical properties of PVC powder modified SCCs decreased while the concretes became less brittle.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2013Scopus SJRQ3Effect of Fly Ash and Silica Fume on compressive strength, sorptivity and carbonation of SCC
Turk, Kazim; Karatas, Mehmet; Gonen, Tahir
In this paper, ASTM C 618 Class F Fly Ash (FA) at 25%, 30%, 35% and 40% and Silica Fume (SF) at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% replacement of Portland Cement (PC) CEM I 42.5 in SCC was used to evaluate the effect of types and quantity of powder additions on compressive strength and permeations properties of SCC. To this end, eight types of SCC were designed, in comparison with Vibrated Traditional Concrete (VTC). The results indicated that SCC specimens with SF15 had the highest compressive strength with 73.87 MPa for 130 days. The sorptivity values of SCC specimens with FA and SF were lower than those of VTC specimens regardless of type and quantity of powder additions. On the other hand, the carbonation resistance of VTC was higher than that of SCC specimens containing both SF and FA for all accelerated carbonation periods. Consequently, it can be said that type and quantity of powder additions had an important effect on the correlation among the compressive strength and permeation properties of SCC.
