13 species of Gundelia species plants are endemic in T & uuml;rkiye and are frequently used by the public for both nutrition and medicinal objectives. In this study, three parts (flower, leaf, and stem) of three species of Gundelia ( G.dersim , G.glabra, and G.munzurensis) were biochemically investigated. DPPH and ABTS analyses for antioxidant activity were performed on methanol extracts of plant parts. As a result of both analyses in parallel, the flower part of G.munzurensis had the highest %Inhibition value (DPPH:91.85 +/- 0.78; ABTS:97.38 +/- 0) (P<0.001). In total phenolic (29.09 mg GAE/g) and total flavonoid (5.59 mg CE/g) measurements, the highest amount was found statistically quite significant (P<0.001) in the leaf part of G.munzurensis. Gallic, vanillic, ferulic, romantic, and cinnamic acids, which are phenolic acids and of the flavonoids, rutin, catechin, naringin, and naringenin, were determined in all plant parts. Vitamin D3, alpha-tocopherol, ergosterol, stigmasterol, and beta-sterol were detected in parts of all plant species. While palmitic (16:0), palmitoleic (16:1), stearic (18:0), oleic (18:1), linoleic (18:2), and linolenic (18:3) fatty acids as the main fatty acids were detected in all parts of the three Gundelia species, lauric (12:0), tridecanoic (13:0), myristic (14:0), pentadecanoic (15:0), cis-10-pentadecanoic (15:1), heptadecanoic (17:0), cis-10heptadecanoic (17:1), and eicosanoid (21:0) acids were also identified at different concentrations. Considering the biochemical properties of Gundelia species, it shows that they can be consumed as food and also used pharmacologically.

Plants from the Gundelia genus have been well appraised as both food and remedies. The members of the Gundelia genus are widely used as foods in several countries including Turkey. This study presents a comparative assessment of two poorly studied Gundelia species (G. glabra Miller and G. dersim Vitek, Yüce & Ergin). The effect of conventional (infusion, maceration, and Soxhlet extraction) and non-conventional (homogeniser and ultrasound assisted extraction) methods of extraction of bioactive secondary metabolites from the selected Gundelia species was also assessed. A total of 68 different compounds were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization and time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-TOF-MS) technique. Non-conventional extraction techniques do not guarantee higher antioxidant activity. As such, G. dersim (91.27, 138.87, 182.28, and 125.65 mg TE [Trolox equivalent]/g dried extract, for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays, respectively). The highest α-glucosidase inhibition was recorded for the extracts obtained by ultrasonication. In the multivariate analysis, the extracts from Gundelia species were separated based on their biological activities. The presented findings could be one methodological starting point for designing novel products from two Gundelia species.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ3An ethnobotanical field study; traditional foods production and medicinal utilization of gundelia l. Species in tunceli (turkey)
Çakılcıoğlu, U.
This article gives important ethnobotanical information about Gundelia L. (Kenger) in Tunceli (Eastern Anatolia Region-Turkey). Traditional use of three newly discovered species of Kenger (G. vitekii, G. dersim, G. munzuriensis) in and around Tunceli, as well as Gundelia glabra Miller, has been investigated. A field study had been carried out for a period of approximately two years (2015–2016). During this period, 27 Gundelia L. species were collected. Nine different traditional uses of Kenger plant as food were recorded. Local people use Kenger plant as egg meal with olive oil, watery food with rice, food with garlic yogurt, salad, pickle, gum, coffee, snack and animal feed. Since the plants are newly discovered, the first literature records have been made by us.
