The effects of common yarrow (Achillea millefolium Linnaeus), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume) and rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis Linnaeus) hydrosols on the some immunological and hematological parameters of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L., 1758) against to Yersinia ruckeri

In this study, the effects of some plant hydrosols (distilled plant waters) based upon some hematological parameters and Nitroblue Tetrazolium (NBT) activities in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) infected with Yersinia ruckeri were investigated. In the trial, it was utilized totally 200 common carps with 54.3±6.7 g mean live weight and 15.7±1.8 cm mean total lenght. The 10% rate of the common yarrow (Achillea millefolium Linnaeus) hydrosol; 0.5% rate of the cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume) hydrosol; and 5% rate of the rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis Linnaeus) hydrosol were applied to fish as a bath treatment. The erythrocyte (RBC), leukocyte count (WBC), hematocrit value (HCT), haemoglobin amount (Hg), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and activities of NBT in the blood samples taken from the caudal vena of the control and experimental fish groups were analyzed in the 7 th , 14 th , and 21 st days of the exposure treatment. At the end of the research, HCT, Hg, RBC, WBC, MCH and MCV values decreased in the C-2 Group (the control group contain pathogen) compared to the C-1 Group (the control group no contain pathogen), except MCHC value. The NBT activities in the C-1 Groups increased at the 14 th day, but decreased quite a few at the 21 st day. It has been consequently reached the conclusion that the bath treatments of the some plant hydrosols might be beneficial in increasing of antibacterial properties and in strengthening of defense mechanisms of common carp against Y. ruckeri pathogen.

Determination of lethal concentration (LC50) values of Cinnamomum zeylanicum hydrosol on carp fish

    Gulec, Kucukgul A.; Altinterim, B.; Aksu, O.

In this study, lethal concentration (LC50) values of cinnamon hydrosol (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) on carp (Cyprinus carpio) were investigated. In practice, experimental setup was constituted 30 fish (a total of 180 fish with 30 control fish) to be placed in three replicates. Hydrosol was added into aquariums at the doses of 0.5, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10% and determined mortality times of carp exposed to these concentrations. Percentage death of fish calculated in these concentrations. Mortality was observed at all treatments exception of dose of 0.5 %. The results indicate that the hydrosol had swimming changes, lethargy, lack of breath and leaning to the depth of the aquariums at all of the concentrations. The results of regression analysis indicated that the mortality rate (Y) is positively correlated the concentration (X) having a regression coefficient (R) close to one in each case. While the 1 h LC50 value (with 95% confidence limits) of the safe dose of C. zeylanicum hydrosol was estimated at LC50=4.39%, 2 h LC50 value=2.629%, and 12 h LC50 value= 1.027%.

DETERMINATION OF SAFETY DOSE OF EUCALYPTUS CAMALDULENSIS HYDROSOL ON MIRROR CARP (CYPRINUS CARPIO)

Altinterim, Basar; Gulec, Azime Kucukgul; Aksu, Onder

In this study, the safety dose of Eucalyptus camaldulensis hydrosol on carp (Cyprinus carpio) was investigated. Powdered eucalyptus leaves were mixed with deionized water and then distilled. The hydrosol was added into aquariums at doses of 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 ml L-1 Temperature, pH, hardness and dissolved oxygen level of the water were recorded before and after hydrosol adding. The control and test experiments were repeated three times. Data obtained from the safety dose tests of E. camaldulensis hydrosol were evaluated using the Probit Analysis Statistical Method. The 5-h LC50 value (95 % confidence limit) of the safe dose of E. camaldulensis hydrosol was estimated to be 0.93 ml L-1(0.03-0.11). It can be seen that 0.05 ml L-1 doses of eucalyptus hydrosol do not create any kind of mental disorder. In the fish exposed to 0.10 and 0.15 ml L-1 doses, some mental disorders (rolling, numbness) and, at the end of 5 h, mortality in all the trial fish have been determined. The number of dead fish was significantly exposed to E. camaldulensis hydrosol (P<0.05).
