- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ4Occurrence of the freshwater jellyfish Craspedacusta sowerbii Lankester, 1800 from Uzunçayır dam lake (Tunceli), Turkey
Kutlu, Banu
In this study, Craspedacusta sowerbii Lankester, 1880 a jellyfish species belonging to freshwater hydrozoan group, was reported for the first time in the field study carried out at Uzunçayır dam lake in Tunceli province on 15 September 2018. The plankton samples were obtained from two different regions of the lake using UNESCO WP2 plankton net with mesh size of 200 µm. C. sowerbii, one of the fresh water hydrozoans obtained from plankton samples, is rarely observed in man-made lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, and has not been observed earlier in the Uzunçayır dam lake. The C. sowerbii might have placed in the lake through some fishing activities which were conducted from 2010 to 2017 and/or through some sport equipment's (i.e. boat, jetski, were brought to the region for recreational purposes).

In the study, on the purpose of contribute to sustainable fisheries strategies. the reproductive characteristics of Capoeta trutta in Uzuncayir Dam Lake were investigated. The fish samples were caught from Uzuncayir .Dam Lake by using gill nets with different mesh sizes (36-100 mm) between January - December 2013. During research period, a total of 385 C t mita samples that were caught from Uzuncayir Dam Lake yielded 167 female (43.00%) and 218 male (57.00%) with an age composition of population varied from I to XII age groups. GSI values reached a maximum in May and rapidly declined after that month, and it can be concluded that C trutta in Uzuncayir Dam Lake deposites its sperms and eggs between May-July. Egg size varied between 0.30-1.07 mm in dimeter. The relationships between fecundity-total length and fecundity-total weight were determined respectively as r= 29.708*TL-593.36 (N= 35. r= 0.27), F = 9.6148*W+5488.3 (N= 35. r= 0.38). The fecundity of C trutta individuals changed from 1362 to 15428 according to age groups. Sexual maturity length was determined as 20.77 cm and 19.35 cm for female and males. respectively.

Immunological biomarkers reflect the effects of exposure to environmental contaminants. In this study, the suitability and sensitivity of cytokine responses, interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in gill tissues of Capoeta umbla (Heckel, 1843), collected from different regions, as early warning indices of environmental pollution and ecosystem health was evaluated. Fish and water samples were taken from ten stations in March and September 2011 and 2012. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha, IL-1 beta and IL-6 levels were determined in samples of the gill tissues by using an ELISA kit. Significant variations of TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta and IL-6 levels observed between stations and seasons. The results of this study show that seasonal variations of cytokine responses in gills of Capoeta umbla are sensitive to the contaminants present in Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey) water and are valuable biomarkers for environmental pollution and ecosystem health.

Uzuncayir Dam Lake is one of the most important water bodies in Tunceli. It is polluted by domestic wastewaters together with natural contamination and pesticides, which have had cumulatively negative effects. This study analyzes the effects of pollution by using the fish species, Capoeta umbla as a sentinel species, with a biomarker approach. The approach comprehends a general biomarker of individual fish health, the condition factor and specific biomarkers of contaminant exposure such as glutathione S-transferase (GST) and cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. The general water physico-chemical parameters were measured at each sampling sites during each fish-sampling period. Strong seasonal and locational variations were observed among selected markers. In conclusion, the multibiomarker approach used in the present study clearly revealed differences in the fish health among reference and potentially contaminated sites. The study shows that changes of biomarkers such as acetylcholinesterase, glutathione S-transferase and cytochrome P450 1A1 might be useful for the assessment of environmental contamination in the Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey). Yildirim, N. C.; Ergin, C.
Domestic wastewaters of Tunceli, are directly discharged to Munzur and Pulumur Rivers without any pre-purification process. The purpose of this study is to reveal the size of pollution caused by domestic wastewaters together with natural contamination by the drainage area of the Pulumur and Munzur Rivers and to monitor physiological changes in fish captured from Uzuncayir Dam Lake. In fish samples, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase activities and levels of glutathione and malondialdehyde were determined. Our studies showed that the antioxidant system of Capoeta umbla could be used as biomarker of exposure to aquatic pollutants in Uzuncayir Dam Lake.
