Pollen morphology of Scaligeria DC. (Apiaceae) in Turkey

Baldemir, Ayse; Alan, Senol; Sahien, Aydan Acar; Paksoy, Mehmet Yavuz; Pinar, N. Munevver

In this study, the pollen morphology of all Scaligeria DC. species distributed in Turkey were studied with light and scanningelectron microscopy for the first time. The aim is to contribute to knowledge of the variation among seven Scaligeria species, which havetaxonomic problems, based on pollen morphological characteristics by population analysis. The pollen is radially symmetrical, isopolar, and tricolporate in all examined species. Pollen grains are prolate and subprolate with the polar axes ranging from 18.4 to 37 μm andthe equatorial axes from 9.8 to 30 μm. Their polar shapes are triangular, triangular to subcircular, circular to subcircular, or triangularto subtriangular. Several types of exine ornamentations have been observed on pollen by scanning electron microscopy. Numericalanalysis showed that pore structure, the ratio of P/E, and ornamentation in the polar and equatorial views are most valuable variablesfor separating the Scaligeria species. All S. lazica taxa were grouped together and S. capillifolia and S. tripartita were the external taxadue to cluster and PCA analysis.

In addition, the medical uses of these plants were compiled from the literature. Study area was located on the East of Anatolian diagonal, in the Eastern Anatolia region. Field study was carried out over a period of approximately two years (2008-2010). During this period, 84 vascular plant taxa were collected. The plants were pressed in the field and prepared for identification. A total of 84 food plants belonging to 30 families were identified in the region. In the study being conducted, use of wild plants as food points out interest of people in Gecitli in wild plants. The fact that a large proportion of edible plants are also being used for medicinal purposes indicates that the use of wild plants has a high potential in the region. The present study shows that further ethnobotanical investigations are worthy to be carried out in Turkey, where most of knowledge on popular food plants are still to discover. In Turkey, the number of ethnobotanic studies is ever-increasing. However, traditional uses of many wild plants have not been recorded yet. In terms of food safety, the adverse effects that may arise due to the use of wild plants, without sufficient knowledge must be reported to the native people.

On the numerical solutions of some fractional ordinary differential equations by fractional Adams-Bashforth-Moulton method

    Baskonus, Haci Mehmet; Bulut, Hasan

In this paper, we apply the Fractional Adams-Bashforth-Moulton Method for obtaining the numerical solutions of some linear and nonlinear fractional ordinary differential equations. Then, we construct a table including numerical results for both fractional differential equations. Then, we draw two dimensional surfaces of numerical solutions and analytical solutions by considering the suitable values of parameters. Finally, we use the L-2 nodal norm and L-infinity maximum nodal norm to evaluate the accuracy of method used in this paper.

ON SOME NEW ANALYTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE (2+1)-DIMENSIONAL BURGERS EQUATION AND THE SPECIAL TYPE OF DODD-BULLOUGH-MIKHAILOV EQUATION

    Baskonus, Haci Mehmet; Bulut, Hasan

Some new travelling wave transform methods are very important for obtaining analytical solutions of special type of nonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs). Some of these solutions of NLPDEs may be in the different forms such as rational function solutions, trigonometric function solutions, hyperbolic function solutions, exponential function solutions and Jacobi elliptic function solutions. These forms tell us the various properties of the NLPDEs from scientifical applications to engineering. In this research, we have studied to obtain the analytical solution of the nonlinear (2+1)-dimensional Burgers equation which is named from Johannes Martinus Burgers and the nonlinear special type of the Dodd-Bullough-Mikhailov equation introduced to the literature by Roger Dodd, Robin Bullough, and Alexander Mikhailov.

Cyano-complexes and salts with tetracyanonickellateII and N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine: synthesis, IR spectra, magnetic properties, thermal analyses, and crystal structures

    Karadag, A.; Korkmaz, S. Aslan; Andaç, O.; Yerli, Y.; Topcu, Y.

Four cyano complexes, [Ni(N-bishydeten)Ni(CN)(4)](n) (c1), [Cu(N-bishydeten)(2)][Ni(CN)(4)] (c2), [Zn-2(N-bishydeten)(2)Ni(CN)(4)](n) (c3), and [Cd(N-bishydeten)(2)][Ni(CN)(4)] (c4), have been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, elemental, and thermal analyses. The structures of c2 and c4 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies; both structures contain isolated cations and anions. The c2 consists of [Cu(N-bishydeten)(2)](2+) with octahedrally coordinated Cu-II and diamagnetic [Ni(CN)(4)](2-), but c4 consists of [Cd(N-bishydeten)(2)](2+), in which Cd-II is eight coordinate with two tetradentate N-bishydeten and diamagnetic [Ni(CN)(4)](2-). The value of the shape measure S (degrees) indicates that the coordination geometry around Cd-II lies along D-2d [dodecahedron; (dd)], C-2v [bicapped trigonal prism; (btp)], and D-4d [square antiprism; (sap)] but close to D-2d and D-4d. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of c1 and c2 show the presence of little antiferromagnetic interaction below 20 K. Thermal analyses reveal that first neutral N-bishydeten and then cyano ligands were liberated from the complexes.

Ilhak, Osman Irfan; Dikici, Abdullah; Can, Ozlem Pelin; Seker, Pinar; Öksüztepe, Gulsum; Çalicioglu, Mehmet

The objective of the present study was to obtain data about cooking time and temperature of kiymali pide in the restaurants and to investigate thermal inactivation of E. coli O157:H7 during experimental kiymali pide making. A field study was conducted in randomly selected 23 of 87 pide restaurants. Processing parameters including oven temperature, cooking period and post-cooking temperature were determined. Kiymali pide samples were prepared using ground beef filling experimentally inoculated with E. coli O157:H7 (7.6 log(10) CFU/g). Pide samples were cooked at a conventional oven at 180 degrees C for 180, 240, 270, 300 and 330 s. Results of the current study suggest that cooking kiymali pide at 180 degrees C for at least 330 s (5.5 min) may provide sufficient food safety assurance (>= 6 log(10) CFU/g) for E. coli O157:H7. Gul, Muhammet; Celik, Erkan; Aydin, Nezir; Gumus, Alev Taskin; Guneri, Ali Fuat

Multi criteria decision making (MCDM) is one of the research areas of operations research and management science which has widely studied by researchers and practitioners. It finds a compromise solution for evaluating and ranking alternatives from the best to the worst under conflicting criteria with respect to decision maker(s) preferences. In a compromise approach, the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR; that means multi-criteria optimization and compromise solution) continues to be applied satisfactorily across different application areas. This paper conducts a state-of-the-art literature review to categorize, analyze and interpret the current research on VIKOR applications. It also discusses the extensions of VIKOR applied in fuzzy environments. A total of 343 papers are classified into 13 different application areas and a number of sub-application areas. Furthermore, all papers are also categorized with respect to publication year, published journal, country of origin, application type (real case study vs empirical study), and version of fuzzy sets used. This comprehensive literature review provides an insight for researchers and practitioners on VIKOR applications in terms of showing current state and potential areas for future attempts to be focused in the future.
