USING OBSTACLE PERFORATION, RECONFIGURATION, AND INCLINATION TECHNIQUES TO ENHANCE THE DYNAMIC AND THERMAL STRUCTURE OF A TOP-ENTRY CHANNEL

Mahdi, Khaled; Bekrentchir, Khalida; Hussein, Ahmed Kadhim; Akgule, Ali; Shanak, Hussein; Asad, Jihad; Akkurt, Nevzat; Menni, Younes

This research is to incorporate three efficient ways that will increase the perfor-mance of baffled heat exchangers. The 1st technique is represented by baffle per-forating to create pores through which secondary streams pass in order to reduce main stream pressure on the flow areas. A 2nd technique represented in redesign-ing the baffle structure by replacing its square edge with the arched edge in or-der to increase the X-velocity to facilitate the flow towards the outlet and reduce the Y-velocity to reduce the values of fluid friction with the solid areas. Finally, a 3rd way was demonstrated by using the inclined baffle model. Reinforcement of the baffle structure allowed for enhanced vortices, increased thermal gradients, and thus a reinforced thermodynamic structure over the entire heat exchanger

Continuous Flow–Assisted Polyol Synthesis of Citric Acid Functionalized Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

Akkurt, Nevzat; Altan, Cem Levent; Sarac, Mehmet Fahri

The synthesis of nanoparticles by the continuous flow process is of great interest since it allows extensive control over reaction conditions with high precision and provides enhanced production capacity with excellent heat and mass transfer rates at high pressures and temperatures. In this study, iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized via continuous flow process in combined micro- and milli-sized reactors in the presence of citric acid at variable functional ratios from 1:1 to 1:5. The results illustrated the possibility of continuous production of superparamagnetic magnetite and/or maghemite nanoparticles at the size range of 4.3 to 4.6 nm that exhibit remarkable colloidal stability in triethylene glycol (TEG) and saturation magnetizations up to 52 emu/g. Additionally, the nucleation and growth stages of nanoparticles were found to be unaffected by the presence of citric acid (CA) while an increase in the functional ratio was shown to affect the magnetic properties due to the presence of a non-magnetic layer around the particles. Furthermore, the viability of human lung adenocarcinoma (A549) cell lines was investigated with several concentrations of magnetic nanoparticles, and the biocompatibility of nanoparticles was illustrated at certain particle loadings after 48 h expressing the potential use in biomedical applications.

Compressible unsteady steam flow and heat transport analysis: a numerical investigation

Hussain, Azad; Arsaln, Muhammad; Rehman, Aysha; Alharbi, Fahad M.; Akkurt, Nevzat; Eldin, Sayed M.; Althobaiti, Saad

The unsteady compressible steam laminar flow associated with heat transfer in fluids in a squared cylinder is examined in this work. The current challenge was created utilizing the CFD approach. The laminar flow is chosen with a low Mach number. With the geometric wall, the flow has a no-slip condition. The pressure on the flow is kept at 0 pas, and the temperature in the flow regime is 305.13. A 0.5 m/s velocity is used to start the flow. With the use of graphics, the effects of time on velocity and pressure distributions are discussed. Different outcomes are also mentioned, such as drag coefficients, lift coefficients, and heat distributions. The velocity drops from 2.5 to 1.6 m/s at t = 7 s in the absence of anybody's force and temperature 305.13 K. Pressure increases from 0.00098 to 0.001 Pas in the flow interval of 10 s. Surface temperature increases from 360 to 375 K in time intervals of 10 s keeping pressure constant. And contour temperature increases from 371.56 to 374.2 K in time intervals of 10 s keeping the pressure constant. This information provides us with caution about the emission of steam from the chimneys of furnaces. It implies that when steam flows from a cylindrical geometry like chimneys of furnaces it heats the upper inner and outer parts which may destroy the material. So for safety, that emission should be taken for a short interval of time otherwise it will result in a havoc process. The lift coefficient remains constant and the drag coefficient increases from 0.0005 to 0.065. Under that condition, fluid has to face more resistance. To overcome that difficulty fluid should be provided with high velocity to continue it for a long time. The technique used to solve modeled problems is the Backward Difference Formula.

Irreversibility analysis of Ellis hybrid nanofluid with surface catalyzed reaction and multiple slip effects on a horizontal porous stretching cylinder

Naveed Khan, Muhammad; Akkurt, Nevzat; Ameer Ahammad, N.; Ahmad, Shafiq; Amari, Abdelfattah; Eldin, Sayed M; Ali Pasha, Amjad

This paper presents the theoretical and computation irreversibility investigation of the Ellis hybrid nanofluid flow (CuO-Al2O3 nanoparticles) model using both homogeneous and heterogeneous responses toward the horizontal porous stretching cylinder. The Joule heating, thermal radiation, and heat generation/absorption are all factors that affect thermal energy transport, all of which are explored. On the surface of the cylinder, the slip boundary conditions are enforced. Keeping in mind that the nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) are converted into nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs), these ODEs are constructed from the mathematical flow model with the aid of proper transformations. With the help of the bvp4c MATLAB built-in method, the nonlinear system equations are tacked numerically. Graphical results are used to discuss the numerical aspects of different parameters. By increasing the curvature parameter, entropy generation increases while fluid velocity decreases. Elasticity and magnetic fields thin boundary layers. Realistically, as liquid porosity increases, momentum boundary layer diminishes.

Stability Analysis of Buoyancy Magneto Flow of Hybrid Nanofluid through a Stretchable/Shrinkable Vertical Sheet Induced by a Micropolar Fluid Subject to Nonlinear Heat Sink/Source

Khan, Umair; Zaib, Aurang; Ishak, Anuar; Alotaibi, Abeer M.; Eldin, Sayed M.; Akkurt, Nevzat; Waini, Iskandar; Madhukesh, Javali Kotresh

The utilization of hybrid nanofluids (HNs) to boost heat transfer is a promising area of study, and thus, numerous scientists, researchers, and academics have voiced their admiration and interest in this area. One of the main functions of nanofluids is their dynamic role in cooling small electrical devices such as microchips and associated gadgets. The major goal of this study is to perform an analysis of the buoyancy flow of a shrinking/stretching sheet, whilst considering the fascinating and practical uses of hybrid nanofluids. The influence of a nonlinear heat source/sink induced by a micropolar fluid is also inspected. Water-based alumina and copper nanoparticles are utilized to calculate the fine points of the fluid flow and the features of heat transfer. The governing equations are framed with acceptable assumptions and the required similarity transformations are used to turn the set of partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The bvp4c technique is used to solve the simplified equations. Dual solutions are presented for certain values of stretching/shrinking parameters as well as the mixed convective parameter. In addition, the shear stress coefficient in the first-branch solution (FBS) escalates and decelerates for the second-branch solution (SBS) with the superior impact of the magnetic parameter, the mass transpiration parameter, and the solid nanoparticles volume fraction, while the contrary behavior is seen in both (FB and SB) solutions for the larger values of the material parameter.

Significance of Free Convection Flow over an Oscillating Inclined Plate Induced by Nanofluid with Porous Medium: The Case of the Prabhakar Fractional Approach

Raza, Ali; Khan, Umair; Eldin, Sayed M.; Alotaibi, Abeer M.; Elattar, Samia; Prasannakumara, Ballajja C.; Akkurt, Nevzat; Abed, Ahmed M.

Given the importance and use of electrically conducted nanofluids, this work aims to examine an engine-oil-based nanofluid including various nanoparticles. In the current study, a fractional model for inspecting the thermal aspect of a Brinkman-type nanofluid, composed of (molybdenum disulfide (MOS2) and graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles flows on an oscillating infinite inclined plate, which characterizes an asymmetrical fluid flow, heat, and mass transfer. Furthermore, the Newtonian heating effect, magnetic field, and slip boundary conditions were taken into account. The objectives for implementing the Prabhakar-like fractional model are justified because this fractional algorithm has contemporary definitions with no singularity restrictions. Furthermore, the guided fractional model was solved using the Laplace transform and several inverse methods. The obtained symmetrical solutions have been visually analyzed to investigate the physics of several relevant flow parameters on the governed equations. Some exceptional cases for the momentum field are compiled to see the physical analysis of the flowing fluid symmetry. The results show that the thermal enhancement can be progressively improved with the interaction of the molybdenum disulfide-engine oil-based nanofluid suspension, rather than with the graphene oxide mixed nanoparticle fluid. Furthermore, the temperature and momentum profiles enhance due to the factional parameters for molybdenum disulfide and the graphene oxide-engine oil-based nanofluid suspension. This study’s graphical and numerical comparison with the existing literature has shown a very close resemblance with the present work, which provides confidence that the unavailable results are accurate. The results show that an increase improved the heat transmission in the solid nanoparticle volume fractions. In addition, the increment in the mass and heat transfer was analyzed in the numerical evaluation, while the shear stress was enhanced with the enhancement in the Prabhakar fractional parameter α.

Numerical evaluation of convective heat transfer properties of two-dimensional rotating PCM melt in the unilaterally heated rectangular container

Liu, Dinghai; Xie, Kai; Zhang, Hui; Qiang, Yujie; Yang, Di; Wang, Zhaoxiao; Zhu, Lidong; Akkurt, Nevzat; Du, Yanping; Shen, Meng

This paper carried out numerical investigations on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a phase change with two-dimensional rotation of the three-dimensional paraffin (RT -27)-filled rectangular encapsulated container (PCM-REC) in space. A three-dimensional transient numerical heat transfer model was established and the enthalpy method was used to simulate the solid-liquid phase transition process and the flow evolution at the PCM interface. In this paper, the solid-liquid interface distribution, temperature distribution and melting time of PCM in PCM-REC heated at a constant temperature on one side were compared when rotated at different angles (0°, arctan (0.4), 2arctan (0.4) and 90°) along the heating direction and vertical heating direction. Results demonstrated that the peak value of maximum natural convection velocity increased from 0.0072 m/s to 0.0184 m/s with increasing radial height when PCM-REC was rotated in vertical heating direction. When PCM-REC was rotated in two dimensions by the same angle, the melting time was fastest when γ was an obtuse angle, and with the increase of the obtuse angle, the melting time shortened from 17 min to 6 min; when γ was an acute angle, the melting time was slowest, and with the decrease of the acute angle, the melting time lengthened from 49 min to 288 min.

Investigation of the effect of aspect ratio in an enclosure filled with phase change materials and its effect on thermal management of lithium-ion batteries: Applicable for storing solar energy

    Akkurt, Nevzat

The numerical and transient behavior of a battery pack (BA-PK) consisting of three battery cells positioned within an air duct is investigated in this work. The BA-PK was connected to a solar system. The inside of the BA-PK is filled with phase change material. The air within the duct moved at a speed of 0.001–0.003 m/s around the BA-PK. The investigation was carried out by altering the dimensions of the BA-PK using COMSOL software. The finite element approach is used to solve the equations. The results of this research indicated that the battery temperature (Tbatt) drops gradually until the surrounding area is filled with molten PCM, but that once the PCM around the battery is entirely frozen, the Tbatt drops abruptly. The use of a larger BA-PK increases the temperature of the exhaust air out of the duct, but reduces the percentage of solid PCM. The Tbatt, as well as the maximum Tbatt and average TPCM within the compartment, are reduced by using a smaller BA-PK. In addition to increasing the quantity of solid PCM, increasing the speed lowers the temperatures of the batteries and PCM, as well as the temperature of the exhaust air.

Floating solar stills and floating solar-driven membranes: Recent advances and overview of designs, performance and modern combinations

Rashid, Farhan Lafta; Al-Obaidi, Mudhar A.; Hussein, Ahmed Kadhim; Akkurt, Nevzat; Ali, Bagh; Younis, Obai

For life to exist on earth, there must be water. Freshwater resources are in short supply due to industrialization and the world's rapid population expansion. Growing water shortage argues that using passive solar stills is the best and most practical solution in the world's arid and semi-arid regions. For applications in distant or rural coastal areas, floating solar stills are an appropriate technique. To provide accessibility to a wider population, the gadget should be constructed using inexpensive materials that are easily accessible nearby. However, the low-cost materials typically do not have the optimum physical characteristics, which reduces the overall performance of solar stills. This study intends to deliver a comprehensive review that summarizes recent research developments and gives a rundown of experimental, numerical, and experimental and numerical studies on floating solar stills and floating solar-driven membranes. This article also looks at a few more setups, researched parameters, and result-finding issues. Research on floating solar is currently ongoing, and recommendations for further research projects have been made in light of the study's findings.

Keller box simulation of magnetic pseudoplastic nano-polymer coating flow over a circular cylinder with entropy optimisation

Al-Mdallal, Qasem; Prasad, V. Ramachandra; Basha, H. Thameem; Sarris, Ioannis; Akkurt, Nevzat

In this study, a Keller box calculation of magnetic nanopolymer coating flow over a circular cylinder in the presence of nonlinear convection is performed. A two-phase nanofluid model (Buongiorno model) is used to model the equations for nanofluid flow and heat and mass transfer. The problem at hand is first formulated in the dimensional form of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) and then transformed into the dimensionless PDEs form by manipulating non-similar variables. The Keller box approach (implicit finite differences) is used for the calculations of the transformed PDEs. The characteristics of critical thermophysical physical parameters on the flow field, viz thermal convection, Brownian motion, Weissenberg number, thermophoresis, magnetic field, heat source/sink, Biot number, buoyancy ration parameter, Eckert number, and mixed convection, are graphically manifested. In addition, the flow control parameters estimate the sheath friction, heat transfer rate, and mass transfer rate in the flow coordinate. A significant increase in the velocity of the Williamson nanofluid is accompanied by an increase in the Biot number, magnetic field, and mixed convection. The isotherms show a higher fluid temperature near the wall in the absence of convection. The Weissenberg number, Biot number, and thermophoresis significantly increase the temperature of the Williamson nanofluid. The density of the streamlines is lowered with a larger buoyancy ratio parameter. The total entropy generation of the Williamson nanofluid is improved by increasing the Brinkman number and the Weissenberg number.

Inverted Solar Stills: A Comprehensive Review of Designs, Mathematical Models, Performance, and Modern Combinations

Hussein, Ahmed Kadhim; Rashid, Farhan Lafta; Abed, Azher M.; Al-Khaleel, Mohammad; Togun, Hussein; Ali, Bagh; Akkurt, Nevzat; Malekshah, Emad Hasani; Biswal, Uddhaba; Al-Obaidi, Mudhar A.

Fresh water is scarce, making it a worldwide issue. In order to address global freshwater demand, a filtration technique is needed. Solar distillation (SD) that purifies brackish and sub-terranean water has been proven to be a promising green technology. It produces distilled water which can be used as potable water for drinking and other purposes. The designs, operations, and configurations of several inverted solar stills are thoroughly examined in this article. All techniques for solar water distillation to separate saltwater from freshwater have the same fundamental idea. It has been demonstrated that for a specified mass of water in the top basin, the daily output of an inverted absorber double-basin solar still (IASS) grows with increasing water depth in the bottom basin. Nevertheless, as the water depth in the bottom basin rises from 1 cm to 5 cm, the output of an inverted absorber double-basin solar system falls by about 27%. At water depths of 4, 6, and 8 cm, the daily yields from inverted absorber solar stills paired with a refrigeration cycle (RIASS) were 6.4, 10.08, and 9.5 L/day, respectively. The results also showed a substantial rise in water temperature in the inverted absorber solar still as a result of lower bottom heat loss and larger absorptivity. In this study, the emphasis on energy, efficiency, and environmental concerns remains with the modified multi-wick basin-type inverted absorber solar panel. The performance of the inverted trickling solar still was assessed with a 60 ppm average salinity under various sun radiation, feed water flow rate, and existence conditions for natural convection. It was found that the still could produce 2.55 L/day m2 of fresh water, a 15% increase. Brackish water with a salinity of 6000 ppm was used to test the still in November at tilt angles of 47◦ and 32◦ . Condensate production at the specified angles was 2.8 and 2 L/d, respectively. A total output of 6.907, 5.681, and 4.650 kg/m2 /day was also generated using the modified multi-wick basin-type inverted absorber solar still (MMWBIASS) at water depths of 1, 2, and 3 cm, respectively. With black cotton wicks, the MMWBIASS had a total thermal efficiency of 34.04%, 28.17%, and 23.61%.

Cooling of non-sloped, positively sloped, and negatively sloped arrangements of Li-ion batteries with a phase change material connected to a solar system

Akkurt, Nevzat; Aghakhani, S.; Mahmoud, Mustafa Z.; Abdelrahman, Anas

Three cylindrical Li-ion batteries are simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics in this study. A circular PCM layer is used to cover the batteries. A battery pack connected to a solar system is tested to store energy in a residential building. The PCM is 100% melted at the beginning, and the frozen PCM volume fraction (PVOF) is studied over time. In addition, the temperatures of individual batteries in three different configurations are analyzed at air velocities 1 and 3 mm/s. The three battery configurations included a positive slope, a negative slope, and no slope. The finite element method (FEM) is utilized to derive algebraic equations. The test results are given to the network as training data, and different neural network architectures are tested in terms of the number of layers and the number of neurons in each layer, and finally a structure that has a minimum mean squared error as a network. Battery behavior predictor is selected. Finally, this model is given to the optimization algorithm as an optimization function to investigate the point at which the maximum voltage is obtained. The results showed that the positively sloped battery configuration decreased the temperatures of the batteries, while the non-sloped configuration increased the temperatures. In addition, the positively sloped configuration resulted in more frozen PCM than non-sloped and negatively sloped configurations at a given time. The minimum frozen PCM was observed in the non-sloped configuration. A change in the air velocity from 1 to 3 mm/s increased the frozen PCM and improved the cooling of the batteries.

Experimental study on heat transfer properties of gravity heat pipes in single/hybrid nanofluids and inclination angles

Wang, Zhaoxiao; Zhang, Hui; Yin, Lei; Yang, Di; Yang, Gang; Akkurt, Nevzat; Liu, Dinghai; Zhu, Lidong; Qiang, Yujie; Yu, Fan

In order to meet the working requirements of heat pipes under complex working conditions and high heat flux density, and propose corresponding thermal management solutions. In this paper, the single and hybrid nanofluids (TiO2-H2O, Al2O3-H2O, Al2O3+TiO2-H2O) with mass fraction of 5% under the gradient of gravity heat pipe at 50°, 60°, 70°, 80°, 90° are studied. The changes in thermal resistance, thermal efficiency and equivalent heat transfer coefficient of water were compared with deionized water. The results are as follows: The overall efficiency of gravity heat pipe ranges from 70% to 85%. Compared with deionized water, the nanofluid can effectively improve the heat transfer. At different inclination angles, the hybrid nanofluid with the same mass fraction shows the reverse trend compared with the single nanofluid by decreasing the thermal resistance of the heat pipe and increasing the heat transfer efficiency. At an inclination angle of 70°, the heat transfer efficiency of the nanofluid Al2O3+TiO2-H2O is 6.8% weaker compared to TiO2-H2O and 4.5% weaker compared to Al2O3-H2O. At a tilt angle of 60°, the heat transfer capacity of Al2O3+TiO2-H2O nanofluid increases by 7.3% compared to TiO2-H2O and by 5.6% compared to Al2O3-H2O.

Khan, Dolat; Asogwa, Kanayo Kenneth; Akkurt, Nevzat; Kumam, Poom; Watthayu, Wiboonsak; Sitthithakerngkiet, Kanokwan

Electro-osmotic flow via a microchannel has numerous uses in the contemporary world, including in the biochemical and pharmaceutical industries. This research explores the electroosmotic flow of Casson-type nanofluid with Sodium Alginate nanoparticles through a vertically tilted microchannel. In addition, the transverse magnetic field is also considered. In this flowing fluid, the influence of heat and mass transmission is also explored. The aforementioned physical process is represented by partial differential equations. Utilizing suitable dimensionless variables for nondimensionalized. Furthermore, the non—dimensional classical system is fractionalized with the use of generalized Fourier and Fick's law. Generalizations are made using the Caputo derivative's description. The analytical solution of the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles is obtained by combining the methods of Laplace and Fourier. Interestingly, the influence of several physical characteristics such as the fractional parameter, Casson fluid parameter, the thermal and mass Grashof numbers, and the zeta potential parameter is displayed. Moreover, the results show that the volume fractional of nanoparticles enhances the rate of heat transfer up to 39.90%, Skin friction up to 38.05%, and Sherwood number up to 11.11%. Also, the angle of inclination enhances the fluid velocity.

Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Forced Convection in a Horizontal Tube Partially Filled with a Porous Medium under Local Thermal Equilibrium Conditions

Amoli, Behzad Siavash; Ajarostaghi, Seyed Soheil Mousavi; Saffar-Avval, Majid; Abardeh, Reza Hosseini; Akkurt, Nevzat

The objective of the present work is to analyze experimentally and numerically the laminar forced convection flow in a horizontal pipe partially filled with a porous medium under constant heat flux and to study the influence of the eccentricity of the porous medium on the results. In a numerical analysis, the governing equations are solved in three dimensions. To simplify the grid generation and the satisfaction of the boundary conditions, conformal mapping is applied to convert the cross-section of the tube in the fluid domain (space between two eccentric circles) into a rectangle, and the equations are solved in a computational domain in this domain. The Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer model is applied to simulate the hydrodynamic behavior of the flow in the porous region. Thermal equilibrium between solid and fluid is assumed for the energy equation. A FORTRAN program was developed to solve the equations using the finite volume method and the SIMPLE algorithm. Velocity profile, pressure drop and average Nusselt number are studied in a wide range of Darcy numbers, thickness of porous mediums and eccentricities. The results show that the eccentricity of the porous material reduces the heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop simultaneously; of course, the reduction in the heat transfer coefficient is less noticeable when the thickness of the porous medium is smaller. For example, at RP = 0.5, when the eccentricity of the porous medium increases up to E = 0.4, the average Nusselt number decreases by 66%, and this reduction for a smaller porous thickness decreases to 11%. The maximum pressure drop reduction for Da = 10−5 and E = 0.4 is 25%.

Experimental study on synergistic enhancement of thermal performance of a closed two-phase thermosyphon by a TiO2nanofluid doped with Al2O3

Xu, Qian; Yang, Gang; Jia, Shuhui; Wang, Zhaoxiao; Akkurt, Nevzat; Zhang, Hui; Zhou, Qiang; Shen, Meng; Yang, Di; Zhu, Lidong

The heat transfer performance of two-phase closed thermosyphon solar collectors (TPCTs) can be improved by adding nanoparticles to the conventional working fluid, but it is necessary to ensure good rheological properties while improving the heat transfer performance. Therefore, spherical (TiO2) nanoparticles with good rheological properties and rod-shaped (Al2O3) nanoparticles with high thermal conductivity were mixed and applied to the TPCT. First, the effects of individual factors such as the concentration of nanoparticles and the operating parameters on the thermal performance of the TPCT were investigated and a regression analysis was performed. Then, the joint effect of inclination angle and filling ratio on the thermal performance of TPCT was further investigated by orthogonal experiment. The results show that doping TiO2 with Al2O3 can further improve the thermal performance of TPCT. For the volume concentration of 0.6% of nanoparticles, filling ratio of 50% and inclination angle of 80°, the best heat transfer performance of TPCT was achieved. Compared with the deionized water (DW), the thermal resistance of the single (TiO2-H2O) and hybrid (Al2O3+TiO2-H2O) nanofluid TPCT is reduced by 10.7% and 13.4%, the thermal efficiency is increased by 11.0% and 13.7%, and the equivalent heat transfer coefficient is increased by 16.2% and 18.7%, respectively.

Waini, Iskandar; Khan, Umair; Zaib, Aurang; Ishak, Anuar; Pop, Ioan; Akkurt, Nevzat

The use of hybrid nanoparticles to increase heat transfer is a favorable area of research, and therefore, numerous scientists, researchers, and scholars have expressed their appreciation for and interest in this field. Determining the dynamic role of nanofluids in the cooling of microscopic electronic gadgets, such as microchips and related devices, is also one of the fundamental tasks. With such interesting and useful applications of hybrid nanofluids in mind, the main objective is to deal with the analysis of the unsteady flow towards a shrinking sheet in a water-based hybrid ferrite nanoparticle in porous media, with heat sink/source effects. Moreover, the impact of these parameters on heat and mass transfers is also reported. Numerical results are obtained using MATLAB software. Non-unique solutions are determined for a certain shrinking strength, in addition to the unsteadiness parameter. The mass transfer and friction factor increase for the first solution due to the hybrid nanoparticles, but the heat transfer rate shows the opposite effect.

The influence of battery distance on a hybrid air-cooled cylindrical lithium-ion battery phase change material thermal management system for storing solar energy

Akkurt, Nevzat; Aghakhani, S.; Mahmoud, Mustafa Z.; Tag El Din, ElSayed M.

The cooling of a lithium-ion battery pack made up of three cylindrical batteries in a channel is studied using the finite element technique in this research. The phase change material (PCM) is surrounded by a laminar flow of air. The solid PCM fraction values and the average temperature of each battery and battery pack at various periods were studied by varying the distance between the batteries from 7 to 10 mm and adjusting the speed from 0.1 to 0.3 cm/s. When compared to other batteries surrounding this battery, the left battery had the lowest temperature and the maximum quantity of solid PCM was generated at various periods, according to the findings of this article. At 0.1 cm/s, the distance 7 mm is the greatest and the distance 8 mm is the lowest in the left battery, the distance 10 mm is the largest in the center battery, the distance 8 mm is the lowest in the right battery, and the distance 8 mm generates the least amount of solid PCM in the battery pack. The second and third batteries, as well as the battery pack, have the lowest average temperature across various distances of the batteries due to a distance of 10 mm between them. Increasing the speed from 0.1 to 0.3 cm/s causes the temperature to decrease in a time-dependent manner.

In this research, turbulent flow numerical models in a wavy channel were investigated. The studied channel is simulated in two dimensions and symmetrically in the range of Reynolds numbers from Re=10,000 to 80,000. The significant cause of this research is to investigate and determine the appropriate method for estimating the behavior of turbulent flow in a wavy channel. In this research, the behavior of turbulent flow in a wavy channel will be simulated in 7 different ways, which are k-ω SST, k-ϵ RN, k-ϵ Realizable, k−ϵ Standard, k-ω Standard, Reynolds stress and Spalart-Allmaras. The findings of this research show that the impacts of the presence of flow viscosity (friction) and the presence of adverse pressure gradients are factors that strongly affect the velocity profiles in the upstream areas of the corrugated section. Among the studied models, due to better compatibility and guessing of flow and hydrodynamic properties, k-ω SST methods and Reynolds and Spalart-Allmaras stress are introduced as the best methods for such geometries. On the other hand, increasing the accuracy of other turbulence methods is related to the flow physics and geometric structure of each problem. In this research, the hydrodynamic parameters of the flow such as pressure drop, skin friction factor, and dynamic pressure drop coefficient and vortex contours, and pressure are plotted and described.

The fundamental purpose of this research is to elaborate on slip boundary conditions and the flow of three-dimensional, stable, incompressible, rotating movements of nanoparticles lying across a stretchable sheet. The mathematical model for fluid flow is created using the assumptions stated above. The partial differentials are produced after utilizing boundary layer estimates. The partial differential governing equations are reduced into three coupled ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. After, applying transformations the system is solved numerically. Numerical results are approved with the help of the MATLAB bvp4c algorithm. The analysis shows that velocity and temperature are strongly dependent on essential parameters like stretching ratio, velocity slip, rotation, thermal slip parameter, and Prandtl number. Numerical values of distinct parameters on heat flux and skin friction factors are shown in a tabulated form. Partial velocity and thermal slip are applied to the temperature surface. The comparison among the nano-sized particles copper oxide and silver with water base nanofluid affecting velocity and temperature fields are used for analysis. Moreover, the Graphical depiction designates that the velocity and temperature spreading of the thermal slip parameter is increasing. It is observed that Ag-water is the best heat carrier as compared to CuO-water nanofluid.
