The present study shows that further ethnobotanical investigations are worthy to be carried out in Turkey, where most of knowledge on popular food plants are still to discover. In Turkey, the number of ethnobotanic studies is ever-increasing. However, traditional uses of many wild plants have not been recorded yet. In terms of food safety, the adverse effects that may arise due to the use of wild plants without sufficient knowledge must be reported to the native people.

Investigations on the growth kinetics of hantzschia amphioxys homa lagoon by izmir bay (Aegean Sea)

    Kutlu, Banu; Buyukisik, Baha

zschia amphiarys were investigated under continuous-light period and batch culture conditions. The optimum temperature and light intensities were found as 18 degrees C and 52 mu mol/m(2)s (saturasyon light), respectively. mu(max) and K-s values estimated for each nutrient were obtained as follows: ammonia for 1.528 day(-1) 2.959 mu g-at- NH4+-N/L, nitrate 1.22 day(-1), 7.01 mu g-at NO3- -N/L, phosphate 1.767 and 1.172 day(-1) 5.07 and 0.460 mu g-at PO4-(3)-P/L, silicate 1.141 day(-1) and 0,499 mu g-at Si/L. Carrying capacity values estimated for each nutrients were obtained as follows: nitrate 113,7 mu g chl a/L, 190.11 phosphate 113.7 mu g chl a/L, 1.798. Nitrogen limiting nutrients was found as in this study.
