- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3First Recording of Melanopsis costata (Olivier, 1804) in Anamur (Dragon) Stream and Göksu River, Mersin, Türkiye and Measurement of Some Biometric Parameters
Kutluyer Kocabaş, Filiz; Kocabaş, Mehmet
In this study, some biometric characteristics of the freshwater snail Melanopsis costata (Olivier, 1804) were determined in the Anamur (Dragon) Stream and Göksu River (Mersin, Turkey). Weight (A) (g), shell width (KG) (mm), shell height (KY) (mm), aperture length (AU), and width (AG) (mm) measurements were made on the samples taken from different stations. Morphological relationships were determined by multivariate statistical evaluation. The highest values in terms of shell length and weight were evaluated as 24.46 mm and 1.496 g in Karakaya Village (Göksu River). The data were evaluated with Principal Component Analysis (PCA), a flexible statistical method used to understand the relationships between variables and explain a large part of the data set. Samples taken from different stations showed a strong relationship between aperture width and spir height. The species is not mentioned as a new record in the study area.

The main purpose of this study was to obtain a clone free from viruses and virus-like diseases to rapidly reproduce these clones. Meristems were extracted and cultured for the production of the base material for the Kalecik Karası number 4 and 23-2 clones. After the explants formed shoots, the effects of 12 dissimilar auxin (IBA) and cytokine (2İP and BAP) concentrations on the growth of the root and plant were investigated. In the meristem stage clones showed a 60 % and 80 % viability rate. In the rooting stage, it was determined that shoot formation and leaf numbers were higher in the Kalecik Karası clone number 23-2 and the 1.0 mg. L-1 IBA+0.5 mg. L-1 BAP/2 IP concentration showed the highest shoot formation and leaf number value. The highest callus levels were determined as 0.43 cm for clone number 4 and 0.72 cm for clone number 23-2. M S (Murashige & Skoog) with 2mg. L-1 IBA showed the highest rooting value. The longest root values were 3.47 cm with 1mg. L-1 IBA for clone number 4, and 3.90 cm with 0.5mg L-1 IBA for clone number 23-2.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2019Scopus SJRQ3Antifungal and antibacterial effect of dodder (Cuscuta campestris) used for hepatitis treatment of mothers and newborn infants in Province Mardin in Turkey; [Türkiye'de Mardin ilindeki annelerin ve yenidoğan bebeklerin sarılık tedavisinde kullanılan küsküt'ün (Cuscuta campestris) antifungal ve antibakteriyel etkileri]

Dodder is a plant used for the hepatitis treatment in new born infants in and around Mardin. The aim of this research to determine the antifungal and antibacterial effects of traditionally used dooder is known as a regional folk remedy. Thus and so, the efficacy of the drug has been demonstrated by the inclusion of natural therapeutic antimicrobial agents such as anti-inflammatory and wound healing, including infectious diseases. The antimicrobial effects of these plant was analyzed against bacteria, yeast and dermatopyta fungi by the agar disc diffusion method. The nominal concentration of the plant to prevent from the development of microorganisms was detected with the broth microdulitions method. It was determined that it had sensitive and moderately sensitive antimicrobial effect against all of microrganisms (13-19.66 mm/inhibition zone), growth of tested microrganisms were inhibited at 50-6.25 µL.It is though that this natural herbal resource can light the way for treatment of several diseases and direct the next studies because of having the potential for being used as a new antimicrobial agent.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2018Scopus SJRQ4Effect of glyphosate on some protective systems in Zea mays L; [Glifosatın mısır (Zea mays L.)’da bazı koruyucu sistemlere etkisi]
Beker Akbulut, Gulcin; Yigit, Emel; Bayram, Dilek
Glyphosate is an herbicide that is applied after non-selective germination and affects plant growth. In this study, glyphosate was applied to Zea mays L. after germination, at a concentration range from 0.017 to 0.145 M in a growth chamber. The effects of this herbicide on some antioxidant enzymes, lipid peroxidation, total chlorophyll and total carbohydrate content were investigated on days 1, 5 and 10 following the application. Results showed that peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) were increased in the groups treated with glyphosate on days 5 and 10, but the activities of reduced glutathione (GSH) and glutathione reductase (GR) were decreased on day 10. Malondialdehyde (MDA) content indicating lipid peroxidation was increased on days 1, 5 and 10. Changes in total chlorophyll and total carbohydrate contents were found to be time-dependent. These increases and decreases in the antioxidant activities, MDA content, total chlorophyll and total carbohydrate content in Zea mays L. were determined as a symptom of cytotoxicity caused due to glyphosate.
