- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1The effectiveness of AgNPs synthesized using Aspergillus floccosus for controlling Phoma herbarum and Aphis Pomi de Geer
Aker, Onur; Bektaş, İdris; Yazdıç, Ferit Can
This study was conducted to synthesise silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Aspergillus floccosus fungal extract and to evaluate the pesticidal efficacy of the resulting nanopesticide product against two harmful organisms (pathogenic fungus and pest) affecting apples. The synthesised AgNPs were subjected to a series of characterisation tests (UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, Zeta Potential) and, based on the results obtained, the AgNPs synthesis was successfully completed. Within the scope of this study, the first registration process has been carried out for the fungal pathogen (Phoma herbarum) that causes rot disease in apple fruits. The fungicidal efficacy of five concentrations of AgNPs (10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 mg L⁻¹) was evaluated against this pathogen under both in vitro and in vivo conditions. The results showed that AgNPs exhibited a significant inhibition on the mycelial growth of Phoma herbarum in vitro. The 200 mg L⁻¹ concentration showed the highest inhibition percentage (81.5%). Concerning in vivo test, the effect of AgNPs on disease severity index of Phoma herbarum in apple fruits was evaluated. The result of this part showed that the concentration 200 mg L⁻¹ of AgNPs exhibits highest fungicidal efficacy disease reduction rates (100%), Following by 67% for AgNPs 100 mg L⁻¹. The insecticidal effects of AgNPs on fourth-stage nymphs and adults of the pest (Aphis pomi) were evaluated in laboratory and field applications. For this purpose, AgNPs prepared at five different concentrations (30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 mg L⁻¹) were sprayed on the pests. The results showed that the insecticidal efficacy of AgNPs against Aphis pomi was directly related to both the dose and the exposure time. Specifically, the lethal concentration required to kill adults (LC50: 48.9 mg L⁻¹ for laboratory application and 68.4 mg L⁻¹ for orchard application) was higher than the dose required for nymphs (LC50: 32.3 mg L⁻¹ for laboratory and 52.1 mg L⁻¹ for orchard application). A similar trend was observed for lethal time, with adults exhibiting longer required exposure times (LT50: 51.2 h in the lab and 58.4 h in the orchard) compared to nymphs (LT50: 42.0 h in the lab and 45.1 h in the orchard). According to the results obtained, AgNPs synthesised using Aspergillus floccosus fungus have been proven to be highly effective at low doses against two major harmful organisms that cause qualitative and quantitative losses in apples. In conclusion, it has been proven that this silver-based nano pesticide product can be used as an alternative and innovative product in combating factors that cause agricultural damage to protect apple health.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Modulation of SIRT1/PPARγ pathways and tight junction proteins by nicotinamide riboside under chronic variable stress
Celik, Abdullah; Sahin, Nurhan; Orhan, Cemal; Er, Besir; Erten, Fusun; Ozmen, Busra; Tuzcu, Mehmet; Ozercan, Ibrahim Hanifi; Sahin, Kazim
Abstract: Chronic stress disrupts homeostasis, leading to major health problems such as liver damage, intestinal barrier dysfunction, and impaired glucose metabolism. Although current treatments, including anxiolytics, sedatives, antidepressants, and beta blockers, are effective, their adverse effects emphasize the need for safer alternatives. Nicotinamide riboside (NR), a precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), plays a central role in energy metabolism and oxidative stress regulation; elevated NAD + levels have been associated with reduced risk of chronic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. However, the effects of NR on liver metabolism, intestinal barrier integrity, and related protein pathways remain unclear. This study investigated the effects of NR supplementation in rats exposed to chronic variable stress (CVS). Fifty-six male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into normal and CVS groups and treated in a 2 × 4 factorial design with 0, 150, 300, or 600 mg/kg NR. Under CVS conditions, serum glucose, corticosterone, ACTH, and insulin levels increased, whereas NAD+, NADPH, nicotinamide (NAM), and nicotinic acid (NA) decreased significantly (p < 0.001). NR supplementation effectively corrected these biochemical imbalances and upregulated hepatic markers, including PPARγ, SIRT1, GLUT2, IRS1, and FASN (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the increased expression of key transport proteins such as PepT1, LAT2, EAAT3, FABP2, and FATP4 contributed to maintaining intestinal barrier integrity and improving gut health. NR also promoted the recovery of tight and adherens junction proteins. Notably, high-dose NR (600 mg/kg) markedly alleviated liver fibrosis, improved glucose metabolism, and strengthened intestinal barrier function, demonstrating its therapeutic potential as an alternative strategy against stress-induced metabolic disorders. Key points: • NR mitigated chronic stress-induced liver, intestinal, and glucose dysregulation. • NR improved glycemia and NAD⁺-related biomarkers under stress. • NR reduced hepatic fibrosis markers. • NR strengthened TJ/AJ proteins, supporting intestinal barrier integrity. • Findings support NR’s therapeutic potential in stress-related metabolism.

Selcuk Pekdemir, Sibel; Gurler, Nedim; Yilmaz Sancar, Pelin; Karagulle, Burcu; Kok, Mediha; Pekdemir, Mustafa Ersin; Qader, Ibrahim Nazem
In this study, a novel plant-based shape memory biocomposite was developed for sustainable food packaging applications. A poly(lactic acid)/poly(hydroxyalkanoate) (PLA/PHA) blend was reinforced with the ethanolic extract of Moluccella spinosa, a plant recognized for its bioactive constituents. Structural and thermal analyses confirmed the successful incorporation of the extract without compromising the polymer matrix integrity. The results demonstrated improved barrier performance, characterized by lower water vapor permeability, reduced moisture content, and slightly increased opacity with increasing concentrations of M. spinosa extract. In addition, the composite films exhibited enhanced shape memory behavior, which became more pronounced at higher extract concentrations. Antimicrobial assays revealed a limited and selective inhibitory effect, primarily against Gram-positive bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis and Clostridium perfringens), while no notable activity was observed against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. These findings indicate a preliminary antimicrobial potential, likely associated with a sustained-release mechanism rather than strong bactericidal activity. Overall, the integration of M. spinosa extract into the PLA/PHA matrix offers a promising route to design multifunctional, biodegradable packaging materials with shape memory capability, where antimicrobial functionality serves as a complementary feature, contributing to the advancement of environmentally friendly and active food packaging technologies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Water extracts of Fucus vesiculosus and Laminaria digitata enhance male reproductive parameters via antioxidant and NO/cGMP mechanisms in rats
Gencoglu, Hasan; Erten, Fusun; Er, Besir; Orhan, Cemal; Acisu, Tutku Can; Sahin, Kazim
Male sexual dysfunction is increasingly prevalent, driving interest in marine algal bioactives as potential natural modulators of reproductive physiology. Brown seaweeds such as Fucus vesiculosus and Laminaria digitata contain phlorotannins, fucoidans, and antioxidant compounds of applied relevance in phycology and biotechnology. This study assessed the effects of standardized water extracts of these two species on reproductive behavior, hormonal status, sperm quality, oxidative balance, and nitric oxide (NO)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling in male Sprague–Dawley rats. Animals received the seaweed extracts orally by gavage (300 mg kg⁻1 day⁻1) for 52 days. Both extracts improved male reproductive behavior by reducing the time required to initiate mounting, intromission, and ejaculation (mount latency, intromission latency, and ejaculation latency), while increasing the number of these sexual behaviors during the test period (p < 0.05). Serum follicle-stimulating hormone and testosterone concentrations increased, alongside higher testicular superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase activities and lower malondialdehyde levels. Sperm count and motility improved, particularly with L. digitata extract. Western blot analyses revealed phosphorylated phosphodiesterase-5, endothelial NO synthase, and cGMP levels, with reduced endothelin-1 in testicular and epididymal tissues (p < 0.05–0.001). These findings indicate that extracts of F. vesiculosus and L. digitata, chosen for their well-documented antioxidant and phlorotannin-rich profiles, confer protective and prosexual effects associated with enhanced antioxidant defense and upregulation of NO/cGMP-related pathways, with the L. digitata extract exhibiting comparatively stronger activity.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Examination of the thermal and metallographic characteristics at high temperatures of natural stones (andesite) extracted from different elevations
Işık, Erdem; Kahraman, Gökhan; Atalar, Aydın
This study examines the high‑temperature thermal response of andesite stones extracted from two different elevations of Mount Ağrı (Türkiye) in order to improve material selection strategies for engineering applications. Thermal conductivity and density values of the samples were first measured under laboratory conditions. The specimens were then heated to 850 °C and cooled by natural convection while surface temperatures were recorded at fixed time intervals using a thermal camera. Based on these measurements, convective heat transfer coefficients were determined, and the time‑dependent thermal diffusivity and Biot numbers were subsequently calculated using the first-term approximation of the Fourier series. Metallographic examinations were conducted to correlate the thermal behavior with microstructural characteristics. Results indicate a pronounced effect of elevation on thermal performance. The sample obtained from the higher elevation exhibited substantially greater thermal diffusivity, reaching 2.93 × 10⁻5 m2 s−1 at 360 s and decreasing to 8.96 × 10⁻6 m2 s−1 at 1300 s. In contrast, the lower‑elevation andesite showed lower diffusivity values (1.83 × 10⁻5 m2 s−1 at 360 s and 5.9 × 10⁻6 m2 s−1 at 1300 s). Conversely, Biot numbers were consistently higher for the lower‑elevation sample, decreasing from 0.60 to 0.29 during the cooling process, whereas the high‑elevation sample displayed values from 0.314 to 0.165. Metallographic analysis confirmed that variations in microstructure—linked to different geological formation conditions—directly influenced these thermophysical properties. Overall, the findings demonstrate that andesite sourced at higher elevations possesses superior thermal diffusivity and more favorable heat‑transfer characteristics at elevated temperatures. These results highlight the importance of geological origin in the design, assessment, and selection of natural stone materials for high‑temperature engineering applications.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Impact of soft-storey irregularity on the seismic safety of reinforced concrete buildings
Tektaş, Şeyhmus; Tam, Gürkan; Yön, Burak
This study evaluates the effect of soft-storey irregularity on the seismic fragility of reinforced concrete buildings by comparing fragility curves based on inter-storey drift and element damage. This comparison highlights the novelty of the study. For numerical analyses, a typical four-storey reinforced concrete building with a ground storey of 4.5 m and typical storeys of 3 m, having a current storey plan, was modeled as both a regular and soft-storey building. To model nonlinear behavior, the assumption of lumped plastic hinges at the ends of the structural elements was made. Static pushover analyses of the building models created in SeismoStruct 2022 were performed until the roof displacement reached 3% of the building height, while nonlinear incremental dynamic analyses were carried out using 11 real ground motion records obtained from AFAD. The records were scaled between 0.1 g and 1.0 g and applied in the x- and y-directions for both buildings, yielding a total of 440 dynamic analyses. Static pushover analyses generated capacity curves for both regular and soft-storey buildings. Incremental dynamic analyses revealed maximum responses, inter-storey drifts, damage distributions, and fragility curves for both regular and soft-storey buildings. Fragility curves were obtained using both HAZUS inter-storey drift limit values and TBEC 2018 section-based strain limits. The results showed that fragility curves generated based on inter-storey drifts yielded more sensitive results than those generated based on damage at the critical storey. Furthermore, it was determined that for an earthquake acceleration of 0.5 g, the probability of a soft-storey building collapsing was 30% higher than that of a regular building.

Utku, Anıl; Can, Ümit; BARUT, Abdulkadir; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Sharabati, Abdel-Aziz Ahmad
The COVID-19 disease has evolved into a pandemic that affects the world in multiple dimensions. While COVID-19 spread rapidly to several nations, distinct patterns of spread emerged in each nation. This spreading behavior is related to various characteristics of countries, including social, political, and economic factors. In this study, an analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic in EU and OECD countries was conducted, taking into account the social justice index for the first time. The impact and significance of the social justice index on the COVID-19 analysis results were attempted to be revealed. As a result, it is understood that the countries with high Social Justice Index scores and sub-dimension scores are more successful in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a new LSTM-based model was developed to predict the number of cases and deaths in these countries. The designed LSTM approach was compared with some well-known deep learning and machine learning algorithms. As a result of the experimental studies, the LSTM model obtained the best prediction results. Finally, the similarities between these countries in terms of the characteristics of the COVID-19 pandemic, including death and case spread, were analyzed, and exciting results were disclosed.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Regionalized Bayesian site amplification models for Türkiye
İçen, Abdullah
Accurate representation of site amplification is essential for seismic hazard analysis, particularly in regions with complex geological structure. This study develops a Bayesian hierarchical site amplification model that captures nonlinear, period-dependent, and regionally variable behavior using an extensive strong-motion dataset from Türkiye. The model employs a piecewise VS30 functional form derived from nonparametric scaling and clustering, and incorporates nonlinear scaling with reference rock motion intensity (PSArock). Regional variability is introduced through random-slope adjustments, enabling spatial differences in amplification to be represented while maintaining statistical stability through partial pooling. Results indicate pronounced nonlinear and regional variability for soft soils and reduced regional differences for stiff sites (VS30 > 600 m/s). A key observation is a systematic amplification peak within the 400–550 m/s velocity range, where the model exhibits consistent underprediction across periods. Because this feature persisted even for stations located on flat basin interiors, a detailed investigation of stations in this VS30 interval was conducted and is presented in the study. Mapping and site-specific examination reveal that many of these stations are located near slope breaks, basin edges, or transitional geological settings, suggesting that 2D/3D wave-propagation or impedance-transition effects—rather than VS30 alone—may drive the increase in the amplification. Additionally, residual underprediction persists at high-VS30 rock sites, highlighting the need for improved empirical characterization of stiff-soil and rock conditions. Overall, the proposed Bayesian framework provides a flexible, data-driven, and uncertainty-aware approach for modeling site amplification, with direct applications in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and performance-based earthquake engineering.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Federated agricultural yield forecasting under an Edge–Fog–Cloud framework: a multi-country privacy-preserving approach
Utku, Anıl; Barut, Abdulkadir; Alofaysan, Hind; Henni, Mohamed Djafar; Amoozegar, Azadeh
Predicting agricultural yields is crucial for ensuring global food security and adaptation to climate change. However, the centralized collection of agricultural data across countries might pose governance, privacy, and data sovereignty issues. This research presents a privacy-preserving model for predicting agricultural yields using federated learning within an edge-fog-cloud integrated architecture. The experiments have been performed on a European cereal production dataset for the period 1990–2022, using a time-aware forecasting scheme. Centralized, edge-only, federated, and hybrid learning techniques have been systematically compared to examine the influence of distributed optimization on forecasting performance. It can be seen that central classical machine learning algorithms have yielded the best predictive performance. Federated deep learning models, meanwhile, showed relatively poor forecasting accuracy compared to their centralized counterparts under a non-IID distribution of multi-country agricultural data. Edge-only learning, meanwhile, has yielded comparatively low generalization capabilities due to the absence of collaborative learning.

Özdemir, Osman; Yücel, Halit Lutfi; Kahraman, Gökhan
This study experimentally investigates the use of several passive cooling techniques to enhance the electrical performance of photovoltaic (PV) modules under high ambient summer temperatures in Elazığ, Turkey. Throughout the trial period of July, August, and September, a system comprising four photovoltaic panels, one designated as a reference, was developed. The first passive cooling arrangement utilized a paraffin-based phase change material (PCM) RT42HC. In the second configuration, a nano-enhanced PCM (NePCM) composite was employed, prepared by dispersing 1 mass% of Al2O3 nanoparticles into the paraffin matrix and stabilizing them with 3 mass% of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) to ensure homogeneous distribution. The third, hybrid configuration integrated 14 graphene-coated parabolic pin-tipped fins mounted externally onto the aluminum enclosure housing the NePCM composite. Experimental results demonstrated that the implemented passive cooling techniques markedly decreased the panel surface temperature, thereby enhancing electrical power output and photovoltaic efficiency. The hybrid graphene-coated fin-NePCM system demonstrated superior performance, achieving a maximum surface temperature reduction of 12.65 °C, a sustained electrical efficiency increase of 6–13%, and an average daily electrical energy gain of 26.23 Wh day−1 compared to the reference module. These findings demonstrate that the integrated hybrid design is an effective and reliable passive cooling method for sustaining photovoltaic system performance under hot climate conditions.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Evaluation of the seismic response of reinforced concrete buildings in the light of lessons learned from the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye earthquake sequences
Yön, Burak; Dedeoğlu, İbrahim Özgür; Yetkin, Musa; Erkek, Hakan; Calayır, Yusuf
On 6 February 2023, two significant seismic events occurred in the southeastern region of Türkiye. The seismic activity, which was perceptible in numerous countries beyond Türkiye, resulted in a considerable number of fatalities. A considerable number of individuals lost their lives and were rendered homeless as a result of the disaster. Two of the most significant factors contributing to the occurrence of these tragedies are the magnitude of the earthquake and structural deficiencies. The present study is concerned with a detailed analysis of these two factors. This study initially considers the seismicity of the region where the earthquakes that occurred on 6 February 2023 took place, as well as the seismic characteristics of these earthquakes. Subsequently, the findings of the field studies conducted in Hatay, Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş and Malatya, the cities where the earthquakes caused the most destruction, are presented. The objective of the field study is to ascertain the collapse patterns, structural damages and the factors influencing these damages in reinforced concrete structures in the region. The primary causes of damage to structures can be attributed to several factors, including the presence of a strong beam-weak column mechanism, the soft story-weak story mechanism, the pounding effect, the short column damage, the long cantilever and overhangs, the short beam damage, the buckling damage, the torsion effect, the quality of the materials, the insufficient transverse reinforcement, the compressive failure due to over-reinforcement, the corrosion effect, the damage to reinforced concrete shear walls, the infill wall damage, and the damage caused by the soil and foundation system. These causes have been evaluated and recommendations have been formulated to prevent structural damage.

Ölçülü, Abdullatif; Özçiçek, Esin; Kutluyer Kocabaş, Filiz; Kızak, Volkan; Kocabaş, Mehmet; Yılmaz, Ökkeş
Ferula sp. is a perennial herbaceous plant and is used in traditional medicine owing to their antimicrobial, antiviral, aphrodisiac and spermatogenic activities in the world. Hence, Ferula sp. was used in the present study for cryopreservation protocol as a herbal supplement. The impact of different concentrations [0 mM (Control), 30 µg L−1, 60 µg L−1, 90 µg L−1] of Ferula sp. extract on the quality and fatty acid (FAs) composition was assessed in fresh and cryopreserved sperm of Cyprinus carpio. Optimal supplementation of Ferula sp. at a concentration of 60 µg L−1 in the freezing extender significantly improved post-thawed sperm quality of C. carpio. Sperm motility parameters were assessed using the sperm class analyzer system. The fatty acid (FAs) content in sperm was analyzed using gas chromatography. The results revealed that the increases in motility rate (80.0 ± 3.54%) at 60 µg L−1 were increased significantly (p < 0.05). Significant differences in sperm parameters [(VCL: curvilinear velocity, VSL: straight line velocity, VAP: average path velocity, and BCF: beat cross frequency)] were observed between the different treatments (p < 0.05). The Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) showed a slight increase in comparison to fresh spermatozoa during cryopreservation. DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), LA (Linoleic acid) and ARA (Arachidonic acid) were identified as the major PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acid) in the sperm plasma membrane, and however the total PUFAs reduced all treated compared to fresh sperm samples after post-thawing. Overall, the supplementation with Ferula sp. to extender at a concentration of 60 µg L−1 positively influenced the motility parameters and FAs levels during cryopreservation and, Ferula sp. may act as a promising protective substance for the conservation of valuable fish genetic resources.

Esen, Engin; Parlak Ak, Tuba; Yaman, Mine
Neuropeptides are diverse neuronal signaling molecules that regulate cellular and physiological functions. Phoenixin (PNX) and Nucleobindin 2 (NUCB2)/nesfatin-1, which are known to co-localize and interact in some hypothalamic nuclei such as arcuate nucleus (ARC) and paraventricular nucleus (PVN), have important pleiotropic roles. The aim of this study was to investigate the immunohistochemical distribution of these neuropeptides in biological tissues of adult female and male rats. For this purpose, a total of 12 Spraque-Dawley rats, 6 female and 6 male, aged 3–4 months, were sacrificed and hypothalamus, pituitary, brain, cerebellum, adrenal gland, ovary and testis tissues were taken. Serum gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), plasma PNX-14, and NUCB2/nesfatin-1 concentrations showed no statistically differences between sexes. PNX-14 immunoreactivity was more prominent in the ARC of male rats, whereas NUCB2/nesfatin-1 immunoreactivity was markedly higher in the PVN of females. In the anterior pituitary, PNX-14 and NUCB2/nesfatin-1 staining was more intense in females relative to males. PNX-14 immunoreactivity in the brain was quite high in female and male rats, and this immunoreactivity in the cerebellum was low in both sexes. NUCB2/nesfatin-1 exhibited moderate immunoreactivity in these organs in both sexes. In the adrenal cortex of both sexes, PNX-14 immunoreactivity was quite intense, while NUCB2/nesfatin-1 was a moderate intensity. PNX-14 immunoreactivity was more intense in the ovary, whereas NUCB2/nesfatin-1 immunoreactivity was more prominent in the testis. In conclusion, we demonstrated the immunohistochemical localization of PNX-14 and NUCB2/nesfatin-1 neuropeptides, in conjunction with serum GnRH levels, in organs associated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axes of adult male and female rats.

Keçeci, Ali; Koçak, Berna; İpek, Yeliz
Promising clinical results were obtained in the treatment of coronavirus disease by using favipiravir, umifenovir, remdesivir, ribavirin, lopinavir–ritonavir, oseltamivir, etc., antiviral drug active agents. In this study, quantitative analysis of oseltamivir neuraminidase inhibitor was carried out using electrochemical techniques. DNA-based electrochemical biosensors are generally used for analysis of anticancer and antitumor medicines. The present study introduces a novel DNA-based electrochemical sensor for neuraminidase inhibitor drug oseltamivir. The developed sensor enables the analysis of oseltamivir in a more environmentally friendly, more economical and faster way. It can be used in quality control laboratories in tablet production and will provide traceability of the drug in drug development studies and analysis in urine samples. For this purpose, a modified glassy carbon electrode was used as a working electrode. The glassy carbon electrodes alone cannot detect the oseltamivir. Guanine base, which was determined to interact with oseltamivir and found in the deoxyribonucleic acid structure, was used as an electrochemical biosensor agent. The guanine base was immobilized on glassy carbon electrode using glutardialdehyde as a crosslinker material and GA2–Guanine/GCE electrode was achieved. Two working ranges were determined for the Britton-Robinson buffer solution, tablet sample, and urine sample containing oseltamivir. The lowest detection limits (LODs) were calculated as 7.16 × 10−9 mol L−1, 9.05 × 10−9 mol L−1 and 6.19 × 10−6 mol L−1 for Britton-Robinson buffer solution, tablet sample solution, and urine sample solution, respectively. The recovery ratio for the proposed sensor ranged between 86.6 and 103.5%.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Investigation of the effect of the metallographic properties of vertical and horizontal cylinders made of ferrochrome with different contents on heat transfer by natural convection
Kahraman, Gökhan; Taşgın, Yahya
In this study, ferrochrome materials containing elements with different content ratios were manufactured into six-cylinder specimens, 13 mm in diameter and 16 mm in length, and heated in a furnace up to 500 °C. The heated cylinders were removed and left to cool in vertical and horizontal positions in a 16 °C environment. The temperatures were recorded using thermal cameras at certain intervals while the materials cooled down. The six specimens, whose metallographic differences were identified using SEM and XRD analysis devices, were placed vertically and horizontally, and their heat transfer by natural conviction was noted. In the calculations, each specimen’s Nusselt and Rayleigh numbers were identified based on time and then compared. The fastest cooling among the specimens occurred in the ferrochromium material with 55.93% Cr, 31.11% Fe, 11.56% C, 0.48% Si, 0.83% O, and 0.09% Al compound ratios, both in vertical and horizontal positions. Additionally, since the Nusselt number of the horizontal cylinders remained below one based on their position, their natural convection flows were not initiated. Türkiye, which holds an important agricultural spot in the world with its ecological conditions for the cultivation of numerous plant species, has a highly rich genetic potential in terms of the genetic resource diversity of grapes. The Tunceli province, located in the Eastern Anatolia region, is a Turkish region with a harsh terrain structure. This study aims to perform the genetic characterisation and identification of the grape accessions within the Tunceli province, which are not included in the national collection vineyard and are at risk of extinction. In this study, ampelographic characterisation was conducted using a set of 78 descriptors (Vitis species) established by the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du vin) and a Principal Component Analysis was performed. A total of 54 grape samples, consisting of 52 indigenous (from six different regions/populations), 2 reference samples, 1 identical, 1 synonymous, and 4 homonymous cases, were identified using 6 SSR markers. In the structure analysis, it was observed that there was significant gene flow among the Tunceli region populations. Moreover, through the Bayesian analysis, it was determined that the Tunceli region populations (except for the reference population) had a high degree of admixture. In the FCA analysis (with the reference population), it was found that the Akpazar population in particular and, partially, the Mazgirt population, exhibited distinctions. However, genetic distance data also confirmed the distance of the Akpazar population from others. In the RPPs clustering analyses, while the entire population was distributed across 4 different RPPs, 39 accessions (72%) were assigned to one of the RPPs with a membership probability greater than 80%.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Investigating forest fire causes through an integrated Bayesian network and geographic information system approach
Konurhan, Zekeriya; Yucesan, Melih; Gul, Muhammet
Forests are among the most critical natural resources worldwide and are essential for a sustainable ecosystem. In recent years, climate change and human activities have increased their impact on forests, and forest fires-especially in summer- have caused significant forest losses globally. This paper integrates Bayesian Network (BN) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to pinpoint the possible causes of forest fires and analyze their complex interactions. The study used data from 1465 fires between 2017 and 2022 in Muğla province in southwestern Türkiye. Within the scope of the study, 11 variables were chosen, such as elevation, slope, aspect, wind speed, population density, and road network, to build a BN model that combines physical and human geographical features. These variables overlapped using the pairwise intersect tool from ArcGIS Pro during the BN model setup, and probability values were calculated. The overall probability of fire in the BN model was determined to be 0.81, with probabilities ranging from 0.81 to 0.56 in low-altitude, moderately sloped, and south-facing areas. Scenario analyses examined fire risk under different conditions, highlighting the most influential variables for fire prevention efforts. The study identified fire-prone areas as spatial data, revealing that densely forested coastal and certain inland regions are at higher risk, whereas bare high-altitude areas with steep slopes pose lower risk. The BN model can be further enhanced by incorporating additional variables, making it a valuable tool for future fire risk assessment and mitigation strategies research.

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ2Investigation of thermal, crystal and magnetic behavior of addition of Nd rare earth element effect on CuAlMn shape memory alloy
Kanca, Muhammed Sait
In this study, CuAlMn alloys, a popular Cu-based shape memory alloy, were chosen because they exhibit superior shape memory properties and improved ductility compared to other Cu-based SMAs. The rare earth element Nd (neodymium) was added to CuAlMn alloy at the specified atomic percentages in the composition Cu70-xAl24Mn6Ndx(x = 0,2,4,8) and their thermal behavior, crystal structure, surface morphology and magnetic properties were investigated after fabrication. As a result of the thermal analysis measurements, it was observed that for low Nd ratios, the austenite phase transformation initial temperature of the CuAlMn alloy was increased, while at high Nd ratios, a decrease in the shape memory property was detected. Martensitic phase and precipitate phase α phase were observed in the crystal structure properties of CuAlMn alloys without and with Nd doping. These results were also detected in surface morphology observations. In addition, the crystal size decreased from 135 to 105 nm with Nd doping. As a result of magnetic measurements, CuAlMn ternary shape memory alloy was found to be paramagnetic at room temperature. Magnetic susceptibility values of the alloys showing paramagnetic magnetic properties were calculated as 11.5 × 10–6, 12.5 × 10–6, 9.15 × 10–6 and 6.15 × 10–6 emu.Oe−1.g−1, respectively. According to these results, the magnetic susceptibility value decreased with increasing Nd ratio.
