- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ2A comparison of the performance of different innovative trend assessment approaches for air temperature and precipitation data: an application to Elazığ Province (Turkey)
Acar, Ramazan
In this study, the temporal variability of monthly total precipitation and monthly average temperature data of Palu station were analyzed. In addition to statistical analysis such as Mann–Kendall (MK) and SR, innovative polygon trend analysis (IPTA), innovative trend analysis (ITA), and combination of Wilcoxon test and scatter diagram (CWTSD) methods were used in the study. A total of 24 trend analyses (for 12 months of precipitation and temperature data) were conducted for each method used for temperature and precipitation parameters in the study. Look-ing at the results of these methods, a decreasing trend was detected only in December for precipitation data, common to all methods. For temperature data, an increasing trend was detected only in February and March. With the application of the IPTA, an increasing trend in some months and a decreasing trend in other months were detected for the two parameters. The Wilcoxon test exhibits significant consistency with the MK and Spearman's Rho (SR) in terms of the statistical trend, according to the examination of temperature and precipitation data using the CWTSD approach, which is relatively recent. Furthermore, the visual trend analysis demonstrates high consistency between the NO-ITA and Sȩn-ITA approaches.

The current study focused on the ameliorating impact of TRP (5 mM) on Salmo abanticus spermatozoa exposed to sub‑lethal concentrations of GLY (2.5, 5, and 10 mg/L). Sperm quality parameters, oxidative stress indices, and DNA damage were analyzed in the post‑exposure sperm. Our data reveal that GLY has an adverse effect on motility rate and duration, sperm kinetics parameters, antioxidant status and DNA damage, and triggers antioxidant defense mechanisms at the highest dose (10 mg/L) and it has insufficient therapeutic effect. Overall, GLY poses potential hazards to male reproductive cells and may adversely affect subsequent generations of natural populations.

Korunur, Murat; Korunur, Sibel
In this study, the energy-momentum localization problem is addressed within the framework of rainbow gravity. Considering the black string black hole, one of the cylindrical black hole models, energy-momentum distributions are obtained for Einstein, Bergmann-Thomson, and Landau-Liftshitz prescriptions in rainbow gravity. All prescriptions' energy densities are non-zero and depend on the rainbow functions, while the momentum distributions are zero. It has been observed that space-time energy does not depend on the energy of the test particle for some particular choices of rainbow functions. The results obtained for all special cases are given in a table.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ1Optimization and Kinetic Study of Manganese Leaching from Pyrolusite Ore in Hydrochloric Acid Solutions with Oxalic Acid
Karacahan, Mehmet Kayra
The leaching behavior of pyrolusite minerals was examined in hydrochloric acid solutions, including oxalic acid, to evaluate the influence of various experimental conditions. The optimum parameters for the leaching process were found in the first stage, and the process's kinetics were assessed in the second. The concentrations of oxalic acid, hydrochloric acid, and temperature were chosen as independent variables in the optimization experiments, with the central composite design used to analyze the experimental data. The optimum concentrations for oxalic acid, hydrochloric acid, and temperature were determined to be 0.75 mol/L, 1.2 mol/L, and 60 °C, respectively. The leaching rate was determined to be 97.4% for 120 min of response time in optimum situations. The kinetic assessment experiments studied the effects of solid/liquid ratio, particle size, stirring speed, and temperature on the manganese leaching rate from pyrolusite. In the studies, the leaching rate was shown to rise with increasing temperature and stirring speed, as well as with decreasing particle size and solid/liquid ratio. The kinetic analysis revealed that the leaching kinetics matched the mixed kinetic model, and a mathematical model for the leaching process was developed. This process's activation energy was determined to be 29.05 kJ/mol. Graphical Abstract: (Figure presented.)

Yön, Merve Şahin; Yön, Burak; Karataş, Mehmet; Benli, Ahmet
Sustainable self-compacting alkali-activated concrete (SCAAC) manufacturing is an environmentally friendly concrete that has a reduced carbon footprint than ordinary concrete. Alkali-activated binders have been demonstrated in experiments to reduce concrete's energy consumption and carbon emissions by over 50%. This paper focuses on manufacturing boron waste (BW), volcanic scoria (VS) and ground blast furnace slag (GBFS) incorporated binary and ternary blends of self-compacting alkali-activated mortars (SCAAM). The main objective of this study is to investigate the fresh, mechanical, durability and microstructural properties of SCAAM based on binary and ternary mixtures of BW, VS, and GBFS. SCAAM samples were synthesized at 60 °C and 100 °C for 72 h then exposed to ambient cured at 3, 28 and 90 days. The compressive strength, flexural strength, physical, and sorptivity properties of the SCAAM mixtures, as well as flowability, were investigated. The performance of the produced blends at freeze-thaw exposure were also examined. SEM, and EDS was also used to examine the microstructures of the mixtures. The findings showed that 50% GBFS and 50%VS based SCAAM mixture heat cured at 100oC activated with NS/NH ratio of 3.0 produced a compressive strength of 40 MPa at 90 days. The findings indicated that inclusion of BW to the SCAAM mixtures decreased the compressive strength notably regardless of NS/NH ratio and curing temperature. Inclusion of BW also affected the durability performance negatively.

- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ1Sustainability performance analysis of micro-mobility solutions in urban transportation with a novel IVFNN-Delphi-LOPCOW-CoCoSo framework
Ecer, Fatih; Küçükönder, Hande; Kayapınar Kaya, Sema; Faruk Görçün, Ömer
Almost all megacities worldwide are under pressure from environmental pollution and excessive resource usage due to rapid urbanization and increasing urban population. Within this scope, micro-mobility solutions (MMSs), an extension to the primary urban transportation network, have become even more critical recently. However, when we executed a preliminary investigation concerning MMSs' sustainability, we noted some critical theoretical and managerial gaps: (1) the number of studies assessing MMSs using decision-making approaches is excessively scarce, (2) no paper in the literature deals with the MMSs' sustainability performance, and (3) there are no commonly accepted criteria set to assess the sustainability of the MMSs in the literature. The current study aims to present a practical and robust decision-making framework that can overcome excessively complicated uncertainties to evaluate the sustainability performance of MMSs. Further, it suggests a novel methodological framework, i.e., Delphi, Logarithmic Percentage Change-Driven Objective Weighting (LOPCOW), and Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) methods with interval-valued fuzzy neutrosophic number (IVFNN) information, which can be defined as a reconciliation tool to set the criteria affecting the assessment processes. Findings present that computing time, scenic adoption, and accidents are the foremost criteria, whereas mini-electric VH, powered standing scooter, and powered seated scooter are the most promising MMSs, respectively. Findings reveal that computing time, scenic adoption, and accidents are the critical factors for the sustainability assessment of MMSs, whereas mini-electric VH, powered standing scooter, and powered seated scooter are the most promising MMSs, respectively. The current paper's overall outcomes and findings can assist practitioners and policy-makers in the urban transportation industry in setting sustainability policies and investing in the more rational and sustainable MMSs.

The mining and processing of traditional skeleton materials inevitably generates carbon emissions and pollutes the surrounding environment. To make full use of industrial solid waste, this work innovatively used carbide slag as skeleton material and Na2CO3 as phase change material (PCM) to fabricate shape-stable phase change composites (SSPCCs) via the cold-compression & hot-sintering method. Seven SSPCCs were fabricated with different mass ratios of carbide slag to Na2CO3. Then, the thermal energy storage (TES) performance, mechanical property, micromorphology, chemical compatibility as well as thermal cycling stability were investigated. The results showed that the carbide slag could combine with Na2CO3 to fabricate SSPCCs; Sample CN5 achieved the optimal performance with the mass ratio 52.5:47.5 of carbide slag to Na2CO3; Sample CN5 achieved a TES density of 993 J/g in the range of 100 to 900 °C, a compressive strength of 22.02 MPa and a maximal thermal conductivity of 0.62 W/(m·K); Both carbide slag and Na2CO3 were distributed uniformly in sample CN5, while good thermal stability after the 100 heating/cooling cycles and good chemical compatibility between the carbide slag components and the Na2CO3 were observed.

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ3Ochratoxin a levels in Turkish coffee: a probabilistic health risk assessment via Monte Carlo simulation
Sevim, Sumeyra; Macit, Arife; Kizil, Mevlude
Throughout history, Turkish coffee has been the most widely consumed type of coffee in Turkey. Therefore, the goal of this study was to determine the amount of ochratoxin A (OTA) present in Turkish coffee and to analyze any potential health hazards. A total of 41 Turkish coffees were collected and analyzed for OTA activity using a competitive enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). Furthermore, dietary exposure and health risk assessments for the Turkish population were calculated based on analytical results and coffee consumption data from the Turkish Nutrition and Health Survey 2019 (TNHS-2019) in three age categories (15–18, 19–64, and 65 + years). Nine of the samples contained more than 2.5 μg/kg OTA, with an average of 5.24 μg/kg. The OTA concentration in 3 samples exceeded the permissible maximum limit (5 μg/kg) established by Turkish legislation, and the mean concentration was 8.41 μg/kg. A margin of exposure (MOE) approach was used for risk characterization, considering both non-neoplastic and neoplastic consequences. There were no concerns about health risks because MOEs were more than 10,000 for all categories. Although the levels of OTA analyzed in Turkish coffee did not pose a risk to individuals in the three age categories, emphasis should be placed on minimizing and controlling OTA concentrations in Turkish coffee. Additionally, it is also necessary to consider other food sources that could contribute to OTA exposure.

- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ2Contribution of Mechanical Activation for Obtaining Potassium Chloride from Microcline
Alyosif, Bahaa; Uysal, Turan; Aydemir, Muhammet Kürşat; Erdemoğlu, Murat
The effect of intensive milling on the conversion of microcline (KAlSi3O8) to potassium chloride (KCl) occurred during the chlorination roasting process for artificial KCl production was investigated. A feldspar ore with 10.89% K2O grade and containing microcline was dry milled by a planetary ball mill for mechanical activation. Milled ore mixed with calcium chloride was roasted at temperatures between 500 and 1000 °C to get the chlorination roasting process. The product was then leached in water to dissolve KCl occurring during the roasting, which will be precipitated from the pregnant leach solution by evaporation. Results showed that potassium recovery from the unmilled ore increased rapidly up to 800 °C, and dramatically decreased at higher temperatures due to the removal of KCl from the furnace by means of evaporation. A potassium recovery of 31.95% was achieved by the unmilled ore, whereas it was 88.43% when 15 min milled ore was roasted at 750 °C. It was concluded that intensive milling caused mechanical activation of microcline to reduce the roasting temperature of the chlorination roasting process.

Background: The global nursing shortage is complex and multifaceted. Despite the policy of increasing the number of nurses, concerns about the sustainability of the nursing workforce in Turkey continue. Aim: To evaluate the relationship between unemployment anxiety, job satisfaction, and migration attitudes among Turkish nursing candidates. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 1100 nursing candidates between April and June 2022. The data gathered from the “Personal Form, Job Satisfaction, and Brain Drain Attitudes Scale” were analyzed using logistic regression and decision tree analysis. Results: Of the participants, 67.1% were female, and the mean age was 22.6 ± 1.7 years. Being male (OR = 1.317, 95% Cl 0.994–1.743) having a low income (OR = 1.754, 95% Cl 1.334–2.306), feeling insecure about the future (OR = 2.340, 95% Cl 1.312–4.175), expecting a lower wage than desired (OR = 2.015, 95% Cl 1.132–3.586), and employment precariousness (OR = 1.786, 95% Cl 1.355–2.353) increase the possibility of experiencing high unemployment anxiety. On the other hand, family support for living abroad (OR = 0.579, 95% CI 0.408–0.821) and job satisfaction (OR = 0.799, 95% CI 0.692–0.921) decrease unemployment anxiety (p < 0.05). According to the results of the decision tree analysis, the host country's pull factors are the best predictors of the nursing candidates' intention to work abroad as nurses (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The increasing prevalence of unemployment anxiety and migration tendencies among nursing candidates requires the evaluation of policies aimed at increasing the number of nursing graduates in Turkey.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ1A Multi-Input Convolutional Neural Networks Model for Earthquake Precursor Detection Based on Ionospheric Total Electron Content
Uyanık, Hakan; Şentürk, Erman; Akpınar, Muhammed Halil; Ozcelik, Salih T. A.; Kokum, Mehmet; Freeshah, Mohamed; Sengur, Abdulkadir
Earthquakes occur all around the world, causing varying degrees of damage and destruction. Earthquakes are by their very nature a sudden phenomenon and predicting them with a precise time range is difficult. Some phenomena may be indicators of physical conditions favorable for large earthquakes (e.g., the ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC)). The TEC is an important parameter used to detect pre-earthquake changes by measuring ionospheric disturbances and space weather indices, such as the global geomagnetic index (Kp), the storm duration distribution (Dst), the sunspot number (R), the geomagnetic storm index (Ap-index), the solar wind speed (Vsw), and the solar activity index (F10.7), have also been used to detect pre-earthquake ionospheric changes. In this study, the feasibility of the 6th-day earthquake prediction by the deep neural network technique using the previous five consecutive days is investigated. For this purpose, a two-staged approach is developed. In the first stage, various preprocessing steps, namely TEC signal improvement and time-frequency representation-based TEC image construction, are performed. In the second stage, a multi-input convolutional neural network (CNN) model is designed and trained in an end-to-end fashion. This multi-input CNN model has a total of six inputs, and five of the inputs are designed as 2D and the sixth is a 1D vector. The 2D inputs to the multi-input CNN model are TEC images and the vector input is concatenated space weather indices. The network branches with the 2D inputs contain convolution, batch normalization, and Rectified Linear Unit (ReLU) activation layers, and the branch with the 1D input contains a ReLU activation layer. The ReLU activation outputs of all the branches are flattened and then concatenated. And the classification is performed via fully connected, softmax, and classification layers, respectively. In the experimental work, earthquakes with a magnitude of Mw5.0 and above that occurred in Turkey between 2012 and 2019 are used as the dataset. The TEC data were recorded by the Turkey National Permanent GNSS Network-Active (TNPGN-Active) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations. The TEC data five days before the earthquake were marked as “precursor days” and the TEC data five days after the earthquake were marked as “normal days”. In total, 75% of the dataset is used to train the proposed method and 25% of the dataset is used for testing. The classification accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-score values are obtained for performance evaluations. The results are promising, and an 89.31% classification accuracy is obtained.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ1Greening Industrially Applied Toxic Cadmium Plating with γ-Ni2Zn11 Alloy in Deep Eutectic Solvents: Promising Electroplating Efficiency and Chemical Corrosion Resistance
Cihangir, Salih
Cadmium is an industrially applied plating metal used in aerospace applications, but electrodeposition of cadmium is toxic, and current production method will soon be banned. Therefore, electrodeposition of alternative alloys in environmentally friendly solutions is an attractive research area. An additive-free, nonaqueous, deep eutectic solvent (DES) containing Ni and Zn halide salts is developed in a greener environmental method. Gamma-phase nanocrystalline Ni2Zn11 is coated onto hot-rolled mild steel via pulse reverse current (PRC) in the developed nonaqueous solvent. The employed DES’ relatively low viscosity and sufficient conductivity enable the simultaneous reduction of Ni2+ and Zn2+ cations on microelectrode. Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (eQCM) analysis proves the absence of the commonly reported problem of electrode blocking during electrodeposition, revealing an efficiency of 86.07%. Appropriate PRC parameters are applied for scaled macroelectrode deposition. The plating profile exhibits 20 μm-thick alloy deposition without cracks around 3 h. Scanning electron microscopy–electron-dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that 15.5 wt% Ni is in the nanograin phase, and all crystal planes belong to the γ-Ni2Zn11 phase, which is needed as an alternative to cadmium plating. Hardness and corrosion tests performed on the γ-Ni2Zn11 coating reveal better hardness and corrosion resistance with supporting morphological evidence.

The fabrication and characterization of high-performance devices for optoelectronic applications, particularly their response to incident light, are crucial. In this study, a MnPc/DLC device was fabricated using thermal evaporation and magnetron sputtering techniques, and its fundamental optoelectronic properties were characterised. Key diode parameters including barrier height, ideality factor, reverse saturation current, series resistance, and shunt resistance were determined using several methods, such as TE, Ohm's Law, the modified Norde method, and the Mikhelashvili method. The results from these methods were found to be consistent with varying light intensities. Additionally, photodetector parameters of the MnPc/DLC device were measured at ±1 V under light intensities of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 mW/cm2, and the findings were compared with the literature. The maximum values for photocurrent, photoresponsivity, photosensitivity, specific detectivity, and on/off ratio were 6.41 × 10−2 A, 2.49 A/W, 2.02 × 105, 5.8 × 109 Jones and 2.06 × 103, respectively. Notably, the photocurrent, photoresponsivity, photosensitivity, and on/off ratio values were found to be significantly higher and more promising compared to those reported in the literature.

- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ2Genotoxic effect of iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles on Triticum aestivum (wheat)
Tasar, Neslihan
Industrial activities and unconscious consumption of natural resources cause environmental pollution with the rapid increase in the world population. As a result of the widespread use of iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe2O3 NP) with nano-industrial activities, it is predicted that this NP will accumulate in the air, water, and soil. In the present study, the purpose was to find out the genotoxic effects on root meristem cells of the Triticum aestivum L. plant, which is an indicator organism exposed to 20–40 nm Fe2O3 NPs at different concentrations (100, 200, and 400 ppm). The amount of Fe2O3 NP accumulated in T. aestivum used in the study was determined with x-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), SEM element map, and EDS characteristic spectrum. All concentrations of Fe2O3 NP caused significant decreases in the mitotic index. Fe2O3 NPs significantly increased the frequency of mitotic abnormalities in T. aestivum root tip cells at all treatment times and all concentrations when compared to the control. Fe2O3 NPs were formed by various mitotic abnormalities such as loss of genetic material, deconstructed prophase, adhesion, chromosome groupings in metaphase, deconstructed metaphase, C-Metaphase, chromosomal loss, chromosomal fracture, polyploidy, deconstructed anaphase, lagging chromosome, fragment, polar deviation, bridging, propagation, asynchronous division, star anaphase, multipolarity, and deconstructed telophase. All these results show that Fe2O3 NPs are genotoxic and clastogenic and may also cause DNA damage. Briefly, these data show that Fe2O3 NPs taken by organisms may pose a danger to the organism and the upper consumer. These findings also show that the production and use of Fe2O3 NPs, which affect organisms, must be controlled, and ultimately, be safely disposed of to reduce their bioaccumulation. Research Highlights: In the present study, the purpose was to find out the genotoxic effects on root meristem cells of the Triticum aestivum L. (bread wheat) plant, which is an indicator organism exposed to 20–40 nm Fe2O3 NPs at different concentrations (100, 200, and 400 ppm). The amount of Fe2O3 NP accumulated in T. aestivum used in the study was determined with x-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), SEM element map, and EDS characteristic spectrum. The mitotic index was calculated to reveal the genotoxic effect. “Loss of genetic material, deconstructed prophase, adhesion, chromosome groupings in metaphase, deconstructed metaphase, C-Metaphase, chromosomal loss, chromosomal fracture, polyploidy, deconstructed anaphase, lagging chromosome, fragment, polar deviation, bridging, propagation, asynchronous division, star Chromosomal abnormalities such as anaphase, multipolarity, and deconstructed telophase” were visualized. - MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ2A Provincial Centre on the western border of Urartu: Palu Fortress
Danismaz, Harun
Palu Kalesi is a fortress site situated in modern Elazig province. In the Middle Iron Age, this region was the western borderland of the Urartian Kingdom and the primary contact zone where political and cultural relations transpired between the Urartu and the neighbouring Neo-Hittite kingdoms. The site was also a strategically crucial military post that provided logistic support for the Urartian armies during their western expeditions. The fortress was built as a provincial centre shortly after the foundation of the Urartian Kingdom, and the settlement lasted for a long time until the fall of the kingdom. This study presents previously unrecognised archaeological remains, which were identified during our recent investigations at Palu Fortress. Our survey of the site revealed that the Middle Iron Age citadel consisted of two sectors, and the Lower Citadel was enclosed by sturdy fortifications and terrace walls reinforced with bastions. Moreover, while Urartian rock signs were already recorded at Palu, our investigations documented previously unknown rock signs at the site. In addition, other previously unrecognised features dating to the post-Urartian periods were identified by our recent investigations, including five single-roomed rock-cut tombs and two stepped rock-cut tunnels. To better understand the relationship of the archaeological features at the site, a topographic map of Palu Fortress was drawn and visible archaeological remains dated to the Urartian and post-Urartian periods were marked on this map. In addition, the multi-roomed tombs of the Urartian period were scanned using Lidar sensors, and Lidar data were used to generate 3D models and rectified plans of the tombs. Finally, a preliminary virtual 3D reconstruction of the Urartian period fortifications was generated on the basis of recently discovered remains.
