- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ2A comparison of the performance of different innovative trend assessment approaches for air temperature and precipitation data: an application to Elazığ Province (Turkey)
Acar, Ramazan
In this study, the temporal variability of monthly total precipitation and monthly average temperature data of Palu station were analyzed. In addition to statistical analysis such as Mann–Kendall (MK) and SR, innovative polygon trend analysis (IPTA), innovative trend analysis (ITA), and combination of Wilcoxon test and scatter diagram (CWTSD) methods were used in the study. A total of 24 trend analyses (for 12 months of precipitation and temperature data) were conducted for each method used for temperature and precipitation parameters in the study. Look-ing at the results of these methods, a decreasing trend was detected only in December for precipitation data, common to all methods. For temperature data, an increasing trend was detected only in February and March. With the application of the IPTA, an increasing trend in some months and a decreasing trend in other months were detected for the two parameters. The Wilcoxon test exhibits significant consistency with the MK and Spearman's Rho (SR) in terms of the statistical trend, according to the examination of temperature and precipitation data using the CWTSD approach, which is relatively recent. Furthermore, the visual trend analysis demonstrates high consistency between the NO-ITA and Sȩn-ITA approaches.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ3Influence of cross-section geometry on air demand ratio in high-head conduits with a radial gate

When the gate of a high-head conduit is partly opened, negative pressure draws the air in through the air vent. Air that is entrained into the water is instantly forced downstream in the form of air bubbles. When studies on high-head gated conduits were examined, it was determined that the air demand ratio varied depending on many hydraulic and geometric parameters. This work has focused on determining the effect of conduit cross-section geometry on the air-demand ratio. A series of experiments were carried out on high-head radial gated conduits having different cross-section geometries. Experimental results showed that conduit cross-section geometry had an important effect on the air demand ratio especially in small gate opening rates. Further, design equations for the air demand ratio are presented relating the air demand ratio to Froude number, gate opening rate, and the ratio of gate opening to conduit length.

Tanyol, Mehtap; Ogedey, Aysenur; Oguz, Ensar
This study examines the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) from landfill leachate generated from the municipal landfill site of Bingol, Turkey. The effect of parameters such as current density, pH, and inter-electrode distance during the electrocoagulation (EC) process on COD removal of the process was investigated. Moreover, for COD removal, the energy consumption and operating costs were calculated for iron electrode under the EC conditions. COD removal efficiency was 72.13% at the current density of 16 mA m-2, pH of 8.05, and the inter-electrode distance of 9 mm at the detention time of 60 min with iron electrode and the COD concentration was reduced from 6,100 mg L-1 to 1,700 mg L-1 by EC. The highest value of the electrical energy and electrode consumptions per kg of COD in the optimum conditions were determined as 0.055 kWh kg-1 COD and 3.43 kg kg-1 COD and the highest operating cost value was found to be 1.41 US$ kg-1 COD for 0-60 min time intervals.

- MakaleYalnız künye2017Scopus SJRQ2Optimizing electrocoagulation process using experimental design for COD removal from unsanitary landfill leachate
Ogedey, Aysenur; Tanyol, Mehtap
Leachate is the most difficult wastewater to be treated due to its complex content and high pollution release. For this reason, since it is not possible to be treated with a single process, a pre-treatment is needed. In the present study, a batch electrocoagulation reactor containing aluminum and iron electrodes was used to reduce chemical oxygen demand (COD) from landfill leachate (Tunceli, Turkey). Optimization of COD elimination was carried out with response surface methodology to describe the interaction effect of four main process independent parameters (current density, inter-electrode distance, pH and time of electrolysis). The optimum current density, inter-electrode distance, pH and time of electrolysis for maximum COD removal (43%) were found to be 19.42 mA/m2, 0.96 cm, 7.23 and 67.64 min, respectively. The results shown that the electrocoagulation process can be used as a pre-treatment step for leachate.
