Aydın, Ayşe Nur; Serdar, Osman
In parallel with the increase in the need for raw materials used in industry, the area and amount of use of Rare Earth Elements are also increasing. Yttrium (Y), which is used as a raw material source, is thought to form residues in the environment. Gammarus pulex individuals were selected as a model organism to investigate the effects of Yttrium on the environment and aquatic organisms. G. pulexes were exposed to Y at different temperatures (16, 18, and 20 °C) and concentrations (25, 100, and 500 µg/L) for 96 hours and samples were taken at 24 and 96 hours for biochemical analyses. For biomarker analysis, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities, thiobarbituric acid (TBARS) and glutathione (GSH) levels were performed using CAYMAN ELISA kit. Study data revealed that SOD and CAT activities increased significantly with increasing temperature and exposure concentration, while GPx activity showed an irregular response; in contrast, no significant change was observed in TBARS levels at 16 °C, while the increase in TBARS and significant changes in GSH levels at 18 and 20 °C indicate that oxidative stress becomes more pronounced at high temperatures. In this study, temperature data trend analysis is conducted, which is thought to be influenced by global warming, climate change, and local factor impacts. The main objective of this paper is to obtain an acceptable autoregressive correlation value for the MK test. For this purpose, seasonality (periodicity) especially in monthly time series is adjusted. Autoregressive correlation and homogeneity test values decrease after seasonal adjusting, but reasonable results are not achieved. Then, prewhitening procedure is also applied to the seasonally adjusted data. This process resulted in the data becoming both homogeneous and free autoregressive correlation. The final version of the time series is suitable for the MK test. Furthermore, the time series are divided into different time intervals, and the efficacy of the method is investigated. The results demonstrated that the method is suitable for time series with less than 30 years of data. The study demonstrated that the proposed method enhances the reliability of the data. Also, multiplication by 12 (months) allows the MK test with Z score in place of the Student's t-test in short-term data sets. This suggested methodology can be used to identify MK trend conditions in monthly time series. The application is based on monthly and annual average temperature data between 1957 and 2022 from three stations within the Kızılırmak basin (Çankırı, Kırşehir, Sivas stations) and one station within Seyhan Basin (Adana station) in Türkiye. The test results exhibited a significant increasing trend.

Due to increasing climate change, it has become important to determine whether the dose-response relationship of organisms to some substances is affected by temperature. For this reason, in this study, it was aimed to reveal the effect of the temperature variable on the toxic response using the Dreissena polymorpha model organism and some of its biomarkers. For this purpose, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in Dreissena polymorpha exposed to subletal concentrations of λ-cyhalothrin at different temperatures were measured using commercial ELISA kits. According to the results obtained, there was a statistically significant increase in MDA levels in the groups exposed to λ-cyhalothrin, while a decrease in GSH levels was found. AChE levels were inhibited especially in the groups exposed high concentrartion of λcyhalothrin. It was also found that the inhibition levels increased depending on the application times. While SOD enzyme activity decreased, CAT enzyme activity increased depending on the exposure concentration. It has been observed that different temperature have different effects on the toxicity of λ-cyhalothrin. It was observed that λ-cyhalothrin caused oxidative stress and neurotoxicity, and the toxicity of λ-cyhalothrin changed depending on the temperature.

Akgul, E.; Can, E.
In this study, the anesthetic effects of 2-phenoxyethanol (2-PE, with %99 purity, BASF, Germany) on Munzur trout (Salmo munzuricus., a native species) originated from Munzur stream have been studied. 300 fish with the average weight of 4.42±0.62 g and length of 8.10±0.60 cm were used. To determine the anesthetic effects of various concentrations of 2-PE on Munzur trout fingerlings, the experiments were performed in two different temperatures (13 ºC and 18ºC) and five different concentrations (0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 ml L-1). 2-PE was used in this study as an anesthetic agent. In the anesthetic processing we practiced in all concentrations, except for 0.1 ml L-1 of 2-PE, loss of reflex (S5) was determined between 68 sec and 276 sec, and total behavioral recovery (R3) was determined between 58 sec and 208 sec. Induction times of anesthesia varied with anesthetic concentrations, decreasing with the increases of 2-PE concentrations. On the other hand, recovery times increased with decreasing of anesthetic concentrations. The lowest effective dose was determined as 0.3 ml L-1 at the temperatures 13 ºC and 18ºC. In this study, first time optimum anesthetic doses of 2-PE were determined for fingerling specimens of Salmo munzuricus which is endemic to Munzur stream and has an importance for aquaculture.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ1Thermal Image Processing Technique for Determination of Temperature Distributions of Minced Beef Thawed by Ohmic and Conventional Methods
Döner, Deniz; Çokgezme, Ömer Faruk; Çevik, Mutlu; Engin, Mustafa; İçier, Filiz
In the present study, the effectiveness of ohmic thawing (OT) on temperature distribution (TD) was evaluated by using a non-destructive measurement method: thermal imaging (TI). The effects of both OT process parameters and sample properties on TD of thawed minced beef were determined. Thermal images were taken from the central cross-sectional area of a thawed sample. In the first part of the study, the effects of OT system parameters (voltage gradient; 10–13–16 V/cm and electrode type; E1:titanium foil electrode with a smooth surface, E2: needled-type titanium electrode, E3: titanium electrode with pyramid surface shaped) and sample shape (X: 13 × 4 × 3 cm3; Y: 13 × 6 × 2 cm3; Z: 13 cm height × 3.91 cm diameter) were analyzed in detail. The best thawing condition (electrode type E2 and sample shape Y) was determined by taking into account of thawing time and TD properties obtained from a developed TI processing technique. In the second part of the study, the effects of OT process on TD properties of minced beef having different fat contents (2–10–18%) were compared with those of two different conventional thawing processes (stationary cold ambient + 4 °C -RT and under cold running water + 4 °C -WT). The percentage of thawed portions in central section was above 68% for OT and varied between 12 and 54% for CT. Rectangular-shaped samples had more homogeneous temperature distributions than cylindrical samples (p < 0.05). TI could be used to control the process by non-destructive monitoring of temperature during OT.

Korunur, Sibel; Zengin, Bilgin; Yilmaz, Ali
Background: Human serum albumin (HSA) is often selected as a subject of any study because albumin is the most abundant protein in human blood plasma. NMR is recognized as a valuable method to determine the structure of proteins-ligand and protein-drug complexes. Objective - Aim of the study: In this study, protein drug interactions were investigated using 5-Fluorouracil anticancer drug and human serum albumin protein. Materials and methods: In this context 400 MHz NMR spectrometry was used and NMR relaxation rates in drug-albumin complex were investigated with respect to increase albumin concentration and increase in 5-Fluoro-uracil (5-FU)-albumin solution temperature. Results: The results of this study indicated that 5-FU had a weak association with albumin, and it easily dissociated from the protein to which it was attached. Conclusion: The obtained results also gave us useful information about molecular dynamics of drug-albumin interactions.

In this study, the load-carrying capacity of a single-lap joint bonded by an adhesive was determined experimentally. Glass fiber-epoxy composite material was chosen as adherends and Loctite (R) 9466 A&B2 was used as adhesive. The vacuum assisted resin infusion method (VARIM) was used to manufacture composites. In this experimental study, the effects of hole drilling and temperature were investigated. Five hole configurations and three temperatures (room temperature, 50 degrees C, and 80 degrees C) were considered. The results show that hole drilling elevate the failure load and when the temperature increases the load-carrying capacity decreases.

- MakaleYalnız künye2013Scopus SJRQ3The Anesthetic Effects of Clove Oil and 2-Phenoxyethanol on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) at Different Concentrations and Temperatures
Yildiz, M.; Kayim, M.; Akin, S.
In this study, anesthetic effects of five different concentrations of 2-phenoxyethanol (0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 ml/L) and clove oil (0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25 and 1.50 ml/L) on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were studied at temperatures 7, 13 and 18 degrees C. For this purpose, 900 fish (39.08 +/- 1.13 g and 15.48 +/- 0.21 cm) were used in the experiment. Induction time of 2-phenoxyethanol and clove oil varied between 1.05 and 3.36 min at all concentrations, except for 0.2 ml/L (for 2-phenoxyethanol only) and at every temperature application. Full recovery time occurred between 2.44 and 7.14 min for 2-phenoxyethanol and 3.23 - 6.11 min for clove oil. It was found that full recovery times significantly increased with increase in 2-phenoxyethanol concentrations (r(2)=0.81). The same increasing trend was observed in clove oil, but the increase was not strong compared to 2-phenoxyethanol (r(2)=0.21). On the other hand, full induction times of 2-Phenoxyethanol and clove oil significantly declined with the increase in concentrations (r(2)=0.74; r(2)=0.84 for 2-phenoxyethanol and clove oil, respectively). Based on the ideal induction (less than 3 min) and recovery (less than 5 min) time criteria, it can be suggested that the most appropriate concentrations for rainbow trout were 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 ml/L for 2-phenoxyethanol and 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 ml/L for clove oil.
