Yılmazer Polat, Berivan
The use of alkali-activated mortars instead of cemented mortars provides an advantage in terms of various properties such as high strength, fast curing, and high durability by terminating cement production. However, concrete cracks reduce durability and strength, thus, it is crucial that they be healed. This study aimed to investigate the healing of early microcracks in geopolymer mortars by using Sporasarcina pasteurii, which makes carbonate precipitation, and expanded perlite aggregate as the bacteria carrier. This is the first study to investigate the bacterial healing of an alkali-activated geopolymer mortar using expanded perlite aggregate without applying a complex encapsulation process to the bacterial agents. For this purpose, optical, physical, and mechanical changes caused by self-healing were observed ahead of and after the cure period with tests like water absorption, compressive strength, UPV, SEM, FTIR, and optical microscope images. The results showed that bacterial cells could sporulate directly on the expanded perlite aggregate, visually improving the crack closure rate of the samples by a majority to 100 %, and the unit weights of all samples healed in DM and containing bacteria increased by up to 5 %.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ1The bioremediation of glyphosate in soil media by some newly isolated bacteria: The COD, TOC removal efficiency and mortality assessment for Daphnia magna
Korkmaz, Volkan; Yildirim, Numan; Erguven, Gokhan Onder; Durmus, Barbaros; Nuhoglu, Yasar
In this study, the bioremediation capacity of three isolates of Bacillus aryabhattai, Pseudomonas azotoformans and Sphingomonas pseudosanguinis and their consortia at glyphosate added soil medium investigated via the reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) parameters in filtrate waters obtained from a designed bioremediation setup. Additionally, mortality assays were performed on the filtrate waters with model organism Daphnia magna. According to the results of the experiments, at the end of the 11 days, the highest COD reduction rate seen in media with S. pseudosanguinis as 92.1% while TOC rate was 69.13% in consortia media. While the mortality rate was 10, 10 and 5% on B, P and S application groups at the end of the 72th respectively, these rates were 100% in control group at the end of the 48th. According to the results obtained from bioremediation and mortality assessment, these bacteria can reach the high bioremediation rate one by one and in consortia media.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Reviewing Phlomis rigida Labill From Turkey as a Antimicrobial Efficacy
Sönmez, Pınar Erecevit; Kirbağ, Sevda; Çakilcioğlu, Uğur
This work researched the inhibitory properties of the extract of Phlomis rigida Labill plant including chloroform on gram-negative and positive bacteria, yeasts and dermatophyta; the related plant is used for therapeutic purpose in public. For the disk diffusion method, this extract is effective on Pseudomonas aeruginosa that is one of the negative bacterias by 11.33 ± 0.57 mm inhibition areas. Regarding other bacterias, the effect of the related extract is so low in avoiding the improvement of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus megaterium by 8.33 ± 0.57 mm inhibition area. It has highly effective on Trichopyton sp. and Candida albicans that are from dermatophytes fungis and yeast by 16.33 ± 0.57 mm inhibition area. About yeast and dermatophytes fungi it has a remarkable impact on Candida glabrata (14.33 ± 0.57 mm inhibition area), Epidermophyton sp. (12.33 ± 0.57 mm inhibition area). Antimicrobial activity of this natural extract against all the microorganisms that were tested by MIC method by concentrations vary by 100 uL and 6.25 uL. Acording to this; the results showed good inhibitory effect with 6.25 μL for C. albicans, Trichophyton sp. with 12.25 μL for C. glabrata. In the other hand it is effective with 25 μL for P. aeruginosa, Epidermophyton sp. with 50 μL for E. coli, S. aureus, B. megaterium. Being used plants for medical purposes as from since the early ages show that these plants can be used as alternatives of available antibiotics; including important medical components is the other reason for being an alternative at the same time. Concerning results, P. rigida can be utilized as a therapeutic drug for the healing of infections caused by microorganisms. In this study, we believe that the P. rigida is important in the search for new antibiotics and will contribute to the literature and the world of drug as it affects different types of microorganisms at the lowest level for the first time.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2016Scopus SJRQ3Efficiency of some soil bacteria for chemical oxygen demand reduction of synthetic chlorsulfuron solutions under agiated culture conditions
Erguven, G. O.; Yildirim, N.
This study searches the efficiency of certain soil bacteria on chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction of synthetic chlorsulfuron solutions under agitated culture conditions. It also aims to determine the turbidity of liquid culture medium with chlorsulfuron during bacterial incubation for 120 hours. As a result the highest and lowest COD removal efficiency of bacteria was determined for Bacillus simplex as 94% and for Micrococcus luteus as 70%, respectively at the end of the 96th hour. It was found that COD removal efficiency showed certain differences depend on the bacterial species. It was also observed that B. simplex had the highest COD removal efficiency and it was a suitable bacterium species for bioremediation of a chlorsulfuron contaminated soils.

- MakaleYalnız künye2016Scopus SJRQ3The capacity of some newly bacteria and fungi for biodegradation of herbicide trifluralin under agiated culture media
Erguven, G. O.; Bayhan, H.; Ikizoglu, B.; Kanat, G.; Nuhoglu, Y.
Bioremediation is the use of microorganisms to degrade environmental contaminants (pesticides, polyaromatic hydrocarbons etc.) into less toxic forms or compounds. In this study microbial biodegradation of trifluralin was performed in liquid media with 11 different types of identified fungi and bacteria cultures and their mixtures in agiated culture media. The isolated fungi and bacteria mixtures showed the highest degradation, reaching 93% in the chemical oxygen demand (COD) parameter in four days and 82% as trifluralin active ingredient in five days. Bacteria and fungi mixtures achieved 69% and 66% degradations of trifluralin active ingredient respectively. In the fungi studies, the best removal was achieved by M. Chlamydosporia at 80%, in the bacteria studies, the best removal was achieved by Bacillus simplex about 95% in five days. These different removal rates were due to the microbial differencies.
