In this study, the presence and biometric characteristics of Dreissena caputlacus (Schütt, 1993) and Dreissena polymorpha gallandi (Locard, 1893) populations were determined in Çamlıgöze Dam Lake. Shell length (SL), shell height (SH), shell width (SW) data of individuals collected in the study area were used with a digital caliper; The weights of individuals (W) were determined using precision scales. The means of SL, SW, SH and W in D. caputlacus and D. polymorpha gallandi were determined as 22.66±4.33 and 30.03±3.17 mm, 15.88±4.16 and 14.54±1.46 mm; 13.37±2.85 and 14.51±1.41 mm; 94±1.12 and 3.29±0.95 g, respectively. According to principal component analysis, there was a strong relationship between SH, SW, SL and W for both species. For D. caputlacus and D. polymorpha gallandi, 82.283% and 94.502% of the total variance was explained by two principal components. D. caputlacus and D. polymorpha gallandi populations from Çamlıgöze Dam Lake were reported for the first time in this study.

Ozcelik, Mehtap; Erisir, Mine; Guler, Osman; Baykara, Murat; Bulmus, Funda Gulcu
The antioxidant and protective effect of resveratrol against irradiation induced oxidative damage were researched. Twenty-one rats were seperated into 3 groups; First group was the control group. Second group was the irradiation group; received physiological saline intraperitoneally (i.p.) for three days, then 9 Gray (Gy) irradiation was applied. Third group was irradiation+Resveratrol group; received 10 mg/kg resveratrol i.p. for three days and then the same dose of radiation was applied. As a result of irradiation, a significant increase was found in the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver, kidney and brain tissues of rats (P<0.001). Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in all the tissues and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, Glutathione (GSH) levels in liver decreased (P<0.01), GSH levels in kidney, spleen and ovarium tissues significantly increased (P<0.05). The giving of resveratrol significantly reduced the MDA levels increasing in liver, kidney, and brain as a result of irradiation (P<0.001) and the liver MDA levels reached to the control levels. By giving resveratrol, it was determined that all the antioxidants studied reduced significantly compared to the control group and/or the irradiation group (P<0.05). According to the data obtained as a result; It was concluded that resveratrol shows a corrective effect by changing the oxidant/antioxidant balance against oxidative stress caused by irradiation, therefore resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant.

The aim of present study was to compare oxidant and antioxidant status of Çoruh trout (Salmo coruhensis), Anatolian trout (Salmo rizeensis) and rainbow trout (Oncorynchus mykiss) spermatozoa. Fish were obtained from Uzungöl. Enzymatic antioxidant activities (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase), glutathione and lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde) were determined in spermatozoa of three trout species. Results indicated that catalase (23.36±0.36 K/g.protein), glutathione peroxidase (74.00±1.5 U/g.protein), glutathione (0.57±1.24 µmol/g.cell) and malondialdehyde levels (6.55±2.01 nmol/g cell) were highest levels in Anatolian trout (S. rizeensis) spermatozoa. In conclusion, differences among species caused alterations in the antioxidant and malondialdehyde levels.
