Ekonomik Politika Belirsizliği ve Borsa Dinamikleri: BIST 100'den Elde Edilen Kanıtlar

    Adli, Fatih

Development of the intention to be physically active scale: A validity and reliability study in the context of physical education and sport

    Şahin, Aykut; Öner, Burak

The aim of this study is to develop a scale for the intention to be physically active within the context of physical education and sports, and to examine its psychometric properties. The scale development process began with the creation of an item pool based on a theoretical foundation and establishing content validity through expert opinions. The research was conducted with data obtained from 439 middle school students. To determine the construct validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were performed. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value (0.91) and the results of the Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity showed that the data were suitable for factor analysis. In the first stage, during the factor extraction process of the EFA conducted with data from 154 students, the eigenvalue rule (>1), scree plot, and parallel analysis results were evaluated together. As a result of the EFA, it was determined that the scale had a single-factor structure with 13 items in a 5-point Likert type format, and this single factor explained 47.07% of the total variance. In the second stage, the CFA conducted with data from 285 students revealed that the model had acceptable fit indices (x2/df=2.40, CFI=.94, GFI=.92, TLI=.93, RMSEA=.07, SRMR=.04). To prove construct validity, the CR value was calculated as 0.91 and the AVE value as 0.44. The CR value being well above the threshold supported the convergent validity evidence for the AVE value. Reliability analyses of the scale indicated that Cronbach’s Alpha was 0.90 and McDonald’s Omega was 0.91, demonstrating high internal consistency coefficients. Higher scores on the scale indicate that students have a greater intention to be physically active in the future. As a result, it was determined that the intention to be physically active scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for physical education settings.

Physical education and sports teacher candidates’ perspectives on meaning in life and smartphone addiction: a mixed-method study

    Şahin, Aykut; Öner, Burak

Objective – This study aims to examine the relationship between physical education and sports (PES) teacher candidates’ levels of meaning in life and smartphone addiction, and to explore in depth how this relationship occurs through qualitative data. Methods – The study was conducted using the explanatory sequential design, one of the mixed-method designs. The quantitative part of the study included 392 PES teacher candidates studying at four universities in Turkey. Quantitative data were collected using the Meaning in Life Questionnaire and the Smartphone Addiction Scale—Short Form. Results – The findings showed a low-level, negative, and significant relationship between the presence of meaning and smartphone addiction, whereas no significant relationship was found between the search for meaning and smartphone addiction. Additionally, a low-level, positive, and significant relationship was determined between the presence of meaning and the search for meaning. In the qualitative phase of the research, semi-structured interviews were conducted to support the quantitative findings. Participants’ views indicated that sports provide individuals with meaning in life and partially balance smartphone use. Conclusion – As a result, it was determined that the concept of the search for meaning is influenced by the sports context and the sample’s characteristics, and is not a direct risk factor for smartphone addiction; rather, the search for meaning may be an indicator of adaptation or personal development, not merely a lack of a meaningful life. In contrast, it was concluded that experiencing a high level of meaningful life among PES teacher candidates has a protective effect against the risk of smartphone addiction.

Structural alignment and thematic complementarity between ISO 7101:2023 and Türkiye’s hospital quality standards: a qualitative document analysis

    Karahüseyinoğlu, Furkan

Background: ISO 7101:2023, adopted in Türkiye as TS ISO 7101:2023, is an international management system standard for healthcare quality management published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in October 2023 and structured according to ISO’s harmonised high-level architecture. SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 (Sağlıkta Kalite Standartları Hastane Sürüm 6.1) is Türkiye’s national hospital quality standards framework, comprising 5 dimensions, 46 sections, 523 standards, and 1,599 assessment criteria calibrated to hospital practice. Both documents coexisted within the Turkish health system at the time of this analysis: TS ISO 7101:2023 was adopted by the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) in November 2023, while SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 has been in use since its publication in 2021. Despite the potential relevance of both frameworks to hospital quality governance, to the author’s knowledge, no published study has systematically compared the structural and thematic alignment of ISO 7101:2023 and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1. This study aimed to examine the degree and nature of correspondence between ISO 7101:2023 and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 across a comprehensive set of hospital quality management domains. Methods: A qualitative document analysis with structured comparative mapping was conducted using the primary texts of ISO 7101:2023 (accessed as TS ISO 7101:2023) and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1. Fourteen analytical dimensions were specified a priori, covering organisational context, leadership and governance, quality planning, patient/person-centred care, patient safety and risk management, workforce competence, clinical and service delivery processes, information management, resource and infrastructure management, external provider management, performance measurement, incident reporting and learning, continuous improvement, and accessibility and equity. A seven-category coding scheme was applied to each dimension: Full Convergence (FC), Partial Convergence (PC), ISO-Dominant Management System Emphasis (ISO-D), SKS-Dominant Operational Specificity (SKS-D), Complementarity (COMP), Limited Explicit Correspondence (LEC), and No Direct Correspondence (NDC). Coding categories are analytical, not evaluative. Standard-level verification extending to confirmed standard codes and assessment-criteria-level content was conducted for five dimensions (D2, D3, D5, D8, D11). ISO 7101:2023 text is paraphrased with clause references; the document is copyrighted and is not extensively quoted. Results: Thirteen of the fourteen analytical dimensions were classified as Partial Convergence (PC). Dimension 7 (Clinical and Service Delivery Processes) was classified as Complementarity (COMP). No dimension was classified as Full Convergence or No Direct Correspondence. The Partial Convergence pattern reflects shared quality management intent across all domains, accompanied by systematic differences in documentary logic, prescriptive specificity, and regulatory mechanism. ISO 7101:2023 addresses quality domains through normative “shall” obligations within a harmonised management system architecture, leaving implementation methods to the organisation. SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 addresses the same domains through prescriptive, surveyable hospital standards and assessment criteria. Standard-level verification confirmed operationally specific requirements in SKS across governance committee structures (KKY06-10), risk management (KRY01-05), patient safety (KKY07), information system security and backup (DBY05, DBY10, DBY13), indicator management (GGİ01–07), and national performance reporting. Several ISO constructs — including formal change management planning (Cl. 6.3), risk awareness culture monitoring (Cl. 6.1.2), structured internal audit with independence criteria (Cl. 9.2), and eleven-input management review (Cl. 9.3) — were not confirmed as single equivalent standards in the verified SKS sections. Conclusions: ISO 7101:2023 and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 show broad thematic overlap across hospital quality domains. SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 provides an operationally specific, nationally calibrated quality infrastructure for hospitals in Türkiye. ISO 7101:2023 provides a complementary management-system architecture that may supplement SKS’s operational standards with structural constructs for leadership accountability, quality objective documentation, change management planning, and cyclical system evaluation. The two frameworks are better characterised as potentially complementary than as competing. These findings are based on document-level analysis and cannot be interpreted as evidence of implementation effectiveness. Empirical research is needed to assess how the frameworks interact in hospital practice and to determine what benefits, if any, alignment may offer for hospital quality governance in Türkiye.

Arik, Kaan; Agdas, Mehmet T.; Korkmaz, Adem; Kosunalp, Selahattin; Iliev, Teodor

Viral infections, especially those of the poxvirus family, present significant diagnostic challenges due to their similar clinical symptoms. This study proposes an innovative deep learning-based approach to classify six categories of poxvirus-related skin diseases: chickenpox, cowpox, healthy, measles, monkeypox, and smallpox. A dataset of 9,120 augmented images was used to train, validate, and test three advanced deep-learning models-YOLOv8, YOLOv5, and ResNet32. Among the models, YOLOv8 demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 99.80%, precision of 99.28%, and recall of 99.14%, significantly outperforming YOLOv5 and ResNet32. The results underscore the potential of YOLOv8 in medical image analysis, providing a robust and efficient tool for the early detection and accurate classification of viral skin diseases. Comparisons with related studies highlight the effectiveness of the proposed approach, making it a state-of-the-art solution for improving diagnostic accuracy in healthcare. Future work will focus on extending the dataset and evaluating the model's applicability in real-time clinical environments.

YOLOv8 for Road DamageRecognition: Deep Learning-Based Segmentation and Detection System

    Agdas, Mehmet Tevfik; Arik, Kaan

Road surface detection is critical for improving traffic safety and reducing road maintenance costs. Because traditional methods are time-consuming and costly, deep learning-based image processing techniques offer an important alternative in this field. This study aims to develop a model that automates the detection and segmentation of road surface defects such as potholes, manhole covers, and culverts using deep-learning-based image processing techniques. In this study, a dataset previously used in the literature was preferred. It was observed that object detection was performed using a dataset from the literature. In this study, both object detection and object segmentation were performed using different parameters. To prove the success of object segmentation, both object detection and segmentation were performed using the YOLOv8 algorithm, which has previously obtained successful results. AdamW optimization and Auto Batch parameters were selected for this study. With these parameters, object detection was first performed with the YOLOv8s model, which is one of the variances of the YOLOv8 algorithm with the most successful results in the literature, and a successful 92.8% mAP@50 performance value was obtained according to the sources in the literature. In this study, the YOLOv8n, YOLOv8s, YOLOv8m, and YOLOv8l variance models of the YOLOv8 algorithm were used with the preferred parameters, and segmentation was performed. In object segmentation, a map@50 performance value of 90.9% in all classes and 99.1% in culverts was obtained using the YOLOv8l model. A map@50 performance value of 89.1% for pothole segmentation and 88% for manhole cover segmentation was obtained using the YOLOv8s model. The results of the analyses showed consistency in precision and recall values. These findings contribute significantly to improving road safety, reducing maintenance costs, and supporting sustainable urban infrastructure. Future research could explore integrating multiple data sources and adapt these models to more complex road conditions.

Protective effect of Momordica charantia against Hepatorenal toxicity induced by Potassium bromate (KBrO3) in rats; [Efecto protector de Momordica charantia contra la toxicidad hepatorrenal inducida por el bromato de potasio (KBrO3) en ratas]

Karagözoğlu, Fatma; Uyar, Ahmet; Akkoyun, Hurrem Turan; Altun, Serdar; Akkoyun, Mahire Bayramoğlu; Aydin, Sevinç; Melek, Sule; Bengü, Aydın Şükrü; Ekin, Suat; Bakir, Ahmet

This study aims to evaluate the effects of Momordica charantia on hepatorenal toxicity caused by potassium bromate (KBrO3) in rats. Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups as control, KBrO3, bitter melon (MC), and KBrO3+MC. Examining the antioxidant enzyme grade of the kidney tissues, it was found that the enzyme activities of catalase (CAT) (P<0.05), glutathione peroxidase (GSH–Px) (P<0.01), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) (P<0.01) decreased in the KBrO3 group in comparison to the control. There was a significant decrease (P<0.001) in glutathione (GSH) levels and an increase (P<0.01) in malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the KBrO3 group in comparison to the control. Examining the antioxidant enzyme activities in liver tissue, it was determined that CAT, GSH–Px, and SOD enzymes reduced significantly (P<0.05, P<0.01, and P<0.001, respectively) in the KBrO3 group in comparison to the control, and the enzyme activity of decreased CAT, GSH–Px, and SOD enzymes significantly elevated (P<0.01) in the MC group. There was a reduction in GSH level in the KBrO3 group in comparison to the control (P<0.01), while an increase was recorded in the KBrO3+MC group (P<0.05). MDA level in liver tissue increased in KBrO3 group in comparison to the control (P<0.01) and MC decreased the MDA level. Histopathological analysis results indicate severe degenerative and necrotic lesions in hepatorenal histoarchitecture of KBrO3 rats in comparison to the control. However, application of MC+KBrO3 significantly reduced the induced hepatorenal injury with a concomitant increase in histopathological lesions. From the immunohistochemical aspect, MC revealed apoptosis concomitant with the suppression of necrosis in the KBrO3-treated rats as demonstrated by the caspase-3 activity.

Effect of Amount of Guidance in Inquiry-Based Physics Laboratory on Conceptual Understanding and Metacognitive Awareness

Peşman, Haki; Arı, Üzeyir; Cirit, Didem Karakaya; Ayazgök, Büşra

This study explores the influences of verification and guided inquiry-based physics laboratories on preservice science teachers’ conceptual understanding of and misconceptions about simple electric circuits and their metacognitive awareness. In other words, the impact of the amount of guidance in inquiry teaching is being explored. There were two groups: (1) the experimental group, where the guided inquiry was implemented, and (2) the control group, where the verification style inquiry was implemented. The experiment was a true-experimental design because 55 pre-service science teachers were randomly assigned to the groups. This study used two pretest and posttest instruments: (1) Simple Electric Circuit Diagnostic Test (SECDT) with 11 items and (2) Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) with 52 items. The SECDT is a three-tier test to assess conceptual understanding and misconceptions of students about simple electric circuits, while the MAI assesses the metacognitive awareness of adults. The authors utilized a doubly multivariate repeated measures design, a multivariate test statistic for repeated measures, for analyzing the data. As a result, this study presents evidence of the positive effect of a guided inquiry-based physics laboratory concerning the verification-based one on preservice science teachers’ conceptual understanding of simple electric circuits and their metacognitive awareness and presents conclusions based on the discussion.
