- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2An integrated process for rare earth elements recovery and silica production from Turkish bauxite-related ores
Uysal, Turan; Erüst, Ceren; Erdemoglu, Murat; Sis, Hikmet
The evaluation of bauxite-associated shales as a secondary source of rare earth elements (REEs) is strategically important for securing a sustainable supply of critical raw materials used in advanced technologies. In this study, shale ore associated with bauxite, unsuitable for aluminium production due to its high silica content, was investigated as a potential resource for valuable REEs. The effect of thermal activation on REE recovery was examined, and the potential use of the leach residue as a silica source was assessed. Based on acid leaching results, the optimum calcination temperature was identified as 700 degrees C. Under these conditions, high REE recoveries were achieved: 92.9% La, 89.9% Ce, 89.0% Pr, 88.7% Nd, and 73.0% Sm. After leaching, the residue was enriched in alumina and silica. To improve silica purity and recover remaining REEs and Al, a second-stage leaching process was applied. This resulted in a byproduct containing 55% SiO2 with a specific surface area of 48 m2 g-1, indicating its potential as a silica source. The results demonstrate that bauxite-associated shale can be sustainably valorised through intensive milling, calcination, and acid leaching, enabling efficient REE recovery and the production of a silica-rich byproduct. This study used 80% ammonium sulphate fractional precipitation, followed by affinity chromatography to purify a new lectin (AVL) from the crude extract of the Amanita vaginata mushroom. The purification procedure achieved a 20% yield, a specific activity of 5120 HU/mg protein, and a 16-fold increase in purity. SDS-PAGE analysis showed a single band of 45 kDa. We assessed AVL's anti-inflammatory effect by measuring levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Western blot analysis showed that iNOS and COX-2 protein levels were barely detectable in the control groups, but markedly elevated in the LPS-treated groups. However, AVL treatment significantly inhibited the expression of both iNOS and COX-2 in LPS-stimulated cells. This effect was dose-dependent. These findings suggest that AVL's anti-inflammatory effects are mediated through the suppression of iNOS and COX-2 expression.

Li, Zixiang; Çil, Zeynel Abidin; Mete, Suleyman; Kucukkoc, Ibrahim
In recent years, the interests of disassembly line have increased owing to economic reasons and the increase of environmental awareness. Effective line can provide many advantages in terms of economic aspect and it facilitates competition the companies with others. This study contributes to the relevant literature by a branch, bound and remember algorithm for disassembly line balancing problem with AND/OR precedence. The proposed exact solution method employs the memory-based dominance rule to eliminate the reduplicated sub-problems by storing all the searched sub-problems and to utilise cyclic best-first search strategy to obtain high-quality complete solutions fast. In this paper, minimising the number of stations is taken as the performance measure. The proposed methodology is tested on a set of 260 instances and compared with the mathematical model using CPLEX solver and five well-known metaheuristics. Computational results show that the proposed method is capable of obtaining the optimal solutions for all the tested instances with less than 0.1 seconds on average. Additionally, comparative study demonstrates that the proposed method is the state-of-the-art algorithm and outperforms the CPLEX solver and metaheuristics in terms of both solution quality and search speed aspects.

The Apiaceae family includes a few agronomic and medicinal species, one of which is Scaligeria lazica Boiss. In this study, the genetic diversity of S. lazica was analyzed based on novel simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers using next-generation sequencing (NGS). A total of 15.17G clean Illumina data set was obtained and dinucleotide repeats were the most abundant repeats in S. lazica. Of the tested 150 SSR primer pairs, 139 ones produced amplification and 84 ones were polymorphic. Forty polymorphic SSR loci were used in genetic diversity analysis of 40 S. lazica accessions from four locations. A total of 264 alleles were amplified with an average of 6.6 alleles per locus. The polymorphism information content (PIC) was 0.60, while the observed homozygosity (Ho) and expected heterozygosity (He) values were 0.47 and 0.66, respectively. According to cluster and structure analysis, all accessions were grouped into four different clusters according to their collection sites. The SSR markers developed in this study can be tested for other Scaligeria species due to their high transferability and can be used for genetic studies in genus Scaligeria DC.

- MakaleYalnız künye2016Scopus SJRQ3Combined effects of physicochemical variables (pH and salinity) on sperm motility: characterization of sperm motility in European sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax
Ögretmen, F.; Inanan, B. E.; Kutluyer, F.
Gamete activation in fish is an important step in terms of artificial fertilization of oocytes, cryopreservation studies and other experimental manipulations. Salinity and pH differences in activation media affect to sperm motility and fertilizing ability. These experiments were therefore designed to investigate the combined effects of pH (range 5.0-9.0) and salinity (20, 30, 37, and 45 parts per thousand) of activation media on sperm motility of European sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax. The best results were obtained at salinity 37 parts per thousand and a pH of 9.0. Our results also demonstrated that non-progressive motility at salinity 45 parts per thousand was observed in the range of 5.0-9.0 pH. In conclusion, spermatozoa can be motile at a wide range of pH and salinity values although the percent of motile spermatozoa and motility duration are negatively affected by low pH values.

Yilmaz, D.; Sabre, M.; Lassabatère, L.; Dal, M.; Rodriguez, F.
Green roofs are promising urban management tools from the standpoint of both rainwater management and microclimatology. They are considered as a storm water mitigation technique and may also favour evapotranspiration fluxes, which can be beneficial for urban comfort during summer periods. In France, however, water retention performance of green roofs remains unknown, and published values are often unsuitable. Six experimental roofs, including two thicknesses of growing media, three types of vegetation cover and bare surfaces, were monitored for two years in Nantes and compared to an experimental gravel flat roof. The thickest media combined with the most densely vegetated cover yields the best results in terms of storm water mitigation and actual evapotranspiration. In winter, the rainwater retention performance is clearly dependent on the type of experimental roof vegetation. This kind of experimental set-up is well suited to assisting urban planners design tools for storm water mitigation in buildings.

This manuscript focuses on the new wave behaviors of the system of equations for the ion sound wave under the action of the ponderomotive force which results from a nonlinear force that a charged particle experiences in an inhomogeneous oscillating electromagnetic field due to high-frequency field. The sine-Gordon expansion method which is one of the powerful methods has been considered for finding traveling wave solutions of the system of equations for the ion sound wave under the pressure of the Langmuir wave. This algorithm yields new complex hyperbolic function solutions to the system considered in this paper. Wolfram Mathematica 9 has been successfully used throughout the paper for mathematical calculations.

The aim of our research was to explore the most cost-efficient and optimal medium composition for the production of lipase from Pseudomonas fluorescens (NRLL B-2641) culture grown on sunflower oil cake (SuOC) by applying response surface methodology (RSM). The oil cake was used instead of carbon sources. Peptone, ammonium sulphate and the carbon source (SuOC) were the most important factors as it is obligatory for microbial growth. Subsequently, the optimum values for the carbon source, peptone and ammonium sulphate were found to be 11.10% (w/v), 1.18% (w/v) and 0.83% (w/v), respectively. Experiments carried out under optimum conditions revealed a maximum lipase activity of 10.8 U mL(-1), which was achieved after 48 h of fermentation. The obtained results were finally verified with batch experiments carried out under the optimum conditions evaluated and it was demonstrated that the SuOC from agro-industrial residue as substrates can be used as an inexpensive base (carbon source) for the production of lipase by P. fluorescens (NRLL B-2641).

Gentamicin is commonly used against gram-negative microorganisms. Its therapeutic use is mainly limited by nephrotoxicity. This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of rutin on oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and autophagy in gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The rats were treated with saline intraperitoneally (group I), 150 mg/kg of rutin orally (group II), 80 mg/kg of gentamicin intraperitoneally for 8 d (group III), or 150 mg/kg of rutin plus 80 mg/kg of gentamicin (group IV). The serum urea, creatinine, kidney malondialdehyde (MDA), and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity and protein concentration were measured, and renal histopathology analysis and immunohistochemical staining were performed. Rutin pretreatment attenuated nephrotoxicity induced by gentamicin by reducing the urea, creatinine, and MDA levels and increasing the SOD, CAT, and GPx activity, and the GSH levels. The rutin also inhibited inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cleaved caspase-3 and light chain 3B (LC3B), as evidenced by immunohistochemical staining. The present study demonstrates that rutin exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and anti-autophagic effects and that it attenuates gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats.

In this study, the load-carrying capacity of a single-lap joint bonded by an adhesive was determined experimentally. Glass fiber-epoxy composite material was chosen as adherends and Loctite (R) 9466 A&B2 was used as adhesive. The vacuum assisted resin infusion method (VARIM) was used to manufacture composites. In this experimental study, the effects of hole drilling and temperature were investigated. Five hole configurations and three temperatures (room temperature, 50 degrees C, and 80 degrees C) were considered. The results show that hole drilling elevate the failure load and when the temperature increases the load-carrying capacity decreases.

Koluman, Ahmet; Dikici, Abdullah
Emerging foodborne pathogens are challenging subjects of food microbiology with their antibiotic resistance and their impact on public health. Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella spp. and Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) are significant emerging food pathogens, globally. The decrease in supply and increase in demand lead developed countries to produce animal products with a higher efficiency. The massive production has caused the increase of the significant foodborne diseases. The strict control of food starting from farm to fork has been held by different regulations. Official measures have been applied to combat these pathogens. In 2005 EU declared that, an EU-wide ban on the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in animal feed would be applied on 1 January 2006. The ban is the final step in the phasing out of antibiotics used for non-medical purposes. It is a part of the Commission's strategy to tackle the emergence of bacteria and other microbes resistant to antibiotics, due to their overexploitation or misuse. As the awareness raises more countries banned application of antibiotics as growth promoter, but the resistance of the emerging foodborne pathogens do not represent decrease. Currently, the main concern of food safety is counter measures against resistant bugs.

Five cyanide complexes, [Ni(N-bishydeten)Pd(CN)(4)] (1), [Cu(N-bishydeten)Pd(-CN)(2)(CN)(2)](n) (2), [Cu(N-bishydeten)(2)][Pd(CN)(4)] (3), [Zn(N-bishydeten)Pd(CN)(4)] (4), and [Cd(N-bishydeten)(2)][Pd(CN)(4)] (5) (N-bishydeten = N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine), have been synthesized and characterized using various techniques. Different structures were formed when the M:L ratio was varied in copper complexes. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 2, a 1-D cyanide-bridged complex with 2,2-CT-type zigzag chain, was obtained by using 1:1M:L ratio whereas 3 was formed as a complex salt in a molar ratio of 1:2. The thermal stabilities determined from DTG(max) values of the first decomposition stages change in the order 1>5>4>3>2. Although an EPR signal was not observed for 1, the g parameters obtained from the EPR spectra of 2 and 3 indicate that Cu-II ions are located in tetragonally distorted octahedral sites (D-4h), and the ground state of the unpaired electron is (B-2(1g)). The magnetic behavior indicates a very small antiferromagnetic interaction below 10K for 1-3. In 3, there is a temperature-independent paramagnetism () due to the orbital moments of the d electrons. 1-3 were tested as catalysts in Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions.
