Kilic, G.; Ilik, E.; Kavaz, E.; Durmus, Hasan; Güler, Ömer; Birdogan, Selcuk; ALMisned, Ghada; Tekin, H.O.
This study investigates the incorporation of Pr6O11 nanoparticles into lithium borotellurite glass matrices to enhance their mechanical and radiation shielding properties. Glass compositions, synthesized with varying Pr6O11 concentrations from 0 to 8 mol%, exhibited increasing densities from 4.00783 g cm−3 to 4.94440 g cm−3 and reduced molar volumes, confirming nanoparticle-induced densification. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed amorphous structures with shifts in the hollow band indicating compact network rearrangements. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analyses confirmed homogeneous Pr distribution up to 6 mol%, with clustering observed in 8 mol% samples. Vickers’ microhardness values progressively increased, highlighting enhanced mechanical strength due to reduced non-bridging oxygen ions and network cross-linking. Gamma-ray shielding experiments demonstrated superior performance of the 8 mol% sample (Pr8), with the highest mass attenuation coefficients, effective atomic number, and reduced half-value layer. Neutron attenuation assessments further confirmed improved shielding capabilities, with Pr8 achieving the highest effective removal cross-section. In conclusion, Pr6O11-doped lithium borotellurite glasses demonstrate significant potential for advanced radiation shielding applications.

Özcan, Gizem Nur; Akar, Tuba
This study discusses the illumination of cultural assets, a live topic worldwide. While any kind of lighting demands expertise, the situation becomes more sensitive in historical building lighting. The necessity of this study is due to the inadequacy of design approaches for historical building lighting, which is becoming increasingly widespread in Türkiye. Lighting examples in the world and in Türkiye are examined and positive-negative aspects identified. The examples are evaluated in terms of various criteria such as illuminance levels, colour, accents, visual order, and architectural suitability, and the necessary criteria for lighting design were established. Based on the theoretical background of the study, a lighting design process has been defined for Kızkalesi. The lighting design proposal was developed not only for touristic and architectural purposes, but also in line with basic principles such as increasing the night visibility of the cultural asset, revealing the values of the structure, and taking into account ecological sensitivities, environmental management, and light pollution. It is thought that this plan, which defines how the process should be handled from beginning to end and which experts and actors should guide the process, can also be helpful in the illumination process of other historical buildings.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Effect of Tungsten Content on the Microstructure, Mechanical and Tribological Properties of AlCoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloys
Bahceci, Ersin; Gul, Ali Oktay; Basgoz Orhan, Oykum; Kumruoglu, Levent Cenk; Guler, Omer
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have recently attracted considerable attention due to their unique combination of high strength, hardness, and corrosion and wear resistance, making them promising candidates for advanced structural and functional applications. Among these, AlCoCrFeNi-based HEAs are well known for their high hardness and good wear resistance; however, their limited tribological stability under operational conditions restricts their broader application. To address this limitation, tungsten (W) was incorporated into the AlCoCrFeNi system to enhance its mechanical and tribological performance. In this study, the microstructural, mechanical, and tribological properties of AlCoCrFeNiWx (x = 0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mol) HEAs were systematically investigated. The alloys were fabricated using the vacuum arc melting method and characterized by XRD, SEM-EDS, elemental mapping, microhardness, and wear tests. The addition of W caused a shift in the 2θ ≈ 44° (110) peak toward lower angles. While the W-free alloy exhibited Body-Centered Cubic (BCC) + B2 phases, W addition led to the formation of a new W-rich phase, and at higher W contents, a pure W phase appeared. The hardness increased from 507.11 HV1 to 651.81 HV1 with increasing W content. Furthermore, wear resistance improved and the coefficient of friction decreased with higher W addition. When comparing the W-free alloy to the alloy with the highest W content, the wear rate decreased by approximately 1.85 times under a 2 N load and 1.89 times under a 5 N load. These results demonstrate that W addition significantly enhances the wear resistance of AlCoCrFeNi-based HEAs by nearly twofold.

High entropy alloys (HEAs) are innovative materials combining multiple principal elements, known for their exceptional properties and wide-ranging applications. This study assesses the gamma-ray shielding capacity of twelve boron-based HEAs through advanced computational methods. Key parameters in terms of understanding the material's ability to reduce radiation intensity, specifically half-value layer (HVL) and tenth-value layer (TVL); its capacity to absorb or scatter photons, including mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) and linear attenuation coefficient (LAC); and other related factors such as equivalent atomic number (Zeq), effective atomic number (Zeff), effective electron density (Neff), mean free path (MFP), and fast neutron removal cross-section (FNRCS) were calculated for photon energies between 0.015 and 15 MeV using the computational method Phy-X/PSD (Photon Shielding and Dosimetry). Additionally, the interaction of alpha particles and protons with these alloys was assessed by calculating energy deposition KERMA (Kinetic Energy Released per Unit Mass) and mass stopping power (MSP) using PAGEX (interaction of protons, alpha, gamma rays, electrons, and X-rays with matter) software, while SRIM (Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter) was employed to estimate particle penetration depths. Electron interactions were evaluated using ESTAR (Stopping Power and Range Tables for Electrons) for stopping power and penetration depth. Among the alloys, Sample 10, S10, (Zr10.8%-Hf21.3%-Nb11.0%-Ta21.6%-W22.0%-B13.1%) exhibited efficient shielding properties due to its high density and interaction characteristics. It can be concluded that boron-based HEAs with optimized compositions and high densities demonstrate significant potential for advanced radiation protection applications.

The commercial aquaculture of seurukan fish (Osteochilus jeruk) is common in Indonesia; however, seed availability from the wild is limited. Therefore, induced breeding technology in seurukan fish using synthetic reproductive hormones is crucial. This study evaluated the efficacy of five different types of synthetic reproductive hormones and their corresponding doses on the reproductive performance of seurukan fish in captivity. The methodology consisted of two experiments; first, four types of synthetic reproductive hormones were tested: ovaprim, ovaspec, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), and ovalumon. Second, several doses of ovaprim hormone were stested with doses of 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.0 ml kg-1 body weight. The results showed that ovaprim, ovaspec, and HCG successfully induced ovulation and spawning in seurukan fish. The hormones significantly affected the latency period, number of eggs released, fertilization, and survival rates (P<0.05), but did not significantly affect the hatching rate and survival of larvae (P>0.05). Ovaprim produced better egg quality compared to ovaspec and HCG. In the second experiment, the results showed a significant difference in the latency period and egg size (P<0.05) of fish treated with varying doses of ovaprim hormone. The hormone doses did not significantly affect the number of eggs, hatching rate, fertilization rate, survival rate, or larval survival (P > 0.05). The dose of 0.5 ml kg-1 BW of ovaprim produced the best results. Therefore, a dose of 0.5 ml kg-1 BW was recommended as an effective dose for induced spawning and seed production of seurukan fish.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2A novel additive for enhancing biomass energy production from agro-industrial wastes: synthesis of hydrophobic nanoporous silica aerogel and its effect on methane production
Gulsen Akbay, Habibe Elif; Basgoz, Oykum; Guler, Omer
Anaerobic digestion (AD) is one of the most preferred processes for the treatment of organic waste. However, additional processes such as co-digestion, pretreatment, and additive addition continue to be explored to remove the limits on the applicability of AD. This study investigated the effects of hydrophobic nanoporous silica aerogel (NpSA) synthesized from waste rice husks on the anaerobic co-digestion (AnCD) of the mixture consisting of sewage sludge and fruit processing industry wastes. All bioreactors containing NpSA-free, 0.1 g, 0.2 g, 0.5 g, and 1 g NpSA (0.03–0.3 gNpSA/gVSadded) were operated in a mesophilic-batch process. Biogas and methane yields increased from 346 mL/gVS (NpSA-free) to 387 mL/gVS and from 231 mL/gVS (NpSA-free) to 288 mL/gVS, respectively, with 0.1 g NpSA addition. NpSA additive increased biogas production in all bioreactors compared to the blank. However, biogas production rate and methane content increased faster at lower doses of NpSA. Maximum soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD), protein, carbohydrate, and volatile solid (VS) reductions were between 45–71%, 35–54%, 44–65%, and 34–91% for NpSA added mixtures, respectively. The hydrophobic NpSA additive was effective in improving the AnCD performance and biogas/methane production. Experimental results fit the kinetic models frequently preferred in such AD processes. In addition, the possible energy and financial potential of the produced methane were also discussed, and it was determined that the direct sale of methane gas produced by the addition of NpSA in the global market could provide 1.4 $/Lmixture more financial gain than the mixture NpSA-free.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal malignancies, characterized by limited therapeutic options and poor prognosis. This study investigated the anticancer effects of Dianthus orientalis extracts on pancreatic cancer cell lines (Panc-1 and BxPC-3) with a focus on apoptosis, invasion, and metastasis-related pathways. Chemical analysis using HPLC-MS/MS identified bioactive compounds (vanillic acid, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid, quercetin, hyperoxide) known for their anticancer properties. The Inhibitory Concentration 50 (IC50) value, which is half maximal inhibitory concentration of cancer cells, was determined to be 250 μg/mL at 48 h, and significantly induced apoptosis by decreasing anti-apoptotic gene expressions (Bcl-XL and Bcl-2) and increasing pro-apoptotic gene expressions (Casp3 and Bax) particularly in the Panc-1 cell line. Flow cytometric analysis revealed approximately 55% apoptosis in both cell lines. Molecular docking and dynamics analyses demonstrated strong binding affinities of quercetin and hyperoxide with important cancer-related proteins, including CHEK2 and PALB2. Gene expression analysis demonstrated the upregulation of pro-apoptotic markers like Bax and Casp3, and selective modulation of metastasis-related genes such as SNAI1, PALB2, and CHEK2. The findings highlight the potential of D. orientalis to modulate DNA repair mechanisms and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) pathways. Furthermore, network pharmacology and in silico tools corroborated its interactions with critical signaling pathways in cancer progression, including PI3K-Akt and MAPK. The study provides the first comprehensive evidence of D. orientalis's antiproliferative through apoptosis induction on pancreatic cancer cell lines, laying the groundwork for future therapeutic applications.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Patterns and Predictors of Nurse Turnover Intentions Based on Years of Nursing Experience: A Cluster Analysis Approach
Baris, Veysel Karani; Yesiltepe, Akgun; Celik, Gulbahar
Aim: To identify patterns and predictors of nurse turnover intentions based on years of nursing experience using a cluster analysis approach. Background: Nurses with varying years of experience have different characteristics. These differences can also lead to distinct patterns and predictors of turnover intentions. Methods: For this descriptive study, 785 nurses from hospitals across different regions of Türkiye participated in a survey. Data was collected through online questionnaires between April and May 2022. The K-means unsupervised machine learning algorithm was employed to classify nurses into distinct clusters based on their experience. Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to identify the predictors of turnover intention specific to each cluster. The STROBE guideline was followed for reporting. Results: Cluster analysis grouped nurses into three categories by experience level: low, medium and high. The medium-experience group had the highest turnover intention, whereas the high-experience group had the lowest. Work stress was the only common predictor across all groups. Low income predicted turnover only for the low-experience group, and gender was significant only for the medium-experience group. Conclusion: This study revealed that turnover intention and its predictors vary by experience level, indicating a need for retention strategies tailored to nurses' years of experience. By considering subgroup characteristics, policymakers can develop targeted interventions to enhance nurse retention.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Mechanical, durability and microstructure properties of eco-friendly self-compacting mortars with addition of volcanic scoria, silica fume and boron waste as cement replacement
Şahin Yön, Merve
The objective of this experimental study is to investigate the mechanical and durability performances of self-compacting mortars containing industrial waste and natural stone to develop an environmentally friendly mortar. Binary series of boron waste (B), silica fume (S) and volcanic scoria (V) were formed by substituting up to 95 % by weight with Portland cement, and ternary series were formed by substituting up to 80 % by weight with Portland cement. A total of 14 mixtures and one reference mixture (R) were improved for the purpose of investigating the workability, mechanical strength and durability properties of self-compacting mortar with different binder compositions. Samples of 40x40x160 mm were produced to evaluate mechanical properties and freeze-thaw effect, 100x100x100 mm for abrasion testing and 50x50x50 mm to determine physical properties. Additionally, SEM/EDS and XRD analyses were performed to determine the microstructural characteristics of the mixtures formed. The test results demonstrated that the sole replacement of boron waste with Portland cement resulted in enhanced fluidity. Nonetheless, the 90-day compressive strengths of the S10V20 and B5S10V5 mixtures exhibited increases of 7.47 % and 5.57 %, respectively, relative to the reference, whilst the B15 series saw a 52.5 % reduction, marking the lowest 90-day compressive strength compared to the reference sample. When the freeze-thaw effect was assessed after 136 cycles, the compressive strength diminished by 8.57 %, 13.1 %, 4.13 %, 7.28 %, 6.22 %, 24.77 %, and 48.1 % in the R, B5, V5, V10, V15, B5S10V5, B5S10V10, and B5S10V15 samples, respectively. Among the samples subjected to abrasion tests, a loss of 6.5 per thousand occurred in the mass of the reference sample at the end of 6 minutes, while a loss of 11 per thousand occurred in the binary mixture containing 5 % B, which had the highest abrasion.

Aslan, Naim; Aksakal, Bünyamin; Cihangir, Salih; Fidan, Ferzan; Yilmazer, Yasemin
Lightweight and functional metallic materials are consistently favored and attract significant attention in the biomedical field. This study investigates the influence of ZrN and DLC coatings on Ti6Al4V scaffolds with varying porosities (40%, 50%, 60%) for biomedical applications. PVD-deposited coatings exhibited distinct growth mechanisms: High-resolution SEM-FIB analyses revealed columnar ZrN structures due to limited adatom mobility, while DLC formed conformal, amorphous layers via high-energy carbon species. Corrosion resistance decreased in 40% porous DLC and 60% porous ZrN-coated samples, likely due to coating defects and increased electrolyte access through open pores. ZrN coatings showed superior antibacterial activity and attributed to surface reactivity and potential ion release. In contrast, the uncoated 60% porous scaffolds demonstrated highest cell viability, suggesting that excessive coating on highly porous structures may hinder cell–material interactions. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity evaluations indicated that uncoated scaffolds exhibited the highest cell viability (77.51%) at 60% porosity after 48 hours, with ZrN coatings demonstrating better efficacy compared to DLC in the 50% and 60% porosity groups.

Yılmaz, Demet; Pekdemir, Mustafa Ersin; Dik, Gamze; Selçuk Pekdemir, Sibel; Ulu, Ahmet; Taşgın, Yahya; Ateş, Burhan
In this work, irradiation resistance, thermal, and structural characteristics of Bi2O3-reinforced poly ε-caprolactone/chitosan composites for nuclear shielding applications were studied. PCL/CTS/Bi2O3 composite films were prepared by using different amounts of Bi2O3 (0.5%–4.0% (w/v)). The radiation shielding parameters of the synthesized composite films were both experimentally and theoretically measured at the high energy region. The equivalent dose rates of the prepared film samples were measured using a fast neutron source. Also, to determine the irradiation resistance, the samples were irradiated with Am-241 and Co-60 sources for 30 days. The MFP values at 80.99 keV changed by approximately 61% in samples PCL/CTS and PCL/CTS/4% Bi2O3. The results show that Bi2O3 content increases the gamma shielding abilities in PCL/CTS films. According to TGA results, the thermal stability of the polymer composite films is increased by the addition of Bi2O3 to the PCL/CTS blend film. The results show that PCL/CTS composite materials can be used as protective coating materials for nuclear shielding. Highlights: PCL/CTS/Bi2O3 composite films were prepared by the solvent casting method. The thermal stability of the composite films increased by increasing the Bi2O3 amount. Bi2O3 increased the LAC and MAC values of the composite films. PCL/CTS/Bi2O3 composite films have a neutron shielding effect.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Species classification of microalgae using a CNN-based deep learning approach under optimal cultivation conditions
Simsek, Gokce Kendirlioglu; Ertargin, Merve; Pezzolesi, Laura; Pistocchi, Rossella; Yildirim, Ozal; Cetin, A. Kadri
Microalgae possess significant potential in a wide range of applications due to their valuable bioactive compounds. They are utilized in biofuel production to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, in wastewater treatment for the biological removal of heavy metals and pollutants, in carbon capture for mitigating climate change, and in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries as supplements. As their applications expand, the accurate and efficient identification of microalgal species becomes increasingly important. Traditional classification methods are time-consuming and rely heavily on expert knowledge. The main aim of this study is to develop a reliable, fast, and expert-independent deep learning-based approach for the classification of microalgae species using microscopic images. In this context, deep learning techniques, specifically convolutional neural network (CNN)-based models were employed to classify microalgal species. Four widely used pre-trained CNN architectures (ResNet152, DenseNet201, MobileNetV2, and EfficientNetB0), along with a custom-designed CNN, were implemented. The models were trained and tested on a labeled dataset consisting of microscopic images of Chlorella vulgaris, Scenedesmus acutus, and Haematococcus pluvialis. The classification models achieved accuracy rates ranging from 96.87 % (Custom CNN) to 100 % (DenseNet201), demonstrating the potential of CNN-based approaches in automating and improving microalgae species identification.

The jades from Ulucak Höyük (İzmir, Turkey) are green-colored in hand specimen, and combined petrographic, XRD, and whole-rock analyses indicate that they mainly comprise jadeitic clinopyroxene, characterizing them as jadeite-bearing jades. Primitive mantle (PM)-normalized multi-element patterns reveal two distinct chemical groups. Both groups display depletion in Th and U; however, Group 1 shows a narrower elemental range and marked positive Pb anomaly. The second group, on the other hand, displays a wide elemental range in most elements and strong negative anomalies in Zr and Hf ([Nd/Zr]PM = 1.6–4.2; [Sm/Hf]PM = 1.8–3.5). Regarding REE systematics, both groups are characterized by weak positive slopes ([La/Yb]Ch = 1.7–5.3). However, whereas Group 1 shows coherent LREE-enriched trends, Group 2 displays flat- to LREE-enriched patterns with a wide range in Eu. When the geochemical features of Ulucak jades are compared with the high-pressure (HP) metamorphic rocks from Turkey and Greece, the similar multi-element patterns of Syros eclogites (Greece) to Group 2 Ulucak jades make Syros a possible source area for the Ulucak artefacts. On the other hand, the geochemical resemblance of the Sifnos jadeite-bearing gneisses to Group 1 Ulucak jades may raise the possibility of this island being another source for the Ulucak jades.

İpek, Yeliz.; Koçak, Berna; Keçeci, Ali
In this study, an economical, environmentally friendly, sensitive, selective, and rapid voltammetric quantitative analysis method was developed using a boron doped diamond electrode to determine lactic acid (LA). Two linear working ranges were determined for LA determination in phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH of 2). The first linear working range (LR1) was between concentrations of 1.5 × 10−6–8 × 10−6 mol· L−1, with a detection limit of 1.3 × 10−6 mol·L−1, and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was found to be 4.4 µmol· L−1. The second linear working range (LR2) was determined in the concentration range of 8.0–89.2 µmol·L−1. LOD was calculated as 15.8 µmol·L−1, and the LOQ value was calculated as 52.6 µmol·L−1 in the LR2. Intraday repeatability of the BDD electrode for LA determination was (RSD) 6.8% in LR1 and 11.8% in LR2. The interday repeatabilities of the BDD electrode in LR1 and LR2 were calculated as 7.7% and 4.7%, respectively. The developed electrochemical sensor was successfully applied for the determination of LA in milk sample. The sensor exhibited a short response time of about 10 s in PBS at pH 2. The recovery values of LA in PBS and milk sample were 97.3% and 96.1%, respectively.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2The impact of global value chains on climate change
Ateş, Erdem; Şanlısoy, Selim
Climate change can be defined as the increase in average temperatures due to rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, predominantly due to human activities. Carbon emissions have increased at an alarming rate with the emergence of globalization, with its accompanying global value chain, and the consequent increase in global production volume with its polluting sectors. To combat this alarming situation, production with environmentally friendly technologies has emerged recently, and developing countries are embracing more and more costly environmentally friendly production techniques, although they are disadvantaged when it comes to covering the costs. However, it has been observed that they stay behind in this race to adopt environmentally friendly techniques compared to developed countries. The aim of the study, which is a novel contribution to the existing literature, is to examine the relationship between the global value chain and climate change by considering the distinction between developed and developing countries. The study used the data of 156 countries from the years 2000–2018. The results obtained from the generalized method of moments (GMM) show that participation in global value chains has different effects in developed and developing countries regarding carbon emissions. When the level of participation in GVC (global value chain) and FVA (foreign value added) increases, countries’ carbon emissions decrease, and it increases when the DVA (domestic value added) level increases. As a result, in particular, developing countries should green their production methods, and for this purpose, financial support mechanisms should be established.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a major health problem on a global scale and its treatment is unsatisfactory. We aimed to investigate the effects of transauricular vagal nerve stimulation (tVNS) on inflammation in rats with IBD induced by trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). A total of 36 adult female Sprague–Dawley rats were given TNBS, or vehicle, and tVNS, or sham, every other day for 30 min for 10 days. Postmortem macroscopic and microscopic colon morphology were evaluated by histological staining. Additionally, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α cytokine levels in the colon and the brain were evaluated by immunohistochemistry and western blotting analysis. TNBS induced epithelial damage, inflammation, ulceration, and thickened mucosal layer in the colonic tissues. Administration of tVNS significantly ameliorated the severity of TNBS-induced tissue damage and inflammatory response. TNBS also alters pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory balance in the brain tissue. TVNS application significantly suppressed the protein levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, namely IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF- α while augmenting the level of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 in the colonic and the brain tissue. We have shown that TNBS-mediated colonic inflammation and tissue damage are associated with neuroinflammatory responses in the brain tissue. Also demonstrated for the first time that neuroinflammatory response in the gut-brain axis is suppressed by tVNS in the IBD model. Non-invasive tVNS stands out as a new potential treatment option for types of IBD.

The use of natural stones in buildings is increasingly popular due to both their decorative appearance and their thermal performance. Proper use of these stones in buildings is crucial for energy conservation and preventing condensation within structural components. This study investigated heat transfer and condensation in the wall of a house made from natural andesite stone in Iğdır, Turkey, under steady-state conditions and different wall combinations. Samples were created from natural stones extracted from two different elevations in the foothills of Mount Ararat, with measured thermal conductivity values of 1.73 W/m·K (higher elevation– Haverage) and 1.31 W/m·K (lower elevation– Laverage). In the wall model using a 3-cm thick insulation board between two natural stones from the higher elevation, condensation occurred on the outer surface of the insulation layer. This can negatively impact the durability and thermal performance of the structure, and such design should be avoided. The highest heat flux of 18.27 W/m² was observed in the non-insulated wall made of higher elevation stones, while the lowest heat flux of 6.68 W/m² occurred in the model using a 3-cm insulation board between two lower elevation stones. No condensation risk was found in this configuration. The difference between the worst and best cases in terms of heat flux was approximately threefold, emphasizing the importance of proper material selection and insulation design. These findings provide guidance for energy-efficient building design using natural stone.

In this study, firstly, bis(thiosemicarbazone) ligand [L: 2,2′-(2-(2-(4-methoxyphenyl)hydrazineylidene)cyclohexane-1,3-diylidene)bis(hydrazine-1-carbothioamide)] was synthesized by the condensation reaction of thiosemicarbazide and ketone compound (2-(2-(4-methoxyphenyl)hydrazone)cyclohexane-1,3-dione). The metal complexes were synthesized by the reaction of obtained ligand (L) with CuCl2·2H2O, NiCl2·6H2O, CoCl2·6H2O, and MnCl2·4H2O salts. The structures of synthesized ligand and their complexes were characterized using elemental analysis, IR, UV–Vis, 1H-NMR spectra, 13C-NMR spectra, magnetic susceptibility, mass spectra (LC–MS), thermogravimetry analysis-differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA), and differential scanning calorimetry techniques. According to the results of the analysis, square plane geometry was suggested for Cu and Co complexes. However, the structures of Ni and Mn complexes were in agreement with octahedral geometry. Molecular docking analysis and pharmacological potential of the compound were evaluated to determine the inhibitory potential against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and Glutathione-S-transferases (GST) enzymes. The compound exhibited strong binding/docking indices of − 5.708 and − 5.928 kcal/mol for the respective receptors. In addition, L–Ni(II) complex was found to be the most effective inhibitor for AChE enzyme with a Ki value of 0.519. However, with a Ki value of 1.119, L–Cu(II) complex was also found to be an effective inhibitor for the GST enzyme.
