The emergence of multidrug-resistant bacterial strains has intensified the need for novel antimicrobial agents. Herein, we report a facile one-pot green synthesis of quercetin-stabilized silver (Qn@AgNPs) and copper (Qn@CuNPs) nanoparticles using quercetin as both reductant and capping ligand. The resulting nanocomposites were fully characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy (surface plasmon resonance peaks at 420 nm for Ag and 580 nm for Cu), FTIR (confirming quercetin–metal coordination), SEM/EDX (spherical particles, and XRD (face-centered cubic Ag and Cu phases). Density functional theory (B3LYP/3-21G) calculations yielded frontier molecular orbital gaps of 0.164 eV for Qn@AgNPs and 0.245 eV for Qn@CuNPs, with corresponding high softness values (12.20 and 8.16 eV⁻¹), indicating enhanced electron-transfer propensity. Molecular electrostatic potential maps revealed increased charge polarization around the metal centers. Antibacterial assays against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated minimum inhibitory concentrations of 2.11 ± 1.22 µg/mL and 4.69 ± 2.68 µg/mL for Qn@AgNPs, and 7.50 ± 0.00 µg/mL and 6.25 ± 0.17 µg/mL for Qn@CuNPs, significantly outperforming free quercetin (188 and 375 µg/mL). In silico docking against the S. epidermidis TcaR regulator (PDB: 1KZN) and E. coli DNA gyrase B (PDB: 1HSK) revealed strong binding affinities (–7.54 to − 10.15 kcal·mol⁻¹), consistent with the observed antimicrobial potency. This integrated experimental–computational study elucidates the mechanistic underpinnings of quercetin-mediated nanoparticle bioactivity and provides a rational framework for designing next-generation flavonoid-functionalized metal nanotherapeutics.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an essential material in the biomedical field because of its chemical composition, similar to the apatites found in bones. The lack of bactericidal properties of HAp-based materials cannot prevent the adhesion and growth of bacteria. However, it can develop composite biomaterials using nanoparticles (NPs) such as silver (Ag) and zinc (Zn), which exhibit biocidal behaviours to control resistant microorganisms. This study aimed to prepareHAp–AgNPs and HAp–Ag@ZnNPs nanocomposite and evaluate their antimicrobial properties against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. HAp powders were produced from sheep bone. An aqueous extract of Marrubium astracanicum was used as a reducing and stabilising agent for the synthesis of NPs. The composites were characterized by XRD, SEM–EDX, SEM and FTIR. In vitro biocompatibility assessment was determined by agar well diffusion tests. The HAp–Ag@ZnNPs nanocomposites showed stronger antimicrobial activity than HAp–AgNPs against bacteria and fungi, while pure HAp did not show any effect.

MXene based ternary composite photonic device was fabricated and characterized for the detection of different illuminations. The single chain polymer-cobalt phthallocyanine (SCP-CoPc) carrying metallised pthalocyanine macro ring was used as a polymer for the preparation of ternary composite. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) were used to differentiate MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc composite prepared. The presence of Ti, C, O, Zn and Co elements in the structure of the composite was confirmed by EDX. The electrical properties of planar interdigital coated MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc (1:1:1 by wt) were investigated for photovoltaic application. The photo-generated carriers contribute to the current flow, and the linear photoconductivity behaviour in current measurements with different illuminations such as 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mW/cm2 indicates the possible photo device use of MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc nanocomposite. The photocurrent increased from 20 mA/cm2 to 100 mA/cm2 with the light intensity at 0.5 V was tuned from 28 to 280 μA. The forbidden energy gap (Eg) value of the MXene/ZnO/SCP-CoPc ternary composite from optical measurements was found to be 2.36 eV. Experimental results showed that the presence of SCP-CoPc and ZnO (zinc oxide) in the ternary nanocomposite increased the ε' and ε" values of MXene. The ε′ and ε″ of the ternary composite is 13.0, 26217 at 1 kHz and room temperature, respectively. The current-time results suggest that MXene based ternary composite photonic device is a self driven photodevice as the device can detect light without any external voltage bias.

The Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheet was prepared by 40% (v/v) hydrofluoric acid etching at 20 °C for 48 h and delamination of bulk MAX Ti3AlC2 precursor material. A 2D nanomaterial MXene Ti3C2Tx as a nanofiller was introduced to polysulfone (PSulfone) matrix. MXene and PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite systems were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, Fourier-transform infrared and thermogravimetric analysis instruments. Dielectric and electrical characterization of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite was carried out. The electrical resistance of Ti3C2Tx MXene from measurement current (I)–voltage (V) was measured as 116 Ω. Pure PSulfone matrix exhibits typical insulator behavior, and MXene exhibits a good conductor behavior. But, when MXene was added to the pure PSulfone matrix, the resistance of the MXene/PSulfone nanocomposite increased moderately compared to that of pure MXene. In spite of the excess of surface functional groups, MXene showed surprisingly good electron transport across the surface, while in the case of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite, the insulating behavior of PSulfone significantly reduced the electron transport of MXene. The semiconductor behavior of PSulfone/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposite indicates that MXene provides efficient charge carrier transfer in the nanocomposite system. By comparing the TGA results between the PSulfone and different weight ratios of PSulfone/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposites, it was determined that MXene nanosheets had a significant effect in slightly accelerating the thermal degradation of PSulfone. Optical conductivity was investigated by preparing a film of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite on an interdigital contact. It was observed that the optical current values changed depending on the increasing illumination intensity. Considering current–voltage measurements, the photocurrent generation potential of PSulfone/MXene nanocomposite shows that it can be used in photodevice production.

This work aimed to investigate the effect of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (MNP), which are known to have a wide range of applications in recent years, on nanocomposite films prepared with shape memory polymers. Herein, PLA–PEG blend nanocomposite films were prepared by solution casting method using MNP at different ratios. PLA–PEG Blend/MNP nanocomposite films were characterized with Attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) to determine the –C=O stretching of PLA and Fe–O stretching signals of Fe3O4. The thermal stability, morphology, and magnetic behavior were studied by comparing the results among PLA–PEG blend, PLA–PEG blend/MNP nanocomposite with thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively. The effect of MNP on the shape memory properties of PLA/PEG blend was investigated. Moreover, the comparison of antimicrobial activity between PLA/PEG blend and PLA–PEG blend/MNP nanocomposite films were conducted by the disk diffusion method. The results showed that MNP increased the thermal stability of the PLA/PEG blend and the nanocomposites inhibited the growth of C.albicans microorganism. Aslan, Naim; Kurt, Mustafa Şükrü; Mehmet Koç, Mümin
Diamond-like carbon films have found various areas of application due to their particularly durable characteristics. To enhance the electrical and optoelectronic characteristics of the material, diamond-like carbon was co-deposited with Ge on p-type Si wafer using the DC magnetron sputtering technique, from which diamond-like carbon-germanium nanocomposites were obtained. The structural properties of the nanocomposites were assessed using electron microscopy techniques. The chemical structure of the nanocomposite films was confirmed using energy dispersive spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The electrical properties of the nanocomposite films were investigated via various electrical parameters as determined through current-voltage, capacitance–voltage, and conductance–voltage graphs. Photoresponsive and photosensitivity properties were also assessed using a solar simulator at various illumination intensities. It was concluded that nanocomposite thin films were responsive to light, where photosensitivity and photoresponsivity increased with increasing illumination intensity. The electrical characteristics of the nanocomposite films were associated with the frequency of the AC voltage applied.

Synthesis and characterization of 4-{(E)-[(5-bromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}-N-carbamimidoylbenzene-1-sulfonamide(SA) and its composites with graphene(SA-GF) were performed. Compound SA and SA-GF were characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR. The GF dispersion in the composites was analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) for morphology. Thermal properties of SA and nanocomposites were investigated using differential thermal analysis(DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The optimum electrical conductivity of the new sulfonamide-based Schiff base was determined to be 1.78×10−5 S/cm at a frequency of 9923 Hz, an applied voltage of −19 V, a mass fraction of 9.38% for graphene loading using a central composite design in the response surface methodology. The significance of the selected parameters(frequency, voltage and GF amount) in the model was determined by the analysis of variance(ANOVA). The results showed that frequency and graphene loading represent important model terms and have considerable effects on the conductivity of SA.

Integrative production of new nanocomposites has been used to enhance favorable features of biomaterials for unlocking ultimate potential of different molecules. In the present study, advantageous properties of diamond like carbons (DLC) and germanium (Ge) like greater biocompatibility and antibacterial attributes were aimed to combined into a thin film. For this purpose, 400 nm DLC–Ge nanocomposite was coated on the borosilicate glasses via the magnetron sputtering and surface characteristics was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and The Raman spectrum. Biocompatibility analysis were performed by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl) (MTT) cell viability assay and Hoechst 33258 fluorescent staining genotoxicity assessments on the human fibroblast cell line (HDFa). Finally, antibacterial properties of DLC–Ge nanocomposite coatings were investigated by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) bacterial attachment analysis. As a result of magnetron sputtering coating, nearly 400 nm thick DLC–Ge nanocomposite film showed a smooth, a non-porous, and a dense characteristic. Cell viability analysis showed that Ge–DLC coatings permits %95 cell surface growth of fibroblast cells. Also, there were no significant difference in aspect of nuclear abnormalities compared to the (−) control which showed nonmutagenic features of the thin film. Finally, antibacterial attachment analysis put forth that Ge–DLC coatings inhibits bacterial adhesion as %40 and %25 rates for P. aeruginosa and S. aureus bacterial strains, respectively. From these results, DLC–Ge nanocomposites could be proposed as a potential new biomaterial for various biomedical applications.

There is a great interest in nano-graphite due to its wide application in nanotechnology and important physical properties. Nanocomposites based on polymers and blends are important in the development of traditional polymers and in improving their usage areas. The aim of this study is to improve physico-chemical, and thermal behavior of poly(lactic acid) / poly(ε-caprolactone) (PLA/ PCL) blend by doping nano-graphite (NG) with different amounts and make the characterization of these nano-composites. It was observed that NG affected the temperature at which nanocomposites decompose. Also, the nanoparticles incorporated in the polymer blend become locked between the polymer filaments, speeding up the composites' decomposition. NG has significantly higher melting and evaporation temperature than PLA and PCL, so more residues were left as the quantity of NG rose. There was no significant change in the Tg and Tm peaks in the DSC experiment due to the inclusion of NG. While the NG particles raised the enthalpy of phase transition in general. The sharpness of the XRD peaks and the crystallinity of the nanocomposites both enhanced as the amount of NG in the blend was increased. Shape memory has been demonstrated to be a remarkable characteristic of thermos-sensitive PLA / PCL blend. Although the trained nanocomposite recovered most of its predetermined shape, increasing NG concentration in the composite may diminish its recovery behavior because.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ2Production and properties of epoxy matrix composite reinforced with hollow silica nanospheres (HSN): mechanical, thermal insulation, and sound insulation properties
Demir, Eda; Güler, Ömer
Hollow silica nanospheres (HSNs) have superior properties such as low density, low dielectric constant, low thermal conductivity, good sound absorption, dispersibility, fluidity, and stability. They have the potential to be utilised as a reinforcing material in the development of next generation composites due to their properties. Epoxy is one of the commonly utilised polymers in today’s technology. Production of epoxy matrix composite materials reinforced with particles having superior properties will open up new application areas for epoxy. In this study, mesoporous HSNs were produced. The mechanical, thermal and sound insulation properties of the composite were examined by reinforcing these mesoporous HSNs to the epoxy matrix. The epoxy matrix was reinforced with HSNs at 1 wt.%, 5 wt.%, and 10 wt.%. When the concentration of HSNs in the epoxy matrix was increased, its strength increased and its ductility decreased. While the non-reinforced epoxy had a tensile strength of 36.45 MPa, but the tensile strength of epoxy at the end of 10% HSN reinforcement reached 89.06 MPa. The strain % reduced in half. The sound insulation properties of epoxy improved as the concentration of HSNs increased. Thermal conductivity coefficient dropped up to a 5% reinforcement ratio, and then increased slightly at a 10% reinforcement ratio. The microstructure analyses indicated that when the reinforcement ratio increased, difficulties in the distribution of reinforcements to the matrix appeared. Furthermore, it was observed that when the matrix/reinforcement interface was improved, the properties of the composite improved.

Aydin, Handan
The electrical and optical properties of carbon nanotube and titanium dioxide nano-composites have been investigated. The carbon nanotubes were prepared by chemical vapor deposition. The diameters and lengths of the carbon nanotubes were respectively determined to be 20-30 nm and about 3-5 mu m by high resolution transmittance electron microscopy. The direct current electrical conductivity values sigma(dc) of the nanocomposites were found to be in the range of 5.96 x 10(-3)-0.47 S/cm. It was found that the electrical conductivity of nanocomposites increases with CNT content. The optical band gaps of the nanocomposites were determined by Kubelka-Munk theory based on the analysis of diffuse reflectance spectra. The band gap (E-g) values of the composites were decreased with increasing CNT contents. The obtained results indicate that the electrical and optical properties of TiO2 semiconductor metal oxide can be improved by incorporation of CNT content for electronic applications.
