- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ1Time-aware link prediction based on strengthened projection in bipartite networks
Aslan, Serpil; Kaya, B.
The traditional projection models in the bipartite networks involve many node pairs that consist of weak relationships. These node pairs lead to poor quality predictions as well as high computation time. In this paper, to cope with these problems, we firstly propose a novel projection model, which is called “Strengthened Projection Model”. Then, to predict the potential links in the future, we present a new link prediction approach based on the proposed projection model. Thanks to the proposed model, the computation time is shortened, and the high probability predictions are extracted. The majority of the previous works conducted in this area have used the classical proximity measure algorithms that only take into account the current network structure, regardless of when events occur in the network evolution. To overcome these limited methods, in this paper, we also propose a novel proximity measure algorithm that considers the bipartite network evolution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt that takes into account the time-awareness in bipartite networks. To evaluate the performance of our proposed approach, we conducted experiments on the academic information network. To construct this bipartite network, we collected data from IEEE Xplore. The experimental results show that the success of the proposed method is promising.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ1The Breast Size Satisfaction Survey (BSSS): Breast size dissatisfaction and its antecedents and outcomes in women from 40 nations
Swami, Viren; Tran, Ulrich S.; Barron, David; Afhami, Reza; Aimé, Annie; Almenara, Carlos A.; Alp Dal, Nursel; Amaral, Ana Carolina Soares; Andrianto, Sonny; Anjum, Gulnaz
The Breast Size Satisfaction Survey (BSSS) was established to assess women's breast size dissatisfaction and breasted experiences from a cross-national perspective. A total of 18,541 women were recruited from 61 research sites across 40 nations and completed measures of current-ideal breast size discrepancy, as well as measures of theorised antecedents (personality, Western and local media exposure, and proxies of socioeconomic status) and outcomes (weight and appearance dissatisfaction, breast awareness, and psychological well-being). In the total dataset, 47.5 % of women wanted larger breasts than they currently had, 23.2 % wanted smaller breasts, and 29.3 % were satisfied with their current breast size. There were significant cross-national differences in mean ideal breast size and absolute breast size dissatisfaction, but effect sizes were small (η2 = .02–.03). The results of multilevel modelling showed that greater Neuroticism, lower Conscientiousness, lower Western media exposure, greater local media exposure, lower financial security, and younger age were associated with greater breast size dissatisfaction across nations. In addition, greater absolute breast size dissatisfaction was associated with greater weight and appearance dissatisfaction, poorer breast awareness, and poorer psychological well-being across nations. These results indicate that breast size dissatisfaction is a global public health concern linked to women's psychological and physical well-being.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ1Emergency department network under disaster conditions: The case of possible major Istanbul earthquake
Gul, Muhammet; Fuat Guneri, Ali; Gunal, Murat M.
Emergency departments (EDs) provide health care services to people in need of urgent care. Their role is remarkable when extraordinary events that affect the public, such as earthquakes, occur. In this paper, we present a hybrid framework to evaluate earthquake preparedness of EDs in cities. Our hybrid framework uses artificial neural networks (ANNs) to estimate number of casualties and discrete event simulation (DES) to analyse the effect of surge in patient demand in EDs, after an earthquake happens. At the core of our framework, Earthquake Time Emergency Department Network Simulation Model (ET-EDNETSIM) resides which can simulate patient movements in a network of multiple and coordinated EDs. With the design of simulation experiments, different resource levels and sharing rules between EDs can be evaluated. We demonstrated our framework in a network of five EDs located in a region of which is estimated to have the highest injury rate after an earthquake in Istanbul, Turkey. Results of our study contributed to the planning for expected earthquake in Istanbul. Simulating a network of EDs extends the individual ED studies in the literature and furthermore, our hybrid framework can help increase earthquake preparedness in cities around the world. On the methodological side, the use of ANN, which is a member of machine learning (ML) algorithms family, in our hybrid framework also shows the close links between ML and DES.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ2Fabrication of a novel acrylate polymer bearing chalcone and amide groups and investigation of its thermal and isoconversional kinetic analysis
Biryan, Fatih; Pihtili, Güzin
The aim of the article was to examine the thermal degradation, thermal decomposition kinetics and dielectric behavior of novel poly(APHP-Am–Ac). For this purpose, the novel monomer, 4-(3-(4-acetamidophenyl)-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl)phenyl acrylate (APHP-Am–Ac), was synthesized from 1-(4-aminophenyl)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl) prop-2-en-1-one (APHP) and acetic anhydride reaction. The homopolymer P(APHP-Am–Ac) was prepared by free radical polymerization within dimethylformamide at 80 °C. The presence of rigid and bulky chalcone units in polymer side chains significantly improved the solubility of polyamides, giving them an amorphous nature and good thermal stability. The structural characterization of homopolymer was accomplished using FT-IR and NMR techniques. The thermal stability and degradation features of homopolymer have been performed by using TG analysis and FT-IR during partial degradation at different temperatures. The glass transition temperature of homopolymer was determined by DSC analysis. For thermal decomposition kinetics of poly(APHP-Am–Ac), Flynn–Wall–Ozawa and Kissinger methods were applied to thermogravimetric curves and apparent activation energies (Ea) calculated from these two methods. According to FWO, the activation energy (Ea) of the first step and the second step was found as: 157.78 kJ mol−1 and 151.81 kJ mol−1, respectively. For Kissinger’s model, Ea was calculated as 154.3 kJ mol−1 and 142.83 kJ mol−1, respectively. The dielectric and conductivity measurements of homopolymer were investigated by impedance analyzer technique in a range of 10 Hz–20 kHz frequency at different temperatures (from 25 to 120 °C). The results have been plotted as a function of frequency and temperatures. The values increased significantly with temperature.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ2Generalized quasi-einstein manifolds in contact geometry
Ünal, Inan
In this study, we investigate generalized quasi-Einstein normal metric contact pair manifolds. Initially, we deal with the elementary properties and existence of generalized quasi-Einstein normal metric contact pair manifolds. Later, we explore the generalized quasi-constant curvature of normal metric contact pair manifolds. It is proved that a normal metric contact pair manifold with generalized quasi-constant curvature is a generalized quasi-Einstein manifold. Normal metric contact pair manifolds satisfying cyclic parallel Ricci tensor and the Codazzi type of Ricci tensor are considered, and further prove that a generalized quasi-Einstein normal metric contact pair manifold does not satisfy Codazzi type of Ricci tensor. Finally, we characterize normal metric contact pair manifolds satisfying certain curvature conditions related toM-projective, conformal, and concircular curvature tensors. We show that a normal metric contact pair manifold with generalized quasi-constant curvature is locally isometric to the Hopf manifold S2n+1(1) x S1.

Gulmez, Nihan
In the construction industry, which large amounts of raw materials are consumed, substituting even small parts of concrete components with waste materials may lead to significant savings in consumed energy and natural resources hence support prevention of environmental pollution. In this study, an experimental program was carried out to find a reliable and eco-friendly method for eliminating large quantities of calcite powders originating from the marble processing industry and also aluminium shavings, a nondisposable product of metal working and shaping industry. Physical, mechanical and microstructural properties of the mortars produced with industrial wastes at different replacement percentages were evaluated. Adding up to 20% calcite to the mortar mixtures instead of cement did not cause a significant change in water absorption values compared to control mortar. In addition, the gradual increase of aluminium shavings in all mortar mixtures resulted in a significant decrease in apparent porosity. In mortars based on 10% calcite, an increase of 52% in 7-days flexural strength was achieved with the addition of 4% aluminium shavings.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ2Phycoremediation of Precious Metals by Cladophora fracta From Mine Gallery Waters Causing Environmental Contamination
Topal, Murat; Öbek, Erdal; Arslan Topal, E. Işıl
We have presented a study to determine the possibility for the usage of Cladophora fracta as bioaccumulator of the metals (Au) and silver (Ag) both have characteristics of pollutant and precious in mine water. The highest concentrations accumulated by C. fracta were determined as 5.8 ± 0.3 and 5323 ± 75 µg/kg for Au and Ag, respectively. The results showed that the accumulation of the metals measured followed the order of Ag > Au. The Metal Pollution Index (MPI) values calculated between 39.37 × 10−3 and 175.7 × 10−3 were used to determine the pollution degree of C. fracta. As a result, it was determined that C. fracta highly accumulated the precious metals from the gallery water. Therefore, C. fracta was a good bioaccumulator for the remediation of Au and Ag in mine gallery waters. In this way, it is possible to minimize or eliminate the environmental risks of the precious metals in the gallery waters.

Ozdemir, Yasal; Kaya, Sema Kayapinar; Turhan, Erkan
This study aims to develop a measuring tool which can address two independent research areas in the literature: Sustainability in higher education and service quality in higher education. Both subjects are studied independently in the literature, showing a need for an integrated approach that bridges these areas. For achieving this purpose, a new scale was developed based on a questionnaire applied to two universities in Turkey. The scale aimed to measure the perceptions of the students regarding the quality of sustainable campus services. The questionnaire consisted of 22 questions on several aspects of campus services which are related to sustainability. A total of 234 samples were used for Exploratory Factor Analysis for determining the underlying structures in the data set. The scale was validated with satisfactory Kaiser-Meyer Olkin and Bartlett's test results. Five dimensions were extracted, which represent sustainable service quality. After validation, the scale was applied to two universities located in geographically and socio-economically different regions of Turkey. The term chosen for the proposed combined scale is Sustainable Service Quality (SusServQual). With additional data, t-tests were applied to 308 students aiming to compare the two universities based on perceived quality scores. The results show that the university located in the socio-economically more developed region performed better regarding the overall satisfaction score and four of the five dimensions. The scores were also weighted utilizing a modified method of Analytical Hierarchy Process. Instead of crisp numbers which forces the decision maker to think in mathematical terms while comparing criteria, linguistic terms, each of which corresponds to a fuzzy number were used. Thus, a more accurate evaluation was obtained where the decision maker's subjectivity and ambiguity of the situation are important.

Kaya, Sema Kayapinar; Erginel, Nihal; Kahraman, C.; Cevik Onar, S.; Oztaysi, B.; Sari, I.U.; Cebi, S.; Tolga, A.C.
Sustainable development has gained importance in recent years as a development model that aims to create environmental awareness for future generations within the economic and social development goals of the countries. Sustainable development is concerned with the effective and efficient use of rapidly declining natural resources for the growing population. The achievement of the goals determined in sustainable development and the transfer to the next generations is realized through sustainable education. Due to the innovative and pioneering role of universities in society, they are the most important educational institutions that contribute to the spread of a sustainable lifestyle in society. In this study, Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (IT2_FQFD) approach was developed to improve sustainable university attributes. Firstly, the most important 12 sustainability criteria (SRs) were weighted with Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (IT2_FAHP). Then QFD approach was used to determine the importance of sustainability factor of university campus, the relations between SRs and SDs, and the correlations matrix among SDs via interval type-2 fuzzy sets. After that, the design attributes were ranked with fuzzy trade-off method. The fuzzy trade-off is a novel ranking method covering all of the solution space in order to find an optimal solution in decision-making problems with conflict criteria. This paper is the first study that presents a new method of combined IT2_FQFD and IT2_FAHP, which evaluates the sustainable university model considering the needs of student and academicians. As a result of this study, the most appropriate SDs were determined and ranked according to their importance level.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ1Geochemical characteristics of a pre-Middle Jurassic oceanic crust fragment from the Central Pontides in northern Turkey: Geodynamic implications on intra-oceanic subduction initiation
Çimen, Okay
The Central Pontides (northern Turkey) is one of the key localities to understand the geodynamic evolution of the Palaeo- and Neotethyan oceans. It consists of the pre-Jurassic basement units, the Early Jurassic and the Early Cretaceous accretionary complexes, the widespread Middle Jurassic continental arc magmatics and the Late Jurassic to Tertiary cover units. The Early Cretaceous accretionary complex is represented by the Central Pontide Structural Complex and includes the Middle Jurassic oceanic units, which were metamorphosed during the Early Cretaceous. Apart from these oceanic units, a few metaophiolite and serpentinite fragments have been recognized within the basement units, which may represent the remnants of an older ocean. The pre-Middle Jurassic Devrekani Metaophiolite is the largest oceanic fragment and tectonically intercalated within/between the Devrekani Metamorphics and the Çangaldağ Metamorphic Complex. It is mainly composed of harzburgites, dunites with chromite veins and metagabbros, and cut by metabasaltic andesites and metadacites. Petrographically, the gabbro consists mainly of plagioclase and clinopyroxene, and displays phaneritic/porphyritic texture. In contrast, the metabasaltic andesite includes plagioclase and mica phenocrysts within a fine-grained groundmass. Also, the metadacite is composed predominantly of quartz, plagioclase, and mica minerals. Two different magmatic groups belonging to completely different tectono-magmatic settings have been geochemically determined based on the immobile trace element systematics. The metadacites and metabasaltic andesites are akin to continental arc magmatics and characterized by negative Nb and Ta anomalies and depleted HFSE relative to Th and La contents. However, the metagabbro samples display the geochemical signatures of boninitic rocks and characterized by highly depletion in HFSEs and REEs relative to N-MORB. The Devrekani Metaophiolite in the Central Pontides may represent another remnant of pre-Middle Jurassic oceanic crust generation and can be north-eastward continuation of the Permian-aged Almacık complex and the Boğazköy Metaophiolite fragment in the western Sakarya Composite Terrane. It may have been cut by intrusions of the extensive Middle Jurassic continental arc magmatism after its imbrication within the basement unit. The presence of pre-Middle Jurassic oceanic units may indicate that the Paleozoic ocean may have survived as the Jurassic Intra-Pontide Ocean between the Scythian Platform and Sakarya Composite Terrane during the Mesozoic time. Thus, the Intra-Pontide Suture may normally include the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic remnants of the long-lived northward subducting Tethyan ocean.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ2Application of Pythagorean fuzzy AHP and VIKOR methods in occupational health and safety risk assessment: the case of a gun and rifle barrel external surface oxidation and colouring unit
Gul, Muhammet
The field of occupational health and safety (OHS) focuses on reducing occupational accidents to an acceptable level. OHS covers systematic efforts aimed at providing employee health, safety and welfare in the workplace. This study proposes a new approach for risk assessment in the field of OHS. It integrates the Pythagorean fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (PFAHP) and fuzzy VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (FVIKOR) into a risk assessment process. The PFAHP is used in weighting the risk parameters. FVIKOR is then applied to prioritize the hazards. To demonstrate the applicability and validity of the proposed approach, a case study of a barrel external surface oxidation and colouring unit of a gun and rifle production facility is performed. A comparison is also provided between the proposed approach and an intuitionistic fuzzy sets-based approach. The proposed approach is found to produce reliable outcomes that better represent the vagueness of the decision-making process.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ2A novel risk evaluation approach for frequently encountered risks in ship engine rooms
Başhan, Veysi; Demirel, Hakan; Gul, Muhammet
The purpose of this study is to evaluate risks which are frequently encountered in the engine room on-board. In this context, twenty common risks are assessed using the neutrosophic analytic hierarchy process (N-AHP) and trapezoidal fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TrF-TOPSIS). In maritime risk evaluation, since it is frequently required the linguistic assessment of decision-makers to achieve a robust risk assessment tool, neutrosophic sets and fuzzy sets are used together in this study. Neutrosophic sets represent real-world problems effectively by considering all aspects of decision-making situations, (i.e. truthiness, indeterminacy, and falsity). Therefore, AHP is integrated with neutrosophic sets to assign weights of risk parameters initially. Then, the encountered risks are prioritized by TrF-TOPSIS. Finally, preventative actions for the risks have been discussed. In conclusion of the study, it is shown that skin exposure to the fuels/oils, exposure to chemicals and exposure to high pressure and temperature liquids are the most important risks through the engine room on-board. This study both emphasizes the importance of preventing damage to crew in the risk assessment of ship engine rooms and aims to increase the level of safety control and minimize the potential environmental impacts of a ship's damage.

Yucesan, Melih; Mete, Suleyman; Serin, Faruk; Celik, Erkan; Gul, Muhammet
Regarding measuring of service quality at the emergency departments (ED), essential parameters are length of stay (LOS) and waiting times. Patient arrivals, which is related to LOS and waiting times, is hard to forecast and is affected by many parameters. Therefore, authors employed a Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous (NARX) model for forecasting of ED arrivals. NARX models are used extensively in many applications that show non-linear and dynamic behavior, but as far as authors know, the NARX method has not yet been used in the forecast of ED arrivals before. In this study, calendar and climatic variables are defined as input parameters. Patient Arrivals is defined as output parameter. A commercial software, MATLAB, was used to train and test the data set. To find the best network architecture Levenberg- Marquardt (LM) and Bayesian Regularization (BR) algorithms, different lags, and number of neurons were tested. R-squared and mean square error (MSE) are used to evaluate the accuracy of the tested networks.

Uyanik, Hakan; Koseoglu, Murat
Window functions are structures that are frequently used to increase the quality of the transformation when processing the signal in the time-frequency domain, especially when creating the spectrogram of the signal. In calculations for frequency information, Fourier transforms of short-time samples of the signal are transformed into spectrogram data with the help of window functions, and then operations are performed by using these data. In this study, the performance of three different window functions, which are used in obtaining spectrogram data in the algorithm developed for audio fingerprint-based audio recognition, have been tested under different artificial noise conditions. The results of these three different window functions were compared graphically, and a truth table was obtained based on the analyzed database. As a result of the simulations carried out in MATLAB, it has been observed that the hanning window function gives better spectral results for different noise levels, and accordingly it produces better matching results compared to the other two window functions as reported in former studies on different applications. In addition, some improvements about window length have been added into algorithm to obtain better results.

Mişe Yonar, Serpil; Yonar, M. Enis; Pala, Ayşegül; Sağlam, Naim; Sakin, Fatih
Trichlorfon (TCF) is an antiparasitic agent used in aquaculture to treat external parasites and it belongs to the chemical class of organophosphates. This study was conducted to investigate the ameliorating effects of lycopene on TCF-induced toxicity in carp by evaluating haematological parameters and oxidant/antioxidant status. Fish were randomly divided into seven experimental groups. These groups were arranged as follows: control (no treatment) group, corn oil group, lycopene (10 mg kg−1) group, TCF-I (11 mg L−1) group, TCF-I (11 mg L−1) plus lycopene (10 mg kg−1) group, TCF-II (22 mg L−1) group and TCF-II (22 mg L−1) plus lycopene (10 mg kg−1) group. At the end of 14 days administration, blood and tissue (liver, kidney, and gill) samples were collected. Haematological changes [red blood cell (RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) count, haemoglobin (Hb) concentration, haematocrit (Ht) level, and erythrocyte indices: mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC)] were determined in the blood samples, while antioxidant parameters [(malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities] were evaluated in the liver, kidney and gill samples. The results demonstrated that all the haematological parameters were significantly decreased in the TCF-I and TCF-II groups when compared to the control group. Notable increases in the tissue MDA levels were observed in the TCF-treated groups. In contrast, significant decreases were observed in the tissue SOD, CAT and GSH-Px activities and GSH levels in the TCF-I and TCF-II groups. However, simultaneous treatment with lycopene provided a marked normalisation of the haematological and oxidant/antioxidant parameters compared with the TCF-I and TCF-II groups. The findings show that dietary lycopene supplementation might be helpful in abrogation of TCF toxicity by changing haematological conditions and antioxidant status in fish.

Gamma and neutron shielding potential of the newly developed xAg2O-(35-x)[0.5V2O5-0.5MoO3]-65TeO2 (x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mol%) quaternary tellurite glass system were investigated computationally by means of Geant4 Monte Carlo simulations and Phy-X software. Gamma ray shielding capabilities were studied via the mass attenuation coefficient (μm), transmission fractions (T), effective atomic number (Zeff), half value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) parameters and for the photon energies of 0.284, 0.356, 0.511, 0.662, 1.173 and 1.330 MeV. Fast neutron removal cross-section (∑R) parameter of the glasses was calculated to assess the neutron shielding capabilities. The results of this study revealed that tellurite glass containing 25% moles of Ag2O has highest μm and Zeff and lowest T, HVL and MFP values due to the high atomic number of Ag. In this study it was also seen that the ∑R of the investigated glass system increases with the increase of Ag2O fraction and ∑R values of the studied glasses are higher than barite added concrete and close to the ∑R of the PbO added borate glasses.
