- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2Using Meta-Heuristic Optimization Algorithms to Determine Baseflow and Comparing Their Temporal Performance
Acar, Ramazan; Sapliogu, Kemal
Accurate and simple determination of baseflow is an extremely important issue. In this study, the baseflow levels of Göksu station number 1805 in the Seyhan basin were determined by calibrating the Lyne and Hollick, Chapman, Chapman and Maxwell methods available in the literature using meta-heuristic optimization methods. The meta-heuristic algorithms used for calibration in the study were run thirty times each. Thus the reliability, the reliability of the algorithms was tested with the standard deviations obtained. The study also measured the temporal performance of the algorithms. In addition, the baseflows of Göksu station were determined and their percentage rates were found separately according to all three methods and intuitive methods, and the results obtained were compared. By examining the results obtained in this section, the average baseflow rate of the basin was also determined. Furthermore, each phase of the study was repeated over a five-year period, with the objective of measuring its sustainability. Consequently, it has been demonstrated that the method can be employed over extended periods.

Fırat, Erhan; Oruç, Vedat; You, Rui; Biçer, Uğur; Devecioğlu, Atilla G.
Flow around the cylinder, with/without a pair of airfoils symmetrical to the cylinder's horizontal axis, was simulated for a diameter-based Reynolds number (Re) of 100. The objective of this numerical study is to simultaneously reduce the values of the time-averaged and fluctuating forces acting on a system consisting of a pair of airfoils and a cylinder below those of a single cylinder by using different combinations of the parameters chord (c), angle of rotation (β), angle of attack (α), and the shortest distance between the aerodynamic center of the airfoil and the surface of the cylinder (g). The values of these key parameters are determined primarily through two approaches. The first approach involves emulating the flow pattern surrounding the system to match the potential flow pattern. The second approach involves disrupting the interaction between the shear layers from the cylinder by stretching them in the mean flow direction. The second approach has been demonstrated to exhibit superior performance in terms of reducing both time-averaged and fluctuating forces concurrently. The second approach has been demonstrated to exhibit superior performance in terms of reducing both time-averaged and fluctuating forces concurrently. The optimal geometrical parameters that yield the desired end results are determined to be c = 0.5D, α = 0°, β = 60°, and g = 0.2D. Utilizing these parameters has been demonstrated to result in a substantial reduction in the time-averaged drag, fluctuating drag, and fluctuating lift coefficients of the system, with the respective percentage reductions reaching 14.4 %, 92.1 %, and 73 %, respectively, when compared to the values obtained for a single cylinder.

İpek, Yeliz; Ertekin, Özlem
Cotton fabrics and polypropylene fabrics are mostly used fabrics in many areas. Zn(B4O7) powder was synthesized with a sequential wet precipitation and sintering method. Focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) figures and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) mapping results showed that zinc diborate was highly and homogeneously adsorbed on the surface of the treated fabrics. When differential thermal analysis (DTA) results were examined, heat release seemed to decrease by 0.71 kJ g−1, 0.61 kJ g−1, and 0.46 kJ g−1for cotton fabric treated with zinc diborate (C-117-ZB), polypropylene fabric (20 g m−2) treated with zinc diborate (PP-20-ZB), and polypropylene fabric (65 g m−2) treated with zinc diborate (PP-65-ZB), respectively. According to vertical burning test, burning rates of cotton fabric (C‒117), C‒117‒ZB, polypropylene fabric (PP‒65), PP‒65‒ZB, polypropylene fabric (PP‒20), and PP‒20‒ZB were calculated as 3.25 cm s−1, 1.93 cm s−1, 0.75 cm s−1, 0.36 cm s−1, 0.88 cm s−1, and 0.71 cm s−1, respectively. Heat releases and burning rate decreases were in good agreement for all treated fabrics. Also breaking strengths of both fabric types were improved. The washing test exhibited that the amount of zinc diborate powder on the cotton fabric sample was released by 25.49% while PP-65-ZB and PP-20-ZB fabrics released about 90% by weight of adsorbed powder. Although improvement was observed in the fire resistance of PP fabrics, antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus could not be achieved. However, antibacterial activity was provided only for the cotton fabric.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2The Discursive Foundations of Chinese Foreign Policy under Xi Jinping: A Non-Western Theoretical Analysis
Gökcan, Özkan
China’s economic rise in the 21st century has prompted analyses of how this ascent will be reflected in the political sphere. Analyses in West-ern-centric media outlets and academia have predominantly focused on the notion that China will seek hegemony and an alternative international order in parallel with its economic rise. The central claim of this study is that these analyses, primarily based on realist and liberal assumptions, are incompatible with Xi Jinping’s foreign policy discourse. Therefore, Chinese foreign policy should be analyzed from an alternative theoretical perspec-tive. Building on this claim, this study first analyses the general framework of the discourse on which Chinese foreign policy was built during the Xi Jinping era. Subsequently, this discourse is examined in Tianxia, a Chi-na-centered non-Western theory. This analysis, supported by examples of concrete foreign policy steps in the concluding section of the study, aims to provide a non-Western perspective on Chinese foreign policy.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Seasonally adjusted periodic time series for Mann-Kendall trend test
Güçlü, Yavuz Selim; Acar, Ramazan; Saplıoğlu, Kemal
In this study, temperature data trend analysis is conducted, which is thought to be influenced by global warming, climate change, and local factor impacts. The main objective of this paper is to obtain an acceptable autoregressive correlation value for the MK test. For this purpose, seasonality (periodicity) especially in monthly time series is adjusted. Autoregressive correlation and homogeneity test values decrease after seasonal adjusting, but reasonable results are not achieved. Then, prewhitening procedure is also applied to the seasonally adjusted data. This process resulted in the data becoming both homogeneous and free autoregressive correlation. The final version of the time series is suitable for the MK test. Furthermore, the time series are divided into different time intervals, and the efficacy of the method is investigated. The results demonstrated that the method is suitable for time series with less than 30 years of data. The study demonstrated that the proposed method enhances the reliability of the data. Also, multiplication by 12 (months) allows the MK test with Z score in place of the Student's t-test in short-term data sets. This suggested methodology can be used to identify MK trend conditions in monthly time series. The application is based on monthly and annual average temperature data between 1957 and 2022 from three stations within the Kızılırmak basin (Çankırı, Kırşehir, Sivas stations) and one station within Seyhan Basin (Adana station) in Türkiye. The test results exhibited a significant increasing trend.

Yadav, Rama Shankar; Kaya, Sema Kayapinar; Pant, Abhay; Tiwari, Anurag
Purpose: Artificial intelligence (AI)-based human capital management (HCM) software solutions represent a potentially effective way to leverage and streamline a bank’s human resources. However, despite the attractiveness of AI-based HCM solutions to improve banks’ effectiveness, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, there are no current studies that identify critical success factors (CSFs) for adopting AI-based HCM in the banking sector. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating CSFs for adopting AI-based HCM software solutions in the banking sector. Design/methodology/approach: Full consistency method methodology and technology–organization–environment, economic and human framework are used for categorizing and ranking CSFs. Findings: The study identifies the technological and environmental dimensions as the most and least important dimensions for AI-based HCM adoption in banks. Among specific CSFs, compatible technology facilities, sufficient privacy and security and relative advantages of technology over competing technologies were identified as the most important. Implementation of AI-based HCM solutions requires significant outlays of resources, both human and financial, for banks. Originality/value: The study provides bank administrators a set of objective parameters and criterion to evaluate the feasibility of adopting a particular AI-based HCM solution in banks.

The depletion of unique genetic resources and increased risk of extinction may result from hybridization between native and introduced species. In the present study, morphological and molecular analysis were performed on two putative natural interspecific hybrids of the genus Salmo and their parent species, Salmo labrax and Salmo munzuricus, collected from Uzunçayır Dam Lake, which is fed by Munzur and Pülümür streams. Molecular analyses revealed the presence of S. labrax in Uzunçayır Dam Lake for the first time. Phylogenetic analysis using the cytochrome b (Cytb) gene of mitochondrial DNA to determine the maternal origin revealed that hybrid individuals belonged to the same clades as S. labrax or S. munzuricus. Recombination activating gene 1 (Rag1) sequence of nuclear DNA was analyzed for paternal analysis and it was determined that hybrid individuals carried similar single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to S. labrax or S. munzuricus. These findings support that individuals derive from different parental species. Therefore, evidence from trout samples assumed to be natural hybrids in this study suggests interspecific hybridization between S. labrax and S. munzuricus, but further studies are required. Natural pozzolans are a sustainable alternative to Portland cement, offering abundant alumina and reactive silica for geopolymer production. Due to their simple extraction methods, they are cost-effective and environmentally friendly. This study explores the utilization of dunite powder (DP) as a sustainable precursor in one-part alkali-activated slag-based composites (AAC), aiming to evaluate its potential to partially replace granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS). The mechanical, fresh, and durability properties of the composites were investigated by varying DP replacement levels (0%, 15%, 30%, and 60%) under an activator dosage of sodium metasilicate, with the mixtures cured at 80 °C for 24 h and subsequently exposed to ambient conditions. The compressive and flexural strengths were evaluated at 7, 28, and 91 days, while the fresh properties (flowability and setting time), durability under sulfate attack, high-temperature resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, dry shrinkage, sorptivity and microstructural characteristics (SEM, XRD, and FT-IR) were also examined. The compressive strength decreased with higher DP content, with the 60% DP mixture showing a 43% strength reduction at 28 days compared to the reference mixture. However, the 30% DP mixture achieved a favorable balance between strength and sustainability, demonstrating a compressive strength decrease of only 11% at 91 days. The mixture containing 15% DP demonstrated the best performance under high-temperature conditions and freeze-thaw cycles. The 60% DP mixture exhibited the highest mass and strength loss when exposed to temperatures above 400 °C and a 15% compressive strength reduction after 120 days of immersion in a 10% MgSO4 solution.

Türkiye, which holds an important agricultural spot in the world with its ecological conditions for the cultivation of numerous plant species, has a highly rich genetic potential in terms of the genetic resource diversity of grapes. The Tunceli province, located in the Eastern Anatolia region, is a Turkish region with a harsh terrain structure. This study aims to perform the genetic characterisation and identification of the grape accessions within the Tunceli province, which are not included in the national collection vineyard and are at risk of extinction. In this study, ampelographic characterisation was conducted using a set of 78 descriptors (Vitis species) established by the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du vin) and a Principal Component Analysis was performed. A total of 54 grape samples, consisting of 52 indigenous (from six different regions/populations), 2 reference samples, 1 identical, 1 synonymous, and 4 homonymous cases, were identified using 6 SSR markers. In the structure analysis, it was observed that there was significant gene flow among the Tunceli region populations. Moreover, through the Bayesian analysis, it was determined that the Tunceli region populations (except for the reference population) had a high degree of admixture. In the FCA analysis (with the reference population), it was found that the Akpazar population in particular and, partially, the Mazgirt population, exhibited distinctions. However, genetic distance data also confirmed the distance of the Akpazar population from others. In the RPPs clustering analyses, while the entire population was distributed across 4 different RPPs, 39 accessions (72%) were assigned to one of the RPPs with a membership probability greater than 80%.

Yayla, Nihal; Güler, Ömer
This study presents a comprehensive review of the structural, mechanical and magnetic properties of high and medium entropy alloys (HEA and MEA) with rare earth elements (REE) additions. The addition of REE has been shown to have significant effects on phase transformations, microstructural arrangements and thermodynamic stability. Studies in the literature show that REE addition improves properties such as hardness, strength, deformation resistance and magnetic performance. In particular, changes such as transitions from FCC to HCP, formation of intermetallic phases and grain refinement have been observed in phase types with the addition of elements such as Gd, Y and Nd. REE added HEAs offer great potential for modern engineering and advanced technology applications with their superior magnetic moments, magnetocaloric effects and thermal stability. However, there is limited information in the literature on REE added HEAs. This review aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the development of REE added HEAs and to serve as an important reference point for future research.

The primary objective of this study was to examine the effect of Momordica charantia L. extract (MCE) on the generation of heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) in meatball samples. Meatballs were prepared with varying usage rates of MCE (0%, 0.5%, and 1%) and pan-fried at 150 °C, 200 °C, and 250 °C for a total cooking duration of 10 min. The samples were analyzed for proximate composition, pH, cooking loss, and HAA levels. Results indicated that increased cooking temperatures led to higher total HAAs, with specific types and quantities of HAAs varying according to both cooking temperature and MCE concentration. The total HAA content in the meatball samples ranged from 0.81 ng/g and 10.75 ng/g. Specifically, the total HAAs were 1.29 ± 0.38 ng/g, 3.40 ± 1.52 ng/g, and 7.60 ± 2.48 ng/g in meatballs cooked at 150 °C, 200 °C, and 250 °C, respectively (p < 0.05). The addition of MCE at different concentrations reduced the generation of total HAAs, with 0.5% MCE showing the highest inhibitory effect, reducing total HAAs by 30.8%. These findings underscore the significance of considering cooking conditions, including temperature and usage rate, when incorporating antioxidant compounds into meat products.

Seyhan, Mehmet; Demirci, Veysel; Çolak, Aleyna; Kan, Furkan Erman; Firat, Erhan; Sarioglu, Mustafa
In recent decades, experimental and numerical studies have demonstrated that wings with leading-edge (LE) tubercles exhibit advantageous aerodynamic performance at high attack angles compared to their unmodified counterparts. A substantial portion of these studies employed a single sinusoidal function to design the tubercles applied along the entire span. In this study, two functions were utilized to design tubercles. This experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effects of segmentally distributed (i.e., equally spaced) LE tubercles on the aerodynamic characteristics (ACs) of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) 0018 airfoils and to associate them with the flow patterns observed on the suction surface. To this end, five different airfoil models have been produced and tested. The models consist of one plain airfoil, one fully tubercled airfoil, and three segmentally tubercled airfoils. The test results were obtained at Reynolds numbers (Re) of 0.6 × 10 5 to 1.2 × 10 5 . It has been determined that the distance between neighboring tubercled segments possesses a critical value with regard to performance enhancements in the post-stall regime. In the range below this critical distance, the tubercled segments lack the capacity to reattach the separated flow from the plain segments of the airfoil. Furthermore, the presence of a novel vortical structure (i.e., single rotating vortex cell, SRVC) under certain conditions was demonstrated qualitatively.

Angur, G. Ersever; Çınar, M.; Çelik, M.S.
Sepiolite, a natural strategic clay mineral within the phyllosilicate group, is utilized in numerous applications because of its physical, and rheological properties. In particular, outstanding rheological properties are utilized in areas including drilling mud, paint, cosmetics, adhesives, etc. Several studies have been performed for the purification of clays, such as air classification, calcination, hydrocyclone, and flotation, for different purposes. In this study, relatively easy physical upgrading methods involving hydroxyclone, Falcon, and shaking table have been tested with the aim of obtaining a high-viscosity sepiolite product for rheological applications. It is shown that dispersion time, particle size, and pH are the most critical parameters in the viscosity development of sepiolite. The results indicate that, depending on the dispersion time of the raw HS1 sepiolite sample used in this study, the highest quality rheological material remains in the size range of – 2 mm to + 1 mm. Below – 0.1 mm, the viscosity value of the sepiolite sample decreased to its lowest value of 6000 cP. The pH-dependent viscosity measurements of a raw HS1 sepiolite sample exhibited the highest viscosity value of 13,000 cP at its natural pH of 8.5. Polyacrylic acid sodium salt (PAA) is the most effective dispersing agent in the decantation process for the enrichment of HS1 sepiolite samples. Among the three gravity/sizing beneficiation techniques tested, the middlings product of the shaking table achieved the highest quality sepiolite product of 17,000 cP with 49.2 wt.% using the size range of – 2.83 mm to + 1 mm; this material is suitable for high-grade rheological applications.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ3Negative Outcome Expectation as a Barrier for Knowledge Sharing: Conceptualisation and Measurement Development
Uyan, Umut
Knowledge sharing has become the critical success factor for effective knowledge management since it bridges the gap between knowledge creation and utilisation. So far, socio-psychological factors have yet to attract the attention of scholars despite numerous barriers impeding the flow of knowledge. The current study is, therefore, designed to develop a self-reporting measurement instrument that uncovers hidden sharing barriers triggered by negative outcome expectations. To test the psychometric properties of the newly designed instrument, a stepwise procedure was applied. The findings indicate that the instrument aimed at developing is a multidimensional construct consisting of 13 items and four dimensions (assumption of being ignored, assumption of not meeting expectations, assumption of being non-sense and assumption of conflict avoidance). The results of this study provide preliminary evidence for the reliability and validity of the 13-item negative outcome expectation scales as a measure of hidden assumptions towards knowledge sharing.

Aslan, Seda Aktı; Turgut, Yigit Emrah; Ünlü, Gökhan; Allison, Jordan
This study investigates the impact of the Flipped Classroom Model (FCM) on university students’ learning achievement, self-directed learning skills (SLS), and course interaction within the context of live online classes (LOC). Employing a 14-week quasi-experimental design, the research involved an experimental group (n = 34) exposed to the FCM and a control group (n = 25) taught through traditional methods. Pre-tests indicated that the groups were not statistically different at baseline. Post-intervention analyses revealed no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of immediate learning achievement or course interaction. However, results from a delayed post-test indicated that students in the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher retention of learning content compared to their counterparts. No significant improvements were observed in self-directed learning skills, suggesting that the FCM, as implemented, may not effectively foster such competencies across all learners. Furthermore, the model did not significantly enhance student interaction in the online classroom environment. These findings suggest that while the FCM may support long-term retention, its overall impact on achievement, interaction, and the development of SLS in LOC settings is limited and may be moderated by students’ existing self-regulatory capacities.

In this study, for the first time, camelina (Camelina sativa (L.) Crtz.) seed mucilage (CM) was used as a fat substitute in a cookie formula, and the physicochemical, textural, and functional properties of mucilage-incorporated cookies were investigated. The moisture, protein, ash, fat, and carbohydrate content of the CM was 6.46% ± 0.35%, 17.44% ± 0.62%, 11.49% ± 0.39%, 1.27% ± 0.10%, and 63.16% ± 0.58%, respectively. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy identified acidic (–COOH) functional groups in the CM. Four distinct cookie samples were examined: The control-cookie, 20% CM-cookie, 40% CM-cookie, and 60% CM-cookie were prepared by replacing shortening with CM at 0%, 20%, 40%, and 60% levels, respectively. The mucilage-incorporated doughs were softer, springy, cohesive, and resilient compared to the control dough (p < 0.05). As for the cookies, the fat content of the 20% CM-cookie, 40% CM-cookie, and 60% CM-cookie samples decreased by 12.52%, 31.49%, and 50.12%, respectively, compared to the control-cookie. The control-cookie had the lowest baking loss (p < 0.05), and the baking loss values of the mucilage-incorporated cookies increased with increasing fat replacement level. The highest spread ratio was recorded in the 20% CM-cookie, followed by the control-cookie (p < 0.05). The highest hardness and brittleness values (70.68 ± 3.37 N and 11.52 ± 0.34 mm) belonged to the 60% CM-cookie, whereas the lowest (19.42 ± 1.42 N and 8.80 ± 0.26 mm) belonged to the control-cookie (p < 0.05). Incorporating mucilage into the cookie formula increased the total phenolic compound content but decreased the antioxidant activity. These results show that CM has potential utility as a fat substitute in cookie production without significant quality loss.

Post-harvest quality and product losses are significant for hawthorn fruits, which have a short shelf life and limited marketing period. This study examined the effects of putrescine applications to maintain the physical quality and biochemical contents of hawthorn fruits and extend their shelf life during cold storage. Hawthorn fruits were treated with different doses of putrescine (0.5 mM, 1 mM, and 2 mM) and stored for 30 days. The effects of putrescine applications on weight loss, decay rate, fruit firmness, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), total phenolic content, total antioxidant content, individual phenolic compounds, and organic acid properties were evaluated on the 10th, 20th, and 30th days of storage. At the end of the cold storage, the lowest weight loss and decay rate and the highest fruit firmness were observed in the 1 mM putrescine application. In general, putrescine applications maintained total phenolic content, with the increase in total antioxidant content continuing until the 20th day. The highest increase in total phenolic and total antioxidant content was observed with the 1 mM putrescine application. Succinic acid, a decreasing phenolic compound, was identified as the primary acid in hawthorn fruits throughout storage. The storage period and putrescine application dose caused increases and decreases in phenolic compounds. Gallic acid was determined as the highest phenolic compound in hawthorn fruit. The 1 mM putrescine application was found to be the most effective application for organic acids and phenolic compounds. Putrescine, one of the main polyamines, was shown to be an effective method for maintaining the quality and shelf life of hawthorn fruit. Additionally, this study is expected to serve as a foundation for future similar studies.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2025Transparency and Reverse Transparency: Understanding Digital Leadership in Light of Agency Theory
Sezgin, Eray Ekin
We live in a digital world where most of our work and life experiences are based on information technologies and the internet. Developments in information technologies affect not only business life but also our social and community lives. Leading in the digital age is much more difficult and complex than leading in a world with no opportunities and no technology. Transparency is critical to digital leadership. The increase in the volume of data with developing technologies leads to increased transparency in organizations and has a significant impact on leadership. However, this also brings challenges. On the one hand, transparency facilitates employee empowerment, but on the other hand, it raises concerns about employee oversight and confidentiality. Moreover, transparency has traditionally been a one-sided construct where control is given to managers, leading to a panoptic scenario. To overcome these concerns and challenges, it is imperative to design new forms of control. In this regard, the contemporary workforce demands reverse transparency in the context of agency theory.
