An extended fuzzy TOPSIS-GRA method based on different separation measures for green logistics service provider selection

    Celik, E.; Erdogan, M.; Gumus, A. T.

In this paper, first, the criteria that make logistics service providers more green'' are determined as: cooperation with customer's company and its customer, green government regulations, environmental management system, green process design, reduction in energy consumption and green network design. The criteria weights are determined by fuzzy AHP, based on expert opinions. Then, a new method is proposed, which is the combination of fuzzy TOPSIS and GRA, and used to evaluate green 3PLs based on different separation measures, as an extension, using trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Five Turkish 3PLs serve in Istanbul are selected in order to apply a case study to show the applicability of the proposed method. Finally, the proposed method is verified with respect to different resolving coefficient values and separation measures and also compared with fuzzy TOPSIS and fuzzy VIKOR method results. Different multi-criteria decision-making methods can be applied and compared to check validity of our results for future studies. The proposed method can also be implemented to 3PLs in other countries.

Automatic mining of accurate and comprehensible numerical classification rules with cat swarm optimization algorithm

    Akyol, Sinem; Alatas, Bilal

Optimization is the process of finding the best solution of a problem. There are many optimization algorithms proposed for optimization problems. The metaheuristic algorithm can give solutions close to optimum in an acceptable period of time for large-scaled optimization problems. The metaheuristic optimization algorithms are evaluated in seven different groups which are biology-based, physics-based, swarm-based, social-based, music-based, sport-based, and chemistry-based. The swarm-based optimization algorithms have been developed by observing the behaviors of creatures e.g. birds, fishes, cats, bees etc. Data mining is the process of discovery of meaningful and useful data within huge databases. Classification rules mining is one of the most commonly studied data mining problems and with methods for this problem, users can easily understand the rules extracted from databases. In this work, one of the most recent swarm based optimization algorithm, Cat Swarm Optimization (CSO), has been firstly used for classification rules mining within databases composed of numerical or mixed data types automatically. There is not any preprocess for finding true ranges for appropriate attributes of the rules, this has been automatically done by CSO. Furthermore, the used objective function is very flexible and many different objectives can easily be added to. For this purpose, four numerical databases obtained from UCI data warehouse have been used and accurate and comprehensible classification rules have been mined. The results have been compared with the results obtained from Weka program. Although CSO has not been embedded with any improvement and has firstly implemented in this research area, the obtained results seem promising.

Uranium (VI) Biosorption on Marine Sponge, Sarcotragus foetidus (Schmidt, 1862) and Its Statistical Investigation Using Central Composite Design

Celik, Fatih; Camas, Mustafa; Camas, Anil Sazak; Ozalp, Hasan Baris

The biosorption of heavy metals, radionuclides, uranium and thorium for the recovery or removal from aqueous systems using various micro-organisms and biological substances has been investigated by several groups of workers. In this paper, the uptake of uranium (VI) from aqueous systems by a marine sponge, Sarcotragus foetidus (Schmidt, 1862) has been investigated. S. foetidus samples were collected from Babakale/Ayvacik/Canakkale in Turkey. Uranium (VI) uptake experiments were carried out by the batch technique. The affecting parameters were analyzed using Central Composite Design (CCD) as the experimental method. Four independent variables such-pH, temperature, contact time, and initial uranium concentration were selected for this study. The influences of initial pH, contact time, and initial uranium concentration on the biosorption process were considered statistically significant as main effects. On the other hand, interaction effects of pH and contact time, as well as pH and initial uranium concentration, were considered as significant parameters on the biosorption process. The optimum condition of biosorption process was found to be at initial pH: 4, temperature: 35 degrees C, initial uranium concentration: 20 mg/L, and contact time: 31 minutes. At these conditions, the biosorption yield of uranium (VI) ions was obtained to be 93.29 +/- 2%.

The Effects of Dietary Antioxidants on the Arginase Activity and Nitric Oxide Level of Narrow-Clawed Turkish Crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus, Esch 1823) in Moulting Period

Benzer, Fulya; Özçelik, Mehtap; Yildirim, Nuran Cikcikoglu

The effects of dietary antioxidants (vitamine E, vitamine C, Astaxhantin, beta carotene) on arginase activity and nitric oxide levels of hepatopancreas and muscle of freshwater crayfish (Actacus leptodactylus) were investigated during moulting. 150 mg kg(-1) vitamine E (VE), 200 mg kg(-1) vitamine C (VC), 200 mg kg(-1) Astaxhantin and 200 mg kg(-1) beta carotene were added to experimental diets. A. leptodactylus with these diets were fed with 2% of their total weight daily, in a day during 75 days. Arginase activity was increased in muscle of crayfish fed the diets VC, VE, astaxanthin and beta karoten but in hepatopancreas arginase activity was increased with beta carotene when compared to control. NO levels in muscle were decreased when compared to control but this decrease was not statically significant. NO levels in hepatopancreas of crayfish fed the diets VC and astaxanthin were higher than control groups. Our results demonstrated that dietary antioxidants affect the arginase activity and nitric oxide level of freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus, Esch. 1823) during moulting.

Spawning and Larval Rearing in Hybrid Striped Bass (Morone chrysops ♀ X Morone saxatilis ♂) in Turkey

Guner, Yusuf; Kizak, Volkan; Altunok, Muhammet; Celik, Ihsan

This study is the first spawning and larval rearing of the F-1 hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops female X M. saxatilis male) grown in culture conditions in Turkey. The F-1 Hybrid striped bass was fed with commercial pellet feed in floating net cages. They reached the sexual maturity at two years old. Female brood fish were given 30 mu g/kg of LHRH-a (Lutenizing hormone releasing hormone analogue) and male fish given 10 mu g/kg; of CHP(Dried carp pituitary), 4 mg/kg was used for the female and half that amount for the male for induced breeding. The fish injected LHRHa were successfully induced to both strip spawning and tank spawning by a single hormone injection. However, fish injected CPH and saline, untreated control did not spawn. Latency period was found to be 20.41 +/- 0.91 hour. In term of fertilization rate, larval deformity rate no significant difference was found between tank spawning and strip spawning (p>0.05). Fertilization rates ranged from 56.3% to 85.4% and hatch rates were between 0.99% and 46.88%, whereas the level of larval deformities ranged between 81.25% and 100%. Hatched larvae were placed into 400-liter rectangular tanks with water discharge of 4 liter/minute at a stocking density of 30 larvae/liter. After larvae hatching, they were given artemia nauplii for 5-19 days. Trout granule feed (300-500 micron) also started to be given in addition to artemia nauplii afterwards. Granule feed was started eating completely 24 th days. The larvae obtained from a single hatch in the production season reached 2.87 cm length in 32 days with 2.7% survival rate. Of this study was terminated due to white spot disease (Ichtyophthirius multifilis) arising from sudden change in water temperature. The F-2 progenies were not deemed to be available for aquaculture due to poor fertilization, poor hatching, low survival rate and high deformity rate. For the progenies of the hybrid striped bass that grow in natural water, it was suggested that their ecology in waters in Turkey be first studied and brought into aquaculture afterwards.

Exponential prototype structures for (2+1)-dimensional Boiti-Leon-Pempinelli systems in mathematical physics

    Baskonus, Haci Mehmet; Bulut, Hasan

In this study, a new method called improved Bernoulli sub-equation function method has been proposed. This method is based on the Bernoulli sub-ODE method. After we mention the general properties of proposed method, we apply this algorithm to the (2+1)-dimensional Boiti-Leon-Pempinelli equation system. This gives us some new prototype solutions such as exponential and rational function solutions. Then, we have plotted two- and three-dimensional surfaces of analytical solutions. Finally, we have submitted a comprehensive conclusion.

New wave behaviors of the system of equations for the ion sound and Langmuir Waves

    Baskonus, Haci Mehmet; Bulut, Hasan

This manuscript focuses on the new wave behaviors of the system of equations for the ion sound wave under the action of the ponderomotive force which results from a nonlinear force that a charged particle experiences in an inhomogeneous oscillating electromagnetic field due to high-frequency field. The sine-Gordon expansion method which is one of the powerful methods has been considered for finding traveling wave solutions of the system of equations for the ion sound wave under the pressure of the Langmuir wave. This algorithm yields new complex hyperbolic function solutions to the system considered in this paper. Wolfram Mathematica 9 has been successfully used throughout the paper for mathematical calculations.

Switched reluctance motor control without position sensor by using data obtained from finite element method in artificial neural network

Polat, Mehmet; Oksuztepe, Eyyup; Kurum, Hasan

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) require sensitive rotor information in order to work sensitively and properly and especially for the commutation of phase currents. Position information is generally acquired from a sensor which is generally placed into the stator or connected to the rotor. However, sensors have disadvantages in terms of cost, safety, complexity and volume. In order to remove these disadvantages, recent studies concentrate on SRMs working without a position sensor. In this study control methods working without a position sensor are examined, the applied method is presented comprehensively. The education and test data of the artificial neural network is not obtained from simulation or experimental results; it is obtained from magnetic analyses carried out in ANSYS 10 and the results are used in position speed and current sensorless control of SRM. The validity of proposed method is demonstrated by using DS 1103.

Chronic exposure of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) to iron oxide nanoparticles: Effects of particle morphology on accumulation, elimination, hematology and immune responses

Ates, Mehmet; Demir, Veysel; Arslan, Zikri; Kaya, Hasan; Yilmaz, Sevdan; Camas, Mustafa

Effects of chronic exposure to alpha and gamma iron oxide nanoparticles (alpha-Fe2O3 and gamma-Fe2O3 NPs) were investigated through exposure of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) to 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 mg/L (9.2 x 10(-4), 4.6 x 10(-3) and 9.2 x 10(-3) mM) aqueous suspensions for 60 days. Fish were then transferred to NP-free freshwater and allowed to eliminate ingested NPs for 30 days. The organs, including gills, liver, kidney, intestine, brain, spleen, and muscle tissue of the fish were analyzed to determine the accumulation, physiological distribution and elimination of the Fe2O3 NPs. Largest accumulation occurred in spleen followed by intestine, kidney, liver, gills, brain and muscle tissue. Fish exposed to gamma-Fe2O3 NPs possessed significantly higher Fe in all organs. Accumulation in spleen was fast and independent of NP concentration reaching to maximum levels by the end of the first sampling period (30th day). Dissolved Fe levels in water were very negligible ranging at 4-6 mu g/L for alpha-Fe2O3 and 17-21 mu g/L for gamma-Fe2O3 NPs (for 1 mg/L suspensions). Despite that, Fe levels in gills and brain reflect more dissolved Fe accumulation from metastable gamma-Fe2O3 polymorph. Ingested NPs cleared from the organs completely within 30-day elimination period, except the liver and spleen. Liver contained about 31% of alpha- and 46% of gamma-Fe2O3, while spleen retained about 62% of alpha- and 35% of the gamma-polymorph. No significant disturbances were observed in hematological parameters, including hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cell and white blood cell counts (p > 0.05). Serum glucose (GLU) levels decreased in treatments exposed to 1.0 mg/L of gamma-Fe2O3 NPs at day 30 (p < 0.05). In contrast, GLU levels increased during the elimination period for 1.0 mg/L alpha-Fe2O3 NPs treatments (p < 0.05). Transient increases occurred in glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Serum Fe levels did not change during exposure (p > 0.05), but increased significantly within elimination period due to mobilization of ingested NPs from liver and spleen to blood. Though respiratory burst activity was not affected (p > 0.05), lysozyme activity (LA) was suppressed suggesting an immunosuppressive effects from both Fe2O3 NPs (p < 0.05). In contrast, myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels increased significantly in treatments exposed to alpha-Fe2O3 NPs (p < 0.05), and the effect from gamma-polymorph was marginal (p > 0.05). The results indicate that morphological differences of Fe2O3 NPs could induce differential uptake, assimilation and immunotoxic effects on O. niloticus under chronic exposure. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
