- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Occurrence of Antimicrobial Resistance in Kocuria rhizophila Bacteria Isolated From Salmo munzuricus (Teleostei: Salmonidae) Samples in Natural Resources
Kar, Bülent
Global warming and environmental pollution trigger the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) opportunistic pathogens in the aquatic microflora. This study aimed to determine the characterization and AMR profile of the opportunistic pathogen Kocuria rhizophila isolated from the tissues of Salmo munzuricus (Munzur trout), an endemic species. Samples collected from the Munzur River were identified using morphological and molecular (16S rDNA) methods; bacterial isolates were characterized by MALDI-TOF and sequencing. The resistance status against 11 different antibiotics was analyzed with the Kirby-Bauer method. The findings revealed that the isolates (with 99.51% accuracy as K. rhizophila) showed full resistance to Penicillin G (p < 0.01) and were moderately sensitive to gentamicin and tetracycline. High sensitivity to amoxicillin and ampicillin was detected. These findings demonstrate that even in natural environments, the fish microbiome in wild endemic populations can be susceptible to the development of AMR in response to environmental changes. Therefore, determining the resistance of opportunistic pathogens in wild fish species such as Salmo munzuricus to different classes of antibiotics and studying their spread is extremely important for natural ecosystems.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Sustainable material pathways: Utilizing biomass-derived bio-oils from agricultural wastes to restore aged asphalt binder properties
Yalcin, Beyza Furtana; Yilmaz, Mehmet; Yalcin, Erkut; Kok, Baha Vural
This study explores the valorization of agricultural biomass wastes into high-value bio-based materials by evaluating the performance of pyrolysis-derived bio-oils obtained from straw, pine cone, and olive pomace for the rejuvenation of aged asphalt binders. The effectiveness of these biomass-derived bio-oils was comparatively assessed against two commercial rejuvenators to enhance binder reusability using renewable resources. The optimum rejuvenator dosages were determined through penetration, viscosity, and dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) tests, while the associated physical and chemical modifications were investigated using FTIR, SEM-EDS, and elemental analyses. Penetration and viscosity results indicated that all rejuvenators significantly reduced binder stiffness and improved fluidity. DSR analysis indicated that increasing rejuvenator content reduced G∗/sin δ values, reflecting a decrease in binder stiffness and a softening effect of the rejuvenators, which contributes to restoring the viscoelastic balance of the aged binder. FTIR results demonstrated that biomass-derived bio-oils, particularly those from pine cone and straw, effectively reduced carbonyl (C=O) and sulfoxide (S=O) functional groups, indicating strong chemical rejuvenation. SEM-EDS analyses showed that the heterogeneous and porous morphology of bio-oils promoted improved interaction with the asphalt binder. Based on the combined results of the three experimental approaches, the optimum rejuvenator dosages were identified as 25% for commercial products, 35% for pine cone and olive pomace bio-oils, and 45% for straw bio-oil. Overall, the findings highlight that biomass-derived bio-oils produced via pyrolysis offer a sustainable and performance-effective pathway for converting agricultural residues into value-added materials, supporting circular bioenergy and biomass utilization strategies.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Surface EMG-Based Hand Gesture Recognition Using a Hybrid Multistream Deep Learning Architecture
Çelik, Yusuf; Can, Umit
Surface electromyography (sEMG) enables non-invasive measurement of muscle activity for applications such as human–machine interaction, rehabilitation, and prosthesis control. However, high noise levels, inter-subject variability, and the complex nature of muscle activation hinder robust gesture classification. This study proposes a multistream hybrid deep-learning architecture for the FORS-EMG dataset to address these challenges. The model integrates Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN), depthwise separable convolutions, bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)–Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) layers, and a Transformer encoder to capture complementary temporal and spectral patterns, and an ArcFace-based classifier to enhance class separability. We evaluate the approach under three protocols: subject-wise, random split without augmentation, and random split with augmentation. In the augmented random-split setting, the model attains 96.4% accuracy, surpassing previously reported values. In the subject-wise setting, accuracy is 74%, revealing limited cross-user generalization. The results demonstrate the method’s high performance and highlight the impact of data-partition strategies for real-world sEMG-based gesture recognition.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Synergistic Effect of Cylindrical Fins and Phase Change Material on the Thermal and Economic Performance of a Double-Slope Solar Distillation Device Under Tunceli Climatic Conditions
Tuğan, Volkan; Işık, Erdem; İnallı, Mustafa
Global water scarcity driven by population growth, climate variability, and rising freshwater demand increases the need for more efficient solar desalination systems. In this study, a double-slope solar distillation device supported by a phase change material pool was developed to improve freshwater production. The phase change material layer was placed directly beneath the absorber plate to store excess thermal energy during peak solar radiation and release it during low-radiation periods. To strengthen thermal interaction between the absorber surface and the storage medium, cylindrical fins were embedded within the phase change material pool. The development of a double-slope solar distillation device integrated with a finned phase change material pool, and the simultaneous comparison of the thermal efficiency and economic analyses of single-slope and double-slope solar distillation devices under the same climatic conditions, are the prominent features of this study. Additionally, the performance of solar distillation devices has not previously been investigated under the climatic conditions of Tunceli, which further motivates this research. The developed system reached a peak freshwater productivity of 2459.2 g/m2/day, providing a 21.4% enhancement over the conventional configuration. In addition, the thermal efficiency increased from 17.7% in the conventional unit to 21.4% in the phase change material-assisted design. The economic analysis showed that the cost of distilled water was $0.097/kg for the conventional system and $0.105/kg for the proposed system, with the corresponding payback periods being approximately 11 and 12 months, respectively.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Comprehensive Analysis of Phytochemical Compounds in Seeds of Indigenous Grape Varieties Cultivated in Southeastern Anatolia: Fatty Acids, Tocopherols, Phytosterols, Vitamins, and Antioxidant Properties
Odabaşioğlu, Mehmet İlhan; Çakır, Atilla; Karaca Sanyürek, Nesrin; İşlek, Fırat
Aim: In this study, the phytochemical composition of the seeds of twelve different local grape (Vitis vinifera L.) varieties traditionally cultivated in the Southeastern Anatolia Region (Diyarbakır, Türkiye) was investigated using a holistic approach. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the associations of the effects of berry skin colour, the ripening stage and utilization type on the fatty acid profile, tocopherol and phytosterol contents, vitamin K and D levels, antioxidant capacity (DPPH) and lipid peroxidation (MDA) of grape seeds. Method: The seeds of grape varieties belonging to four different colour groups, grown on their own roots, were harvested during the 2017 growing season and analysed. Fatty acid composition was determined by gas chromatography (GC), vitamin and phytosterol contents by HPLC-UV, MDA content by the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) method, and antioxidant capacity by the DPPH radical scavenging assay. Findings: Linoleic acid was identified as the predominant fatty acid in all varieties (53.68–67.06%), followed by oleic acid (13.80–27.32%). α-Tocopherol was identified as the predominant tocopherol form (1.597–4.703 mg kg−1), whilst β-sitosterol was the phytosterol component present at the highest level (915.67–3340.42 µg g−1). Statistically significant varietal differences were detected for most measured phytochemical parameters. Group-wise differences associated with berry skin colour and ripening stage were observed for selected traits. Overall, varietal differences appeared to be more pronounced than those associated with berry skin colour or ripening stage. It was observed that the differences in phytochemical composition between the various commercial classifications of grapes were very limited. Result: The findings reveal that the seeds of the local grape varieties studied exhibit a rich phytochemical profile and represent an important source of bioactive compounds that could be utilised, particularly in the functional food, nutraceutical and cosmetics industries. The ‘Tahannebi’ variety stood out as the one with the highest values across many parameters. Differences observed among samples of the same cultivar collected from different vineyards suggest that vineyard-specific conditions may contribute to variation in selected phytochemical traits. Future multi-year and multi-location studies are needed to confirm the stability of these phytochemical profiles and to further clarify genotype × environment interactions.

Karacahan, Mehmet Kayra
This study used a solvent extraction technique with AcorgaOPT5510 extractant in kerosene to examine the extraction of copper ions from the actual leach solution produced after leaching malachite ore in sulfuric acid solutions. On the Cu/Fe separation factor and the effectiveness of copper extraction, the impacts of significant parameters, including stirring speed, contact duration, extractant concentration, beginning solution pH, and temperature, were examined. The following values were chosen as the optimal ones: 1:1, 1.5, 12%, 20 °C, 10 min, 10 min, and 500 rpm for maximum Cu2+ extraction from the aqueous-phase, aqueous/organic phase ratio, equilibrium pH of the aqueous phase, extractant concentration, temperature, contact time, settling time, and stirring speed. Under these conditions, 94% of the copper in the leach solution was removed, yielding about 40.09 Cu/Fe separation factor. A McCabe-Thiele plot was revealed, and it was shown that a two-step extraction procedure would yield the best results. Furthermore, employing a sulfuric acid concentration of 4 mol·L-1 for 10 minutes, the loaded organic phase was stripped and recovered 91% copper.

Type 316L stainless steel (316L-SS) is widely recognized for its exceptional corrosion resistance, making it a preferred material in various industries. However, conventional stainless steel materials are inadequate for radiation shielding applications. While oxide dispersion-strengthened alloy composites with a 316L-SS matrix have been extensively studied in the literature for their mechanical creep properties, their radiation shielding capabilities remain insufficiently explored. This study investigates the potential of samarium oxide (Sm2O3) doped to improve the structural, physical, mechanical, and radiation shielding properties of 316L-SS composites. Samples containing 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20% Sm2O3 by weight were synthesized and extensively characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. These analyses revealed enhanced homogeneity and refined grain structure with increasing Sm2O3 content. Gamma-ray and neutron shielding properties demonstrated significant improvements, particularly in composites with 20% Sm2O3 reinforcement, as evidenced by lower half-value layer and mean free path values, along with an increased fast neutron removal cross section. However, a trade-off was observed between radiation shielding performance and mechanical properties: As the Sm2O3 content increased, the elastic modulus decreased, indicating reduced stiffness due to the incorporation of Sm2O3. This trade-off suggests that while Sm2O3 reinforcement effectively enhances radiation shielding, it may not be ideal for structural applications requiring high mechanical strength. Nevertheless, these findings highlight the potential of Sm2O3-doped 316L-SS composites for nonstructural radiation protection systems, particularly in applications where improved shielding performance is prioritized over mechanical stiffness.

Ozdemir, Umit; Mete, Suleyman; Gul, Muhammet
Volunteers collaborate with professionals to provide institutional assistance in various areas; their management differs from that of professionals. To maximise volunteer productivity, categorising volunteers according to their knowledge and experience levels and distributing tasks increases volunteer retention and task efficiency. This study categorizes volunteers into four groups, fulfilling nine criteria identified through a literature review of search and rescue activities. TOPSIS-Sort and ORESTE-Sort (Optimist and Pessimist approaches) are employed in classification. Only one alternative is consistently assigned to the same class across all methods. While ORESTE-Sort offers greater flexibility and three distinct classification outcomes, it is more complex and sensitive to threshold values. TOPSIS-Sort, though simpler and producing a single classification, requires criterion weight. The Wilcoxon signed rank test is applied to evaluate the similarity between ORESTE-Sort and TOPSIS-Sort results; there are significant differences between the two methods. The study concludes by comparing the methods' applications, steps, and solution approaches, highlighting their respective advantages and disadvantages, and suggesting directions for future research.

Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, has been detected in the aquatic environment, but little is known about its effects on fish and other aquatic organisms. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ibuprofen on micronucleus levels in erythrocytes and whole-body antioxidant parameters of carp (Cyprinus carpio) fry. Fish were exposed to immersion in two different doses of ibuprofen concentrations (50 and 250 μg/L) for 24, 48, 72 and 96 h and 14 days. No mortalities occurred in any group during the test. Abnormal behaviours such as irregular swimming, loss of balance and hanging vertically in the water were observed in some fish exposed to acute toxicity. In this study, a significant increase in the micronucleus number of red blood cells was observed throughout the study period (p < 0.05). Antioxidant parameters were measured spectrophotometrically. Results obtained showed that ibuprofen significantly increased (p < 0.05) malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, glutathione S-transferase (GST) and catalase (CAT) activities, but decreased (p < 0.05) the glutathione (GSH) levels of whole-body carp fry in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, ibuprofen significantly increased MDA, GST and CAT levels, but increased the GSH levels of whole-body carp fry in a time-dependent manner. These results indicate that carp fry is sensible to human pharmaceutical agents in aquatic environments. The manner and the constructed interactions between ibuprofen and two protein targets (immunoglobin and haemoglobin) were investigated using molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation. The results indicated that ibuprofen could affect the haemoglobin activity. Finally, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity analysis was performed to examine the drug potential of the studied molecules.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Radiation shielding performance of (SmEuYbLaEr)2TaO4 high-entropy oxide reinforced Cu matrix composites
Taşgın, Yahya; Yılmaz, Demet; Kanca, M. Sait; Kök, Mediha; Yayla, Nihal; Güler, Ömer
High-entropy oxides (HEOs) containing rare earth elements are attracting increasing interest due to their thermal stability and potential for use in radiation shielding applications. In this study, the high-entropy oxide (SmEuYbLaEr)2TaO4 was synthesized via mechanical alloying (MA) followed by calcination and incorporated into a Cu matrix at different reinforcement levels to produce volumetric composites. Structural, thermal, and microstructural analyses confirmed the successful formation of a stable HEO phase and its effective dispersion within the Cu matrix. The radiation shielding performance of the composites was experimentally evaluated over a wide range of photon energies using standard gamma-ray sources. The results showed that shielding performance depends largely on both photon energy and HEO content. Increasing the HEO concentration significantly reduced the half-value layer (HVL) while substantially increasing the mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) and radiation protection efficiency (RPE), particularly in the low- and medium-energy regions where the photoelectric effect is dominant. Among the materials studied, the Cu composite containing 20 wt% HEO exhibited the best overall shielding performance. These results demonstrate that (SmEuYbLaEr)2TaO4 is an effective additive for improving the radiation shielding capability of Cu-based composites and highlight its potential for advanced radiation protection applications.

Rainbow trout aquaculture is challenging due to the restricted spawning seasons. Sperm cryopreservation technology can help ensure a successful spawning season, but its effectiveness is restricted by oxidative stress during freezing and thawing, which reduces the availability of male gametes. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of several types and concentrations of antioxidants on post-cryopreservation rainbow trout sperm quality. Subsequently, a factorial completely randomized design with three replications was applied, testing four types of antioxidants Ascorbic acid, Myo-inositol, Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and Alpha-tocopherol at concentrations of 0, 20, 40, and 60 mM, respectively. The evaluation parameters included motility rate, sperm lifespan, and sperm motion characteristics using the Computer Assisted Sperm Analysis system. The results showed that the type and concentration of antioxidants significantly affected sperm motility and sperm lifespan (P<0.05). The treatment method carried out using 40 mM Ascorbic acid and 20 mM BHT led to the highest sperm motility of 46.67% and sperm lifespan of 34 seconds. Although both antioxidants showed similar effectiveness, BHT at a concentration of 20 mM is more recommended due to its lower toxicity and technical as well as economic efficiency considerations.

There were errors in the original publication [1]. In Abstract and Introduction, any reference to “heat transfer (HT) irreversibility,” “fluid friction (FF) irreversibility,” or “Bejan number” is erroneous and should be removed. Any reference to “wave number” should be corrected to “zigzag number,” which is the relevant parameter in the study. The corrected Abstract and the corrected sentence in the last paragraph of the Introduction appear below, respectively. In a magnetic field, two-dimensional (2D) mixed convection is investigated within a zigzagged trapezoidal chamber. The lower side of the trapezoidal chamber is irregular, in particular, a zigzagged wall with different zigzag numbers N. The fluid particles move in the room due to the motion of the upper wall, while the porosity-enthalpy approach represents the melting process. The thermal parameters of the fluid are enhanced by what is called a nano-encapsulated phase change material (NEPCM) consisting of polyurethane as the shell and a nonadecane as the core, while water is used as the base fluid. In order to treat the governing equations, the well-known Galerkin finite element method (GFEM) is applied. In addition, the heat transfer (HT) and the dynamic behavior of flow are treated in terms of average Nusselt number and contours of streamlines. The main results show that the melt band curve of heat capacity behaves almost parabolically at smaller values of Reynolds number (Re) and larger values of Hartmann number (Ha). Moreover, minimizing the zigzag number is better in order to obtain a higher heat transfer rate. In addition, a comparative study of the heat transfer and the dynamic behavior of flow in terms of average Nusselt number and contours of streamlines has been presented. In Section 2.1. Mathematical Modeling and Equations, Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4, the term of porosity must be added to the momentum equations. The Equations (2), (3), (8) and (9) should be updated to the following: (Formula presented.) (Formula presented.) (Formula presented.) (Formula presented.) In Section 2.1. Mathematical Modeling and Equations, Paragraph 4, Paragraph 5 and Paragraph 9, there is no cylinder inside the cavity, and any reference to a “cylinder” or “diameter D” is incorrect and should be disregarded. The pressure in Equation (6), the Reynolds Number in Equation (11) and the definition for the average Nusselt number at the zigzag wall in Equation (16) should be updated to the following: (Formula presented.) (Formula presented.) (Formula presented.) The authors state that the scientific conclusions are unaffected. This correction was approved by the Academic Editor. - MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Using Decision Tree and K-Means to Improve ANFIS for Predicting Missing Flow Data in Çoruh Basin
Acar, Ramazan
Complete and continuous flow data provides contributions to the water resources projects appropriate design. However, both financial and technical factors prevent the regular collection of data and such a situation leads to missing data problems. Input variables are from five stations in the Çoruh Basin in the northeast province of Türkiye, and output variables are from one station. In the study, 75% (171 months of data) of the 228 months flow data between the years 1993–2011 are used in the training phase and 25% (57 months of data) in the testing phase. In the ANFIS models, Decision Tree (DT) and K-means (KM) methods are used in selecting the input variables and determining the number of membership functions. In addition, artificial neural network (ANN), multiple linear regression (MLR), and ANFIS models with randomly determined cluster numbers are also used to compare the model performance of these methods. The results show that using DT and KM methods, the ANFIS models generate more reliable results than other models. During the study, the regression coefficient (R2), weighted mean square error (WMSE), and Wilcoxon (Z) values are taken into account for reliability measure. The DT–K-means–ANFIS model achieved the highest accuracy with R2 = 0.98 and WMSE = 5.89 during the testing phase, demonstrating superior performance to the ANN and MLR models. It is shown that the most successful models can be determined in a shorter time by using DT and KM methods before generating ANFIS models.

- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Nutraceuticals in Uro-Oncology: A Structured Expert Review and Precision-Oriented Framework
Erten, Fusun; Kalemoglu, Ecem; Kucuk, Omer; Sahin, Kazim
Urologic malignancies (UMs), including prostate cancer (PCa), bladder cancer (BCa), renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT), are governed by interconnected molecular pathways that regulate proliferation, angiogenesis, metabolism, invasion, immune escape, and treatment resistance. Key pathways include PI3K/AKT/mTOR, VEGF/VEGFR, EGFR, FGFR, c-MET, androgen receptor signaling, DNA damage response, inflammatory transcriptional programs, and regulation of the tumor microenvironment. This structured expert review evaluates mechanistic, translational, epidemiological, and clinical evidence on food- and botanical-derived nutraceuticals that may influence cancer-related signaling, redox balance, inflammation, metabolic adaptation, and host–tumor interactions. Nutraceuticals are considered investigational adjunctive exposures rather than anticancer treatments or alternatives to standard care. Relevant literature was identified through a structured, non-systematic search of PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, and Embase from database inception to 17 June 2026, supplemented by backward and forward citation searches. Eligible evidence comprised preclinical, observational, interventional, pharmacokinetic, formulation, safety, and drug–nutraceutical interaction studies. Evidence was evaluated by cancer type, compound class, molecular context, formulation, exposure, translational maturity, and safety, and was classified into five stages: prevention signal, mechanistic plausibility, bioavailability and exposure feasibility, exposure-linked biomarker activity, and clinical benefit. An exposure–species–compartment framework was used to assess whether parent compounds and relevant metabolites reached systemic, urinary, or target-tissue concentrations compatible with the proposed effects. Findings based solely on supraphysiological concentrations of unconjugated parent compounds were considered hypothesis-generating unless supported by human exposure or tissue-distribution data. Curcumin, green tea catechins, isoflavones, carotenoids, flavonols, stilbenes, and triterpenoids affect several cancer-related pathways, primarily in experimental models. Translation to clinical practice is constrained by inconsistent formulations, limited bioavailability, inadequate target-tissue exposure data, few biomarker-linked studies, and possible interactions with anticancer therapies. PCa and BCa provide the most suitable settings for exposure-verified mechanistic studies. In RCC, safety and treatment interactions should be prioritized, whereas in TGCTs, non-interference with curative cisplatin-based therapy must be demonstrated. Future studies should use chemically defined formulations, verify clinically relevant exposure, incorporate mechanism-matched biological-response endpoints, and confirm compatibility with established treatment. Current evidence does not support nutraceuticals as treatments for urologic malignancies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2A Deep Learning Framework for Local Earthquake Magnitude Estimation Using Three-Component Waveforms
Çelik, Yusuf
This study presents a two-stage deep learning framework for accurate and generalizable estimation of local earthquake magnitudes from three-component seismic waveforms, within the context of ground-based remote sensing systems. In the first stage, phase transition boundaries are identified at the sample level to enable consistent temporal alignment of the signals. In the second stage, earthquake magnitude estimation is performed using 30 s waveform segments aligned with the early portion of the signal and enriched with spectral and statistical features. The model was initially trained on the globally diverse dataset STEAD and later fine-tuned using a subset of KOERI waveforms, and its performance was evaluated on an independent KOERI test set. The results demonstrate high prediction accuracy, with a mean absolute error of approximately 0.09 and a coefficient of determination (R2) of about 0.95, indicating strong agreement between predicted and true magnitudes. The model maintains stable performance across varying signal characteristics and geographic regions, highlighting its strong transferability. These findings suggest that seismic sensor networks can be effectively utilized as remote sensing systems for rapid and reliable earthquake characterization.

Gül, Ali Oktay; Gökhan Albayrak, M.; Güler, Ömer; Özkul, İskender; Baykal, Duygu Sen; Almisned, Ghada; Tekin, H.O.
This study addresses a fundamental materials design question for radiation-resistant superalloys: whether rare-earth (RE) oxides are more effective when incorporated individually or when introduced collectively in a high-entropy rare-earth oxide (HE-RE2O3) form. In this context, Inconel 718 (IN718) composites were reinforced with single RE2O3 phases such as Sm2O3, Tm2O3, Er2O3, Yb2O3, Eu2O3, and La2O3 at 10 wt% and with a mechanically alloyed HE-RE2O3 phase at 1-20 wt%. Structural analyses confirmed the formation of a single-phase HE-RE2O3 with a cubic bixbyite structure and its stable integration into the IN718 matrix. Gamma-ray shielding properties were systematically evaluated over a wide photon energy range. The HE-RE2O3 reinforced samples, particularly at higher loadings, exhibited consistently higher mass and linear attenuation coefficients, elevated effective atomic numbers, reduced half-value layers, and lower buildup factors compared to both the base alloy and single-oxide reinforced counterparts, demonstrating a clear collective attenuation effect. Fast neutron removal cross sections showed more moderate variations, reflecting the dominance of neutron scattering and mass-dependent interaction mechanisms rather than atomic number effects. It can be concluded that incorporating RE elements through a high-entropy oxide configuration provides a more effective and collective compositional contribution for enhancing the radiation shielding performance of IN718 than adding RE oxides individually, offering a promising pathway for advanced nuclear and radiation-relevant applications.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Quantifying agricultural resilience under climate variability: a data-driven climate resilience index for European cereal systems
Utku, Anil; Radulescu, Magdalena; Barut, Abdulkadir; Alofaysan, Hind
Climate variability and extreme weather events pose an increasingly serious threat to agricultural productivity in Europe. Although many studies have focused on the mean yield response to climate change, relatively few have attempted to offer a comprehensive, multi-dimensional view of agricultural resilience, separating long-term productivity trends from short-term climate-induced fluctuations. In this paper, a data-driven Climate Resilience Index is proposed to assess the resilience of European cereal systems under climate stress. Annual yield time series are decomposed into trend and anomaly components to identify interannual deviations driven by climate variability. Machine learning and deep learning algorithms, including RF, CatBoost, CNN, LSTM, TCN, and a TCN-LSTM hybrid model, are used to assess the predictive validity of climate extreme indices and persistence patterns. Among the evaluated models, the TCN-LSTM architecture achieved the highest predictive performance with 0.8347 R2, outperforming standalone temporal and ensemble-based models. The PCA-based exposure framework explained 68.4% of the total climate variability within the first principal component, indicating a highly concentrated climate-stress structure. Feature importance analyses further revealed that lagged yield anomalies and rolling volatility indicators were the dominant predictors of resilience dynamics. The findings show that temporal models perform better than traditional ensemble methods, emphasizing the significance of multi-year recovery mechanisms in anomaly evolution. To provide a consistent measure of exposure, principal component analysis is used to reduce correlated climate indicators into a multi-dimensional climate stress index. The CRI captures these three essential elements: climate exposure, yield variability, and recovery. The results at the country level show substantial variability across Europe, indicating that while exposure intensity is important, recovery dynamics are also critical to understanding resilience. The results also show that there are structurally distinct resilience profiles, and robustness tests indicate that country rankings are not sensitive to different weights and recovery functions. The results clearly show that recovery and adaptive capacity are critical to agricultural sustainability amid growing climate uncertainty. The CRI developed in this paper provides a clear, empirically valid framework for comparing resilience in agricultural systems.

In this study, a novel FeCoNiMnCu HEA was synthesized via mechanical alloying and exhibited a single-phase face-centered cubic (FCC) structure with a crystallite size of 11.7 nm and a lattice strain of 0.81 %. Magnetic characterization revealed soft ferromagnetic behavior with a saturation magnetization of 32 emu/g at 300 K, increasing to 53 emu/g at 10 K. The alloy demonstrated excellent gamma-ray attenuation, with lower half-value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) values than conventional shielding materials. Notably, its fast neutron removal cross-section (ΣR = 0.1654 cm−1) outperformed standard materials such as B4C, graphite, and water in the fast neutron energy range. These findings underline the multifunctional performance of FeCoNiMnCu HEA, highlighting its strong potential for use in advanced nuclear reactor components and radiation shielding technologies.

Research into generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the field of education has been growing rapidly in recent years. The rapid expansion of the literature has necessitated a systematic examination of the field. In this study, the thematic structure of GenAI research in the field of education during the 2023–2025 period was examined. Given the need to work with a large-scale dataset comprising 15,036 studies, a Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA)-based topic modelling analysis was selected. A search conducted on Scopus resulted in the inclusion of 15,036 studies in the analysis. The LDA analysis identified 12 prominent topics based on consistency scores. Descriptively, these prominent topics were grouped under four broad thematic areas. Among these axes, the technical axis holds the largest share (25%). It was observed that whilst technical topics were on the rise during the 2023–2025 period, topics such as ethics and chatbots showed a relative downward trend. The observed trends suggest that scholarly attention is increasingly directed towards technically oriented research. The findings also indicate a need for theoretical frameworks to ensure pedagogical depth. It is anticipated that the study’s findings will serve as an important reference point for future research. © The Author(s) 2026.
