The relationship between quiet quitting and turnover intention in nurses: A systematic review and meta- analysis

    Sezgin, Eray Ekin

Although some recent research has shown a positive association between quiet quitting and turnover intention among nurses, a thorough systematic review on this topic has yet to be conducted. Addressing the gaps in this area will provide a clearer understanding of the dynamics influencing nurses' turnover intentions and shed light on the development of future preventive strategies. This meta-analytic review aimed to integrate and critically assess the relationship between quiet quitting and turnover intention among nurses. All studies had a cross-sectional design and were conducted from 2023 onwards. A comprehensive search of six databases, including ScienceDirect, Medline, JSTOR, ProQuest, Scopus, and Web of Science, was conducted to gather empirical studies for this meta-analytic research. The results indicated a moderate, positive relationship between quiet quitting and turnover intention (r = 0.40, p < 0.0001). Furthermore, the overall effect size showed consistency, and the heterogeneity level (I² = 94.7%) was considered within acceptable thresholds. Further in-depth research is required to gain a clearer understanding of how quiet quitting influences turnover intention. To prevent quiet quitting, nursing managers should establish clinical guidelines and support programs that promote nurses' professional development and enhance their job satisfaction and commitment to the profession. In this way, nurses can achieve more satisfaction and motivation in their workplaces, and thus their turnover intentions can be reduced.

    Erdem, Ebubekir; Garipcan, Ali Murat

This study comprehensively examines security and performance-oriented selection and evaluation criteria for Random Number Generators (RNGs) used in cryptographic applications. The study analyzes the fundamental differences between Pseudo Random Number Generators (PRNGs) and True Random Number Generators (TRNGs). Within the scope of these analyses, entropy sources, statistical characteristics, and performance metrics, as well as their effects on security, are evaluated. The ability of TRNGs to meet high security requirements thanks to their hardware-dependent structures is compared with PRNGs, which offer software-based and low-cost solutions. The study evaluates various criteria ranging from minimum entropy tests to space and energy requirements. It also highlights the fundamental challenges encountered in the design and implementation of RNGs in cryptographic systems. Additionally, the fundamental security requirements encountered in RNG design and how these requirements can be met in practice are discussed in detail. In this context, PRNGs, TRNGs based on physical processes, and hybrid RNG designs are analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages of these different design paradigms are then presented in a comparative manner. In conclusion, this study delivers a framework that unifies security, performance, and design considerations for RNGs, setting a benchmark for future cryptographic research. As a result, this framework forms the foundation for the next generation of secure, efficient, and scalable cryptographic systems.

Regional Variations in the Physical and Rheological Properties of Asphalt Binders Recovered from Earthquake-Damaged Roads Following the February 6, 2023 Türkiye Earthquakes

    Furtana, Beyza

This study investigates the physical and rheological properties of asphalt binders recovered from earthquake damaged road sections in Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, and Malatya following the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in southern Türkiye (Mw = 7.8 and Mw = 7.5). Asphalt mixture samples were collected from severely deteriorated pavements, and bitumen was extracted through solvent extraction and rotary evaporation. The recovered binders were subjected to penetration, softening point, rotational viscosity, and Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) tests to evaluate aging, stiffness, high-temperature performance, and viscoelastic behavior. Results revealed significant regional differences: Hatay binders exhibited the lowest penetration, highest softening point, highest viscosity, and the greatest rutting resistance (high G*/sinδ values) while maintaining lower phase angles, indicating enhanced stiffness and elasticity. In contrast, Kahramanmaras binders showed the highest penetration, lowest softening point, and lower viscosity, combined with high phase angles, reflecting a softer, more viscous character with reduced deformation resistance. Malatya and Gaziantep binders displayed intermediate characteristics, with Malatya showing moderate stiffness and Gaziantep retaining greater flexibility. Across all samples, viscosity decreased markedly with increasing temperature, and rutting resistance diminished at higher service temperatures; however, binders with higher initial G*/sinδ values retained better performance. The findings highlight the influence of regional seismic intensity, climatic conditions, and pavement history on binder behavior and emphasize the need for region-specific maintenance and rehabilitation strategies in post-disaster pavement management.

Investigation of the Bioactivity Properties of TiZrCrNb0.3Ta0.07 Medium Entropy Alloy Produced from TNTZ Waste

Say, Yakup; Yayla, Nihal; Güler, Ömer; Güzel, Harun

High entropy alloys (HEAs) and medium entropy alloys (MEAs) have garnered significant attention as alternative materials in various fields due to their superior physical and chemical properties compared to conventional alloys. One of the most promising applications of this innovative material class is in biomaterials. In this study, a bio-medium entropy alloy (BioMEA), TiZrCrNb0.25Ta0.05, was successfully synthesized using non-toxic elements (Ti, Zr, Cr, Nb and Ta) through arc melting of TNTZ alloy waste. The produced BioMEA was comprehensively characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to analyze its structural and chemical properties. Additionally, the in-vitro degradation, ion release, and bioactivity properties of the alloy were evaluated and compared with those of the conventional TNTZ alloy, with a focus on the effects of heat treatment. The results demonstrated that heat treatment did not cause significant changes in the microstructure of the TiZrCrNb0.25Ta0.05 alloy but led to the formation of intermetallic compounds such as Cr2Zr and Cr2Ta on the surface. Degradation tests revealed an unexpected mass gain across all sample groups after a four-week immersion period due to surface precipitation, surpassing the expected mass loss from degradation. Ion release analyses showed similar behavior between the TiZrCrNb0.25Ta0.05 and TNTZ alloys, with ion release levels in the ppb range, confirming that Ti was released at non-toxic levels. Bioactivity tests identified low lesvels of Ca-P-O deposition on all sample surfaces, with the highest bioactivity observed in the heat-treated TiZrCrNb0.25Ta0.05 sample. Overall, the findings suggest that the TiZrCrNb0.25Ta0.05 alloy has the potential to serve as an alternative biomaterial to the TNTZ alloy, with its bioactivity properties being further enhanced through heat treatment. Further studies are recommended to optimize its bioactivity and evaluate its in-vivo performance for biomedical applications.

    Kutlu, Banu; Çetindağ, Serdar

Fluoride (F⁻) and nitrate (NO₃⁻) are common inorganic constituents of drinking water and can cause significant public health effects when present at inadequate or excessive concentrations. This study determines the levels of fluoride and nitrate in drinking water collected from 18 stations across Tunceli Province, Türkiye, during 2021, and evaluates the non-carcinogenic health risks for four age groups (infants, children, adolescents, and adults). Fluoride and nitrate concentrations were measured using spectrophotometric methods and Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) and Hazard Quotient (HQ) values were calculated. Fluoride concentrations ranged from 0.06 to 0.31 mg L⁻¹ and were below the WHO guideline value, with all HQ values <1. Nitrate concentrations varied more widely (0.45–64.38 mg L⁻¹), and exceedances of WHO limits were recorded at several rural stations. Infants and children exhibited HQ>1 values, indicating potential health risks associated with nitrate exposure. The findings highlight spatial heterogeneity in water quality across Tunceli and emphasize the need for age-specific monitoring programs and improved groundwater protection strategies.

Risk assessment in cheese production process using failure mode and effects analysis and intuitionistic fuzzy topsis

Ünlükal, Ceren; Şenel, Mine; Şenel, Bilgin; Avarbek, Kenan

The aim of this study is to evaluate the cheese production process, which plays a significant role in the milk and dairy industry, in terms of physical, chemical, and microbiological risks using the integrated Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS (IF-TOPSIS) methods. Although the classical FMEA method is a widely used analytical technique that helps identify and reduce potential risks in processes, it has some drawbacks: such as the possibility that different failure modes may have the same risk priority values (RPN) and risk factor weights. To address this shortcoming, the intuitionistic fuzzy set theory was used to determine the RPN values. This study aimed to identify failures that may occur at critical steps in the production chain, their possible causes, their impact on product quality, and the priority of preventive actions. The study demonstrates that the intuitionistic fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach is an effective tool for food safety and quality management in the dairy products industry.

Effects of Alternative Binder and Aggregate Use on the Compressive Strength of Concrete

    Gülmez, Nihan; Pala, Mustafa

The use of industrial wastes in concrete production is of significant importance in reducing environmental impacts and lowering costs. In this study, concrete mixtures were designed by using olivine minerals as a substitute for Portland cement (PC), chromite powder as fine aggregate, and ferrochromium slag as coarse aggregate. The effects of different binder and aggregate ratios on the compressive strength of the concrete were examined after a 7-day curing period. Experimental results showed that mixtures with 5% olivine substitution achieved the highest compressive strength of 22.30 MPa, particularly in mixtures with a cement dosage of 500 kg/m³. This result indicates that the low water/cement ratio and the addition of olivine contribute to increased early-age strength. Furthermore, increasing the chromite powder content to 20% in mixtures with a water/cement ratio of 0.61 led to an 11.7% increase in compressive strength, demonstrating the positive impact of chromite powder on the mechanical performance of the concrete. These findings highlight that cement replacements and aggregate types can significantly affect the mechanical properties of concrete, emphasizing the need for careful selection of both material compositions.

Application of GIS in Flood Risk Analysis and Mitigation Strategies: The Case of Uluova and İkitepe Streams

    Korkmaz, Meral; Uymaz, Muhammed

In recent years, the frequency and severity of floods have increased significantly due to the effects of global climate change, leading to serious economic and social losses, particularly in agricultural production areas. Floods not only damage cultivated lands but also negatively affect the livelihoods and socio-economic structures of local communities. This situation necessitates accurate identification of flood risk in agricultural areas and timely implementation of appropriate mitigation measures. In this study, flood risk was investigated in agricultural lands surrounding the Uluova Stream located between Doğankuş, Karşıbağ, and the Keban Dam and the İkitepe Stream, which flows through the center of Mollakendi in Elazığ Province, Türkiye. These areas are characterized by intensive agricultural activities. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), seven key parameters distance to streams, land use, aspect, slope, soil structure, precipitation, and geological features were analyzed, and corresponding thematic maps were generated. Flood risk levels were determined through spatial analysis and classification of these parameters using ArcGIS software. Based on the results, areas with high flood risk were identified, and both structural and non-structural mitigation measures were proposed for these zones. The findings offer valuable insights to support sustainable agricultural production and rural development by minimizing potential flood damages and reducing associated economic risks in the region.
