- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Modeling changes in the quality attributes of couscous cooked with ohmic heating
Sabanci, Serdal; Işık, Erdem; Goksu, Ali; Omaç, Basrı
Kinetic studies on the quality alters of couscous are crucial to the suitable design of ohmic heating treatment. Hence, it was targeted to build mathematical models to forecast the changes in quality attributes of couscous cooked using ohmic heating (OH) in the present study. In addition, the average power and total energy for cooking couscous with OH at a voltage gradient of 17 V/cm were determined. Three dissimilar kinetic models—zero, first, and second—were fitted to the data. Our findings showed that, for the ohmic heating system, as cooking time increased, energy consumption increased while heating system efficacy declined. The best model to reflect the changes in color parameters was the second-order model, while the zero-order model best fit the experimental data observed for the cooking loss, moisture content, and weight increase (%). For all TPA parameters, however, neither model yielded the greatest fit.

Zinc (Zn) is an essential micro mineral needed for the proper growth and immune function of fish. This investigation was designed to examine the antioxidant role of a fortified diet with different Zn levels in the muscle and liver tissues of carp fry. A four-iso-nitrogen (35% crude protein) practical diet was produced that included graded levels of dietary zinc sulphate as a nutritional zinc resource in the fundamental diet supplemented with increased zinc levels (T1, control, 85 mg Zn kg-1, T2 105 mg Zn kg-1, T3, 125 mg Zn kg-1 and T4, 145 mg Zn kg-1). Even though the SOD and CAT analysis results did not show a linear increase in the increasing Zn ratio in the diets, higher values were obtained compared to the control groups. SOD highest values in T3 for the liver (0.713 ± 0.220 U/ml) and T1 for muscle (0.751 ± 0.144 U/ml), CAT values were highest in T2 for the liver (0.849 ± 0.115 nmol/dk/m) and T2 for muscle (1.059 ± 0.148 nmol/dk/m) was obtained. MDA values were completely higher for the muscle than for the control group, and for the liver, a lower value was obtained in the T2 trial group than in the control group (1.671 ± 0.230 µM). The results of the study showed that Zn contributed significantly to the nutrition of carp fish. It can be concluded that the findings of SOD and CAT analysis endorse the positive contributions of using 105 mg Zn in the diets to promote the antioxidant defense of juvenile carp fish.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2024Automatic Classification of Defective Photovoltaic Module Cells Based on a Novel CNN-PCA-SVM Deep Hybrid Model in Electroluminescence Images
Imak, Andac
In today’s world, the rapid development of photovoltaic (PV) power plants has facilitated sustainable energy production. Maintenance and defect detection play crucial roles in ensuring the continuity of energy production. The manual inspection of electroluminescence (EL) images of PV modules requires significant human power and time investment. This study presents a method for the automatic fault detection of PV cells in EL images using hybrid deep features optimized with a principal component analysis (PCA) feature selection algorithm. A lightweight and high-performance model that combines the strengths of convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures was proposed. First, data augmentation techniques were employed owing to the imbalance between the defective and functional classes in the dataset containing EL images. In experimental studies conducted by integrating the PCA algorithm into MobileNetV2, DenseNet201, and InceptionV3 CNN models, accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score values of 92.19%, 92%, 90%, and 91%, respectively, were achieved. When the results were analyzed, it was observed that the proposed method was effective in detecting faults in PV panel cells.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2024Macro dynamics of inflation in the Turkish economy
Sarı, Sacit
This study analyzes the macroeconomic determinants of inflation, a significant economic issue in national economies, using monthly data from January 2006 to January 2023 for the Turkish economy. Understanding inflation and its influencing factors is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of disinflationary measures due to their adverse impacts on economic units. In this context, the relationship between inflation and selected macroeconomic variables was investigated for the Turkish economy. Based on the cointegration test results, it was established that the series are cointegrated. In the long term, money supply and interest rate variables positively impact inflation. Conversely, inflation is negatively impacted by the Industrial Production Index (IPI), which measures economic growth. This result indicates that increases in production capacity and economic growth reduce inflation. These findings suggest that the Turkish economy operates with underemployment and that monetary factors significantly impact inflation. The outcomes of the Granger causality analysis indicate a reciprocal causal relationship between inflation, money supply, and exchange rate.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024New Materialist Ecopoetics in Ian Hamilton Finlay’s Little Sparta: The Garden as a Living Text
Demir, Ayşegül
This article explores Ian Hamilton Finlay’s Little Sparta through the lens of New Materialism, presenting the garden as both an aesthetic space and an active agent that redefines human-nature relations. Central to this study are concepts like agential realism, vibrant matter, and intra-action, which highlight dynamic interactions between the garden’s installations and their surroundings. Rather than being solely shaped by human intervention, the garden evolves through natural processes—seasonal shifts, weather changes, and plant growth—making it a co-creative, living text. The study emphasizes Little Sparta’s role in challenging anthropocentric views by merging poetry with natural elements, thereby advocating a holistic understanding of ecological and cultural narratives. Through the integration of art and nature, the garden dissolves boundaries, illustrating interconnectedness and fostering environmental empathy. As a space of continuous interaction, Little Sparta positions itself as an ecopoetic landscape that prompts visitors to reconsider their role within ecosystems. This approach not only enhances aesthetic and ecological engagement but also demonstrates how New Materialist principles can transform our perceptions of both art and the environment.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Necropolitics and modernity: unveiling the ‘empire’s dirty work’ in heart of darkness, a passage to india and burmese days
Demir, Ayşegül; Kaygisiz, Ismail
Abstract This article examines the complex interplay between modernity, colonialism, and necropolitics as represented in Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, A Passage to India by E.M. Forster, and Burmese Days by George Orwell. These modernist texts not only critique the dehumanization and systemic extermination justified by colonial ideologies but also highlight the ways in which colonial power uses necropolitical strategies to govern life and death. By integrating Achille Mbembe's concept of necropolitics with Michel Foucault's theory of biopower, this analysis elucidates the racial and sovereign dynamics that both underpin and challenge colonial regimes. The paper contextualizes the relationship between modernism and colonial history, highlighting how modernist narratives reflect a crisis in the colonial agenda and embody Enlightenment ideals that have shaped the socio-political landscape of empires. These narratives offer a critical view of the dichotomy between the colonizer and the colonized, emphasizing the fractured and uncertain epistemological underpinnings of imperial logic. The examination of Conrad, Forster, and Orwell focuses on the ethical and psychological turmoil from colonial dominance, probing how colonialism justifies violence and subjugation. The study reveals how colonial powers exert necropolitical control, deciding who lives and who dies—a control that extends beyond physical dominance to the psychological colonization of minds, perpetuating colonial hegemony. Ultimately, this paper shows how modernist texts critique colonial necropolitics and expose the racial prejudices and biopolitical strategies essential for maintaining colonial regimes. These texts provide profound insights into the lasting impacts of colonialism on contemporary understandings of race, sovereignty, and resistance.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2024Hybrid CNN-LSTM Model for Accurate Long-Term and Short-Term Temperature Prediction: A Case Study for Bingöl and Tunceli
Utku, Anıl
Extreme and sudden weather events experienced with global warming and climate change reveal the importance of accurate air temperature prediction. For this reason, it can be used to optimize decision-making processes for a wide range of applications from health and agricultural planning to energy consumption strategies. Artificial intelligence methods are successfully applied in many application areas due to their flexibility and efficiency. Traditional weather forecasting models are inefficient in detecting sudden fluctuations and complex, irregular patterns in data. Artificial in-telligence methods overcome these limitations thanks to their ability to process big data and capture long-term temporal dependencies. In this study, the aim is to predict future temperature changes more accurately by capturing patterns in past data with the developed CNN-LSTM hybrid model. The developed hybrid model is compared in detail with RF, SVM, CNN, and LSTM. The compared models were tested using daily average temperature data between 1961-2024 and hourly temperature data between 2020-2024. Experiments have shown that CNN-LSTM outperforms the compared models with R2 value above 0.97 in all scenarios.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2024İklim Değişikliğinin Etkileri: Türkiye'de Yağış, Sıcaklık Anomalisi ve Su Kaynakları Üzerine Etkilerinin İncelenmesi
Korkmaz, Meral
