A Provincial Centre on the western border of Urartu: Palu Fortress

    Danismaz, Harun

Palu Kalesi is a fortress site situated in modern Elazig province. In the Middle Iron Age, this region was the western borderland of the Urartian Kingdom and the primary contact zone where political and cultural relations transpired between the Urartu and the neighbouring Neo-Hittite kingdoms. The site was also a strategically crucial military post that provided logistic support for the Urartian armies during their western expeditions. The fortress was built as a provincial centre shortly after the foundation of the Urartian Kingdom, and the settlement lasted for a long time until the fall of the kingdom. This study presents previously unrecognised archaeological remains, which were identified during our recent investigations at Palu Fortress. Our survey of the site revealed that the Middle Iron Age citadel consisted of two sectors, and the Lower Citadel was enclosed by sturdy fortifications and terrace walls reinforced with bastions. Moreover, while Urartian rock signs were already recorded at Palu, our investigations documented previously unknown rock signs at the site. In addition, other previously unrecognised features dating to the post-Urartian periods were identified by our recent investigations, including five single-roomed rock-cut tombs and two stepped rock-cut tunnels. To better understand the relationship of the archaeological features at the site, a topographic map of Palu Fortress was drawn and visible archaeological remains dated to the Urartian and post-Urartian periods were marked on this map. In addition, the multi-roomed tombs of the Urartian period were scanned using Lidar sensors, and Lidar data were used to generate 3D models and rectified plans of the tombs. Finally, a preliminary virtual 3D reconstruction of the Urartian period fortifications was generated on the basis of recently discovered remains.

Local site effects at the selected stations affected by the February 6 2023 Türkiye Earthquake Sequences

Ilhan, Okan; Indır, Onur; Muratoğlu, Gamze; İçen, Abdullah; Albayrak, Kubilay; Sandıkkaya, M. Abdullah; Askan, Ayşegül; Arduino, Pedro; Taciroğlu, Ertuğrul

This paper explores the applicability of one-dimensional (1D) nonlinear (NL) and equivalent-linear (EL) site response analyses (SRA) for characterizing site effects at selected strong ground motion stations impacted by the February 6, 2023 Türkiye earthquakes. The 1D NL simulations generally underestimate site response at softer sites and for long periods likely due to basin effects and the uncertainties associated with site properties and the 1D approximation. The inclusion of the high-frequency spectral decay parameter (κ0) in 1D simulations decreases the prediction bias of nonlinear SRA, especially at soft sites for short periods. Moreover, the theoretical transfer functions (TTFs) are demonstrated to capture the fundamental site period through in horizontal-to-spectral vertical ratio (HVSR) using ground motion data before and after the February 6, 2023 main event.

Unraveling the ecotoxicological effects of micro and nano-plastics on aquatic organisms and human health

Naz, Saima; Chatha, Ahmad Manan Mustafa; Khan, Nisar Ahmed; Ullah, Qudrat; Zaman, Faisal; Qadeer, Abdul; Khan, Ibrar Muhammad; Danabas, Durali; Kiran, Azka; Skalickova, Sylvie

Plastic pollution ranks among the most severe environmental disasters caused by humans, generating millions of tonnes of waste annually. The extensive and unregulated use of plastics has led to ecotoxicity and environmental imbalance. Microplastics (MPs) are prevalent in aquatic environments, and these MPs further degrade into even smaller particles known as nano-plastics (NPs). Both MPs and NPs impact the environment by readily absorbing organic pollutants and pathogens from their surroundings, owing to their bigger surface area to volume ratio. This review focuses on the source of origin, bioaccumulation, and potential impact of MPs and NPs on aquatic organisms and human health. Additionally, the review explores various methods employed for identification and quantification of these particles in aquatic ecosystems. Sufficient information is available on their characteristics, distributions, and effects on marine ecosystems compared with freshwater ecosystems. For plastic particles <10 μm, more toxicological effects were observed compared with larger size particles, in aquatic life. Understanding the mechanism of action and ecotoxicological effects of micro/nano-plastics on the health of aquatic life across various trophic levels, as well as human health, is of utmost importance. We address knowledge gaps and provide insights into future research approaches for a better understanding of the interactive mechanisms between binary pollutants.

Koç, Emine; Baltacı, Nazlı; Yüksekol, Özlem Doğan; Gürel, Reyyan; Ulucan, Mihriban

Introduction: During pregnancy, sexual distress is common, but its prevalence and underlying factors require elucidation. This study was performed to investigate sexual distress in pregnant women. Methods: This research was designed as a descriptive and multi-center study. The study included 2365 pregnant women from 6 geographical regions of Turkey between April 1, 2022, and February 1, 2023. Data was collected using the “Pregnant Information Form” and “Female Sexual Distress Scale-Revised (FDS-R).” Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, analysis of variance, and the Pearson correlation test were used for data analysis. Results: Herein, 46.1% of pregnant women experienced sexual distress, and the mean FDS-R score of the study participants was 14.49. Participants who were dissatisfied with their sexual life before and during pregnancy (p < 0.001), those who did not have sexual intercourse during pregnancy (p < 0.001), those who experienced decreased sexual desire during pregnancy (p < 0.001), those who did not receive sexual education during pregnancy (p < 0.001), and those who experienced problems when engaging in sexual intercourse during pregnancy (p < 0.001) experienced more sexual distress. Sexual distress increased when the mean age and the number of pregnancies and children increased, whereas it decreased when the gestational week increased. Conclusions: Approximately half of the pregnant women included in the study experienced sexual distress. The findings highlight the importance of midwives and nurses encouraging pregnant women to discuss their sexuality. Policy implications: The findings of this study show that sexual distress during pregnancy is common and affected by some factors related to personal and sexual life during pregnancy. This result provides evidence of the need to develop culturally appropriate interventions and policies that include sexual partners in the context of improving pregnant women's sexual distress, sexual health, good family relationships and mental health.

Urban heat island patterns in garden cities: Putrajaya as a case study

Harun, Zambri; Akkurt, Nevzat; Khor, Yu King; Abbas, Ashraf A; Lotfy, Eslam Reda

The garden-city model, characterised by sprawling urban expansion and extensive open spaces, features green and water surfaces alongside substantial road networks, large parking lots and unshaded lands. This diverse landscape contributes to uneven air temperature distribution within the city. Our study investigated urban heat island (UHI) patterns in various urban environments within Putrajaya, focusing on rural, business, residential and near-water areas. Atmospheric data were collected over a year. Putrajaya exhibits two distinct UHI patterns: cool-day-hot-night in residential zones and hot-noon-temperate-elsewhere in impermeable areas. Business areas display alternating patterns based on seasonal climatic conditions and anthropogenic factors. The efficacy of artificial water bodies as a UHI countermeasure in garden cities depends on the size of the water body and the nature of the surrounding land cover. Shaded and green areas exhibit UHI intensities limited to 3°C, while impermeable areas, regardless of proximity to water surfaces, experience UHI up to 6°C. Overall, the garden-city model tends to restrict UHI variations within −1 to 3°C compared to −2 to 4°C in nearby Kuala Lumpur.

The RSM-CCD Optimization of Fenton Process for Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Determination of Treatment Efficiency Using Some Biochemical Responses in Dreissena polymorpha

Tanyol, Mehtap; Serdar, Osman; Ketenalp, Zozan; Yildirim, Nuran Cikcikoglu; Erguven, Gokhan Onder; Yildirim, Numan

The study investigated antioxidant biomarkers in Dreissena polymorpha to evaluate the efficiency of Fenton process (FP) in Organized Industrial Zone Wastewater (OIZW) treatment. Antioxidant enzymatic activities, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), non-enzymatic antioxidants (GSH) and the indicator of lipid peroxidation (TBARS) were measured in D. polymorpha in response to treated OIZW by FP. The performance of the FP has been optimized with response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum conditions (reaction time, and H2O2 and Fe2+ concentration) for OIZW by the FP process were determined. The results showed that the highest COD removal efficiency (83.94 %) was obtained when as Fe2+ concentration=402.35 mg/L, H2O2 concentration=4100.30 mg/L, and reaction time=10.10 min (desirability=1.000). SOD and CAT enzyme was decreased in the 1/25 diluted OIZW group compared to control group. CAT and SOD enzyme activities were increased after treatment compared to control groups. No statistically significant changes were observed in GSH levels and GPx activities. TBARS levels were increased 1/25 diluted OIZW exposure groups compared to the control group. TBARS levels were decreased after treatment. The results revealed that antioxidant parameters are useful biomarkers for determining the treatment efficiency of the FP.

A Method for Designing Substitution Boxes Based on Chaos with High Nonlinearity

    Artuğer, Fırat

Cryptography aims to design algorithms for the protection of important data transmitted over unsecured networks. These algorithms encrypt the data and render it incomprehensible even if it is captured by enemies. Today’s data encryption standard is the AES algorithm. The most important and nonlinear unit in the AES algorithm is the s-box structure. The S-box provides the mixing process in the algorithm, that is, the confusion. An s-box structure with a high nonlinearity value greatly increases the security against various attacks. Therefore, s-box is of vital importance in an encryption algorithm. When we look at the literature, chaos-based s-box structures are frequently used. However, the nonlinearity value of s-boxes produced with chaos is low. In this article, a new, fast, and very simple method is proposed to increase the nonlinearity value of chaos-based s-box structures. In the proposed method, the nonlinearity value is calculated by changing the places of the elements respectively. When the nonlinearity value increases, the s-box is updated, and the next element is passed. In this way, many iterations are not looked at in vain. This saves a lot of time. As a result of the analysis, it has been proven that the s-box structure obtained by the proposed method is cryptographically strong and has a high nonlinearity value. It is thought that the proposed method will provide many advantages for future cryptography applications.

Effect of White-Portland cement containing micro and nano silica on the mechanical and freeze-thaw properties of self compacting mortars

Etli, Serkan; Yılmaz, Tekin; Hansu, Osman

This study concentrated to investigate the influences of white-Portland cement (W-PC) containing silica fume (SF: micro-silica (µSi) and nano-silica (nSi)) as replacement (2–4 wt%) on mechanical (strength and durability), physical and microstructural behaviors of self-compacting mortars (SCMs) fabricated at 0.48–0.63 w/b ratios. In keeping with these purposes, besides of carrying out the workability (mini-slump flow: M−SF and V-funnel: V-F) experiments of SCMs, the mechanical and microstructural tests implemented were: unconfined compressive strength (UCS), flexural strength (FS), freeze–thaw (F-T) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. The outcomes displayed that, in comparison with the control, replacing W-PC by SF (particularly nSi) enhanced the UCS and FS, resisted against F-T durability by lowering the strength losses in UCS and FS. The ameliorated microstructure resulting in a reduction in the number and/or a narrowing in the size of micro-cracks and pores contributed to generate a more compact and consolidated SCM structure for the improving of strength and durability due of pore-filling effect and superior pozzolanic characteristics of µSi and especially nSi, this in turn reduced the permeability of SCM, which has a significant effect on the strength and durability behaviors of the SCM.

Phylogenetic analysis of the endemic Bornmuellera Hausskn. spp. (Brassicaceae) in Türkiye based on nuclear ITS and chloroplast trnL intron, trnL-F, rbcL and trnQ-rps16 DNA sequences

Okan, Kemalcan; Sevindik, Emre; Paksoy, Mehmet Yavuz

In this study, phylogenetic analysis of Turkish endemic Bornmuellera (Brassicaceae) species was conducted based on nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS) and chloroplast DNA (trnL intron, trnL-F, rbcL and trnQ-rps16 DNA) sequences. In addition, the relationships between the sequences of some Brassicaceae family species retrieved from NCBI, and Bornmuellera species were documented. All of the plant specimens were collected from different regions of Türkiye, and brought to the laboratory. Total genomic DNA was extracted using the GeneMark kit. After polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analyses, DNA sequences obtained were then edited using Sequencher 5.4, Bioedit 7.2.3 and FinchTV 1.4.0, and analyzed using MEGA 6.0 software. Maximum likelihood (ML) and bootstrap trees were constructed in order to identify the relationships among Bornmuellera species. In the study, the highest nucleotide diversity was detected by rps16-trnQ (0.039146) sequence analysis, while the lowest was detected by rbcL (0.004186) sequence analysis. In addition, according to the phylogenetic analysis results obtained with other Brassicaceae species, it is revealed that the Turkish endemic Bornmuellera genus is monophyletic.

A novel algorithm based on DNA coding for substitution box generation problem

    Artuğer, Fırat

Substitution boxes are very important for cryptographic structures. But getting an 8-bit strong s-box is a difficult problem. To address this problem, a new approach is proposed in this study. DNA chains are used in the proposed approach. First of all, a weak s-box is obtained with the help of a chaotic map. Then, a DNA chain is formed with the same chaotic map. In this study, 2000-long DNA chains were produced. Then, two random values consisting of four components are determined from these DNA chains, and these values are addressed to the s-box structure. By changing the places of these values, the s-box structure is improved up to a certain iteration. In this study, 10,000 iterations were examined, and three different strong s-boxes were obtained by using three different DNA chains. The nonlinearity values of these s-box structures were observed as 110.25, 110.5, and 110.75, respectively. The proposed study has proven to work effectively with effective results in three different chains. In addition, it has been proven as a result of the analysis that the proposed s-box structures also have other cryptographic features. The proposed algorithm has surpassed many s-box generation philosophies in the literature. In addition, the proposed algorithm will provide serious gains to cryptographic structures that will be developed in the future.

Degradation Products of Rhyolitic Rocks, Adsorption Applications, Isotherm Studies

    Fırat, Tülay; Sarıcı-Özdemir, Çiğdem

Heavy metals and their toxicity are a major global concern. They are one of the major environmental problems causing serious problems for living beings. In this study, the adsorption properties of a clay sample located in nature are improved by treating with different materials, and then adsorption properties are examined. It is observed that clay sample can be used in many adsorption applications, including the adsorption of heavy metals such as copper. The clay mineral used in the study was obtained from a rhyolite type rock. Rhyolite rocks, one of the degradation products of volcanic rocks, are the volcanic counterparts of granite. In this study, rhyolite rock was crushed with suitable crushers and grinders, then sieved under 200 mesh with molecular sieve and clay minerals were obtained. The clay samples (K1,K2. K8) were synthesized by subjecting clay with acid and base. Adsorption properties of clay are due to wide surface area, surface functional groups and microporosity. Adsorption of methylene blue and iodine, adsorption from aqueous solutions of copper are done with clay samples and results were compared with samples of clay have not undergone any pre-treatment. In the study, the highest adsorption capacity was determined by applying the Freundlich isotherm. In the K6 sample treated with a base, the highest adsorption capacity was calculated as 26.98 Lg−1. In contrast, the Langmuir isotherm results were calculated in the range of 10.56 to 11.86 Lg−1. This indicates that the adsorption takes place on a heterogeneous surface. The structure and surface properties of clay were examined.

Integrating discrete-event simulation and artificial intelligence for shortening bed waiting times in hospitalization departments during respiratory disease seasons

Ortiz-Barrios, Miguel; Ishizaka, Alessio; Barbati, Maria; Arias-Fonseca, Sebastián; Khan, Jehangir; Gul, Muhammet; Yücesan, Melih; Alfaro-Saíz, Juan-Jose; Pérez-Aguilar, Armando

Seasonal Respiratory Diseases (SRDs) usually produce a heightened number of Emergency Department (ED) attendances due to their rapid dissemination within the community and the ineffective prevention measures. Such a context requires effective management of the emergency care processes to provide in-time diagnosis and treatment to infected patients. Nonetheless, EDs have evidenced severe operational deficiencies during these periods, thereby provoking extended bed waiting times in Hospitalization Departments (HDs). Therefore, this paper presents a hybrid approach merging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Discrete-Event Simulation (DES) to shorten the bed waiting times in HDs considering patient records collated in the first emergency care stages. First, we implemented Random Forest (RF) to estimate the probability of respiratory worsening based on sociodemographic and clinical patient data. Second, we inserted these probabilities into a DES model mimicking the emergency care from the admission to the HD. We then pretested different HD configurations and strategies seeking to reduce the HD bed waiting time. A case study of a European hospital group was used to validate the suggested framework. The AI-DES model enabled decision-makers to identify an improvement proposal with hospitalization bed waiting time lessening, oscillating between 7.93 and 7.98 h.

Development of rare earth element and carbon fiber-based filler for polyethylene—Mechanical and thermal performance

    Kısmet, Yılmaz; Ayikurt, Pamuk

In the present study, three fillers produced with carbon fiber powder (CFP) and rare earth elements were developed for low-density polyethylene production. These fillers included CFP with a grain size of less than 400 microns and over 90% pure lanthanum and cerium oxides. Polyethylene was employed to ensure the thermoplasticity and homogeneity of the fillers. The fillers were mixed with the matrix material separately, first mechanically and then homogenously in the extruder, then the test bars were produced with an injection machine. In the mechanical tests, it was determined that the tensile strength of the test bars improved by ~20% and the elastic region increased due to the increasing amount of filler. Similarly, an improvement of about 40% in bending stress was realized. In addition, as the fluidity of the mixtures has improved, it has been possible to produce at lower temperatures and save energy in the production. Thermogravimetric analysis was conducted to determine the melting/crystallization temperatures and material losses in the compounds. The scanning electron microscope analysis showed that the fillers were irregularly distributed on the surface in parallel and perpendicular directions. In addition, x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy analyses were performed on the surfaces.

Investigation of the variation of mechanical and durability properties of elements manufactured with rubber substituted SCMs with element height

    Akgül, Melek; Etli, Serkan

Controlling the homogeneous distribution of granulated rubber materials added to self-compacting concrete/mortars along the height is of great importance in terms of preserving and defining the holistic behavior of structural elements. In this study, the effect of EPDMGR (ethylene propylene diene monomer granulated rubber) ratio (0 %, 5 %, 10 %, 15 %, 20 % and 25 %), test age, L/D (slenderness ratio) and element test zone (bottom, middle and top) on the mechanical properties (flexural and compressive), durability properties (porosity and sorptivity) of the elements produced with SCM were evaluated. The results obtained were statistically evaluated by GLM-ANOVA. It was observed that flexural tensile strength was strengthened up to 5 % substitution rate due to the hydrophobic properties and elasticity properties of EPDMGR used, while porosity values increased with height in the upper regions compared to the lower regions due to the placement properties of SCM. Differences in compressive strength appeared in the upper and lower sections after 5 % EPDMGR substitution. This indicates that for the mixture properties used, the properties examined in terms of mechanical and durability test results may have different properties with limited variability in terms of L/D ratio depending on the EPDMGR ratio used and the region where the element was taken.

A new post-processing approach for improvement of nonlinearity property in substitution boxes

    Artuğer, Fırat; Özkaynak, Fatih

The main reason that makes chaos theory attractive for cryptology studies is the unpredictable nature of chaotic systems. However, the fact that the statistical and cryptographical properties of cryptographic primitives based on the values obtained as a result of the electronic circuit implementation of a chaotic system are not as good as the designs based on mathematical transformations has occupied the agenda of researchers. One of the most striking examples of this problem in practical applications is substitution-box (s-box) structures. While the nonlinearity value is 112 for s-box designs based on mathematical transformations, this value is in the range of 103–106.75 for s-box designs based on random (chaotic) transformations. Thanks to the post-processing algorithm proposed in this study, it has been shown that this problem can be resolved and the nonlinearity values of chaos-based s-box structures can be improved up to 111.5. It is thought that the proposed post-processing algorithm may have various potential contributions not only to improve the nonlinearity criterion of s-box structures but also to other information security applications such as cryptographic random number generators in future studies.

Assessing Environmental Pollution and Noise Levels at End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Centers: A Comparative Study

Harun, Zambri; Akkurt, Nevzat; Hashim, Hashimah; Molla, Altaf Hossain; Cahyadi, Mokhamad Nur; Zuhal, Lavi R.

This study investigates the environmental impact of end-of-life vehicle (EL V) recycling operations by assessing pollution parameters and noise levels at formal and informal recycling centers compared to a green zone reference area. U sing an integrated monitoring system. This research measured concentrations of particulate matter (PM2.5, PMlO), nitrogen dioxide (N02), carbon dioxide (C02), ozone (03), and noise levels at selected sites in Selangor, Malaysia. Results reveal elevated pollutant concentrations and noise levels at both formal and informal EL V recycling centers relative to the green zone reference area. Diurnal variations in pollutant levels highlight the influence of operational activities and atmospheric conditions. The findings underscore the need for stringent regulatory measures and pollution control strategies to mitigate environmental and health risks associated with EL V recycling activities and promote sustainable practices in the recycling industry.

Parameterizing Haverkamp Model From the Steady-State of Numerically Generated Infiltration: Influence of Algorithms for Steady-State Selection

Autovino, Dario; Bagarello, Vincenzo; Iovino, Massimo; Lassabatere, Laurent; Yilmaz, Deniz

BEST (Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters) methods of soil hydraulic characterisation are widely applied for estimating sorptivity, S, and saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks. Calculating these properties requires choosing the β and γ parameters of the Haverkamp infiltration model. These parameters can be obtained from numerically simulated three-dimensional (3D) infiltration runs reaching steady-state. This investigation tested dependence of the estimated β and γ parameters on the algorithm for steady-state selection using simulated 3D cumulative infiltrations for different soils and initial conditions. Two algorithms used the original simulation outputs and included using (i) a threshold defining steadiness (T-algorithm) and (ii) the last four data points, yielding a reference value of steady-state infiltration rate (R-algorithm). A third algorithm, similar to the R-algorithm, was applied to previously re-sampled infiltration data at fixed time intervals (RR-algorithm). The intercept, bs, of the straight line fitted to the data describing steady-state on the cumulative infiltration plot depended on the applied algorithm more than the slope of this line. Consequently, β varied with the applied algorithm more than γ. The RR-algorithm, yielding 0.62 ≤ β ≤ 1.99 and 0.74 ≤ γ ≤ 0.98, was preferred since it mediated between advantages and disadvantages of T- and R-algorithms. The influence of the choice of proper values for β and γ on the estimates of S and Ks was evaluated using BEST. Using the default values of β (0.6) and γ (0.75) yielded accurate estimates of S but not of Ks. Soil dependent β and γ values should be used in this case. A check of the reliability of the estimates of bs can be made by a sequential analysis of the cumulative infiltration data. Future developments include considering sources differing in size and establishing if the suggested β and γ values apply in general to the available BEST algorithms.

New sulfa drug derivatives and their zinc(II) complexes: synthesis, spectroscopic properties and in vitro cytotoxic activities

Şahal, Hakan; Öz, Samet; Keskin, Tuba; Tekin, Suat; Canpolat, Erdal; Kaya, Mehmet

Synthesis of four sulfa drug derivatives (L1–L4) and Zn(II) complexes derived from sulfonamide group antibiotic substances was carried out using the hydrothermal technique (HT) and their structures of the obtained compounds were explained using elemental analysis (EA), FT-IR and NMR (1H- and 13C-). Cytotoxic activities of four novel sulfa drug based-Schiff base compounds and their Zn(II) complexes were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay using MCF-7 (human breast cancer), Caco-2 (human colorectal adenocarcinoma), A2780 (human ovarian cancer) and LNCaP (human prostate adenocarcinoma) cell lines. LogIC50 values of all obtained compounds were computed with the Graphpad Prism 6 program after 24 h of treatment for MCF-7, Caco-2, A2780 and LNCaP cells. Comet assay experiments were performed using LogIC50 concentrations of all compounds to determine DNA damage. Based on the data obtained, all compounds significantly decreased MCF-7, Caco-2, A2780 and LNCaP cell viability compared to the control groups (p < 0.05).

Effect of curing conditions on cement based self-compacting mortar produced with mortar waste aggregate

    Akgül, Melek

Concrete and mortar wastes, which have a large volume and economic value among construction demolition wastes, are the most targeted demolition waste group to be recycled. An important area where construction demolition waste can be utilized is self-compacting mortar (SCM) systems. SCMs are innovative and economical systems designed to minimize the labor requirements that are difficult to meet in the production process. In this study, mortar waste aggregate (MWA) obtained by mechanical crushing and grinding was used in SCM elements by substituting different ratios (5-10-20-30-40 %) by mass to aggregate. In this way, it was aimed to evaluate both the sustainability of MWAs and the usability of MWAs in SCMs, which are considered as a new production technology. The fresh and hardened mortar tests performed in the study are presented comparatively. The physical (dry unit volume weight, porosity), durability (capillary water absorption) and mechanical properties (flexural tensile, compressive strength) of the hardened SCM elements are based on the determinations made at 3, 7 and 28 test days and according to different curing conditions (water curing, air curing and heat curing). In addition, X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) analysis was performed on specimens obtained from 0 %, 10 %, 20 % and 40 % MWA substituted specimens after heat curing (after 7 days water curing) and 28 days water curing. In the light of the data obtained, it is reported that SCM production with 10 % MWA substitution is feasible in terms of sustainability and engineering properties evaluated in this study.
