The fertilization and subsequently embryo and larvae development are linked to gamete quality and FA (fatty acid) content is one of the specific factors affecting egg or sperm quality. Hence, FA profile of gametes (egg and sperm) was documented in brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) under cultivation. FAs were detected and measured using gas chromatography. These results indicated that a total of 26 and 22 FAs were determined in egg and sperm, respectively. The levels of PUFAs were determined in nearly identical quantities in both egg (47.57%) and sperm (47.53%). DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), LA (Linoleic acid), EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and ARA (Arachidonic acid) were predominant PUFAs for egg and sperm. Interestingly, vaccenic acid (C18:1 n-11) (24.07%) was major FAs in egg. In conclusion, the analysis of fatty acids in broodstock gametes contributes valuable insights into the dietary requirements necessary for effective aquaculture breeding programs.

Han, Ayşegül; Pehlivan, Ceren; Konat, Gökhan; Koncak, Ahmet
This study examines the impact of green innovations on environmental sustainability in BRICS-T countries between 2008 and 2021. Using indicators such as renewable energy consumption, R&D investments, industrial design activities, and carbon emissions, the analysis employs both conventional and spatial panel estimation techniques. The findings reveal that investments in renewable energy play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and positively contribute to environmental sustainability. However, the effectiveness of environmental innovation policies and R&D expenditures in mitigating emissions remains limited, particularly in the short term. Additionally, industrial design activities are identified as a significant contributor to rising emissions, highlighting the need for a transition toward more sustainable industrial practices. The study also uncovers spatial dependencies among countries, demonstrating that carbon emissions in one nation can influence those in neighboring countries, emphasizing the necessity of regional cooperation and coordinated environmental policies. Based on these findings, the study provides policy recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of green innovations, stressing the importance of increasing investments in renewable energy, aligning R&D expenditures with environmentally sustainable technologies, and promoting sustainable industrial practices across BRICS-T countries.

Green synthesis is a prominent procedure used to easily and environmentally friendly fabricate nanostructures and nanoparticles (NPs), without complex instrumentation, intricate procedures, and harmful chemicals. This study investigated the green synthesis of silver NPs (AgNPs), with Aronia melanocarpa fruit extract as the reducing agent. Following synthesis optimization, AgNPs were characterized using a range of analytical techniques, including UV–Vis, XRD, SEM-EDX, BET, and TEM analyses. Based on the characterization results, an Ag/AgCl hybrid structure was formed. The Ag/AgCl NPs obtained were utilized as adsorbents to remove Cd(II) and Pb(II) heavy metals. The experimental factors that were optimized included pH (5.5), sample volume (5 mL), eluent type and concentration (2 M HNO3), adsorbent amount (5 mg), and extraction time (30 min). Under optimized conditions, the limits of detection were determined to be 9.6 and 4.8 µg/L for Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively. These limits were established within a concentration range of 50–3,000 µg/L.

Ataş, Kübra; Kaya Mutlu, Ebru
Introduction: Primary headaches, particularly migraine and tension-type headaches, as chronic and painful conditions, have a significant impact on individuals' health and overall quality of life, including aspects such as sexual health parameters. Objectives: The aim of this study was to review observational studies and to summarize the presence of sexual dysfunction in patients with primary headache and to discern whether it is more common in patients with primary headache than in healthy control subjects. Methods: Observational studies published between January 1, 2000, and May 21, 2023 were searched in Medline (PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, and EBSCO. This review included 23 observational studies that evaluated sexual dysfunction with or without comparison with healthy control subjects. Results: As a result, the mean Female Sexual Function Index score, a score of <26.55 indicating sexual dysfunction, ranged from 19.25 ± 8.18 to 27.5 ± 7.5 in patients with primary headache. The prevalence of sexual dysfunction and erectile dysfunction was found to be between 10.7% and 93.75% in female patients and between 54.83% and 80% in male patients. Both migraineurs and tension-type headache sufferers had statistically significantly lower sexual function scores in females and lower erectile function scores in males compared with healthy control subjects. Conclusion: Sexual function is significantly affected in patients with primary headache, which is a chronic painful disorder. Therefore, it is very important to ask these patients about their sexual health and, if necessary, to seek support from a sexual health professional. Additionally, future studies may prioritize tension-type headaches and male patients due to the limited amount of research available on these subjects.

Susam, Selim Orhun; Hudaverdi, Burcu
A gene network represents the relationship between different groups of genes with various functions, aiming to depict how genes collaborate and influence each other’s activities within a biological system. This relationship can be effectively explained using copulas. Therefore, it is crucial to determine which copula best fits the gene data and provide the most accurate explanation of the relationships between gene groups. In this study, our objective is to introduce a Spearman dependence function-based goodness-of-fit test using Bernstein polynomial approximation. We apply this test to identify a copula model that can effectively explain the relationships between gene groups. A Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the proposed test. Next, we analyse histone gene groups using data from yeast cell regulation, as provided by Eisen et al. (1998). Specifically, we investigate the dependence model structures of gene interactions for eight histone genes.

Dimethoate (DMT) pesticide is one of the chemicals used to protect some agricultural areas from harmful organisms. DMT residues released directly or indirectly to the environment cause serious problems in nature. DMT residues mixed with the aquatic environment adversely affect aquatic organisms and this effect is carried to humans through the food chain. In this study, oxidative stress responses induced by DMT pesticide in Pontastacus leptodactylus were investigated. For this purpose, oxidative stress and antioxidant parameters Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), Glutathione (GSH), Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) caused by dimethoate (DMT) pesticide in P. leptodactylus at 17.5, 35, and 70 mg·L-1 concentrations at 24 and 96 hours were investigated. Results were determined using ELISA kits. No significant difference was observed in GSH levels and SOD activities compared to control. Statistically significant differences were observed between decreases in CAT and GPx activities and increases in TBARS levels. SPSS 24.0 package program one–way ANOVA (Duncan 0.05) was used in the evaluation of biochemical analyzes. As a result, it was determined that DMT caused oxidative stress formation in P. leptodactylus and caused changes in enzyme activities.

Kılıç, Aygün
This study aimed to investigate pre-service science teachers’ (PSTs') PCK levels regarding celestial bodies and the relationships between PCK components. The pre-service teachers’ PCK was analyzed in two ways: personal PCK (pPCK) and enacted PCK (ePCK). PSTs' topic-specific pPCK represented their declarative knowledge of PCK regarding celestial bodies, and their topic-specific ePCK represented their enacted competencies in teaching this science topic in the classroom. Pre-service teachers’ pPCK and ePCK were examined through four components: science curriculum, students’ understanding, instructional strategy and method, and assessment. 22 PSTs participated in the study, and data on pre-service teachers’ PCK was collected through interviews, field observation notes, and teaching video records. The study used two rubrics to analyze the data obtained regarding the PSTs' pPCK and ePCK. Accordingly, PSTs' levels of pPCK/components and ePCK/components revealed idiosyncratic and topic-specific differences. Furthermore, their pPCK and ePCK interact and the internal and mutual relationships between pPCK components and ePCK components are topic-specific. This study provides comprehensive and valuable information for teacher education programs by revealing the dynamic interaction between pre-service teachers’ knowledge and actions. It also highlights the need for more teaching experiences from the early years of these programs to improve their classroom practice.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Mechanisms of hardness enhancement in CrB2 thin films with varying VB2 concentrations
Yüzüak, G.D.; Tomakin, M.
Transition metal borides are well-known for their high hardness, excellent wear resistance, chemical inertness, and electrical conductivity, making them promising for a wide range of applications. Understanding the interconnections between material structure, composition, and mechanical properties is essential for designing and synthesizing effective coatings. This study systematically investigates the structural and mechanical properties of CrB₂ thin films with varying concentrations of VB₂ (0–10 wt%), focusing on structure, hardness, elastic behavior and deformation characteristics mechanisms through atomic force microscopy and nanoindentation measurements. The results show that increasing VB₂ content leads to the formation of island cluster structures, which significantly strengthens atomic bonds and, in turn, enhances the hardness of the thin films. As particle size decreases, the higher proportion of surface atoms and increased surface energy have a more pronounced effect on the mechanical properties. In particular, the addition of VB₂ up to 10 wt% in CrB₂ thin films results in a marked improvement in superhard properties. 26 % increase in hardness value is also influenced directly by the changes in Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio that depend on the VB₂ concentration.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2Assessment of seismic fragility of reinforced concrete buildings retrofitted with steel bracing elements: A numerical study
Tam, Gürkan; Yön, Burak
In this study, the effectiveness of reinforcement with steel diagonal elements in a reinforced concrete building was investigated. A typical reinforced concrete building with ground floor+4 floors was designed for the numerical study. All column dimensions were 400×400 mm, all beam dimensions were 250×500 mm, transverse reinforcement spacing in column and beam elements was 100 mm and floor heights were 3 meters. The existing building was strengthened with X steel diagonal elements and two models were obtained. Nonlinear static pushover and incremental dynamic analyses of the buildings were performed. 11 earthquake records were used for incremental dynamic analyses. The acceleration amplitudes of these records were increased from 0.1 g to 1.0 g by 0.1 g and the analyses were performed. In order to model the nonlinear behaviour, lumped plastic hinges were assumed at the ends of the structural elements. As a result of nonlinear static pushover and incremental dynamic analyses of the buildings, capacity curves, maximum responses, inter-storey drifts, hysteretic curves at the ends of selected columns and damage patterns were obtained. Fragility curves were created by considering the damage levels in the buildings. According to the results, the average inter-storey drifts of the building strengthened using X steel diagonal elements decreased by approximately 90% compared to its current condition for 1.0 g PGA, while the damage probability and vibration period were also significantly reduced. In addition, the base shear force encountered by the strengthened building increased more than 4 times compared to its current condition.

Susam, Selim Orhun
This research presents a minimum distance method based on the Bernstein empirical copula process for estimating the dependence parameter of the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstein copula. Also, this study examines its performance through a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study. The findings in this paper demonstrate that selecting the optimal degree of the Bernstein empirical copula has a significant impact on the performance of the new estimation method. The proposed estimator achieves optimal performance in terms of mean squared error (MSE) for the parameter range (Formula presented.) in small sample sizes, while outside this range, its performance varies depending on the degree of the Bernstein empirical copula. Finally, we apply the new method to real data for illustrative purposes.

- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2025Scopus SJRQ4The role and challenges of clean energy technologies and embedded critical raw materials in the energy sustainability
Polat, Elifcan Göçmen; Polat, Erkan
Given the increasing pattern of sustainability challenges such as climate change, carbon footprint, biodiversity loss and its sensitivity to energy policies, developing a holistic perspective is essential to enhance the further integration of energy sustainability into environmental issues. As the green transition to energy sustainability, it requires mineral-intensive energy technologies. Mineral requirements are expected to increase at unprecedented rates and could bring about the supply risks. One of the fundamental strategies is including the critical raw materials (CRMs) as variables in the energy sustainability, as the dependencies on CRMs for clean energy technologies. To address the issues related to energy sustainability and raw materials, Hesitant Fuzzy AHP (HF-AHP) is used to assess the clean energy technologies related to raw materials with the simultaneous consideration of economic, environmental, technological, and social pillars of sustainability perspective. The results are compared with the Best-Worst Method (BWM) to validate the obtained solutions. Computational results reveal that technological and environmental metrics are evaluated as the most critical dimensions. Mineral intensity as a technological metric and emissions as an environmental dimension are the most important sub criteria to evaluate the energy technologies. In Türkiye, while the hydraulic energy has the highest share due to its installed capacity and accessibility, solar panels and wind turbines hold high promise to combat climate change, obtained results also address the EVs and battery storage technologies. Ultimately, this enables all stakeholders to understand that involving of raw materials into energy sustainability could guide the compatibility policies between raw materials and sustainability energy models.

Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus is a popular freshwater fish that has been extensively and intensively cultured worldwide. However, cryopreservation of its sperm, especially pre-freezing procedure, has not been properly developed. Therefore, the study aimed to determine the best pre-freezing procedure for cryopreservation of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus sperm. The completely randomized design with five treatments and four replications was employed in this study. The tested treatments were T1=4°C → 0°C →-4°C →-10°C →-79°C →-196°C, T2=4°C→ 0°C →-4°C →-10°C →-196°C, T3=4°C → 0°C →-4°C →-196°C, T4=4°C → 0°C →-196°C), and T5=4°C →-196°C, with a 10 min equilibration at each respective temperature. Furthermore, sperm was cryopreserved for two weeks in liquid nitrogen (-179oC). The results of the ANOVA test showed that pre-freezing had a significant effect on sperm motility, and viability (P<0.05), but had no considerable impact on sperm abnormality (P>0.05). Treatment T4 exhibited higher motility and viability, but these values were not significantly different from T3 and T5. Based on practical consideration, it was recommended to utilize the T5 pre-freezing procedures (4°C →-196°C) for cryopreservation of Nile tilapia sperm. Considering these results, Nile tilapia sperm can be directly cryopreserved into liquid nitrogen after equilibration at 4°C for 10 min.
