- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Development and Characterization of Starch/Microcrystalline Cellulose/Bentonite Intelligent Packaging Films Incorporated With Red Beet Peel Extract for Monitoring Chicken Freshness
Gürler, Nedim
This study presents the physical, mechanical, antioxidant, and application properties of films prepared by adding red beet peel extract to the starch/microcrystalline cellulose/bentonite clay polymer composites by casting method to monitor chicken breast freshness. The effects of bentonite in different proportions (0%, 1%, 5%, and 10%) were investigated. The structure of the films was elucidated by XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM for surface morphology of films. Regarding mechanical testing, the highest tensile strength starch/microcrystalline cellulose-1% bentonite film was 0.88 MPa. It was noticed that water vapor permeability (WVP) improved with the addition of bentonite. Films containing 10% bentonite clay showed a 27% decrease in water vapor permeability compared to films without clay. However, the swelling power of composites increased as the bentonite content increased. Additionally, with the addition of clay the films exhibited more opaque properties. Red beet peel extract was also incorporated to the polymer composite to monitor chicken breast freshness. The antioxidant properties of the films were accomplished using DPPH method. When red beet peel extract was incorporated into the polymer film, the highest DPPH scavenging activity increased by 50%. In summary, starch/microcrystalline cellulose/bentonite films can be used as pH-sensitive intelligent packaging for controlling the freshness of chicken breast.

Utku, Anıl; Can, Ümit; BARUT, Abdulkadir; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Sharabati, Abdel-Aziz Ahmad
The COVID-19 disease has evolved into a pandemic that affects the world in multiple dimensions. While COVID-19 spread rapidly to several nations, distinct patterns of spread emerged in each nation. This spreading behavior is related to various characteristics of countries, including social, political, and economic factors. In this study, an analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic in EU and OECD countries was conducted, taking into account the social justice index for the first time. The impact and significance of the social justice index on the COVID-19 analysis results were attempted to be revealed. As a result, it is understood that the countries with high Social Justice Index scores and sub-dimension scores are more successful in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a new LSTM-based model was developed to predict the number of cases and deaths in these countries. The designed LSTM approach was compared with some well-known deep learning and machine learning algorithms. As a result of the experimental studies, the LSTM model obtained the best prediction results. Finally, the similarities between these countries in terms of the characteristics of the COVID-19 pandemic, including death and case spread, were analyzed, and exciting results were disclosed.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Health risk assessment of heavy metal accumulation in fruits exposed to geothermal waters: a case study and global implications
Arslan Topal, E Işıl; Topal, Murat; Çelik, Erdal; Öbek, Erdal
BACKGROUND: The present study investigated the potential health risks of heavy metals (HMs) in the fruits and leaves of mulberry and sour cherry trees exposed to water from Sivas geothermal basin (Turkey). RESULTS: The target HMs were ranked according to their hazard index as: Cd < Pb < Zn < Cu < Ni < Mn < Cr. The total hazard index for mulberry and sour cherry fruits was calculated as 7.87 and 4.57, respectively, and was determined to be well above the safe threshold value of 1.0. At the same time, the calculated cancer risk values exceeded the established maximum limit (1.0 × 10−4) for Ni (6.4 × 10−3) in mulberry fruit and for Cr (1.15 × 10−3) in sour cherry fruit. Ingestion has been identified as the primary route of exposure. The study results showed that Cr and Ni metals were ranked in the order of mulberry fruit > sour cherry fruit > mulberry leaf > sour cherry leaf, and that for mulberry and sour cherry fruit. CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that edible foods exposed to geothermal waters may have adverse effects on human health. Furthermore, the study highlights the necessity of reducing water discharges from geothermal fields and implementing phytoremediation strategies to ensure food safety in geothermally active agricultural basins.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1‘I want to play too’: exploring the experiences of students with disabilities in inclusive physical education
Şahin, Aykut; Karakaya, Yunus Emre
Although physical education (PE) classes are recognized as a critical setting for students with special needs (SSN) to develop physical literacy and social belonging, practices in integrated settings often fall short of this potential. In this study we utilized Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), to understand the lived experiences of SSN students participating in integrated PE classes in Turkish middle and high schools and to question inclusivity claims through the lens of ‘student voice’. The study group consisted of 31 students with special needs (visual, hearing, orthopedic, and neurological), selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The results revealed that despite a strong desire to ‘be included in the game’, students experienced a profound ‘inclusion illusion’. Findings were grouped under five themes: (1) Emotional meanings attributed to the physical education class, (2) The dual nature of experienced realities, (3) Spatial injustice and tokenism, (4) Teacher competence, (5) The ideal physical education teacher. Our findings suggest that current inclusion policies focus on spatial integration (physical placement) but fail to create a sense of legitimate participation and belonging. To address these systemic gaps, we recommend that Turkish policy makers and educators transition toward a social justice-focused pedagogy that positions students as ‘experiential experts’ in lesson co-design, ensuring that physical education moves beyond mere physical placement to achieve legitimate qualitative inclusion.

Rapid genetic selection for growth rate and slaughter weight in broilers has been associated with a higher incidence of skeletal disorders, particularly tibial dyschondroplasia (TD), which causes considerable economic losses in poultry production. We investigated the effects of boric acid (BA) and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate (SPP) on growth performance, bone mineralization, tibial histopathology, and osteogenic protein expression in broilers with manganese (Mn) deficiency-induced TD. A total of 360 Ross 308 broiler chicks were used in a 2 × 2 × 3 factorial design with TD status (normal or Mn deficiency–induced TD), boron source (BA or SPP), and supplemental boron level (0, 4.37, and 8.74 mg elemental B/kg diet). Birds were randomly allocated to 12 groups with six replicates of five birds each. Clinical and histopathological findings confirmed TD induction. TD decreased body weight, feed intake, and carcass weight, while increasing feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05). Boron supplementation improved tibial mineral density and content in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.05). In TD broilers, serum osteocalcin (OCN) concentrations were higher with high-level SPP supplementation than with BA supplementation (p = 0.012). Boron source and level significantly affected serum and bone boron concentrations, bone calcium concentrations (p < 0.05). In TD broilers, tibial osteoprotegerin levels were markedly elevated in the high-level SPP group (p < 0.001), whereas SRY-box transcription factor 9, hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, and tumor necrosis factor-α were reduced (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that SPP exerts regulatory effects on bone metabolism and osteogenic signaling pathways in TD-affected broilers.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Short-term effects of powerlifting-based training on hormonal, metabolic, and lipid profile markers in male basketball players: a randomized controlled trial
Tizar, Ercan; Erdoğan, Ramazan
Background: Powerlifting-based resistance training is increasingly incorporated into athletic conditioning programs; however, its short-term endocrine and metabolic responses remain insufficiently explored. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the short-term, exercise-induced changes associated with a powerlifting-based training program on selected hormonal, metabolic, and lipid profile parameters in male basketball players. Methods: This randomized controlled experimental study was conducted in accordance with CONSORT guidelines. Thirty male basketball players aged 18–24 years were randomly assigned to an exercise group (EG; n = 15) or a control group (CG; n = 15). Both groups continued their routine basketball training three days per week for six weeks, while the EG additionally performed a powerlifting-based training program. Serum concentrations of thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, and T4), insulin, glucose, growth hormone, testosterone, and lipid profile parameters were assessed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance to evaluate group × time interactions. Results: Significant group × time interactions were observed for several biochemical parameters (p < 0.05). In the exercise group, insulin levels increased by 53.31%, while pre-exercise glucose levels under standardized conditions decreased by 14.46%. Thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4) increased by 45.26%, 18.85%, and 18.25%, respectively. Growth hormone and testosterone levels increased by 28.49% and 18.22%, respectively. In contrast, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels decreased by 2.49%, 4.28%, and 3.76%, respectively, while HDL cholesterol increased by 5.63%. No significant changes were observed in the control group. Effect size analyses indicated large interaction effects for key variables (e.g., insulin ηp² = 0.749; glucose ηp² = 0.757). The concurrent increase in insulin and decrease in glucose may reflect transient alterations in glucose–insulin dynamics rather than a direct improvement in insulin sensitivity. Conclusion: The inclusion of a powerlifting-based training program was associated with favorable short-term, exercise-induced changes in selected hormonal, metabolic, and lipid profile parameters in male basketball players. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution due to the limited sample size and intervention duration. Further studies employing larger cohorts and longer training periods are warranted to confirm these observations and to clarify their long-term physiological implications. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07398248), registered on 29/12/2025.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Analyzing Failures In Wind–Solar Hybrid Energy Systems Using a Fuzzy-Based BWM-MARCOS Approach: Challenges and Solutions
Başhan, Veysi; Yucesan, Melih; Demirel, Hakan; Gul, Muhammet
The reliability of hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) depends heavily on the identification and management of potential failure modes. This study employs a fuzzy-based BWM-MARCOS approach to systematically analyze and prioritize failure modes within wind–solar hybrid systems. The model aims to prioritize the failures considering four important risk parameters: (1) severity of the failure on system, staff, and failure, (2) failure occurrence chance, (3) effort and ease of detecting the cause of the failure, and (4) economic impact of the failure. In this context, four key risk indicators were evaluated to rank failures, revealing that SP1 (cell damage), ESS1 (battery degradation), and WT11 (battery fire) are the most critical due to their potential impact on system operations. Sensitivity analysis confirmed the stability of these rankings under varying parameter weights. Additionally, cross-method validation using fuzzy TOPSIS, SAW, and MARCOS demonstrated high correlation coefficients, underscoring the reliability of the results. Tailored mitigation strategies, including advanced diagnostics, durable materials, and robust monitoring systems, are proposed to address these critical failures. While the current methodology applies to various HRES configurations, future research should incorporate real-world operational data and machine learning techniques to enhance predictive capabilities and dynamic risk management.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Kinetic investigation on the recovery of copper and cobalt from sulphuric acid plant electrofilter dust
Erust, Ceren
Several waste dusts collecting equipment options are available for air pollution control in plants, the most commonly used being the electrofilter. Industrial wastes such as electrofilter dust are evaluated as a secondary resource owing to their critical metal contents. In this work, the results of studies on the extraction of cobalt and copper from electrofilter dust generated in sulphuric acid production plants are presented. The chemical and mineralogical compositions of the dust were investigated using instrumental analytical methods. The electrofilter dust consists of the main phases of haematite, quartz, and anhydrite. Also, electrofilter dust contains 1.43% copper and 0.28% cobalt. It was found that the process of copper and cobalt dissolution is characterized by chemical kinetics. When the acid leaching was applied in 1 M sulphuric acid in the presence of 0.05 M hydrogen peroxide, with the temperature 80°C and 2 h of leaching time, stirring rate of 200 rpm and liquid to solid ratio 20/1 v/w, cobalt and copper extraction achieved 88% and 98% respectively. As a result of studying the kinetics of acid leaching with sulphuric acid in the presence of oxidant hydrogen peroxide, activation energy and the type of reaction to chemical controlled model were determined.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Stratigraphy, mineralogy, paleodepositional environment, and diagenetic evolution of the Pülümür evaporites (Tunceli, Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye)
Us, Muhammed Sami
The gypsum member of the Balpayam Formation (GMoBF) in the Pülümür Kırmızıköprü Basin (PKB), Eastern Anatolia, records a complex evaporitic system shaped by episodic tectonism, volcanism, and fluctuating hydrological conditions. Stratigraphic logging, facies analysis, and systematic sampling from outcrops and quarries enabled a detailed assessment of the evaporite succession. Petrographic data reveal pervasive secondary gypsum textures, including porphyroblastic, alabastrine, laminated, brecciated, and satin-spar fabrics preserving relics of primary anhydrite and calcite. XRD and FIB-SEM-EDS analyses identify gypsum, anhydrite, celestine, dolomite, calcite, clay minerals, and minor siliciclastic, clarifying diagenetic pathways. Diagenesis initiated with early calcite and aragonite precipitation, followed by replacement by primary anhydrite and gypsum under elevated Mg2+/Ca2+ ratios and shallow burial. Later hydration, dehydration, and rehydration cycles produced secondary gypsum with distinctive microtextures and micro-hydration channels. The PKB reflects a dual depositional system: a shallow, low-energy, restricted lagoon dominated by massive-laminated gypsum, stromatolitic textures, and organic-rich layers, and a comparatively deeper open marine setting with laminated-banded gypsum and transported gypsum arenite-rudite facies. Chicken-wire gypsum and anhydrite nodules indicate synsedimentary to early diagenetic formation under hypersaline conditions. A schematic depositional model constrains the temporal and spatial evolution of diagenetic processes, highlighting the interaction among evaporite deposition, tectonic activity, and environmental fluctuations in the southern Neo-Tethys Ocean of Eastern Anatolia.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Evaluation of electrical properties of poly(NIPA-co-St) composites containing neodymium and yttrium
Cetinkaya, Ebru; Karaaslan Ayhan, Nagihan; Torgut, Gulben
In this study, firstly, to obtain neodymium (Nd) and yttrium (Y)-containing composite materials, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-copolymer-styrene) (poly(NIPA-co-St)) copolymer was synthesized by free radical polymerization method using N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) and styrene (St) monomers. Secondly, new composite materials were obtained by adding neodymium and yttrium to this copolymer at different weight ratios (10% and 20%). Structural and morphological characterizations of poly(NIPA-co-St) copolymer, poly(NIPA-co-St)-10%Nd, poly(NIPA-co-St)-20%Nd, poly(NIPA-co-St)-10%Y and poly(NIPA-co-St)-20%Y composite materials were carried out. The electrical properties of the copolymer and composite materials were evaluated by considering the frequency dependence of the dielectric constant (έ), dielectric loss (ε″) and electrical conductivity (σac) properties. At 100 Hz, the έ, ε″, and σac values of the copolymer were 5.12, 0.05, and 2.29 × 10−10 S/cm, respectively. With the addition of 10% Nd, the έ, ε″, and σac values at 100 Hz were calculated as 6.57, 0.10, and 1.79 × 10−9 S/cm, respectively, while with the addition of 20% Nd, these values were calculated as 8.39, 0.15, and 4.78 × 10−8 S/cm at 100 Hz. With the addition of 10% Y, the έ, ε″, and σac values at 100 Hz were calculated as 6.56, 0.053, and 1.81 × 10−9 S/cm, respectively, while with the addition of 20% Y, these values were calculated as 8.57, 0.0058, and 3.70 × 10−8 S/cm at 100 Hz. It can be stated that as the amount of Nd and Y additives to the poly(NIPA-co-St) copolymer increases, the έ, ε″, and σac values increase, indicating an improvement in electrical properties with the addition of Nd and Y elements.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Structural and optical properties of Bi- and Sn-doped Sb2Se3 thin films prepared by thermal evaporation
Kök, Mediha; Öztürk, Yunus; Sait Kanca, M.
In this study, Sb2Se3-based semiconductor thin films, both pure Sb2Se3 and those doped with Bi and Sn, were produced using the thermal evaporation method. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the obtained films were investigated using XRD, SEM, and UV–Vis spectroscopy. While films without annealing exhibited an amorphous structure, significant crystallization was observed after annealing at 350 °C, especially at high doping levels. SEM analyses showed significant changes in surface morphology and grain structure depending on the doping level. Optical measurements revealed that absorption increased and the band gap changed with increasing doping level. The band gap for the undoped Sb2Se3 thin film was found to be 1.54 eV. An increase due to the Burstein–Moss effect was observed at low additive ratios, while band narrowing was observed at high additive ratios. The results obtained indicate that Bi and Sn additives improve the optoelectronic properties of Sb2Se3 thin films and hold potential for photovoltaic applications.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Freeze–Thaw Performance and Microstructural Stability of Alkali-Activated Slag Mortars Incorporating Mussel Shell Waste
Şahin Yön, Merve
This study investigates the use of mussel shells (MSs), a biogenic by-product of the food industry, as a partial replacement for ground granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) in alkali-activated mortars. Given their high CaCO3 content, MSs represent a sustainable secondary raw material that reduces both waste disposal burden and reliance on natural resources, while offering a low-carbon alternative to conventional cement-based binders. Alkali-activated mussel shell/slag mortars (AAMSs) were produced with MS replacement ratios of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by mass of GBFS. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) were used as alkaline activators. Fresh specimens were cured at 60 °C for 48 h. The experimental program included workability, compressive and flexural strength, water absorption, porosity, density, capillarity, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), and freeze–thaw (F-T) resistance tests. Increasing MS content slightly reduced flowability and mechanical strength, while increasing water absorption, porosity, and capillarity. The M0 series achieved the highest 28-day compressive strength (54.06 MPa), while M15 exhibited the highest flexural strength (5.23 MPa). Following F-T cycling, the 5% and 10% MS series demonstrated the best compressive strength (30 MPa). The 10% MS exhibits a relatively balanced overall performance, providing the best balance between mechanical performance, F-T resistance, and microstructural stability, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analyses showing elevated Ca/Si ratios and the formation of Ca-rich crystalline phases.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Determination of microplastic contamination and phthalate ester migration in canned and frozen packaged seafood: A probabilistic human health risk assessment via Monte Carlo simulation
Macit, Arife; Köktürk, Mine; Serdar, Osman; Alak, Gonca
This research was designed to identify the levels of microplastics (MP) and phthalate esters (PAE) in canned and frozen packaged fish and to assess the human health risks associated with these pollutants. Analyses were carried out on a total of 25 sample groups, including 10 different canned tuna samples, 9 different packaged seafood products, and 6 different packaging materials. Microplastics were characterized and polymer identification was performed using μ-Raman and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, while PAEs were determined by GC–MS/MS. The obtained data were used to calculate estimated daily intake (EDI), hazard index (HI), hazard quotient (HQ), and cancer risk (CR), and uncertainty was assessed using Monte Carlo simulation. The findings revealed that both microplastic and phthalate exposure were higher in the frozen fish group than in canned products. The highest MP concentrations were recorded in packaged Whiting B (0.73 ± 0.25 items/g) and oil-added canned tuna (0.57 ± 0.15 items/g). Regarding PAEs, while DEHP and DBP were generally prominent, significant peak concentrations of BBP and DNOP were also identified, reaching 1.91 ± 0.01 ppm for BBP in canned tuna with sunflower oil and 1.84 ± 0.01 ppm in packaged whiting. Furthermore, higher exposure was observed in males for most PAEs. HQ and HI values were below 1 (maximum HI: 1.57 × 10−2 for males consuming frozen seafood), while CR values remained within an acceptable range (4.74 × 10−7 to 3.49 × 10−6). In conclusion, health risks related to processed fish consumption appear generally low; however, processing and packaging may contribute to contamination and warrant further investigation.

High-entropy carbides (HECs) are emerging as promising materials for shielding against gamma-ray and neutron radiation due to their unique structural and compositional properties. This study systematically evaluates the shielding capabilities of 12 carbide-reinforced high-entropy alloys (HEAs) composed of elements such as hafnium, niobium, titanium, zirconium, tungsten, tantalum, vanadium, and molybdenum. Various gamma-ray and neutron shielding parameters, including attenuation coefficients, shielding thicknesses, and neutron removal cross sections, were calculated using the Phy-X/PSD software. The findings reveal a strong correlation between material density and shielding efficiency, with the highest density samples, particularly (Zr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Mo0.2W0.2)C and (Ti0.2Hf0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2W0.2)C, demonstrating superior gamma-ray attenuation. Additionally, neutron shielding performance was maximized in compositions containing high concentrations of heavy elements, with (Ti0.2V0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2W0.2)C exhibiting the most effective neutron absorption properties. The interactions of photons and charged particles with these materials were further examined through mass stopping power and projected range calculations for alpha particles, protons, and electrons. It can be concluded that HEC-based alloys, due to their high density, optimized composition, and superior radiation attenuation properties, could be strong candidates for advanced shielding applications in nuclear and aerospace environments.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Green Chemistry Meets Advanced Materials: Synthesis and Adsorption Performance of Ti3CNTx MXenes for Basic Red 46 Dye Removal
Aydın, Ekrem; Çelik, Aytekin; Köse, Yusuf; Hasar, Halil
In this study, Ti₃CNTₓ MXene nanosheets were synthesized from Ti₃AlCNTₓ MAX phase via two selective Al-etching routes: (i) direct hydrofluoric acid (HF) treatment and (ii) in-situ HF generation using a LiF + HCl mixture. Both approaches were systematically compared to evaluate their effects on structural integrity, surface chemistry, and adsorption performance toward the cationic dye Basic Red 46 (BR 46). Comprehensive physicochemical characterizations—including SEM–EDX, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, AFM, contact angle analysis, and TGA—confirmed successful Al removal and MXene formation for both methods, with notable differences in surface terminations and layer morphology. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted across a wide range of pH values (2–11), temperatures (25–60 °C), contact times (0–90 min), adsorbent dosages (0.05–0.40 g), and initial dye concentrations (10–50 mg/L). The HF-etched Ti₃CNTₓ exhibited rapid adsorption, achieving 99.6% removal at pH 2 within 20 min, whereas the LiF + HCl-etched sample demonstrated superior performance at moderate-to-alkaline pH and maintained high efficiency at lower dosages. Langmuir isotherm fitting revealed maximum adsorption capacities of 19.24 mg/g (HF route) and 28.01 mg/g (LiF + HCl route), supporting monolayer adsorption on homogeneous sites. Temperature-dependent studies further indicated an endothermic and spontaneous adsorption mechanism. Overall, the LiF + HCl route offers a greener and safer alternative to conventional HF etching while delivering competitive adsorption performance, improved structural stability, and faster equilibrium. These findings highlight the potential of sustainably synthesized Ti₃CNTₓ MXenes as high-performance adsorbents for dye-laden industrial wastewater treatment.

Atar, Muhammed; Ince, Ragip; Bakhshizadeh, Majid; Pirmohammad, Sadjad; Furtana Yalcin, Beyza; Yilmaz, Mehmet
This study investigates the fracture and viscoelastic behavior of asphalt mixtures through a combined experimental, numerical, and statistical approach. Semi Circular Bend (SCB) tests were performed on specimens with notch lengths of 10, 20, and 30 mm at two temperature levels (0 °C and room temperature) to determine fracture toughness (KIc), fracture energy, and stiffness parameters. The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) was employed to simulate crack initiation and propagation, providing a close match with experimental SCB results under various thermal and geometric conditions. To further interpret the effects of temperature and crack geometry, the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied to the experimental data, enabling the identification of key interaction effects and optimization of fracture parameters. The results demonstrated that decreasing temperature and increasing notch length notably reduced fracture resistance, while XFEM accurately represented the nonlinear crack propagation observed in laboratory testing. Moreover, RSM provided predictive equations that were in strong agreement with XFEM outcomes. The proposed integrated SCB-XFEM-RSM framework presents an efficient and reliable methodology for evaluating and optimizing the fracture performance of asphalt mixtures, offering valuable insights for the design of durable and sustainable pavement systems under diverse environmental conditions.

Ekşi, Osman; İpek, Yeliz; Koçak, Berna
In this study, for the first time, chromium (III) oxide-glutardialdehyde modified boron-doped diamond electrode (Cr2O3-GA2/BDDE) was used as a sensor for the electrochemical analysis of gentamicin sulfate. The Cr2O3-GA2 suspension used in electrode modification was physically coated on the BDD electrode by a simple drop-casting method. Characterization of Cr2O3-GA2 used in the modification was made by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and the electrochemical method. The behavior of gentamicin sulfate on Cr2O3-GA2/BDDE was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), and its electrochemical analysis was done by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Electrochemical analysis of gentamicin sulfate on Cr2O3-GA2/BDDE was carried out in a pH 9 Britton–Robinson (BR) buffer by the DPV method. The linear working range of gentamicin sulfate on Cr2O3-GA2/BDDE was calculated as 5.96 × 10−6−6.54 × 10−5mol L−1, and the correlation coefficient was calculated as 0.997. The limit of detection (LOD) was found to be 2.84 × 10−6. mol L−1. Additionally, Genta, a 3% eye/ear drop solution, was preferred to determine the applicability of gentamicin sulfate in a commercial formulation. As a result, it was shown that the method developed on Cr2O3-GA2/BDDE for the determination of gentamicin sulfate can be applied to commercial drugs.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Forked hybrid architecture combining 1D-CNN and quantum convolutional networks for EEG signal classification
Esmeray, Furkan; Gülten, Arif
Detecting epileptic seizures from electroencephalogram (EEG) signals presents a significant challenge due to the nonlinear and non-stationary nature of brain activity. In this study, we propose a hybrid classification framework that integrates quantum-assisted and classical deep learning techniques to enhance detection accuracy and model interpretability. First, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is applied to extract multiscale time–frequency features from raw EEG signals. Subsequently, three comparative models are developed: a conventional 1D-CNN model, an IQCNN model incorporating a parametric quantum circuit, and a novel Forked Enhanced Model that processes EEG features simultaneously through both 1D-CNN and IQCNN branches and combines them in a fully connected layer. The proposed hybrid model leverages the expressive power of quantum entanglement while preserving the robustness of classical deep learning. Evaluations using 5-fold stratified cross-validation on a real EEG dataset show that the forked architecture outperforms both classical CNNs and quantum-only based models in terms of accuracy, F1 score, precision, recall, number of incorrectly classified subjects and AUC. In this study, the best result was obtained with the Denoise IQCNNNet hybrid model. The accuracy of this model is 97.25%, precision 92.74%, recall 93.66%, F-1 score 93.15%, AUC 99.54%, number of incorrectly classified subjects are 57. Aslan, Alper; Akti Aslan, Seda; Turgut, Yiğit Emrah; Allison, Jordan; Özyurt, Özcan
This editorial presents a structured synthesis of the thematic development of the Journal of Educational Computing Research (JECR) from 1987 to 2024, drawing on a computational analysis of 1,597 articles. Applying Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), the analysis identifies thirteen thematic structures that reveal both the enduring commitments and the emerging orientations of the journal across nearly four decades. Themes such as problem-solving through programming and self-efficacy in programming education have constituted persistent research agendas since the journal’s earliest volumes, while computational thinking and game-based learning have gained substantial momentum since 2015. These patterns suggest that JECR’s intellectual identity is best understood not as a sequence of discrete topical shifts, but as a sustained process in which a bounded set of foundational problems is repeatedly re-articulated under changing technological and epistemic conditions. The editorial situates this trajectory in relation to contemporary developments in artificial intelligence and educational technology, arguing that the journal’s historical archive offers an indispensable conceptual framework for interpreting present-day transformations.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ4Impact of Basalt Powder on the Physical, Fresh, Hardened and Microstructural Characteristics of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag-Based Alkali-Activated Mortars
Yön, Merve Şahin; Cemalgil, Selim
In this study, the workability, mechanical and physical aspects of alkali-activated mortar (AAM) containing basalt powder (BP) and granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) were investigated. For the experimental study, alkali-activated mortars (AAM) containing BP at 8%, 16%, 24%, 32% and 40% substitution rates for GBFS were developed. Mortars were synthesized with a sodium silicate/sodium hydroxide ratio of 3.0 for the binder materials and a 0.45 alkali activator-to-binder ratio. The flow diameters of the fresh mortars prepared using 40x40x160 mm molds were determined according to the European Federation of Experts in Construction Chemicals and Concrete Systems (EFNARC) standard. The fresh AAMs were wrapped in stretch film to prevent evaporation and then kept in an oven at 60°C for 48 hours. The cured samples were evaluated for their mechanical strengths at 3 and 28 days, freeze-thaw effects after 33 and 100 cycles, and microstructures after 100 cycles. According to the results, using 40% BP instead of GBFS caused a decrease of approximately 15.08% in 28-day compressive strength compared to the reference sample (100% GBFS). G100 showed a minimum porosity of 15.81% and a water absorption rate of approximately 7.3%. The G60B40 mixture had the highest sorptivity capacity with 5.29x10-3 cm/s0.5, while the G100 mixture showed the lowest capacity with 3.88x10-3 cm/s0.5. After 100 freeze-thaw cycles, the G60B40 sample had the largest strength loss of 61.61%, while the G100 sample showed the lowest strength loss of 9.89%.
