Kervankiran, Ismail; Sert Eteman, Fatma
Interregional development disparities have emerged as one of the most controversial issues in contemporary discourse. Across the globe, disparities in various facets, including social, cultural, tourism, and economic dimensions, are strikingly evident. Turkey, a nation renowned for its importance in the global tourism landscape, is no exception to this phenomenon. The spatial distribution of tourism development in Turkey reveals an inequality. This study aims to examine the variations in interregional tourism development by establishing a comprehensive tourism development index for Turkish cities and subsequently categorizing them based on their distinctive levels of development. To achieve this, a dataset consisting of 18 variables from various public institutions in the year 2017 was compiled. With this data set, Principal Component Analysis was employed to compute the tourism development index for each city, and the Hierarchical Cluster Method was used to categorize cities into distinct development categories. In conclusion, the research underscores the influence of both policy interventions, planning, and the intrinsic characteristics of cities in shaping the spatial disparities in tourism development within Turkey. The implementation of neoliberal policies has notably concentrated capital, investments, and the tourism market in the Mediterranean and Aegean coastal regions, exacerbating spatial inequality in tourism. The implications of this study hold the potential to guide policymakers in narrowing the gaps in interregional tourism development within Turkey, thereby fostering a more equitable and sustainable future.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023A Critique of the Concerns on the Proprio Motu Powers of the ICC Prosecutor
Kurtulus, Sehmus
During the Rome Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries where the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) was drafted, the ICC Prosecutor's powers were a matter of dispute. It was particularly the Prosecutor's authority to investigate complaints without any referral from a State Party or the Security Council which led to serious debates among participating States. Though there was wide support for the empowerment of the Prosecutor to activate the trigger mechanism of the ICC proprio motu (on his/her own initiative), there was also strong opposition. Some States described the prosecutorial powers granted to the Prosecutor as 'unacceptable' due to fears such as facing politically motivated prosecutions. Though the previous two prosecutorial terms showed that fears of politicized prosecutions were far-fetched, the process of selecting the third Prosecutor of the ICC for a nine-year term commencing 16 June 2021 once again put a spotlight on the prosecutorial powers as well as on the challenges the new Prosecutor would face. The present study will first draw attention to the judicial scrutiny of the chambers of the ICC and the filtering mechanism of the Rome Statute in an attempt to allay fears that the Prosecutor's powers may lead to politicized prosecutions. The study will then explain, in light of recent developments, why the ICC Prosecutor's power to act proprio motu is crucial for the effective operation of the Court. In so doing, the study will mainly benefit from primary sources such as the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Official Records of the Rome Conference, Reports of the Office of the Prosecutor on Preliminary Examination Activities, Decisions of the Pre-Trial Chambers, as well as the comments made by scholars thereon.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2023Norman Leader Robert Guiscard's Fight With Byzantine (Eastern Rome)
Korunur, Harun
The influence of the Migration of Tribes affected almost all of Europe. This influence has been an important factor in the formation of today's Europe. These tribes, which Rome described as barbarian, tried to find a place for themselves in Europe. The Vikings were one of these tribes, and they were active in both navigation and war skills. This tribe, which later took its place on the stage of history with its Norman identity, carried out a publishing and invasive policy. Over time, they gained dominance in Italy. One of the leaders who made for himself in this tribe was undoubtedly Robert Guiscard. This leader continued the expansionist policies after the Italian domination and attacked the Balkans under the control of Byzantium. He wanted to be the emperor by dominating Byzantium, and for this purpose he started a struggle whit Byzantium. The aim of our study is to evaluate the Byzamtine struggle with the Norman leader Robert Guiscard. In this direction, & imath;t aims to give a perspective on the relations in the Byzantine and Norman political history of the 9th century.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Determination of lipid quality and mercury levels of sardine and rainbow trout cooked with different methods
Çakli, Sukran; Erol, Nida Demirtas; Sen Yilmaz, Evren Burcu; Baldemir, Pinar; Çakli, Atilla
This study aimed to investigate the effects of baking and pan-frying methods on the lipid quality and mercury (Hg) levels of two important fish species in Turkiye, namely, fileted sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The results revealed that sardines significantly decreased n-3 fatty acids depending on the cooking process, while the best n-6/n-3 ratio was observed in baked sardines, with higher rates found in pan-fried fish. Notably, pan-fried rainbow trout cooked with butter showed the highest atherogenic index (AI) of 0.71 +/- 0.32 and thrombogenic index (TI) of 0.61 +/- 1.43, as well as a hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic index (HH) of 0.79 +/- 0.17. Conversely, fried sardines exhibited lower atherogenic and thrombogenic scores, with fried sardines cooked in sunflower oil having a hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic index of 4.85 +/- 0.3. There were no significant variations in Hg content between raw and cooked fish. However, when compared to the raw control, the rise in Hg content for baked fish was substantial (p < 0.05) (baked rainbow trout 0.18 mg/kg and sardine 0.29 mg/kg). The decrease in FAs (Fatty Acids) due to cooking methods can be ordered as follows: Raw sardine > baked > fried. Conversely, the increase in FAs due to the cooking methods can be ordered as follows: fried > baked > raw sardine. Baked rainbow trout had much lower levels of palmitic acid, stearic acid, and myristic acid than the raw material. However, these levels were significantly increased in rainbow trout cooked in a frying pan. Additionally, oleic acid levels in fried rainbow trout were detected to be lower than in other preparations, whereas they were equivalent in baked rainbow trout.

Birdal, Murat; Acun, Serdar; Onuk, Parla
This paper investigates the rise of household debt and its impact on class relations and the sustainability of capitalism. The analysis begins with a historical perspective on the factors contributing to household debt growth, such as declining wages, increasing pressure on organized labor, and the need to maintain consumer demand in the face of declining profit margins. The paper then compares the dynamics of household debt across countries and examines Turkiye's case in a global context. The findings suggest that unsustainable household debt levels, declining wages, and rising inequality; raise doubts about the long-term sustainability of capitalism as we know it. The paper advocates for rethinking economic policies and practices, prioritizing the well-being and prosperity of the majority.

This comprehensive research has been conducted to consider the distribution of PTEs in the surface sediments of a recently developed Dar-e-Allo copper mine in dependence on the potential ecological and human health risks. Field sampling was carried out discreetly at preselected sampling spots including the natural background, the streams around the mine, waste rock drainages, evaporative deposits, sediments containing Fe oxy-hydroxides and secondary phases. Distribution of target elements (Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, S, Sb, Se, and Zn) showed high levels of crustal elements. As regards, Fe, Al, and S are identified to exist as the most copious elements in the earth's crust, so have the major portion of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the sediment concentrations. Evaluating environmental indices reflected that in general, Cu, S, and Mo have a higher quota of contamination in sedimentary systems. the pollution load index (PLI), modified contamination degree (mCd), Contamination factor (C-f), Sediment potential index (SPI), Geo-accumulation index (I-geo) and Contamination degree (C-d) confirm that sedimentary systems of mining area are heavily contaminated by PTEs and were not found within the guideline acceptable values. The potential ecological risk index (PERI) displayed a high or severe risk level for Cu with a peak in green-blue sediments containing secondary minerals. The results of total carcinogenic risk (TCRs) show that As has high toxicity level and carries a risk of carcinogenicity among children and adults. The TCRs for Cd, Cr, Ni, and Pb with carcinogenic potential are found only in children and they are classified as the prime concern elements that have serious dangers to children's public health. The results of contamination source presumed that the sources of PTEs contamination were principally geogenic along with the anthropogenic sources in the study area. Therefore, the present study has highlighted the implication of human health risks of PTEs in sedimentary systems of copper mining, also will grant advice for prime stakeholders, including mine managers, Environmental Protection Agency, the government and public organizations in connection to protecting the environment, aquatic biota and consumer's health.

Gençyürek, Ahmet Galip; Ekinci, Ramazan; Agan, Busra
The study aims to analyze the volatility spillover between the oil market (WTI) and the S&P (Stand and Poor's) Energy, Financial, and Industry sector indices through conditional correlation and variance causality. The DCC-GARCH (Dynamic Conditional Correlation-Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity) and Hafner-Herwartz (2006) Variance Causality models were used to analyze the daily data for the period between January 3, 2012 and December 31, 2019. The results indicate a positive time-var ying conditional correlation between the oil market and sector indices. In addition, the hedge ratios and risk-minimizing portfolio weights (which are vital for investors) have been calculated based on these data. The cheapest hedging transaction with the oil market occurs in the financial sector, while the most expensive one occurs in the energy sector. It has also been determined that volatility is transmitted from the sector indices to the oil market. This situation means that the S&P sector indices play a leading role (resource of information-emit information) in volatility spillover. The results provide important information to researchers, investors, and policymakers.

Akbaba, Emel; Aydın, Sevinç; Sanyürek, Nesrin Karaca; Çakır, Atilla; Erişir, Figen Erdem
Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is regarded as one of the world’s most important fruit crops in terms of acreage and commercial worth. Grapes are used to make not only wine but also fresh fruit, dried fruit, and juice. The quality of grapes or wine is significantly affected by environmental factors such as altitude, soil type, and climate. In this study, the 5 white grape varieties (Ağın beyazı, Tahannebi, Kabarcık, Şilfoni, and Besni) grown at different altitudes (800 m, 1000 m and 1200 m) in Turkey were investigated for their vitamin, and phytosterol concentrations as well as lipid peroxidation content. Şilfoni grape harvested at 800 m was found to possess the lowest lipid peroxidation content. High altitudes, were found to reduce lipid peroxidation contents in the Ağın beyazı, Tahannebi, and Kabarcık strains. The highest stigmasterol (98.34 μg/g), and beta-sitosterol (86.90 μg/g) concentrations were found within Şilfoni grape variety harvested at 800 m. The highest vitamin D-2 and D-3 levels were found in Ağın beyazı (1.39 μg/g) and Kabarcık (4.13 μg/g) grape varieties, both harvested at 1200 m. Kabarcık grape, however, revealed the highest concentrations of R-tocopherol (63.09 μg/g) and alpha-tocopherol (24.13 μg/g) at 1200 m within the samples. The highest vitamin K-2 level was determined within the Tahannebi grape (15.44 μg/g) from 1200 m. It was observed that the vitamin and phytosterol concentrations of white grape varieties tended to increase, while the lipid peroxidation values tended to decrease at high altitudes, especially at 1200 m. This study also exhibited a strong relationship among Vitamin D3, R-tocopherol, and alpha-tocopherol in the studied white grape cultivars.
