Mükemre, Muzaffer; Behçet, Lutfi; Çakilcioglu, Ugur
This study aims to record accumulation of knowledge on plants which are used as food by native people of Catak (Van, Turkey) that has a rich culture and a very natural environment. In addition, the medical uses of these plants were compiled from the literature. Study area was located on the East of Anatolian diagonal, in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Field study was carried out over a period of approximately two years (2010-2012). During this period, 82 vascular plant taxa were collected. The plants were pressed in the field and prepared for identification. A total of 82 food plants belonging to 28 families were identified in the region. In the study being conducted, use of wild plants as food points out interest of people in Catak in wild plants. The fact that a large proportion of edible plants are also being used for medicinal purposes indicates that the use of wild plants has a high potential in the region. The present study shows that further ethnobotanical investigations are worthy to be carried out in Turkey, where most of knowledge on popular food plants are still to discover. In Turkey, the number of ethnobotanic studies is ever-increasing. However, traditional uses of many wild plants have not been recorded yet. In terms of food safety, the adverse effects that may arise due to the use of wild plants without sufficient knowledge must be reported to the native people.

Gul, Muhammet; Celik, Erkan; Aydin, Nezir; Gumus, Alev Taskin; Guneri, Ali Fuat
Multi criteria decision making (MCDM) is one of the research areas of operations research and management science which has widely studied by researchers and practitioners. It finds a compromise solution for evaluating and ranking alternatives from the best to the worst under conflicting criteria with respect to decision maker(s) preferences. In a compromise approach, the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR; that means multi-criteria optimization and compromise solution) continues to be applied satisfactorily across different application areas. This paper conducts a state-of-the-art literature review to categorize, analyze and interpret the current research on VIKOR applications. It also discusses the extensions of VIKOR applied in fuzzy environments. A total of 343 papers are classified into 13 different application areas and a number of sub-application areas. Furthermore, all papers are also categorized with respect to publication year, published journal, country of origin, application type (real case study vs empirical study), and version of fuzzy sets used. This comprehensive literature review provides an insight for researchers and practitioners on VIKOR applications in terms of showing current state and potential areas for future attempts to be focused in the future. - MakaleAçık Erişim2016Scopus SJRQ2An extended fuzzy TOPSIS-GRA method based on different separation measures for green logistics service provider selection
Celik, E.; Erdogan, M.; Gumus, A. T.
In this paper, first, the criteria that make logistics service providers more green'' are determined as: cooperation with customer's company and its customer, green government regulations, environmental management system, green process design, reduction in energy consumption and green network design. The criteria weights are determined by fuzzy AHP, based on expert opinions. Then, a new method is proposed, which is the combination of fuzzy TOPSIS and GRA, and used to evaluate green 3PLs based on different separation measures, as an extension, using trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Five Turkish 3PLs serve in Istanbul are selected in order to apply a case study to show the applicability of the proposed method. Finally, the proposed method is verified with respect to different resolving coefficient values and separation measures and also compared with fuzzy TOPSIS and fuzzy VIKOR method results. Different multi-criteria decision-making methods can be applied and compared to check validity of our results for future studies. The proposed method can also be implemented to 3PLs in other countries.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2016Scopus SJRQ2Automatic mining of accurate and comprehensible numerical classification rules with cat swarm optimization algorithm
Akyol, Sinem; Alatas, Bilal
Optimization is the process of finding the best solution of a problem. There are many optimization algorithms proposed for optimization problems. The metaheuristic algorithm can give solutions close to optimum in an acceptable period of time for large-scaled optimization problems. The metaheuristic optimization algorithms are evaluated in seven different groups which are biology-based, physics-based, swarm-based, social-based, music-based, sport-based, and chemistry-based. The swarm-based optimization algorithms have been developed by observing the behaviors of creatures e.g. birds, fishes, cats, bees etc. Data mining is the process of discovery of meaningful and useful data within huge databases. Classification rules mining is one of the most commonly studied data mining problems and with methods for this problem, users can easily understand the rules extracted from databases. In this work, one of the most recent swarm based optimization algorithm, Cat Swarm Optimization (CSO), has been firstly used for classification rules mining within databases composed of numerical or mixed data types automatically. There is not any preprocess for finding true ranges for appropriate attributes of the rules, this has been automatically done by CSO. Furthermore, the used objective function is very flexible and many different objectives can easily be added to. For this purpose, four numerical databases obtained from UCI data warehouse have been used and accurate and comprehensible classification rules have been mined. The results have been compared with the results obtained from Weka program. Although CSO has not been embedded with any improvement and has firstly implemented in this research area, the obtained results seem promising.

Celik, Fatih; Camas, Mustafa; Camas, Anil Sazak; Ozalp, Hasan Baris
The biosorption of heavy metals, radionuclides, uranium and thorium for the recovery or removal from aqueous systems using various micro-organisms and biological substances has been investigated by several groups of workers. In this paper, the uptake of uranium (VI) from aqueous systems by a marine sponge, Sarcotragus foetidus (Schmidt, 1862) has been investigated. S. foetidus samples were collected from Babakale/Ayvacik/Canakkale in Turkey. Uranium (VI) uptake experiments were carried out by the batch technique. The affecting parameters were analyzed using Central Composite Design (CCD) as the experimental method. Four independent variables such-pH, temperature, contact time, and initial uranium concentration were selected for this study. The influences of initial pH, contact time, and initial uranium concentration on the biosorption process were considered statistically significant as main effects. On the other hand, interaction effects of pH and contact time, as well as pH and initial uranium concentration, were considered as significant parameters on the biosorption process. The optimum condition of biosorption process was found to be at initial pH: 4, temperature: 35 degrees C, initial uranium concentration: 20 mg/L, and contact time: 31 minutes. At these conditions, the biosorption yield of uranium (VI) ions was obtained to be 93.29 +/- 2%.

Sahilli, Yeliz Cakir; Akgun, Mehmet Hanifi; Yildiz, Deniz
Antimony is a trace element which has wide variety of industrial application. Antimony has recently been considered as an environmental pollutant. Among the inorganic forms, SbIII is the more toxic form. SbIII is ten times more toxic compared to the SbV. Consuming plants that are grown in antimony contaminated soil is one of the way by which humans are exposed to antimony. AsIII and SbIII forms strong bonds with free-SH groups. When SbIII or SbV interacts with proteins that contain free-SH groups, protein inactivation usually results in. Antimony may also result in free radical generation and induction of oxidative stress. Even though antimony has some applications in health as a drug, its biological effects have not been investigated in detail. In the present study we investigated the effects of SbIII on glutathione efflux in human erythrocytes. The effects of N-acetyl-L-cysteine on antimony induced glutathione oxidation and glutathione efflux were also investigated. Extracellular glutathione concentration significantly increased and reached to 0.033 +/- 0.0034 micromole/ml erythrocyte with 1 mM of potassium antimony tartrate in four hours. The control value of extracellular glutathione was 0.020 +/- 0.0035 micromole/ml erythrocyte. Our results show that SbIII treatment of erythrocyte results in glutathione efflux.

- MakaleYalnız künye2016Scopus SJRQ2Effects of hydroxyapatite/Zr and bioglass/Zr coatings on morphology and corrosion behaviour of Rex-734 alloy
Say, Y.; Aksakal, B.
To improve corrosion resistance of metallic implant surfaces, Rex-734 alloy was coated with two different bio-ceramics; single-Hydroxyapatite (HA), double-HA/Zirconia(Zr) and double-Bioglass (BG)/Zr by using sol-gel method. Porous surface morphologies at low crack density were obtained after coating and sintering processes. Corrosion characteristics of coatings were determined by Open circuit potential and Potentiodynamic polarization measurements during corrosion tests. Hardness and adhesion strength of coating layers were measured and their surface morphologies before and after corrosion were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), XRD and EDX. Through the SEM analysis, it was observed that corrosion caused degradation and sphere-like formations appeared with dimples on the coated surfaces. The coated substrates that exhibit high crack density, the corrosion was more effective by disturbing and transmitting through the coating layer, produced CrO3 and Cr3O8 oxide formation. It was found that the addition of Zr provided an increase in adhesion strength and corrosion resistance of the coatings. However, BG/Zr coatings had lower adhesion strength than the HA/Zr coatings, but showed higher corrosion resistance.

The effects of dietary antioxidants (vitamine E, vitamine C, Astaxhantin, beta carotene) on arginase activity and nitric oxide levels of hepatopancreas and muscle of freshwater crayfish (Actacus leptodactylus) were investigated during moulting. 150 mg kg(-1) vitamine E (VE), 200 mg kg(-1) vitamine C (VC), 200 mg kg(-1) Astaxhantin and 200 mg kg(-1) beta carotene were added to experimental diets. A. leptodactylus with these diets were fed with 2% of their total weight daily, in a day during 75 days. Arginase activity was increased in muscle of crayfish fed the diets VC, VE, astaxanthin and beta karoten but in hepatopancreas arginase activity was increased with beta carotene when compared to control. NO levels in muscle were decreased when compared to control but this decrease was not statically significant. NO levels in hepatopancreas of crayfish fed the diets VC and astaxanthin were higher than control groups. Our results demonstrated that dietary antioxidants affect the arginase activity and nitric oxide level of freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus, Esch. 1823) during moulting.

- MakaleYalnız künye2016Scopus SJRQ2Storm water retention and actual evapotranspiration performances of experimental green roofs in French oceanic climate
Yilmaz, D.; Sabre, M.; Lassabatère, L.; Dal, M.; Rodriguez, F.
Green roofs are promising urban management tools from the standpoint of both rainwater management and microclimatology. They are considered as a storm water mitigation technique and may also favour evapotranspiration fluxes, which can be beneficial for urban comfort during summer periods. In France, however, water retention performance of green roofs remains unknown, and published values are often unsuitable. Six experimental roofs, including two thicknesses of growing media, three types of vegetation cover and bare surfaces, were monitored for two years in Nantes and compared to an experimental gravel flat roof. The thickest media combined with the most densely vegetated cover yields the best results in terms of storm water mitigation and actual evapotranspiration. In winter, the rainwater retention performance is clearly dependent on the type of experimental roof vegetation. This kind of experimental set-up is well suited to assisting urban planners design tools for storm water mitigation in buildings.

Guner, Yusuf; Kizak, Volkan; Altunok, Muhammet; Celik, Ihsan
This study is the first spawning and larval rearing of the F-1 hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops female X M. saxatilis male) grown in culture conditions in Turkey. The F-1 Hybrid striped bass was fed with commercial pellet feed in floating net cages. They reached the sexual maturity at two years old. Female brood fish were given 30 mu g/kg of LHRH-a (Lutenizing hormone releasing hormone analogue) and male fish given 10 mu g/kg; of CHP(Dried carp pituitary), 4 mg/kg was used for the female and half that amount for the male for induced breeding. The fish injected LHRHa were successfully induced to both strip spawning and tank spawning by a single hormone injection. However, fish injected CPH and saline, untreated control did not spawn. Latency period was found to be 20.41 +/- 0.91 hour. In term of fertilization rate, larval deformity rate no significant difference was found between tank spawning and strip spawning (p>0.05). Fertilization rates ranged from 56.3% to 85.4% and hatch rates were between 0.99% and 46.88%, whereas the level of larval deformities ranged between 81.25% and 100%. Hatched larvae were placed into 400-liter rectangular tanks with water discharge of 4 liter/minute at a stocking density of 30 larvae/liter. After larvae hatching, they were given artemia nauplii for 5-19 days. Trout granule feed (300-500 micron) also started to be given in addition to artemia nauplii afterwards. Granule feed was started eating completely 24 th days. The larvae obtained from a single hatch in the production season reached 2.87 cm length in 32 days with 2.7% survival rate. Of this study was terminated due to white spot disease (Ichtyophthirius multifilis) arising from sudden change in water temperature. The F-2 progenies were not deemed to be available for aquaculture due to poor fertilization, poor hatching, low survival rate and high deformity rate. For the progenies of the hybrid striped bass that grow in natural water, it was suggested that their ecology in waters in Turkey be first studied and brought into aquaculture afterwards.
