Enhancing the mechanical and durability properties of fly ash/GGBS-based geopolymer mortars using dunite and polypropylene fibers

Cemalgil, Selim; Gülmez, Nihan; Yön, Merve Şahin; Karataş, Mehmet

Polypropylene (PP) fiber-reinforced geopolymer mortar reduces the high brittleness of conventional geopolymer made with natural aggregates. However, the effects of different precursor materials on the performance of PP fiber-reinforced self-compacting geopolymer mortar (SCGM) remain unclear. This study investigates the feasibility of using dunite (D), a magnesium-rich ultramafic rock with consistent mineralogy and low processing energy demand that enhances thermal stability and durability, as an alternative precursor for fly ash (FA)/ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS)-based geopolymers. The study examined the workability, flexural and compressive strengths, and sorptivity of mortars cured at 20 ± 2°C and 60 ± 5% relative humidity, as well as their durability under freeze–thaw cycles and high-temperature exposure. Interfacial interactions between aggregates and the geopolymer matrix, along with microstructural and morphological changes caused by fire, were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were also performed for detailed material characterization. The mix containing 30% dunite exhibited the highest flexural strength, reaching 5.70 MPa at 28 days, the highest among all mixes. Under fire exposure, the mix containing 10% dunite significantly reduced mechanical strength loss and retained about 33.3% higher residual flexural strength than the FA–slag control mix at 600°C.

Optimization and Modeling of Brilliant Yellow Removal Via Neodymium-Infused Polymeric Hydrogel: A Central Composite Design Study

Pıhtılı Yıldız, Güzin; Tanyol, Mehtap; Demir, Ferhat

This study investigates the adsorption performance of a neodymium (III)-reinforced Poly(acrylamide-co-N-vinylimidazole) hydrogel composite [P(AAm-co-NVI)/Nd3+] for the removal of brilliant yellow (BY) dye from aqueous media. The hydrogel structure and metal–polymer interactions were characterized using FT-IR, TGA, SEM, and XRD analyses. The adsorption process was systematically optimized using a central composite design (CCD) approach combined with response surface methodology (RSM). The CCD-RSM second-order model exhibited a good fit to the experimental data (R2 = 0.9350), as supported by ANOVA. Numerical optimization revealed a maximum removal efficiency of 99.13% at a hydrogel dosage of 0.08 g/100 mL, an initial BY concentration of 81.68 mg/L, and a contact time of 61.73 min. Langmuir and the Freundlich isotherms were used in modeling the adsorption data. When the correlation coefficients of both models were compared, it was observed that the Langmuir isotherm provided a better fit for adsorption. The enhanced adsorption performance is attributed to the presence of Nd3+ ions, which promote additional electrostatic interactions and coordination sites between the hydrogel matrix and anionic dye molecules. The results demonstrate that Nd3+-reinforced hydrogels can serve as efficient and tunable adsorbent systems, particularly when process parameters are optimized statistically.

    EBA-Net: A hybrid EfficientNetB3-BiLSTM-Attention model for species-level diatom classification

Balo Utku, Esen Damla; Kutlu, Banu; Utku, Anil

Species identification in diatoms is important for assessing water bodies, determining environmental quality, and analyzing biodiversity. Nonetheless, diatom classification has proven difficult due to intra-class variation, interclass similarity, and data imbalance in microscopic images. In this regard, we propose a new deep learning approach for species-level diatom classification. Various deep learning models, including traditional convolutional neural networks or CNNs (ResNet50, DenseNet121), state-of-the-art CNNs (EfficientNetB3, Xception, MobileNetV3), transformer-based architectures (ViT-B16, Swin-Tiny), and our proposed EBA-Net (EfficientNetB3-BiLSTM-Attention Network), were extensively compared under identical experimental settings. The EBA-Net integrates the advantages of convolutional feature extraction, sequence modeling, and an attention mechanism to improve classification accuracy. It first uses the EfficientNetB3 model as the backbone network to obtain higher-level features, followed by a BiLSTM layer to capture dependencies among the extracted features. Then, it applies the attention mechanism to the BiLSTM output to highlight the most informative features. Experimental results showed that the proposed EBA-Net model outperforms other models considered in the study, yielding 95.8% accuracy and 85.1% macro F1-score. In addition, Top-3 (98.9%) and Top-5 (99.6%) accuracies confirmed the efficiency of the proposed model for classifying objects from visually similar classes. An analysis of the model's interpretability was conducted using Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping, showing that the proposed model's attention is concentrated on relevant morphological features of diatoms. To the best of our knowledge, the suggested approach achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on the data set of diatoms used.

Mechanical and durability properties of sustainable alkali-activated mortars with ceramic insulator waste and andesite powder as partial substitutes for GBFS

Cemalgil, Selim; Yön, Merve Şahin; Dener, Murat; Karataş, Mehmet

This study explores the use of andesite powder (AP) and ceramic waste powder (CWP), derived from discarded electrical insulators, as supplementary precursors to ground granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) in alkali-activated self-compacting mortars. The originality of the work lies in the combined utilization of these regionally sourced aluminosilicate wastes in binary and ternary binder systems, aiming to reduce GBFS dependency while ensuring adequate mechanical and durability performance. AP and CWP were used to replace GBFS at up to 50%, and the mixtures were evaluated for flowability, mechanical strength, density, porosity, water absorption, and capillary sorptivity. Durability was assessed through freeze–thaw cycling and high temperature exposure, and microstructural characteristics were examined using scanning electron microscope analysis. Results showed that while partial substitution with AP or CWP reduced compressive strength compared to the GBFS control, the incorporation of CWP in ternary systems partially compensated for the strength losses associated with AP. High temperature resistance improved markedly with increased CWP content; at 900°C, the 50% CWP mixture retained 44% of its original compressive strength, in contrast to 8% for the control. Although all mixtures containing waste exhibited reduced freeze–thaw resistance, mortars containing CWP exhibited superior performance compared to those with only AP. These findings highlight the potential of CWP, particularly in ternary systems, for developing sustainable alkali-activated mortars.

Impact of Postharvest Oxalic Acid Treatments on Quality Properties and Biochemical Composition of Medlar (Mespilus germanica L.) Fruit

Çolak, Ayşen Melda; Gündoğdu, Özlem; Aglar, Erdal; Sezgin, Nevzat; Orman, Erdal; Gundogdu, Muttalip

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of oxalic acid (OA) applications at different concentrations on the quality traits and biochemical components of medlar (Mespilus germanica L.) fruit. Fruits harvested in Bolu province in 2024 were subjected to control (0) and 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mM OA applications and stored at 4°C and 90% ± 5% relative humidity for 45 days. Samples were taken from the fruits at certain intervals (0, 15, 30, and 45 days) and analyzed. Specifically, 1.0 and 1.5 mM OA applications significantly reduced fruit weight loss and decay rates. OA also inhibited increases in fruit respiration rate and pH and slowed the decline in total acidity, soluble solids content (SSC), vitamin C, phenolic compounds, and organic acids. Malic, citric, succinic, tartaric, and fumaric acids, vitamin C, and important phenolic compounds (chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, quercetin, catechin) were protected by OA applications, and this protection was most pronounced at 1.5 mM OA dose. The correlation analyses revealed significant relationships between quality parameters and biochemical contents. The weight loss and decay rate were negatively correlated with bioactive compounds such as gallic acid and ascorbic acid, indicating that quality deterioration progressed in parallel with the decrease in nutrient content. A strong positive correlation was found between titratable acidity and malic and citric acids. In principal component analysis (PCA), malic and citric acids were prominent in the early storage period, while weight loss, decay, and increased respiration became dominant in the late storage period. Phenolic compounds decreased significantly with storage time, and antioxidant capacity decreased. Heat map analysis visually supported the increase in spoilage parameters with the decrease in ascorbic acid and phenolic compounds. OA applications maintained the quality of medlar fruit and increased biochemical stability, extending postharvest life. 1.5 mM OA, in particular, stands out as an effective postharvest preservation method. These results demonstrate that OA offers significant potential for increasing the commercial value of perishable fruits like medlar and for developing preservation technologies.

High-temperature, freeze–thaw, and sulfate resistance of mortars incorporating ternary blends of fly ash, chromite, and waste glass

    Gülmez, Nihan; Kanellopoulos, Antonios

The demand for sustainable construction materials promotes the use of industrial waste in cement-based systems. This study examines mortars incorporating fly ash (FA) (0%, 7.5%, and 15%), waste glass, and chromite aggregates for mechanical and durability performance. Specimens underwent compressive strength, freeze–thaw, high-temperature, sulfate attack, and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests, while microstructure was characterized by x-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive spectroscopy. Mortars with 7.5% FA exhibited relatively high compressive strength and improved freeze–thaw resistance. The combined use of chromite and FA improved strength retention at 800°C, reaching 23 MPa with 7.5% FA and 50% chromite. The greatest sulfate resistance occurred in mortars containing 15% FA and 15% waste glass, maintaining compressive strengths of 61 and 70.9 MPa after MgSO4 and Na2SO4 exposure, respectively.

Pomological and Biochemical Characterization of Autochthonous Grape Varieties Grown in Türkiye

Karasu, Yakup; Dogan, Adnan; Aykut, Semih; Ozturk, Burhan; Aglar, Erdal

Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is an important fruit crop with considerable morphological and biochemical diversity, and autochthonous genotypes represent valuable genetic resources for breeding and conservation programs. Many local varieties remain underexplored in terms of pomological and antioxidant traits. Eighteen indigenous grape genotypes collected from Muş province (Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye) were evaluated using morphological and biochemical parameters, including berry traits, phenolic composition, vitamin C, and antioxidant activity. Multivariate analyses including PCA, HCA, and Pearson correlation were performed to classify genotypes and determine trait relationships. The first two PCA components explained 51.9% of the total variation. Antioxidant-related traits mainly contributed to PC1, whereas berry size and anthocyanin content influenced PC2. HCA grouped the genotypes into distinct clusters according to antioxidant capacity and pomological characteristics. Correlation analysis showed significant positive relationships among antioxidant-related parameters. Berry size traits were positively correlated with each other, but negatively associated with seed number and skin thickness. The combined use of pomological, biochemical, and multivariate analyses proved useful for genotype classification. The identification of antioxidant-rich genotypes may support future breeding and conservation studies. The results highlight the importance of indigenous grape germplasm for sustainable viticulture.

The Efficacy of Structured Exercise Program Versus Aerobic Exercise in Tension-Type Headache: A Randomised Clinical Trial

    Ataş, Kübra; Mutlu, Ebru Kaya

Background: Despite the widespread use of exercise in managing tension-type headache, there remains a lack of research on the effectiveness of combined structured exercise programs. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a structured exercise program versus aerobic exercise of equal duration on tension-type headache (TTH). Methods: Fifty-four female participants aged between 18 and 55 years were randomised to receive a 12-week exercise program, conducted twice a week for 45 min per session. The Structured Exercise Group (SEG) participated in a combination of aerobic, strengthening, and stretching exercises, whereas the Aerobic Exercise Group (AEG) performed only aerobic exercises. The primary outcome measure was the Headache Impact Test (HIT-6), a quality-of-life questionnaire. Secondary outcome measures included headache intensity, disability level, pressure pain threshold, proprioception, muscle strength, cervical posture, exercise capacity, anxiety, and depression. Results: Both groups showed statistically significant improvements in quality of life, pain intensity, disability, anxiety, depression, exercise capacity, pressure pain threshold, and proprioception (p < 0.05). Between-group comparisons revealed that the SEG demonstrated significantly greater improvements in quality of life, pressure pain threshold, proprioception, muscle strength, and posture (p < 0.05), whereas the AEG showed superior gains in exercise capacity (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Both exercise programs appear similarly effective for self-reported outcomes. Based on clinical measurement results, we recommend incorporating strengthening and stretching exercises into the aerobic exercise program and extending the duration to 12 weeks for additional benefits. Significance Statement: This study highlights the clinical value of supervised, physiotherapist-led exercise and the integration of personalised, multi-component strategies in managing tension-type headache. While both structured and aerobic programs improved pain, activity, and participation, the structured approach provided additional benefits in pressure pain threshold, proprioception, muscle strength, and posture. Tailoring interventions to individual clinical needs and extending the duration beyond 8 weeks may further enhance outcomes.

Salvia, a widely recognized genus globally esteemed for its traditional and medicinal applications, prompted our investigation into the methanol and water extracts of eight Salvia species native to Turkey. These species included S. aucheri, S. candidissima, S. divaricata, S. virgata, S. multicaulis, S. palestina, S. trichoclada, and S. cerino-pruinosa. Our study aimed to assess their biological properties and chemical composition. Utilizing HPLC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS, we identified chemical constituents in the extracts, while antioxidant (radical quenching, reducing power, and metal chelating) and enzyme inhibitory (amylase, glucosidase, tyrosinase, and cholinesterase) activities were evaluated for biological activities. One hundred thirty-one compounds were characterized in the tested extracts. Although many compounds belonging to different chemical families were identified, the main compounds in all the extracts were rosmarinic and sagerinic acids, along with several salvianolic acid isomers. Notably, the methanol extracts displayed superior antioxidant properties overall, with S. cerino-pruinosa exhibiting the highest activity among them, except for metal chelating. Similar to the antioxidant test results, the methanol extracts were more active than the water extracts in the enzyme inhibition tests. Multivariate analysis further highlighted the distinctiveness of the water extract of S. cerino-pruinosa. In conclusion, our findings underscore the biopharmaceutical potential of the tested Salvia species, suggesting their significance as sources of bioactive agents for health-promoting applications.

Evaluating the high-temperature resistance of self-compacting mortar incorporating waste andesite powder as a mineral admixture

Karataş, Mehmet; Bozcan, Emre; Dener, Murat

Significant amounts of waste material are generated at various stages of andesite stone processing, including mining, cutting, and polishing. Despite this, limited research has been conducted on the potential use of waste andesite powder (WAP) as a mineral admixture. The impact of WAP on the high-temperature resistance of cement-based composites remains largely unexplored. This study aims to evaluate the benefits of incorporating WAP as a partial substitute for Portland cement. Self-compacting mortars (SCMs) with varying WAP replacement rates (5%–30%) were produced and subjected to temperatures of 300°C, 600°C, and 900°C. Additionally, ternary mixtures of WAP and silica fume were produced for comparative analysis. The results showed that SCMs containing up to 10% WAP exhibited higher 90-day compressive strength compared to the control sample. Furthermore, WAP inclusion improved high-temperature resistance, and the use of WAP at higher replacement rates was feasible when combined with mineral admixtures possessing high pozzolanic activity, such as silica fume.

Was the Formation of the North Anatolian Fault Influenced by the Aegean Extension?

Uysal, I. Tonguç; Karabacak, Volkan; Aykut, Tunahan; Ring, Uwe; Liu, Entao; Sancar, Taylan; Leonard, Nicole; Tong, Kui; Todd, Andrew J.; Temel, Abidin

The North Anatolian Fault (NAF), one of the most prominent plate boundary continental fault systems on Earth, facilitates the westward movement of the Anatolian microplate into the Aegean region. The temporal and spatial evolution of the NAF is important for understanding the mechanism of escape tectonics during plate interaction in active orogenic regions. The driving force(s) behind the movement of the NAF and the time period over which this occurred remain controversial. Our U–Pb and K–Ar dating of syntectonic minerals shows that a predecessor faulting initiated as early as ~40 Ma due to shortening along the Neo-Tethyan suture zone. Fault reactivations occurred at ~20 and 10 Ma synchronously in eastern and western Anatolia, suggesting that the NAF already existed by ~20 Ma. Our data also show that the westward motion of Anatolia was not only controlled by the Arabia–Eurasia collision in eastern Anatolia, but also by Aegean extension.

Yagi, Sakina; Zengin, Gokhan; Cetiz, Mehmet Veysi; Cziáky, Zoltán; Jeko, József; Bahşi, Muammer; Çakılcıoğlu, Uğur; Turumtay, Halbay; Aktumsek, Abdurrahman

Phlomis species (family Lamiaceae) are highly valued as food and herbal medicine. The present study is designed to investigate the chemical composition and antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities of extracts from P. fruticosa, P. herba-venti, and P. kurdica aerial parts. Different classes of metabolites, including phenolic acids, phenylethanoids, flavonoids, iridoids, organic acids, terpenes, and fatty acids, are identified in the three species, with methanol as the best solvent to recover bioactive compounds from the three species in addition to ethyl acetate for P. kurdica. Around 70% methanol extract of P. herba-venti exerts the best radical scavenging and ions-reducing properties, while its methanol extract exhibits the highest acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity. The ethyl acetate extract of P. fruticosa displays the best chelating power, and its other polar extracts have the highest total antioxidant activity. Furthermore, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations have underscored the therapeutic potential of bioactive compounds, including isoverbascoside, samioside, forsythoside B, and hattushoside. In conclusion, the study indicates that these three Phlomis species are a rich source of bioactive molecules with possible therapeutic applications, and the selection of appropriate extraction solvents is crucial for the targeted biological activity.

Automated Detection of Neurological and Mental Health Disorders Using EEG Signals and Artificial Intelligence: A Systematic Review

Uyanik, Hakan; Sengur, Abdulkadir; Salvi, Massimo; Tan, Ru-San; Tan, Jen Hong; Acharya, U. Rajendra

Mental and neurological disorders significantly impact global health. This systematic review examines the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to automatically detect these conditions using electroencephalography (EEG) signals. Guided by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA), we reviewed 74 carefully selected studies published between 2013 and August 2024 that used machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), or both of these two methods to detect neurological and mental health disorders automatically using EEG signals. The most common and most prevalent neurological and mental health disorder types were sourced from major databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, PubMed, and IEEE Xplore. Epilepsy, depression, and Alzheimer's disease are the most studied conditions that meet our evaluation criteria, 32, 12, and 10 studies were identified on these topics, respectively. Conversely, the number of studies meeting our criteria regarding stress, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, and autism spectrum disorders was relatively more average: 6, 4, 3, and 3, respectively. The diseases that least met our evaluation conditions were one study each of seizure, stroke, anxiety diseases, and one study examining Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy together. Support Vector Machines (SVM) were most widely used in ML methods, while Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) dominated DL approaches. DL methods generally outperformed traditional ML, as they yielded higher performance using huge EEG data. We observed that the complex decision process during feature extraction from EEG signals in ML-based models significantly impacted results, while DL-based models handled this more efficiently. AI-based EEG analysis shows promise for automated detection of neurological and mental health conditions. Future research should focus on multi-disease studies, standardizing datasets, improving model interpretability, and developing clinical decision support systems to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.

Effect of Ohmic Heating on the Quality and Nutrient Preservation of Plum Marmalade: A Comparison With Conventional Heating

Ekici, Seymanur; Omac, Basri; Sabanci, Serdal

In this study, plum marmalade was prepared using the ohmic heating method at three distinct voltage gradients (30, 35, and 40 V/cm). The quality properties of the marmalade prepared this way were contrasted with those prepared using the conventional heating method. Total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity (AA), vitamin C content, total color change (ΔE), hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and the amount of time needed for the process, including heating and evaporation, were all measured as part of the study. According to the findings, ohmic heating—specifically, a voltage gradient of 40 V/cm—significantly reduced the heating time when compared to the traditional method, which raised the stability of vitamin C, AA, and phenolic compounds. When ohmic heating was used instead of conventional heating, the amounts of TPC, AA, and vitamin C increased by 19.50%, 33.90%, and 149.12%, respectively. In comparison to traditional heating under atmospheric conditions, the results also showed that ohmic heating increased the amounts of gallic acid (40.61%), catechin (40.98%), chlorogenic acid (25.05%), and rutin (24.67%). Furthermore, the results showed that ohmic heating reduced the amount of HMF (34.34%) and ΔE (2.27%) in comparison to conventional heating. TPC, AA, vitamin C, gallic acid, catechin, chlorogenic acid, and rutin were higher than conventional heating; nevertheless, HMF and ΔE were lower than conventional heating at the applied ohmic heating process. The results obtained indicate a strong potential for an ohmic heating system as a rapid heating method for preserving nutritional value.

Evaluation of Nano-Zinc Borate Effects on Thermal Properties, Morphology, Antibacterial Activity, and Drug Release Behavior of Starch/Gelatin Hydrogel Films for Biomedical Applications

Koçak, Berna; Gürler, Nedim; İpek, Yeliz; Yazdıç, Ferit Can; Karaman, Altuğ

Starch and gelatin offer opportunities for use due to their non-toxicity, biocompatibility, physical and functional properties. In this study, different amounts of nano-zinc borate were added to starch/gelatin composition for biological applications and their properties were studied. The structure of the films was investigated by various techniques. Nanostructured zinc borate was synthesized using a chemical method and particle sizes were determined as 196 nm. The atenolol drug was doped into the polymer composite. The atenolol release was performed at pH 7.4 and in phosphate-buffered saline solution medium. Cumulative drug release was 76% with the inclusion of nano-zinc borate in the polymer mixture. The atenolol release was approximately 50%–70% in films with nano-zinc borate added after 300 min. Furthermore, thermal resistance of the films improved with the addition of nano-zinc borate. The investigated chemical compound exhibited pronounced antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus), with significantly greater potency compared to Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Notably, the formulation containing 1.5% starch, 0.5% gelatin, and 1% nano-zinc borate demonstrated broad-spectrum efficacy against all tested pathogens, highlighting its potential as a promising antibacterial agent. The observed differential activity against bacterial strains suggests that fine-tuning the concentrations of starch, gelatin, and nano-zinc borate may optimize antibacterial efficacy and broaden the spectrum. The results showed us that non-toxic and biocompatible polymer films can be realized in pharmaceutical industry systems and biomedical applications.

Synthesis of New Copolymer and Genotoxic Effects on Triticum aestivum L. (Wheat) Root Tip Cells

    Taşar, Neslihan; Torgut, Gülben

In the present study, a copolymer of poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) and sodium acrylate was synthesized with the Solution Polymerization Technique. The purpose was to uncover the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on root tip cells of the Triticum aestivum L. plant germinated with this polymer at different concentrations (25, 50, 100, and 200 ppm). The deposition of poly(DMAA-co-NaAc) copolymer in the study sample T. aestivum was demonstrated with the FTIR, UV–VIS spectroscopy analysis, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), SEM Element Map, and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) Spectrum. All concentrations of the poly(DMAA-co-NaAc) copolymer caused a decrease in the Mitotic Index (MI). The poly(DMAA-co-NaAc) copolymer caused various mitotic abnormalities such as loss of genetic material, deconstructed prophase, adhesion, chromosome groupings in metaphase, deconstructed metaphase, C-metaphase, chromosomal loss, chromosomal fracture, deconstructed anaphase, lagging chromosome, fragment, polar aberration, bridge, advancing, star anaphase, multipolarity, and deconstructed telophase. Study results show that poly(DMAA-co-NaAc) copolymer will cause abnormalities in mitosis as a result of its uptake by plants. These results also show that the poly(DMAA-co-NaAc) polymer, which affects organisms, must be produced in a controlled setting to reduce its accumulation in nature and ultimately disposed of in a way that will not harm the environment.

Dogan, Hande; Aglar, Erdal; Ozturk, Burhan; Tekin, Onur; Alan, Davut; Sumbul, Ahmet

The aim of this study was to examine the genotypes of wild blackberries growing naturally in Tunceli province in terms of fruit characteristics and to determine the ones with superior characteristics. Nine different genotypes were determined by population screening and 100 fruits were collected from each genotype. The physical properties such as fruit weight, length, width, as well as color, chemical content, and antioxidant properties were examined. Statistically significant differences were found among the genotypes; fruit weight, length, and width varied between 0.71 and 1.19 g, 10.08 and 12.63 mm, and 12.25 and 14.33 mm, respectively. The G9 genotype had the largest fruits, and the G6 genotype had the smallest fruits. In fruit color analyses, significant differences were observed among the genotypes, and the G2 genotype stood out with the highest L* value (20.05), but G9 had the lowest a* value (0.92). Total soluble solids (TSS) content varied between 11.95% in G2 and 21.10% in G7. Vitamin C content was highest in the G6 genotype (54.46 mg 100 g−1), while G9 had the lowest vitamin C content (22.66 mg 100 g−1). Significant differences were also observed among the genotypes in terms of phenolic content, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and antioxidant activity. As a result, in this study, significant differences in organic acid contents were determined among wild blackberry genotypes in Tunceli province. The G1 genotype was the richest in malic acid, while the G6 was the genotype with the highest ascorbic acid level. Various differences were also found among the genotypes in terms of oxalic acid, citric acid, and other organic acid contents. These findings may constitute an important resource in determining the commercial production and potential health benefits of wild blackberries. In the selection of blackberry genotypes, consideration of these organic acid contents is important, especially in terms of taste and nutritional value.

High-Entropy Alloys and Oxides as Supercapacitor Electrodes: A Structural and Electrochemical Perspective for Energy Storage

Başgöz, Öyküm; Güngör, Ahmet; Güler, Ömer; Erdem, Emre

This study investigates the performance of high entropy alloys [Fe3Cr3Mn2NiV, HEA)] and high entropy oxides [(Fe3Cr3Mn2NiV)O4, HEO)] as electrode materials for supercapacitors. HEA is synthesized through mechanical alloying, followed by HEO forming via an oxidation process. XRD results demonstrate HEA comprises both amorphous and crystalline phases, whereas HEO has an entirely crystalline structure. SEM analyses showed HEA exhibits larger and irregular particles, whereas HEO displays a smaller and spherical morphology. EPR analyses revealed significant changes in defect structures and unpaired electron configurations during the transition from HEA to HEO. HEA is prone to diffusion-controlled processes due to their regular structure and strong magnetic interactions; however, HEO exhibits capacitive behavior based on surface redox reactions and pseudo-capacitive mechanisms due to their irregular structure and oxygen vacancies. CV analyses revealed that HEO contributes more capacitive via surface redox reactions, while GCPL results suggested that HEO demonstrated superior energy density (40.8 Wh kg−1) and power density (14.3 kW kg−1). Impedance analyses revealed that HEO exhibited reduced internal resistance and enhanced ion conductivity, whereas HEA demonstrated higher resistance and diffusion-controlled processes. In conclusion, HEA and HEO exhibit distinct energy storage mechanisms, and these materials can be optimized for supercapacitor applications.

The Relationship Between Employment Guilt and Psychological Resilience Levels of Working Mothers

Orhan, İlksen; Ünal, Esra; Ağralı, Cansu

Psychological resilience is a significant factor affecting feelings of guilt, as it helps mothers maintain a better balance between work and family responsibilities. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between employment guilt and the psychological resilience levels of working mothers. The research involved 483 working mothers residing in Osmaniye province, Turkey, who were employed in various fields. In this cross-sectional correlational study, data were collected online via Google Forms using the Personal Information Form, the Maternal Employment Guilt Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. The results of this study suggest that as the psychological resilience levels of working mothers increased, their employment guilt levels decreased. The results from this research can be used to identify potential interventions that could mitigate the negative effects of employment guilt on psychological resilience.
