Aksakal, B.; Karadogan, S.A.; Aslan, N.; Fidan, F.; Yilmazer, Y.; Sezek, S.
Zinc (Zn) and its alloys exhibit great potential for utilization in biodegradable bone implants. Zn-1Cu biodegradable alloy was produced and were cold rolled at two different deformation rates of 47 and 61%. The samples have been bioceramic coated with the sol–gel method and microstructure-mechanical property changes, corrosion behavior and biocompatibility of the samples were investigated. They were characterized by Optical, SEM, XRD and wettability analysis. The rolled samples showed a significant increase in hardness when compared to the non-rolled samples. The unrolled and 47% rolled samples showed better corrosion resistance compared to 61% rolled samples. Antibacterial effects of the base and sol–gel-coated groups showed higher cell viability ratios than the uncoated groups. Cell viability increased significantly in 47% of the rolled samples after 24, 48, and 72 h, however decreased by up to 70% in 61% of the rolled samples. Graphical abstract: (Figure presented.).

In this study, phylogenetic analysis of Turkish endemic Bornmuellera (Brassicaceae) species was conducted based on nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS) and chloroplast DNA (trnL intron, trnL-F, rbcL and trnQ-rps16 DNA) sequences. In addition, the relationships between the sequences of some Brassicaceae family species retrieved from NCBI, and Bornmuellera species were documented. All of the plant specimens were collected from different regions of Türkiye, and brought to the laboratory. Total genomic DNA was extracted using the GeneMark kit. After polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analyses, DNA sequences obtained were then edited using Sequencher 5.4, Bioedit 7.2.3 and FinchTV 1.4.0, and analyzed using MEGA 6.0 software. Maximum likelihood (ML) and bootstrap trees were constructed in order to identify the relationships among Bornmuellera species. In the study, the highest nucleotide diversity was detected by rps16-trnQ (0.039146) sequence analysis, while the lowest was detected by rbcL (0.004186) sequence analysis. In addition, according to the phylogenetic analysis results obtained with other Brassicaceae species, it is revealed that the Turkish endemic Bornmuellera genus is monophyletic.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2023Determining the Criterion Weights for the Selection of Volunteers in Humanitarian Organizations by the Best-Worst Method
Ozdemir, Umit; Mete, Suleyman; Gul, Muhammet
Today, it is vital for humanitarian organizations operating in many different fields to select volunteers from the determining criteria according to the needs of the institution. Failure to select volunteers in accordance with the institution's needs may cause the volunteers to be unable to continue their duties and interrupt the institution's work. When choosing volunteers, it is essential for effective volunteer management to classify (expert, experienced, inexperienced, and insufficient) them according to the institution’s needs and assign them starting from the volunteer in the best class volunteer when necessary. The aim of this study is to determine the criteria weights in the classification of volunteers who want to participate in search and rescue activities in humanitarian aid organizations according to the criteria determined before their assignment. In this study, a questionnaire is applied to field experts in Turkey to determine the most important and least important criteria, then criteria weights are calculated by using the Best-Worst Method (BWM). The findings obtained as a result of our study are evaluated and suggestions are made on how to improve it for future studies.

Konurhan, Zekeriya; Yucesan, Melih; Gul, Muhammet; Rezaei, J; Brunelli, M; Mohammadi, M
The world has recently tended to turn to renewable energy sources due to the serious negative impact of fossil fuels on the environment. One of the top priorities for solar energy is the selection of the most suitable location of the solar power plant to be established. In this study, the most suitable solar power plant location selection for Tunceli, a province located in the eastern part of Turkey, is studied with an approach based on Geographic Information System (GIS) and the best-worst method (BWM). A weighting was performed using the BWM model for 16 sub-criteria under four the main criteria of “climatic conditions, geographical conditions, land conditions, and location (distance to crucial points)”. Afterward, maps were created for these criteria, and a 6-point scale in the legends of each map for each sub-criteria was applied. Finally, the most suitable locations were determined with GIS-based calculations.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2023Avalanche Risk Analysis by a Combined Geographic Information System and Bayesian Best-Worst Method
Konurhan, Zekeriya; Yücesan, Melih; Gul, Muhammet
The formation of avalanches is related to the land structure, climatic conditions, and snow cover. It is usually seen in mountainous and sloping terrains without vegetation. In Turkey, especially in Eastern Anatolia and the Black Sea Region, which have high elevations, avalanche events are observed. This study aims to perform a risk analysis by integrating the Bayesian Best-Worst method (BWM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) for Tunceli province, which is the scene of significant avalanche events. Bayesian BWM is a method that improves the original BWM by effectively integrating the preferences of multiple experts. In the study, 16 sub-criteria, such as elevation, slope, and the number of snowy days, were determined, and experts evaluated these criteria through questionnaires created. The weight of each criterion were calculated using the Bayesian-BWM. By integrating the criteria weights from the Bayesian-BWM model into GIS, the risky places for natural avalanche disasters in Tunceli province were determined, according to which the risk in the northern part of the study area is identified as high.

Malkoç, Türkan; Kanca, Muhammed Sait; Işık, Erdem; Kök, Mediha
This study aimed to explore the influence of electron concentration on the NiMnSn alloy, which is a crucial ferromagnetic shape memory alloy (FSMA). The alloy was doped with various amounts of iron element to assess its effect. According to DSC measurement, iron doping has resulted in a general decrease in the transformation temperature value of NiMnSn alloy, as well as a decrease in the transformation enthalpy value. The orthorhombic martensite phase of NiMnSn alloy was replaced by L21 austenite crystal structure in X-ray measurements. Martensite, austenite, and precipitate phases were observed in SEM images. Iron doping significantly increased the magnetic saturation value of NiMnSn alloy, according to magnetic measurements, and thermomagnetic measurements revealed similar results. - MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ2ZrN and ta-C coatings on titanium for biomedical applications: Improved adhesion, corrosion, antibacterial activity, and cytotoxicity properties
Aslan, Naim; Aksakal, Bünyamin; Cihangir, Salih; Cetin, Fadime; Yilmazer, Yasemin
Commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) is extensively used in biomedical applications. However, numerous qualities, including mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, must be established for long-term performance as an implant material. This study investigates the enhancement of surface properties of CP-Ti through physical vapor deposition (PVD) with ZrN and ta-C (tetrahedral amorphous carbon). Among the coatings, ZrN revealed best overall results, such as adhesion, corrosion, microhardness, and wettability, excluding cell viability when compared to ta-C. E. coli and S. aureus were employed for antibacterial activity and MTS cell viability experiments. Compared to α-titanium, hardness tests revealed 91% increase in ZrN coating, and %22 increase in ta-C coating. Super-hydrophobicity and excellent antibacterial activity were found for ZrN coatings in comparison to ta-C. These findings emphasize the potential of ZrN and ta-C coatings to improve the surface properties of titanium, encouraging it to be used in biomedical devices. - Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2022A Multi-attribute Decision-Making to Sustainable Construction Material Selection: A Bayesian BWM-SAW Hybrid Model
Alkan, Ramazan; Yucesan, Melih; Gul, Muhammet; Rezaei, J; Brunelli, M; Mohammadi, M
The increase in urbanization and developments in the production industry has led to rapid progress in the construction sector. Many new strategies are developed in the industry to reduce costs and improve building quality. In recent years, the necessity of sustainable construction practices comes to the fore to renew the building stock damaged as a result of natural disasters and reduce the cost concerns that arise in this situation to a reasonable level. Due to limited resources and environmental concerns, researchers and practitioners have begun to develop sustainable building materials. The problem of selecting these materials when constructing a new building is vital. In particular, depending on the sector's rapid growth in Turkey, it is becoming more and more important to select the best sustainable construction material. Therefore, this paper proposes a model to evaluate the most appropriate sustainable construction material via two multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) methods called “Bayesian Best-Worst Method (BWM) and Simple Additive Weighting (SAW)”. Initially, the criteria derived from existing literature were evaluated with the aid of construction sector-based respondents and extra information about the interrelationship between the criteria were determined by credal ranking in Bayesian BWM. Then, via SAW, the most appropriate material was selected among a set of alternatives. Two cases regarding sustainable insulating material selection are considered for the demonstration of the proposed MADM model.

- MakaleYalnız künye2021Scopus SJRQ1Failure prioritization and control using the neutrosophic best and worst method
Yucesan, Melih; Gul, Muhammet
Failure prioritization process is described by identifying potential failures and its effects, quantifying their priorities and determining appropriate ways to mitigate or control. In the literature, many approaches are suggested to prioritize failures and associated effects quantitatively. Multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches are forefront that they can express the failures verbally based on decision-makers’ judgments. They explain different types of uncertainties, which are generally modeled by fuzzy sets. However, fuzzy sets focus only on one membership value in decision-making. At this point, neutrosophic sets are more suitable than classical fuzzy sets by proposing three membership values named truth-membership, indeterminacy-membership and falsity-membership. Therefore, in this study, a novel approach based on the neutrosophic best and worst method (NBWM) is proposed and a case study is also performed in the implant production. The best and worst method (BWM) is merged with neutrosophic sets since it has fewer pairwise comparisons while determining the importance weights of failures. To show the applicability of the approach, a case study in an implant manufacturing plant that produces many products, including implants in different shapes and sizes in Turkey is carried out. Besides the case study, a comparative study is performed to test the validity of the proposed NBWM approach. This approach can make the decision-making process more dynamic in real-world problems with indeterminate and inconsistent information, considering the benefits of BWM and neutrosophic sets either individually or in integration. The present study contributes to the knowledge both methodologically and in an application by proposing NBWM for failure assessment problems for the first time in the literature and creating an adaptive model for manufacturing and other industries.
