- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Exploring Health Literacy, Anxiety, and Perception Among Nursing and Allied Health Students in Turkey: A Cross-Sectional Study
Yeşiltepe, Akgün; Daşbilek, Ferhat; Ayhan, Mehmet Osman
Background: Health literacy, anxiety, and perception directly affect healthcare students' readiness for professional roles. Assessing these factors is crucial to enhance both their well-being and patient care quality. This study examined health literacy, health anxiety, and health perception among Health Sciences students and their links to socio-demographic factors. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive design was used in accordance with the STROBE guidelines. The sample, consisting of 258 students from Munzur University Faculty of Health Sciences, was selected using stratified and simple random sampling methods. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, the Health Literacy Scale, the Health Anxiety Inventory, and the Health Perception Scale. Descriptive statistics, Mann−Whitney U, Kruskal−Wallis tests with Bonferroni correction, and Spearman's correlation analysis were conducted using SPSS 26 and JASP 0.19. Results: Students demonstrated inadequate health literacy (17.75 ± 11.37) and moderate health perception (43.43 ± 6.25); the mean health anxiety score was 18.78 ± 6.14. A weak but statistically significant positive correlation was found between health literacy and health anxiety (r = 0.225, p < 0.05) and between health perception and health anxiety (r = 0.215, p < 0.05); however, no significant correlation was observed between health literacy and health perception (r = 0.090, p > 0.05). Health perception revealed statistically significant differences according to maternal education level, place of residence, and frequency of reading health-related research. Health literacy significantly differed by academic department, year of study, perceived health status, and perceived usefulness of online health information. Health anxiety varied significantly by the presence of chronic illness, chronic illness status, perceived health status, medication use, and alcohol/tobacco consumption. Conclusion: The findings highlight the complex interplay between cognitive (health literacy), emotional (health anxiety), and perceptual (health perception) dimensions of student health. Promoting digital health literacy and providing counselling services may help reduce health anxiety and enhance self-awareness among health sciences students.

Rare-earth oxide nanoparticles offer a strategy to tune dielectric films via interfacial polarization while maintaining low-loss insulating behavior. Here, polystyrene/samarium oxide (PS/Sm2O3) nanocomposite films containing 0, 1, 3, 5, and 10 wt.% Sm2O3 were fabricated by solvent casting and evaluated as a low-loss dielectric for frequency-sensitive electronic applications. FTIR, XRD, SEM/EDX, and XPS confirmed successful Sm2O3 incorporation, preservation of the PS structure, formation of PS/Sm2O3 interfacial regions, and Sm3+/Sm–O species. XRD revealed amorphous PS with increasingly intense crystalline Sm2O3 reflections, whereas SEM/EDX showed relatively uniform filler distribution at low and moderate loadings and partial agglomeration at 10 wt.%. Dielectric spectroscopy at room temperature from 1 kHz to 1 MHz showed a frequency-dependent response governed by interfacial polarization and limited charge transport. At 1 kHz, the dielectric constant increased from 8.67241 ± 0.00280 for pure PS to 10.13061 ± 0.00641 for PS-10, while the loss tangent remained low (∼ 0.068). The dielectric loss increased moderately from 0.59535 ± 0.00236–0.69194 ± 0.00710, and AC conductivity rose from (3.31202 ± 0.01314) × 10−10 to (3.84935 ± 0.03948) × 10−10 S cm−1. These results indicate interface-controlled dielectric enhancement without conductive percolation, highlighting PS/Sm2O3 films for capacitor dielectric layers, insulating films, flexible electronics, and frequency-sensitive dielectric technologies.

This study investigates the structural, mechanical, and experimental gamma-ray attenuation properties of Fe-Co-Ni-Cr-W high-entropy alloy (HEA) composites reinforced with varying concentrations of Dy2O3 and B4C. A series of samples (S0-S4) was synthesized via vacuum arc melting to evaluate the synergistic effects of rare-earth oxide and carbide additions on a stable multi-component matrix. Thermodynamic assessments confirmed that the base alloy aligns with solid-solution formation criteria (1.61R configurational entropy, Ω = 10.33), which was experimentally validated by XRD patterns revealing a consistent FCC crystal structure across all compositions. SEM-EDS mapping further verified the successful integration of reinforcements as discrete secondary phases within the HEA matrix. Mechanical characterization showed that ceramic incorporation significantly enhances the hardness of the monolithic HEA, with the hybrid-reinforced S3 sample achieving a peak value of 628 HV. This improvement is attributed to the combined effects of oxide dispersion strengthening and microstructural refinement induced by B4C. Experimental gamma-ray transmission tests, conducted using a high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector in the 276-383 keV energy range, demonstrated that the S3 configuration provides the most efficient shielding performance, characterized by the lowest transmission factors. Interestingly, the results suggest that beyond an optimal threshold, increased reinforcement loading, as seen in S4 sample, may lead to minor performance trade-offs due to phase distribution dynamics. The findings highlight that the development of multifunctional HEA-based shields requires a delicate balance between reinforcement volume fraction and microstructural homogeneity to maximize both structural and shielding efficiency.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Loneliness as a predictor of quality of life in older adults receiving primary health care in Türkiye: a cross-sectional study
Atila, Dinçer; Yeşiltepe, Akgün; Çal, Ayşe
Background: Loneliness and social isolation among older adults is a growing concern in many societies, as the aging population continues to increase. The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between loneliness and quality of life in individuals aged 65 and over who apply to primary health care institutions. Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted face-to-face with 216 individuals aged 65 and over. The socio-demographic form and the Loneliness Scale for Elderly and Quality of Life Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. JASP 0.19, SPSS 26 analysis programs were used to perform t test, One Way ANOVA Bonferrroni test, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. Results: According to Pearson correlation analysis, strong negative relationships were found between quality of life and loneliness in the elderly. As quality of life increased, levels of loneliness, social loneliness, and emotional loneliness decreased (r = −0.854, r = −0.737, r = −0.717; p <0.001). While there was a strong positive relationship between the loneliness scale for elderly and the social loneliness sub-dimension (r = 0.867, p < 0.001), there was also a positive relationship between the loneliness scale for elderly and the emotional loneliness sub-dimension (r = 0.835, p < 0.001). A statistically significant difference was found between chronic disease, educational status, income status, marital status, and both loneliness and quality of life. Conclusion: Loneliness is an important predictor of quality of life among older adults. Both social and emotional loneliness are negatively associated with quality of life, indicating that higher levels of loneliness are linked to lower quality of life in this population.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Comparative Study of Enzymatic and Oxidative Polymerization of a Benzothiazole-Based Schiff Base and Its Antibacterial Properties
Kaya, İsmet; Solmaz, Adnan; Abuawad, Mohammed Majed Shible
In this study, the Schiff base 1-(((6-nitrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl) imino)methyl)naphthalen-2-ol (NBTIMN) was synthesized and subsequently polymerized by two different methods. Oxidative polymerization in the presence of organic (o-(NBTIMN)-O) and aqueous alkaline media (o-(NBTIMN)-A) was one of the techniques. The other was enzyme-catalyzed oxidative polymerization (o-(NBTIMN)-E), which was conducted at room temperature with hydrogen peroxide and the enzyme horse radish peroxidase (HRP). The structures of the obtained oligomers were characterized using FT-IR, 1H-13C-NMR, UV–Vis, CV, and GPC analyses, and their electrochemical and optical band gaps were determined as 2.68, 2.66, and 2.49 eV, and 3.08, 2.90, and 3.07 eV for o-(NBTIMN)-O, o-(NBTIMN)-A, and o-(NBTIMN)-E, respectively. Thermal analyses demonstrated that the o-(NBTIMN)-O and o-(NBTIMN)-A derivatives exhibited enhanced thermal stability, characterized by higher decomposition temperatures and LOI values. SEM analyses revealed distinct differences in surface morphologies depending on the polymerization conditions. Antibacterial assays showed that o-(NBTIMN)-O exhibited the strongest broad-spectrum inhibition, whereas NBTIMN displayed pronounced activity against S. aureus. In contrast, o-(NBTIMN)-A and o-(NBTIMN)-E were found to be inactive. These results highlight the critical influence of polymerization conditions on both the physicochemical characteristics and the biological activities of the synthesized structures. Importantly, the comparative design of enzymatic and chemical polymerization demonstrates the potential for environmentally friendly synthesis strategies. The distinct electrochemical and thermal properties suggest applicability in electronics and sensor-related fields, while the pronounced antibacterial activity of o-(NBTIMN)-O holds promise for biomedical and antimicrobial applications.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2A New Product: Determination of Shelf Life of Fish Onion Rings at Freezer Temperature
Kuzgun, Nermin Karaton
The enrichment in terms of fish protein of fast food products is becoming increasingly important day by day. The aim of this study was to determine the shelf life of a new product—fish onion rings—under deep-freezing conditions (−18°C). Minced fish meat (180 g) was combined with minced onion (350 g), water (220 mL), corn flour (50 g), wheat flour (180 g), and salt (20 g), and the mixture was blended with a mixer until a homogeneous texture was obtained. Then, the mixture was shaped into onion rings using a dough-shaping tool (manually). The chemical, sensory, and microbiological quality attributes of the fish onion rings were recorded at 30-day intervals. In the samples, deterioration was observed at the end of the 180th day (as chemical, sensory, and microbiological quality). In the fish onion ring group, the TBA (0.07 ± 0.05–3.02 ± 0.97) and peroxide (0.19 ± 0.18–4.40 ± 0.31) values remained similar during storage. In the microbiological analysis of the experimental fish onion rings, the total viable count (TVC) was 2.63 ± 0.15 on Day 0. Furthermore, the samples underwent sensory evaluation for appearance, odor, and taste. It was determined that the most preferred group was the fish-supplemented group.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of oxalic acid (OA) and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) applications, both alone and in combination, on the preservation of postharvest quality characteristics of grapes. All samples were stored at 4 ± 1 °C and approximately 80–85% relative humidity for 28 days. The OA + MAP treatment most effectively limited weight loss (10.49%), soluble solids content (SSC; 20.62°Bx), and decay rate (1.78%), while providing the best preservation of total phenolic content (68.25% change), antioxidant activity (53.19% change), and individual phenolic compounds at the end of the storage period. A decrease in color parameters, including L* and a* values, was observed, with OA treatment particularly prominent in preserving the red color. Principal component analysis and hierarchical heatmap analysis confirmed distinct clustering of treatments from the control, highlighting the process efficiency of packaging-based interventions. The combination of OA and MAP treatments was more effective than either treatment alone in reducing quality losses in grapes during storage. Therefore, the widespread use of OA + MAP in commercial storage and marketing processes is recommended.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Pressure-induced transformation in NiTi-CuAg shape memory alloys: investigation of microstructural and thermodynamic changes
Tatar, Cengiz; Kök, Mediha; Kanca, M Sait; Balci, Esra; Qader, Ibrahim Nazem
Shape memory alloys (SMAs), particularly nickel-titanium (NiTi) based systems, are widely recognized for their unique shape memory effect and superelastic behavior, driven by reversible martensitic phase transformations. To enhance these functional properties for advanced applications, alloying with elements such as copper (Cu) and silver (Ag) has been explored. This study investigates the synthesis and characterization of a novel quaternary NiTiCuAg shape memory alloy. The alloy was fabricated via arc-melting from high-purity elemental powders, followed by application of varying uniaxial compressive pressures to assess their effects on phase transformation behavior. Thermal, structural, and microstructural properties were evaluated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy-Dispersive x-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), and x-ray Diffraction (XRD). The results aim to elucidate the combined effects of compositional tailoring and mechanical processing on the functional performance of NiTiCuAg SMAs, with implications for their use in high-performance, pressure-sensitive applications.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Enhancing durability of slag-based alkali-activated composites with dunite sand and carbon fiber: Sulfate, freeze–thaw, and thermal resistance optimization
Benli, Ahmet; Bürlükkara, Sadullah; Öz, Ali; Karataş, Mehmet; Kaplan, Gökhan
The replacement of natural river sand with sustainable alternatives is essential to reduce environmental degradation associated with aggregate extraction. In this context, dunite sand (DS), a magnesium-rich ultramafic mineral, was investigated as an eco-efficient fine aggregate in thermally cured slag-based alkali-activated composites (AACs), in combination with carbon fiber (CF) reinforcement. The study aims to clarify how aggregate substitution and fiber addition interact to control matrix densification, crack-bridging efficiency, and durability under aggressive conditions. Sixteen mixtures incorporating varying DS (0–100%) and CF (0–1.00%) contents were prepared and cured at 80°C to promote rapid slag activation and microstructural development. Mechanical performance, high-temperature resistance, sulfate durability, and freeze–thaw behavior were systematically evaluated. The results demonstrate that moderate DS substitution (~25%) significantly improves matrix compactness and interfacial quality through a micro-filler effect, leading to enhanced strength and durability. CF effectively bridge micro cracks and improve flexural and thermal performance; however, excessive fiber contents impair workability and increase porosity due to fiber clustering. Durability results confirm that optimized DS–CF combinations reduce thermal degradation, limit sulfate-induced deterioration, and enhance resistance to cyclic freezing. Overall, 25% DS replacement combined with limited CF content (≤0.50%) provides the best balance between mechanical performance and durability. The findings highlight the importance of controlling aggregate–fiber synergy and curing strategy to develop durable, thermally stable, and sustainable alkali-activated composites for harsh service environments.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Investigation of the Mechanical and Metallographic Effects of Adding 2-3% Al-Ti-Mo Elements to High-Entropy CoCrFeNi Alloys
Dilek, İlhan; Taşgın, Yahya; Kanca, Muhammed Sait; Kök, Mediha; Güler, Ömer
Recently, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have attracted significant attention due to their unique multicomponent composition and exceptional mechanical properties, such as high wear and corrosion resistance, making them superior to conventional alloys for advanced engineering applications. The effects of Al, Ti, and Mo addition on the microstructural and mechanical properties of CoCrFeNi-based HEAs were investigated. The alloys were produced via powder metallurgy and vacuum arc melting, with the addition of 2 and 3% Al, Ti, and Mo, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to perform microstructural characterization, while microhardness and wear tests were used to evaluate mechanical performance. The addition of Al and Ti enhanced the face-centered cubic phase stability and increased the hardness by improving the lattice structure. In contrast, the addition of Mo contributed to solid solution and precipitation hardening, resulting in a simpler microstructure and superior tribological performance. Among all compositions, the alloy with 3% Mo addition exhibited the highest hardness value (≈ 233.8 HV) and the lowest mass loss (4.3 mg) was observed, indicating a significant improvement in the wear resistance and mechanical strength. In conclusion, the addition of Ti and Mo to CoCrFeNi HEAs promotes solid solution, precipitation, and grain boundary hardening mechanisms, thereby enhancing microstructural integrity, hardness, and wear resistance. These findings suggest that such alloys are promising candidates for use as next-generation structural and tribological materials under demanding operational conditions.

Yüzüak, G. Durak; Yüzüak, E.
Flexible thermoelectric (TE) devices hold great promise for powering wearable electronics by harvesting the temperature difference between human skin and the environment. Conventional Bi2Te3, although efficient, suffers from rigidity and limited suitability for flexible applications, while organic alternatives typically lack sufficient TE performance. Here, we demonstrate an n-type BiSeTe thin film deposited on a flexible fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) substrate, incorporating a Cr buffer layer, achieving a room-temperature power factor of ∼3.9 μW.cm−1.K−2, which is within the range reported for flexible thin-film TE devices on polymer substrates. The film exhibits excellent mechanical resilience, retaining 90 % of its initial conductivity after 5000 bending cycles, and shows high thermal stability over 50 heating–cooling cycles with deviations below 1.5 %. A four-leg n-type prototype generates 10 mV and 70 nW at ΔT = 40 K, demonstrating its potential for powering low-energy wearable sensors. This work presents a scalable inorganic thin-film TE platform that effectively balances mechanical flexibility, device stability, and practical energy conversion performance for wearable and localized power generation applications.

Investigating the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Breathing Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SEBQ), a tool for measuring dysfunctional breathing. Ninety-two healthy adults (mean (range) age 29.4 (19–56) years; 39 males) were analysed. The SEBQ was translated and adapted into Turkish. At baseline, data were collected using the SEBQ, Nijmegen Questionnaire (NQ), breath-holding time, and Short Form 36 (SF-36). The SEBQ was repeated within 7–14 days. SEBQ validity was assessed through content, structural, and convergent/divergent validity analyses, while reliability was evaluated for internal consistency, stability, and reproducibility. One item was removed based on exploratory factor analysis. The SEBQ has a two-factor structure and explains 50.1% of total variance, confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. It has a positive correlation with the NQ and a negative correlation with SF-36 subscales, but not with breath-holding time and general health. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.931, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.814. The Standard Error of Measurement and Smallest Real Difference were 5.06 and 15.03, respectively. The SEBQ is well-structured, valid, internally consistent, stable, and reproducible for assessing subjective unexplained respiratory symptoms in the Turkish population.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2From Material to Meaning: The Sensory and Conceptual Life of Silk in Turkish
Korkut, Gizem; Bayraktar Erten, Nesrin
This article examines silk as a meaning-generating material in Turkish, where sensory, material, and cultural dimensions intersect. Rather than treating silk as a mere lexical item, it approaches ipek as a semantic and conceptual field shaped by the sensory properties of textile materiality. Drawing on lexical, historical, and semantic evidence, the study shows that ipek refers not only to a fiber but also to qualities such as softness, brightness, delicacy, and visual appeal. These qualities enable the term to extend beyond its literal meaning into broader domains, including the body, plants, animals, objects, technical terminology, and place names. Expressions like “silk hair” and “silk skin” demonstrate how silk functions as a medium for articulating embodied perception and aesthetic value. The article argues that ipek holds a distinctive position in Turkish as both a material substance and a cultural signifier. By tracing the semantic and conceptual range of ipek, the study contributes to textile studies by showing how cloth persists in language as a carrier of sensory memory, bodily imagination, and cultural meaning, offering a linguistic and cultural perspective within material and visual culture.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2A Unified and Interpretable Benchmark of Classification Models for DGA-Based Power Transformer Fault Diagnosis
Doğan, Kıvanç; Ertarğın, Merve; Çalışkan, Abuzer; Bakay, Ayşenur
Power transformers are among the most critical components of electric power transmission and distribution systems, and unexpected failures can lead to substantial economic losses and prolonged power outages. Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) is the most widely used diagnostic technique for transformer fault diagnosis and involves interpreting gases dissolved in insulating oil. However, conventional interpretation methods, such as the Rogers ratio, the Doernenburg ratio, the IEC 60599 ratio method, and the Duval Triangle, rely heavily on expert knowledge, may produce inconsistent diagnoses for the same oil sample, and may fail to provide a diagnosis in certain cases. In this study, 12 classification models were evaluated using the publicly available Power Transformers Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) dataset and a unified evaluation protocol. Model performance was assessed using Accuracy, Balanced Accuracy, and Macro-F1 score, while model interpretability was investigated through Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) analysis. The results showed that ensemble tree-based methods achieved the best overall performance. LightGBM and Random Forest both attained an Accuracy of 0.969 and a Macro-F1 score of 0.924, while LightGBM further achieved the highest Balanced Accuracy of 0.940. XGBoost exhibited the most stable performance under cross-validation. SHAP analysis revealed that engineered relative concentration features, particularly the CO/H2 ratio and the combined gas ratio, were among the most influential features for fault classification. These findings demonstrate that, for datasets of this scale, ensemble tree-based models combined with well-designed features provide strong and interpretable performance for imbalanced DGA-based fault diagnosis, highlighting the effectiveness of feature-based ensemble learning for small- to medium-sized datasets.

In the 2023 study, conducted in the Hizan District of Bitlis, aimed at determining the biochemical properties of pistachio trees grafted onto Pistacia khinjuk rootstocks, we identified 11 genotypes. Approximately 500 g of fruit were harvested from each genotype when the green fruit peel color started turning red, for use in the analyses. The various parameters were measured in the harvested fruits, including fruit size, yield, percentage of empty fruits, number of fruits per 100 g, splitting rate, moisture, ash, protein, fat, and mineral content. The fruit analyses revealed significant differences among the genotypes. The largest fruits were found in the G5 genotype, while the smallest were in the G9 genotype. Regarding yield, the highest ratio was observed in the G6 genotype with 46.63%, while the lowest was in the G10 genotype with 13.44%. The splitting rate, which varied by genotype, ranged between 0.97% and 41.88%. No statistical differences were observed in moisture and ash content among the genotypes, but protein content ranged from 18.01% to 28.49%, with the highest protein percentage recorded in the G9 genotype at 28.49%. Nutrient element analysis identified nitrogen (N), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and potassium (K) in the fruits. K emerged as the most abundant nutrient element across genotypes, followed by CA, magnesium (Mg), and sodium (Na). The G3 genotype exhibited the highest levels of potassium, calcium, magnesium, and manganese. In the fatty acid analyses, 9-octadecenoic acid was found to be the most abundant fatty acid, ranging between 40.5% and 66.7% across genotypes. Additionally, other fatty acids such as hexadecanoic acid, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid, and eicosanoic acid were also detected. These results indicated significant differences in the fatty acid content of the genotypes. As a result the pistachio genotypes examined in this study showed notable differences in terms of fruit yield, quality characteristics, and nutritional values. Particularly, G6 and G9 genotypes stood out with high yield and superior fruit qualities.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Sustainable hybrid activation: Synergistic effects and optimization of one-part alkali-activated slag using sodium sulfate and sodium carbonate
Orhan, Taha Yusuf; Balun, Bilal; Dener, Murat; Karataş, Mehmet
The development of one-part alkali-activated materials (AAMs) using near-neutral and moderately alkaline salts offers a promising, low-carbon alternative to hazardous two-part systems. However, overcoming delayed reaction kinetics and setting anomalies remains a critical challenge. This study systematically investigates the fresh state, mechanical, and microstructural evolution of one-part slag mortars activated by sodium sulfate (Na2SO4), sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), and their hybrid combinations, adopting a hybrid binder approach through modification with calcium-rich additives (Portland cement, hydrated lime, and quicklime). Results demonstrate that while Portland cement ensures a controlled dissolution rate and balanced setting times across all environments, the incorporation of 7.5% quicklime in pure carbonate media triggers an instantaneous flash set. This extreme reactivity leads to a severe structural collapse, plunging the 90-day compressive strength to 16.11 MPa. Microstructural analyses (TGA and FTIR) suggest a link between this mechanical failure and a massive accumulation of unreacted portlandite (4.51% mass loss) rather than cohesive C-(A)-S-H gel formation, a degradation further corroborated by a drastic attenuation in ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). Conversely, the synergistic implementation of hybrid sulfate-carbonate activators effectively mitigates these anomalies. Sulfate ions buffer early-age kinetics to prevent flash setting-recovering the collapsed strength up to 29.16 MPa while carbonate ions facilitate sustained late-age matrix densification. Ultimately, tailoring specific calcium boosters within a hybrid activator framework presents a highly robust and potentially low-carbon framework for developing sustainable binders for practical on-site construction applications.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2The Female Face of the Digital World: From Cooperatives to Global Financial Freedom
Veysikarani Geyik, Dilek; Akdağ, Nuran; Malkoç Kinikli, Filiz
The objective of this study is to examine, through a narrative literature review and a qualitative cross-case comparison, how women’s cooperatives and cooperative-linked financial mechanisms contribute to women’s financial inclusion and economic empowerment under different institutional and socioeconomic conditions. The study synthesizes evidence from successful initiatives, including the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) in India, digital savings cooperatives in Indonesia, and M-Pesa-enabled cooperative models in Kenya, women-oriented banking in Rwanda, Cooperative Home Care Associates in the United States, and women’s cooperatives in Türkiye. The findings indicate that cooperative systems enhance women’s access to financial services, strengthen financial and digital capabilities, support income generation, and foster leadership and economic participation. However, persistent barriers, including limited digital access, inadequate financial literacy, and restrictive socio-cultural norms, continue to constrain the effectiveness and scalability of these models. The study concludes that strengthening women’s cooperatives through targeted policy support, capacity-building initiatives, and digital financial inclusion strategies can significantly improve women’s economic empowerment while contributing to more inclusive financial systems and broader sustainable development objectives.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Structural alignment and thematic complementarity between ISO 7101:2023 and Türkiye’s hospital quality standards: a qualitative document analysis
Karahüseyinoğlu, Furkan
Background: ISO 7101:2023, adopted in Türkiye as TS ISO 7101:2023, is an international management system standard for healthcare quality management published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in October 2023 and structured according to ISO’s harmonised high-level architecture. SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 (Sağlıkta Kalite Standartları Hastane Sürüm 6.1) is Türkiye’s national hospital quality standards framework, comprising 5 dimensions, 46 sections, 523 standards, and 1,599 assessment criteria calibrated to hospital practice. Both documents coexisted within the Turkish health system at the time of this analysis: TS ISO 7101:2023 was adopted by the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) in November 2023, while SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 has been in use since its publication in 2021. Despite the potential relevance of both frameworks to hospital quality governance, to the author’s knowledge, no published study has systematically compared the structural and thematic alignment of ISO 7101:2023 and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1. This study aimed to examine the degree and nature of correspondence between ISO 7101:2023 and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 across a comprehensive set of hospital quality management domains. Methods: A qualitative document analysis with structured comparative mapping was conducted using the primary texts of ISO 7101:2023 (accessed as TS ISO 7101:2023) and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1. Fourteen analytical dimensions were specified a priori, covering organisational context, leadership and governance, quality planning, patient/person-centred care, patient safety and risk management, workforce competence, clinical and service delivery processes, information management, resource and infrastructure management, external provider management, performance measurement, incident reporting and learning, continuous improvement, and accessibility and equity. A seven-category coding scheme was applied to each dimension: Full Convergence (FC), Partial Convergence (PC), ISO-Dominant Management System Emphasis (ISO-D), SKS-Dominant Operational Specificity (SKS-D), Complementarity (COMP), Limited Explicit Correspondence (LEC), and No Direct Correspondence (NDC). Coding categories are analytical, not evaluative. Standard-level verification extending to confirmed standard codes and assessment-criteria-level content was conducted for five dimensions (D2, D3, D5, D8, D11). ISO 7101:2023 text is paraphrased with clause references; the document is copyrighted and is not extensively quoted. Results: Thirteen of the fourteen analytical dimensions were classified as Partial Convergence (PC). Dimension 7 (Clinical and Service Delivery Processes) was classified as Complementarity (COMP). No dimension was classified as Full Convergence or No Direct Correspondence. The Partial Convergence pattern reflects shared quality management intent across all domains, accompanied by systematic differences in documentary logic, prescriptive specificity, and regulatory mechanism. ISO 7101:2023 addresses quality domains through normative “shall” obligations within a harmonised management system architecture, leaving implementation methods to the organisation. SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 addresses the same domains through prescriptive, surveyable hospital standards and assessment criteria. Standard-level verification confirmed operationally specific requirements in SKS across governance committee structures (KKY06-10), risk management (KRY01-05), patient safety (KKY07), information system security and backup (DBY05, DBY10, DBY13), indicator management (GGİ01–07), and national performance reporting. Several ISO constructs — including formal change management planning (Cl. 6.3), risk awareness culture monitoring (Cl. 6.1.2), structured internal audit with independence criteria (Cl. 9.2), and eleven-input management review (Cl. 9.3) — were not confirmed as single equivalent standards in the verified SKS sections. Conclusions: ISO 7101:2023 and SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 show broad thematic overlap across hospital quality domains. SKS Hastane Sürüm 6.1 provides an operationally specific, nationally calibrated quality infrastructure for hospitals in Türkiye. ISO 7101:2023 provides a complementary management-system architecture that may supplement SKS’s operational standards with structural constructs for leadership accountability, quality objective documentation, change management planning, and cyclical system evaluation. The two frameworks are better characterised as potentially complementary than as competing. These findings are based on document-level analysis and cannot be interpreted as evidence of implementation effectiveness. Empirical research is needed to assess how the frameworks interact in hospital practice and to determine what benefits, if any, alignment may offer for hospital quality governance in Türkiye.

Karatay, Gülnaz
This study examines the construction of collective mourning and social memory in digital environments following the discovery of university student Ayşe Tokyaz’s body in a suitcase, using a netnographic approach. Femicide is framed as a form of structural violence that produces societal trauma. A total of 414 online comments from Haberler.com were reviewed; 226 met the inclusion criteria, and 205 were analyzed after data cleaning. An integrated qualitative method combining thematic analysis, manual sentiment coding, and discourse analysis was employed. Findings highlight strong demands for justice and capital punishment, alongside distrust in the legal system and calls for retribution. Patriarchal norms appear in victim-blaming and sexist discourse, while demands to reveal the perpetrator’s identity reflect “digital justice.” Collective mourning is expressed through empathy and shared grief, whereas fear signals ongoing trauma. Some users invoke religious references. As a single-case study, findings are context-specific.

Kilic, G.; Ilik, E.; Kavaz, E.; Durmus, Hasan; Güler, Ömer; Birdogan, Selcuk; ALMisned, Ghada; Tekin, H.O.
This study investigates the effects of holmium oxide (Ho2O3) microparticle reinforcement on the structural, physical, and radiation shielding properties of borotellurite glasses with compositions ranging from 0 to 12 mol% Ho2O3. X-ray diffraction and TEM analyses confirmed the retention of amorphous structure across all samples, with localized short-range ordering observed at higher Ho contents. Glass density increased from 4.598 to 5.202 g/cm3 with increasing Ho2O3, while molar volume expanded from 27.94 to 30.61 cm3/mol, and oxygen packing density decreased from 0.605 to 0.551 g/cm3, indicating network expansion due to the substitution of lighter Li + ions by heavier Ho3+. Gamma-ray shielding properties significantly improved with Ho incorporation. At 81 keV, the linear attenuation coefficient increased from 8.33 to 13.70 cm−1, and the mass attenuation coefficient improved from 2.066 to 2.735 cm2/g. Moreover, effective atomic number rose from 44.9 to 52.5 and half-value layer decreased by 20.5% at 383 keV, and buildup factors dropped by up to 34% at 0.5 MeV. Neutron dose absorption improved, and the fast neutron removal cross-section increased from 0.1066 to 0.1113 cm−1. These results confirm that Ho2O3 contributes as a highly effective multifunctional dopant, significantly enhancing both gamma-ray and neutron shielding performance of borotellurite glasses, one of the most promising glass systems for advanced radiation protection applications.
